@@bigben4159what part in the engine was bad? Today my car was low on oil and I was on the high way and it shut off. I added oil and it start fine but now there’s a knocking sound and then when I come to a complete stop the oil gauge goes down and up. Any ideas?

I'm working on one of these at the moment. The knocking noise is exactly the same as mine. I've torn into the top end and found rocker arm distruction on the exhaust. The rocker arm is wobbling on #2 cylinder. Many of them are a little more loose than I want but no where near #2. I found another video that shows rocker arm damage so I don't know if this engine is prone to this. Get an engine stethoscope and put it on the valve cover. It was clear to me the noise was from inside.
mine does this. its always had a small knock when i bought it used like 12 years ago and everyone said it was normal for that engine. fast forward to 240,000 miles and that knock is back. and it sounds like yours. i dont know much about working on cars but i am always eager to learn. anyways. the knock will only be there when you first start it for the first one second, if you listen to the video the knock was there when you started it, thats exactly what mine was doing, and as you warm it up the knock comes bad, sometimes its really bad, sometimes its just somewhat bad, i can hear it under load and i can hear it not under load. the longer i drive it the worse it gets. then i park it. i will let it sit and cool off and then when is start it back up it knocks for about one second and then stops abruptly. and then again as it warms up the knock will come back. i have barely driving this vehcile since this issue started but now that its sping/summer i am looking to fix it. the bad thing is that now that knocking has gotten real bad for me and it seems to almost miss, throws low oil pressure and check gauges and reduced power warning occasionaly, and it now seems to have a misfire. fast forward to this very day and it barely wants to start and has no power and the egine is knocking and shaking violently and it left me stranded one the road, omg walking in that heat, in all black clothes and had been sick for about a month now sucked. anyways me theory is oil wasnt getting where it needed for some reason.if you listen to your video, that engine was knocking for about 1.5 seconds when it started and then it stopped, this is what mine did about a month ago. maybe i needed a oil pump, maybe oil filter plugged but i am almost sure there is a oil bypass anyways. i was aggressive with oil changed the last 5 years, but the first 6 years i almost never changed the oil. oh and even i with it running like crap the only ses light i can see to get is p0016.
fascinating research! I accidentally did an engine flush with a couple ounces of acetone and the engine was making bad noises and vibrating since the oil was diluted. So then I put in Lucas today and the engine sounded much better - and got an oil change. Then added more Lucas in again.
Water pump, alternator, or tensioner pulley. Remove serpentine belt and move all those by hand. Mine did it on alternator bearings. These trucks die hard. They deserve new parts
My trailblazer just did this literally 33 minutes ago it's caused when the vehicle doesn't have any oil in it so I think it's the lifters or the oil pan or whatever it is is causing the knocking noise so I think if you replace it I think you can save the engine if not then good luck trying to replace it 1500$
@@bigben4159 where I think I need an engine I'm not sure it's making the ticking sound but I drove it home and I left it so I don't know if it's the lifters or if it's something to do in the oil pan. I mean I'm not complaining it has over 300,000 mi on it so saved its purpose.

while the car is running look for any movement on the belt tensioner pully, it should be under the alt. It could be the pully or harmonic balancer... or both I guess lol
@@joshualee2329 I just got an oil change and I brought in a quart of Marvel's Mystery Oil - so the trailbllazer now has 6 quarts of Semi-synthetic valvoline and 1 quart of MMO. So I'm gonna listen to see if it sounds better and if it starts sounding better - then I'll get another oil change, assuming the oil filter is now dirty.
@@dakotahhopkins9900 turns out MMO in the fuel is more for valve lifters. So I'm still working on that. Adding 4 ozs per 10 gallons. Sometimes I don't do it. I got Boron Nitride for the oil and suddenly the pistons seemed very smooth. It's a dry quantum physics thing - Air-Tec.
I have very similar noise I have new water pump alternator, I just put vvt solenoid cam shaft postion sensor but the oil pressure sending unit sensor is mainly the reason motor goes bad it works in conjunction with the vvt, cam shaft sensor, crankshaft position sensor and is the most vital of the bunch easy to diagnose, unplug the connection and see if oil is in connection. Same with the vvt. The vvt comes with a paper that says to see if oil is present in connection if not you don't need to buy the vvt. First time I've ever seen an auto parts maker give advice on good or bad parts.
my 2006 4.2 made a horrid Knocking sound , but then it stopped within a few seconds ? I know when a bad rod starts > it doesn't Stop Knocking . I've Never seen a Transfer case or Front Drive Axel input , Mounted with the Oil Pan of the Engine ? Weirdest Shit I have EVER seen ! > Thinking it may be inside that Casing ?????

small tip. remove the serpentine belt, and let it run for 30 seconds and you will get a better idea where the noise is coming from.

It was the engine blew rod right out the bottom and top ended up replacing engine and sold truck

I agree with you.I believe it has something to do with the oil. I figured It was some kind of oil starvation in some kind of area.
Around here in Oklahoma, 8 out of 10 Trailblazers being sold for parts is because of a knocking engine bearing. I did the research myself

Actually, the 4200 is not a pushrod engine. It is a DOHC engine
Odds are it is a loose pulley with how inconsistent it is. Mimics rod knock, but is far less dangerous. I found this out with my 2008 GMC Envoy
Mine's done the exact same thing I pull the valve cover off are The Rocker bolts came loose

I changed the oil and it blew shortly after found a replacement one for 500$ changed myself sold truck

Try adding a bottle of Lucas stabilizer and 6 qrtrs of a good oil see if it helps that helped this one but i have heavy foot so didn't last long

yes Lucas quieted down the tB big time today.
Take the bolts out of the torque converter and restart it. That was my problem needed new one.
