"The song "40:1" by Sabaton is a tribute to the heroes of the Battle of Wizna, in which fewer than 600 Polish soldiers held off over 30 000 German soldiers for 3 days in September 1939. The song's title "40:1" refers to the overwhelming odds of the battle and the lyrics tell the tale of the brave Polish soldiers defying the odds against them and ultimately prevailing. The chorus of the song encapsulates this message, with lyrics such as "Spirit of Spartans/ Death and glory/ Soldiers of Poland/Second to none/ Wrath of the Wehrmacht brought to a halt." Through the song, Sabaton shows tribute and respect for the Polish soldiers for their courage, bravery, and heroism in the face of such extreme odds."

You said in one moment something like "wonder how crazy guys under this flag must be right now".. well it as hot as f..k but everyone still enjoyed performance and bounced and all party stuff. Yes I was in this crowd, in middle of red Polish flag stripe away from scene and little on left from its center. It was amazing performance of Sabaton. At this time I was 18 and it was my favorite band. My patriotism, interest over history of Poland and WWII and this type of music accumulates in this band. So I had to go to Brudstok (Polish joke name of this festival eng. Dirtstock). Two thing about things you said also - crowd is so packed because -at the time - it was highest amount of people on performance of one band in whole history of Woodstock. Sabaton thanks to 40:1, later thanks to Uprising from "nobody knows some metal band" became in Poland stars. Maybe still not many people likes metal music but their singing about our history was big case in Poland. Main TV stations, radio stations, hell even news websites and newspapers were making news about them. We Poles like when some foreigner say something good about Poland. In 2012 they were main band for whole festival. Sabaton guys told earlier that Poland is a country where their music gets biggest popularity at first, because we care about our history. And about this flag - earlier that year Euro 2012 took place in Poland and on Ukraine. This big flag was shown on fan stands during third match of our team against Czechia. Administrator and promotor of Woodstock borrowed this flag from owners especially for this performance and did not tell anything to guys from Sabaton. This flag was surprise for them and some kind of "thank you" for singing about our history and promoting it.
You can learn about the history behind this song from the Sabaton History channel on youtube. Here is a link to the first episode, about song 40:1 on the Battle of Wizna in 1939 ua-cam.com/video/Qpb8gTSMUbo/v-deo.html
It was about the battle of Wizna that took place between 7th and 10th September 1939, when the Polish army fought with German Werhmacht. Around 700 Polish soldiers defended the fortified line against 40 000 German soldiers. The commanding officer of the Polish forces was Władysław Raginis. At the end he refused himself to surrender and he committed suicide by detonating a grenade on his neck, not wanting to be taken by Germans. The battle is often called "The Polish Thermopylae" (as a very small number of soldiers defended the piece of homeland with great courage against the vastly larger number of enemies, like in the ancient battle of Thermopylaebetween Persians and Spartans).
'Uprising' (the Warsaw Uprising) at the same Woodstock concert is worth watching. Sabaton also has a history channel that provides a background to their songs. My favourite Sabaton song about Polish battles is the "Winged Hussars'
I was there. I've been a fan of the band ever since. The flag was from the Euro 2012 football championships that took place in Poland and Ukraine that year.
Other Sabaton songs not related to Poland: 1916 (Cover of Motorhead song about the battle of the Somme) En livstid i ktig (A lifetime in war) live in gothenburg. About Swedish soldiers in the 30-years war (but applicable to every soldier ever.) Caroleans prayer: About the religous mindset and resolve of the Carolean soldier during the great nordic war of 1700-1709.
I attended this one as well. Even though the band is Swedish this song became very viral in Poland as we are really proud when mentioned or noticed abroad. This whole flag thing was meant to be a surprise for the band, so the organiser borrowed it from the polish football fans as it was the biggest one in Poland at that time and was sewn especially for the Euro 2012 Poland-Ukraine. All in all it went pretty well that's why you can see the disbelief on the guitarist's face :) BTW The surprise almost didn't work out because people who were responsible for unfolding the flag got confused and started doing it during another song. Fortunately someone understood the mistake and only 1/4 was unfolded at the wrong time.
Sabaton have channel to explain history for all his song and have more for Polish history songs the best is uprising i think in live and late check Sabaton history channel :)
Been there live, absolutely stunning energy. It was back when there was so much hype about Sabaton cause they were singing about event (in 40-1) that even Poles have forgotten. Band single-handedly revived interest in history across the nation. That was something that really rarely happens - foreigners speaking about our history in such a detail. That's why they've gotten really big here, really fast. Also: Woodstock happens usually at the end of July and beginning of August, including August 1st, which is anniversary for Warsaw Uprising, hence the flag. Ideal considering, that they also have a song about Uprising, which they sang at the exact same festival. Whats more, if I remember right, the flag was actually supposed to go up during Uprising, but it was accidentally deployed early 😂
Finally you got it! I was waiting for it! Thank you for your great reaction! I love your envolving in music and honest comments on this Woodstock 2012 concert. For me it's the best concert ever! I would really like to see you react to Sabaton's song Blood of Bannockburn, about Robert the Bruce and the fight against the English at Sterling castle.
As a Scot, you will be needing to hear their "Blood of Bannockburn". This particular festival has a really good performance of "Uprising" too, which is another one of their songs about Poland in WW2.
40:1 refers to the Battle of Wizna in 1939. I was at that concert under that giant flag :) If I remember correctly, there was a heavy downpour that day and part of the field turned into a lake :)

