This woman didn't have to sing another song in her whole life because she achieved something truly unique for all humanity in this song. Well done woman, take a bow!
I've loved this song for so many years. I'm a 72 year old man and the lyrics are so meaningful. My daughter in her 40,s can't listen to this without it bringing tears to her eyes. Beautiful.
Great song and message. There are so many things you can do when you're in your 30s, 40s and 50s. But the opportunity to find a true, great love and making a life and family is something can is often presented in your 20s that people tend to put aside in favor of adventure. They don't realize that the greatest adventures in life are the ones you'll have with someone you love.
Some people never find true love, like me. I had a true love and that was my daughter. She died at 21 and her sister years before. I have to make myself happy at 59 becuase I will never get into another relationship again because of trauma. BTW, I had kids in my 30s and played in my 20s by having fun and getting an education. I actually feel sorry for people who think you need a man to be happy. I thought that as a very young woman, but now at 59 I know I was foolish.
Women who choose to be single and free may regret when they see others with family when they’re old. Women who on the other hand choose to have a family and work for family their whole life may also regret when they see some others who could spend all their time, money and energy on loving themselves. It’s really not about how do you choose to live your life. It’s all about how you can find happiness in your own path and cherish what you have, and find the true happiness within yourself (not from comparing with others).
I understand why was your mother's favorite song. I am happy for you and her. That your mom is in paradise. May you find, if you have not yet; your paradise.
As a man I shed tears while listening to this song. Too many people running after false freedom and forgetting the real happiness we can easily find at home with our family. This song tells everything.
I'll never forget when I heard this song for the first time. I was alone in my room half drunk watching Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 and the piano man (God) smiled very knowingly as he poured the notes - his love, his sadness, his dreams and their echoes - all over me. Truly one of the greats.
When this came out, I wasn't even a teenager yet and me and my sister laughed and laughed every time it came on the radio. Fast forward to me at 50, I hadn't heard it since, those words aren't so funny. They're making me weep openly.
Some years back, there was a supergroup called Velvet Revolver with Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots and 3 members of Guns 'N Roses in the band. They released a song called 'Falling To Pieces' which I just dismissed as a power ballad about drugs. Paid it no mind. Well, Scott ended up od'ing in late 2015. When I listen to the song now, I hear Scott's cry for help and feel quite sad thinking about his struggle with drugs. Time has a way of changing our perspectives. I sympathize with your tears and send you ♥and 🙏.

Growing up listening to this song, now at 34, I clearly understand the psychological and philosophical meaning of this beautiful song! And I loved it even more. Thank you Ms. Charlene for sharing your thoughts and talents to the world! 💖💖
I am 59 and I realize how outdated this song is. The younger generation of women are stronger and know they don't need marriage and kids to feel complete. Sad. I had no choice but to live like that now because both kids died. I travel and do things my own way now. I never chose to have my family die, but it happened. I will never, ever hook up with anyone again after having the experience I had with my husband . It is done, now I focus on me.

As being a 90s, it is my one of the unforgettable songs in my life. It is not because of its melody. The lyrics reflect a full conversation between a young lady and an old lady to discuss how the paradise looks like. Though I has not been married, I totally agree that love has no cost and it is for your freedom. I hope this song can be a reminder to everyone in love. Treasure your loved ones.
I just heard this song yesterday and i can't seem to get over it. The lyrics are so powerful that it can touch even a man's heart. I wish many songs like this will be produced so that younger generation will be reminded about the true meaning of happiness.

A song that tells a story of a woman who chose to be wild and free. She has a lot of achievements in life and have been to different places, Georgia, California, Greece etc. Met different people, bought anything she wanted to. She thought that those things are the real happiness but realized the real happiness is having someone who completes your life, someone who loves you and cares for you (like your partner together with your sons/daughters). In the end she was left ALONE and regretful.
Charlene was the perfect choice to sing this song. You can feel the passion she has for the song and can see the pain and hurt in her eyes. She’s beautiful lady, inside and out.
Spot on, Charlene was going through an abortion and physical abuse by her ex husband during the original release of this song. She literally poured her heart and soul into the project.

