Now you know why none of those trucks survived the Rust Belt. I remember when those were new. An older friend of mine was driving a truck that the mechanic forgot to tighten the fan after putting in a new water pump. It came off and went through the radiator. It was the middle of the night, in the cold of January before the days of cell phones. You'll have a nice piece of history to enjoy when you're done. Have a blessed Easter.
Wow, the older steel fans are reliable until they arent! That would be a really long night! They definitely should be respected. She has been a lot of work and there is a lot to go but I agree it will be awesome when it is finished! Have a blessed Easter as well!
Hello Nickolis, a couple things I do when starting an old engine that has been hibernating for a very long time, is loosen all the belts, make sure it is completely full of water, then bar the engine over a couple complete revolutions, check to see if the clutch plates aren't stuck to the flywheel, and hook up the suction hose of the fuel pump to a separate source of fresh fuel, check with a test light the pump solenoid, and real importantly, pour fresh oil into the feed line of the turbo, and make sure the impellor blades aren't frozen to the alum. housing. By the way, unless it is rotted off, there will be a tag riveted to the accessory drive cover right below the sir con mount telling you the engines CPL(complete parts list) and Cummins can tell you its original application. Bill
I was going to do all of that except the loosen the belts! I have never even thought to do that! I dont know why I never did either! Definitely a necessity on these older engines! Im definitely going to put oil down the turbo feed as well. And the turbo isnt froze up too! Sadly the ID tag is not on the engine any longer and I only have the serial number. I called cummins and they gave me a date of manufacture. They knew it was an NTC-350 originally that was a construction application. They couldnt give me any more info than that. I do have a cpl for the pump so at least I have that going for me! I cant wait to hear this old girl fire up! Thanks for watching as always!
@@sandasturner9529 thank you! And I agree! Definitely a lot more torque than a gas engine even though each have their place. These are awesome machines!
Thank you! I cant wait to get this old girl running! I have been doing a ton of work off camera which will be explained in the next video but I have been busy and it is very exciting! Thanks for watching!
Good call Nick, those mud daubers were all over my KW from North Carolina. It’s amazing what they can build with mud lol. Glad to see the progress on the L1000. One step at a time marked off the list. Good video as always take care. 😬👍
It truly is amazing how much mud they can move! All for a tiny insect! We are getting close to starting video and I cant wait to hear her fire up!!! Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy your weekend, and I cant wait for the next episode on Grasshopper!
Thank you!! I do to because this frame rail wont be cheap 😂. Even though I havent made a whole lot from UA-cam it has been very fulfilling. There are many nice people out there that I honestly never expected to have comment on my videos! Including yourself! Thanks for being a great viewer!
Awesome to see some of the progress on this beauty! Can't wait to see some of the history behind the rig and see this baby driving at some point! Keep up the good work man!
I would be strongly tempted to undo the sump drain plug to see of the high level on the dip stick was due to any water. As oil floats on water, if there is any in there it would be the first thing to enter the oil pick up near the floor of the sump.
Hmmm, I think you may be on to something! Kind of something I didn’t think of. I dont think there were any cooling system failures but there may have been water entry somewhere from or something like that. Definitely something to look into before starting it. Thanks for commenting this!
Really great video can't wait for further video's to come and hopefully you get it running and everything is ok. Looking forward to the tour of your machines that sounds good 👍