Thank you!
Cool
👍👍👍
Thank you my friend for giving such a big interest in my homeland history
Sabaton also has a history channel called Sabaton History where they talk about the events that they sing about.
I love that You put on my recemendation.. It was a great gig :D
Whats more, if I remember right, the flag was actually supposed to go up during Uprising, but it was accidentally deployed early
😂
i always get goosebumps when i hear it...
Finally you got it! I was waiting for it! Thank you for your great reaction! I love your envolving in music and honest comments on this Woodstock 2012 concert. For me it's the best concert ever! Sabaton made their first video on concert then. You can watch it with the band's comments on their history before the amazing concert. On YT by Nedeljko Nikolin: SABATON Woodstock, FULL concert,Cały koncert 2012 (2 hours)
There is Krecioła TV channel which has a great film for you to react of this huge flag and what happened later. It's in Polish but you can ask your viewers to tell you about all of things you want from here. It's: SABATON na scenie! Making off Woodstock 2012, odc.19/20. Strong emotions guaranteed. I have chills every time I watch it 🙂
I think Stormtroopers is a very fast Sabaton's song but The Nightwitches is probably the fastest (it's got an animated story, long, the best option).
Especially for you, I'd recommend: Blood of Bannockburn - from the Scottish history :-) lyric video
Today, you are one of my favourite youtubers. When I notice your new film, I stop doing anything but watch it! Thank you :-)
song is about battle of Wizna in 2WW when 42 000+- germans (tanks*, artilerys and planes attack bunkers with 750+- PL defenders with handguns*) all die like Spartans in Termopiles... 700 000 peoples in concert and after this PL anthem for thx... u have all in "Sabaton History serie".
Sabaton, a swedish band who makes songs about historical war moments.... they are amazing, but it's really insane how big they are in Poland.
The most important song of the modern Polish history for me
I was at Woodstock in 2013, it was something beautiful ;) over 500,000 thousand people and 3 days of mega party :)
I always wanted to be there...
Do check out their performance in Gothenburg for 'En livstid i krig'. Its in Swedish but use the subs. Also a really amazing performance! You will be blown away, I can promise you that...
And dont forget to check out their official Sabaton History Channel if you want to learn more about the event in the song.
Good reaction!
I agree, I was at that show.
Next for you it should be (from the same concert): ghost division, and Uprising. These three videos are about the most Polish thing you will ever find online.
Ghost Division is about nazi panzer division.😅
Yes, yes, yes
Love Sweden 🇸🇪 from Poland 🇵🇱