Oh, and to my Mom for listening (and introducing me) to this song, and your reason for doing so - I now understand
@@karbolchannel5619 It was originally recorded in 1976 and didn't do very well. I think the story goes the female singer gave up recording a couple of years later. Then some radio diskjocky in a large US city started playing in a lot in 1982 and it started moving up the charts. That's when the singer got a surprise phone call from her ex-agent saying to her "I think we've got a hit on our hands" or something like that.
❤ ❤❤❤ ❤ This song since I was a kid I heard it one day in a store but couldn’t remember the name and it was driving me crazy… well thank God for UA-cam. God Bless you for uploading You are Super 🙏🙏🙏
After I took the plunge into the deep, dark, and dangerous waters of entrepreneurship in 1991, Malaysia was my first stop for overseas expansion. I stayed at the Melia Kuala Lumpur. On the first evening, I was captivated by the this song playing in the hotel without knowing its meaning. I repeatedly called the receptionist asking her to play the song again. She finally replied in exasperation, "Sir, this is the 20th time I've played the song. Fortunately, all the guests are asleep." 😂 This song remains one of my favorite all these years.
This song is one of my mother's favourite. She used to sing with us when we were a little kids... 5 years from now since she left us. I missed you mom😭❤️
im listening to this because of my mom, she always plays this song when i was a kid.. now im moving to a new home and im not at her house anymore, im just missing her
It was released in the 70's and re-released in 1982. It's one of my favorite songs since the 70's. My kids heard me singing this while cooking, I still do .😄😄🎙🎶🎼🎵
Darling, I don’t think so. These generation of young people (especially these so called.....”millenials”) have different “taste” of what they call music nowadays. I’m pretty sure they will just laugh on this kind of music and will even ridicule us who likes this kind of music.
It's not underrated. It's number 1 in the charts of many countries for several months in the 80s and still one of my most favorite songs to date. Charlene Duncan
I have loved this song for decades. I have always been Charlene and I've tried so hard to convince my girlfriends, discontented mothers and regimented wife's, that it's not so great, I've never been to me.
Yesterday was the first time I listen to this song. Wonder where I have been for my whole 27 years. So beautiful meaning, rhythm, voice and these weaving lyrics.
I had forgotten all about this song. I heard it last week in a bar. Somebody played it on the jukebox. I pulled up the lyrics on my phone to remind myself of the message. I’m 65 now. I’ve had my paradise. It came in the form of a 41 year white-hot love affair I shared with my wife. I lost her last year and I’m all alone now. Thank goodness I’m not living a life full of regrets. I love you honey, and I thank you for giving me the greatest life I could’ve ever imagined.
2024 And this still makes me feel that I lost something along the way, and at 72 will never be able to get it back. This is still one of my very favourite songs.
I bought this song when it was first released on vinyl and still got it, Loved it then, Love it now a truly inspirational song, I wish someone would release now with the music available now but without killing the song.
This song so much describes my mom . She always thought of us 5 kids more than she did of herself . She’s been an angel and I believe God is letting her live a very long time. She will be 82 this year .
Such a powerful reflection to one life's different stages, situation and struggles. At some point we could all relate men/women, we're all looking for real happiness.
It is sad when you lose a Sister. I am sorry for your loss. I do understand how you feel. I lost mine (she took her life) 5 yrs. ago. I miss her so much. She was my best friend.
This song touched my soul back then when I was just a teenager. It made me dream of the woman who one day would share my path. It should be truly listened by those ladies and boys who are looking for happines in the wrong places and with the wrong people,, in the end there is the bitter, the loneliness.. Thanks for sharing.
Simply love it. Since the first time I heard it. The lady's fragile voice brings the song to another level. Masterpiece which will never bore me. Grazia Charlene.
This song gives different emotions of sadness, happiness, and regrets. I have listened to this when I was a child and I stumbled upon it at present, and it shows vague memories that I cannot understand. There's an aching in my heart that really makes me curious of how this song affected me in so many levels. I just wanna cry and go back to my childhood😭
When I was broken up, listening this song makes me accept what I was going through, deeply feel and sympathy with my misery. When I was happy, it makes me want to spread out all of my happiness to all the woman all over the world. There is no other song that worth listening with all the women more than this beautiful one.
I always be thankful for my mother who gave birth to me at a young age of 23, just out of college, unsupported by her family, and unmarried, every now and then I hear her singing this song and I see the melancholy nostalgic feeling she has in her eyes, however, I knew she never had a second thought about me but I wish I can give my mother her young years of 20 back and it also gives me a sad feeling of what she had to sacrifice

