Quilting fabrics go by many different names and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Sara talks about where to start and what's available in terms of quilting fabric in the first part of this two-part episode. Pre-cuts including layer cakes, jelly rolls, charm packs, fat quarter packs, and more are shown, and Sara talks about what kind of projects each size can be helpful for.
I have to agree with Monica Peralto's comment below. I was hoping you would (also) cover, let's call it "freestyle" materials. I live so far out in the boonies, I am probably 3 hours from the nearest town that would offer any materials like the squares you describe. So with a particular quilt in my mind to create, the squares you speak of are not what I am looking for.
I am looking for something that address the best material for a first-time quilt maker. Is that cotton? If not, what is? If so, does thread count matter when it comes to quilts? What materials should first-timers stay away from? In your very first episode you mentioned "Fray Check" and it occurred to me then that I should probably stay away from nylon material as a first timer. This is where your videos would come in handy in guiding newbies.
Okay, off to episode three.
I was expecting an explanation of type(s) of fabric best used for beginner quilting. I am looking to make a specific themed quilt so would not be purchasing bulk items like this, but yardage off a bolt, but there are so many options! Hopefully down these series you explain that part. Onto video 3!
i am searching for beginner quilt patterns. I will keep looking.
Wish someone would put out a video example of self-pick fabric coordination. Not simply pointing users to the precut options. Not everyone has the budget for those. Best I've found so far is Jordan Fabrics.
