This movie was Phil Hartman's (the voice of Jiji) final movie and the movie was dedicated to him as he was unfortunatley killed by his own wife who was mentally ill (reportaily she commited suicide right after being guilty of killing her husband). He was known for voicing Lionel Hutz and Troy MeClure on The Simpsons, The Hanging Lamp (imporsonating Peter Lorre) and The Air Conditioner (impersonating Jack icholson) and co-wrote the script for Pee-Wees Big Adventure and helped Paul Reubens devolpe his character Pee-wee Herman.
There is a nice series of post-credit scenes that you missed. The one I really like is Kiki noticing that a mother is walking with her very little girl dressed up like a witch carrying a broom like Kiki. Compare this to Kiki's earlier thoughts on how she didn't like how she is dressed in dark clothes. After Kiki's public rescue of Tombo, she is now a celebrity and little girls want to look like her. There are also scenes of Kiki continuing to make deliveries on her broom. But notice the broom. She is still using the street sweepers broom that she borrowed to save Tombo. The street sweeper probably insisted that she keep it so he could continue to brag about how "that's my broom she is using! That's my broom!" That way he can share in her celebrity. The post-credit scenes really finish up the story nicely.
I learn from one commentary that the aircraft that overtakes Kiki at the beginning of the film is a 'Handley Page H.P. 42/45', all of which were lost in WWII by 1940. Kiki has a transistor radio, so the film takes place after 1960. This means that this world is somewhere in Europe where the Second World War did not take place. This movie's worldview is that if the Second World War had not happened, maybe there would have been a little bit of magic left in this world. Kiki's loss of magic is not solely her own fault. Hayao Miyazaki's films have a consistent theme that humans have benefited greatly from technological progress, but have also lost a lot. Of course, this is not about whether that is good or bad. Hayao Miyazaki himself loves aircraft and weapons and is a very knowledgeable person.
kiki also got annoyed in that one scene where tombo's friends showed up after the bike ride because, one of the girls in the car was the same girl who hated the grandma's pot pie
Fun fact about ghibli films: one of the founders hayao miyazaki worked on an anime based on Heidi and for his films he’s very inspired by European architecture and lifestyle so a lot of the buildings and clothes in his films are based on that
This is the G-Kids version. I prefer the Disney initial release dub (although that's really hard to come by, nowadays). Phil Hartman (Jiji) had a lot more hilarious ad-libs than you get here. And in my opinion, the music Disney added was better, too. This movie was the first Ghibli film I ever saw. It made me a fan and made me want to see all of the others.
Aw, i wanted to see you watch it in japanese just to feel all of it as it was originaly intended Whatever tho,you watched it still so it is better than nothing
I’m concerned, Studio Ghibli is infamous for killing off UA-cam channels! They might strike three movies at once and not respond to any emails. It happened at least once. Granted, that was years ago and it’s nowadays quite unclear what the status of Studio Ghibli is.
Unfortunately, they already made a copy strike on my channel for my first post on Spirited Away. To be fair though they did claim me(no effect on the channel) a couple of times before striking the channel. They're why I changed how I present the original material in my reactions. I'll just wait and see. Thanks for the concern.💜
I think Disney and Ghibli worked together on this one and it has the princess coming of age feel to it. Great reaction again! I hope you do a Makoto Shinkai movie next!

The magpies were attacking Kiki because as she landedcrashed right near one of their nest, they think she was trying to steal their eggs.