Me too me too me too. I was a 12 years old boy from rural NC. I about wore out my 45 rpm single of this song. The magic of this song is just as strong or even stronger now. How is that possible?
This is the story, beautifully sung song that explains what happens with many woman that end up sad and lonely! Always chasing the good times and never building a good life with an average man!
This is probably the best sum up of the song I have read so far in all of these comments. You literally hit the nail on the head. Because that is exactly what this song is about.
I remember my senior year in high school the song came out and it was very controversial. People either loved it or they hated it. I thought it was introspective and insightful and not meant to be anti-feminist but an honest assessment of life to a given point in time for the singer of the song. I know so many guys who really deep down love this song but didn't have the guts to admit it. I never had a problem admitting what an awesome song this is! And it still is painful to hear the protagonist of this song lament as she assesses her life.

I was 12 in 1982 also but for some strange reason I don't remember hearing it play on the radio. I discovered this song from a true crime channel called Seeking The Truth With Dave.
As a radio presenter in 1977 in the UK when I was first sent this I thought Wow this is different and pushed it as hard as I could and although it got a lot of airplay never really took off then, then five years later it was re-released and became a massive hit. I never understood why there were no follow ups. Glad she got there in the end.

Women who on the other hand choose to have a family and work for family their whole life may also regret when they see some others who could spend all their time, money and energy on loving themselves.

I never had the chance to know the meaning of this song until a friend told me at the age of 33. The melody of this song gives justice to the story.
She teaches piano and sInging to my kiddos in Ft Worth Tx! She’s amazing 🥰
Wow amazing your kids learn music from a legend
Really?
Where is her classroom so that I can send my kids there
I think you forgot to take your meds.
One of the greatest songs ever made....truly inspirational...blessed
Even if I am a MAN I still love this song maybe because I do love classic songs. 😅😅 Who are old souls here?
Really? Are you from the USA or have you been to Nice n the Isle of Greece etc too?
Im 54 and I love this song too all the 60s 70s and 80s really!
I am 23 but I do have an old soul hhehe

Lyrics is so compatible with her voice...been listening to this song since in the '70s and still love to listen to date.

Growing up, I remember this song always playing in the background and I appreciate it even more now as a young woman. I'm 23 and may not have had much life experiences just yet but this song truly speaks to my soul. Thank you for this, Charlene. Oh, and to my Mom for listening (and introducing me) to this song, and your reason for doing so - I now understand
Listened to you in my teens in the 70's and still listening up to now. Still a beautiful song.
Ramon Garcia Me too I still listen to songs from all those 70s concerts I went to, I blame Partridge Family music turning me into a Rock N Roll Freak
Really? This song released in 1982.
❤ ❤❤❤ ❤ This song since I was a kid
I heard it one day in a store but couldn’t remember the name and it was driving me crazy… well thank God for UA-cam.
God Bless you for uploading
You are Super 🙏🙏🙏
After I took the plunge into the deep, dark, and dangerous waters of entrepreneurship in 1991, Malaysia was my first stop for overseas expansion.
I stayed at the Melia Kuala Lumpur.
On the first evening, I was captivated by the this song playing in the hotel without knowing its meaning.
I repeatedly called the receptionist asking her to play the song again.
She finally replied in exasperation, "Sir, this is the 20th time I've played the song. Fortunately, all the guests are asleep." 😂
This song remains one of my favorite all these years.
This song is one of my mother's favourite. She used to sing with us when we were a little kids... 5 years from now since she left us. I missed you mom😭❤️
My mom sings this song too a lot.. I think it also saved their marriage somehow with my Dad. Now they have both passed away. I miss my mom too..
It's 2023 and I still have wonderful memories of this song.
Same here Susan
Isn’t it beautiful
❤ A Classic
Sooo many memories
Me too! This song and Tina Charles “I love to love” are songs I repeat continually.
Could be a lot worse. Honey bunny
im listening to this because of my mom, she always plays this song when i was a kid.. now im moving to a new home and im not at her house anymore, im just missing her
I have listened this song over a thousand times, and now I am going to listen to it one more time.
One of the most underrated songs in music history. Maybe it should make a comeback because it would touch so many people.
I dont know. This generation is.....strange. I doubt it would be as appreciated due to it's pure simplicity.
It was released in the 70's and re-released in 1982. It's one of my favorite songs since the 70's. My kids heard me singing this while cooking, I still do .😄😄🎙🎶🎼🎵
My thoughts .... Exactly !!!!! ♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️ My eyes spill my heart's ocean every single time I've listened to the words spoken within the song 🌹♥️🌹♥️🌹
I have always been Charlene and I've tried so hard to convince my girlfriends, discontented mothers and regimented wife's, that it's not so great, I've never been to me.
this song will live forever…. my eyes we’re in tears while listening to this song..
My eyes are watering. I remember my mother that she choose to born and raised me than doing things she wants in her own life 😘
I'm glad yours didn't resent you for it
I have NEVER been touched by a song like this.
She might have chosen the right choice.