Nice finding you here in this bottomless amazing rabbithole brother ❤
You should watch more sabaton my favourite album is either art of war or carolus rex they also have a history channel where they go in depth about the history and a little about the song itself
My favourite Sabaton song is En livstid i Krig. Their performance of it ,in Gothenburg as a part of The Great Tour , is epic. If you want to listen to it, listen to the Swedish version with the English subtext. This song is both powerful and moving.
We in Poland love Sabaton
Sabaton have songs about history from almost al over the world.
I was there! :D And very close to the stage too. We had to get there hours before and listen to other bands, which were great as well
I was there, half milion people on this concert and our flag , fantastic memories
Battle of Wizna
Been a fan of Sabaton for almost 20 years now and finally saw them live in April... this is a HUGE rabbithole with so many amazing songs and stories to explore and react to.. always make sure to check out their "Sabaton History" channel, too, where they talk about the stories behing the songs! For just SOME other songs to explore, let me request "Swedish Pagans" live at Wacken 2019, "En Livstid I krig" live at Gothenburg, "No bullets fly", official animated video, "Hearts of Iron" and from the newer songs "Bismarck" official music video, "Valley of Death" , Stormtroopers" and "Lady of the Dark", official animated video. Thanks for your great reactions, always a pleasure to watch! Greetings from Northern Germany :)
You can watch the whole DVD and they have the same level of Energy. Saw them since I saw them in 2009 the first time several Times live and they had each and every live show the same Level of energy and fun. Their songs are all about War themes in a historical corecct way. If you have the chance to see them live go.
Now that you have FINALLY reacted to Sabaton lol and you have already watched a video about The Winged Hussars it is time to react to Sabatons song Winged Hussars!!!
I would really like to see you react to Sabaton's song Blood of Bannockburn, about Robert the Bruce and the fight against the English at Sterling castle.
As people have commented before me, you should react to Sabatons' song Uprising live from the same concert. It is epic!
As a Scot, you will be needing to hear their "Blood of Bannockburn". This particular festival has a really good performance of "Uprising" too, which is another one of their songs about Poland in WW2.
You did it! What I suggested thank you :)
Fun fact: I was at the 2013 Concert.
It was, by far, one of the WILDEST times I've ever had in my life.
It's about battle of wizna en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Wizna
40:1 refers to the Battle of Wizna in 1939.

Fun fact.. When they started the song it was the anniversary of this event.

If you like listening to the guitar, you must listen to Marcin Patrzałek playing.
Sabaton went crazy? Did you hear crowd in background? They WERE ON PAIR WITH CONCERT AT TIMES WHEN IT COMES TO VOLUME OF SOUND.
great reaction, more please.
Sabaton is a Swedish band with a loooong list of history based music.
Sabaton also has an award winning history channel that gives background to over 100 if their songs (not music award, academic, aimed at education of the public) .
Sabaton videos are often have dedictions and/or messages at the end, perhaps not always but... watching to the very end is frequently well worth it.

To hell and back, they tell the story of Audie Murphy (highly decorated) and his struggle AFTER the war, so about PTSD and drug addiction that returning soldiers can face.

The song "40:1" by Sabaton is a tribute to the heroes of the Battle of Wizna, in which fewer than 600 Polish soldiers held off over 30 000 German soldiers for 3 days in September 1939. The song's title "40:1" refers to the overwhelming odds of the battle and the lyrics tell the tale of the brave Polish soldiers defying the odds against them and ultimately prevailing. The chorus of the song encapsulates this message, with lyrics such as "Spirit of Spartans/ Death and glory/ Soldiers of Poland/Second to none/ Wrath of the Wehrmacht brought to a halt." Through the song, Sabaton shows tribute and respect for the Polish soldiers for their courage, bravery, and heroism in the face of such extreme odds.
"Because We Do Not Beg For Freedom, We Fight For It" - remeber it also (but not only) in the context Battle of Britain - and polish pilots - 40:1 is nothing unusual ...
P.S. *but we want to encourage Europe and NATO to AVOID mistakes from the past*
My Big Poland❤❤❤❤❤❤💪💪💪💪💪
welcome to metal, mate (that's 750 000 ppl btw)
Budka Suflera - "Jest taki samotny dom", Bajm - "Biała armia", Lady Pank - "Stacja Warszawa".
Sabaton the best, Warszawa wacz :)
Amazing performance, but the high point of that concert imho was "Uprising". They turned the energy knob to eleven on that one and they made an official live video out of it.