Your mother is a real mother.
Yesterday was the first time I listen to this song. Wonder where I have been for my whole 27 years. So beautiful meaning, rhythm, voice and these weaving lyrics.
The song came out 55 years ago. It has had very little play during the time you were old enough to recognize a song on the radio.
Aww, man, why did you have to go and make me cry!!!
2024 And this still makes me feel that I lost something along the way, and at 72 will never be able to get it back.
This is still one of my very favourite songs.
if you only have one hit, make it memorable like this. this song takes me back to my childhood. you'd never hear a song like this on radio today.
Rap, and some rock, ruined much of music
@@kathleenking47 They still have radio? Does anyone listen to it?
@@jamesgilmore8256 Of course they do... It's on the internet
Adele's "Easy On Me" and "Someone Like You" is pretty deep. But you're correct, most modern pop radio is horrid comparatively.
Thank God!
Looking back over my life at 61. I truly can relate to this song! ❤
❤
This was my mother’s favorite song. I miss her, everyday. She’s in paradise now! ❤
I bought this song when it was first released on vinyl and still got it, Loved it then, Love it now a truly inspirational song, I wish someone would release now with the music available now but without killing the song.
I may be a man, but I can relate to this song in so many ways. Such a beautiful and Powerful song
Even if a man listened to this song for the first time, it made me cry. I really like this song...

The voice of an angel, combined with the words of a poet. Too bad that she didn't do more.
I love listening to a memorable song like this. Thank you very Charlene D'Angelo for your wonderful music.
This song so much describes my mom . She always thought of us 5 kids more than she did of herself . She’s been an angel and I believe God is letting her live a very long time. She will be 82 this year .
Some people think the lyrics are corny, but regardless, the music itself is wonderful--beautiful arrangement with piano and chord progressions.
Such a powerful reflection to one life's different stages, situation and struggles. At some point we could all relate men/women, we're all looking for real happiness.
The favorite song of my sister Lydia 1967-2011. It's been 8 years since you left us. Wherever you are, I love you and miss you :*(

It is sad when you lose a Sister. I am sorry for your loss. I do understand how you feel. I lost mine (she took her life) 5 yrs. ago. I miss her so much. She was my best friend.

Benedict Zwartzneger - “never been to me” suddenly has a different ring to it….
This song touched my soul back then when I was just a teenager. It made me dream of the woman who one day would share my path. It should be truly listened by those ladies and boys who are looking for happines in the wrong places and with the wrong people,, in the end there is the bitter, the loneliness.. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely stunning to hear this song again. Memories 😊
I was singing this song during my 3rd high school days way back 1978, still listening to this meaningful song 2021
One of the most beautiful singing voices I've ever listened to.
When I was broken up, listening this song makes me accept what I was going through, deeply feel and sympathy with my misery. When I was happy, it makes me want to spread out all of my happiness to all the woman all over the world. There is no other song that worth listening with all the women more than this beautiful one.
You are a very lovely woman, Chinie
How does this song fit your life? I don't think this song is about "BROKEN" relationships.
Parts of this song, you can feel real emotions & pain in them.
This song doesn't receive the proper recognition and honor for which it should and so much deserves !!!!!! ♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️
Quite right and lovely dog
Nope. WORST song of the ‘70s!😂😂😂

This is not a song, but a dream ❤️,greetings from Brazil.
And it still is painful to hear the protagonist of this song lament as she assesses her life.
simple song with a very deep meaning.
Yeah i agree.
Yup
Huh?

I sang this song when I was 12 back in 1982 and I will never forget this classic!

Was this Pennine Radio by any chance?
