  • Charge Time (10% to 100%): 2.5 hours
    A few improvements that I would like to see:
    1) More seat padding
    2) An easy-access charging port that doesn’t require fumbling with the battery pack itself.
    3) A smarter charger that eliminates the constant relay clicking on/off once the battery is fully charged.
    4) Addition of a rear brake foot lever.
    5) Mirror option
    6) Odometer
    7) Audible low-battery warning beep at 15%

      I wonder why they opted out of odometer. Seems like a basic gauge to judge how far you’ve gone vs how much farther you can go ? So what do you say instead, “Ive gone 4 cubes and have 4 more cubes until I have limp mode for 2 cubes. “. Haha

      1. The seat is OK for me, so not sure if they upgraded or it’s just me.
      2. I decided to pull my battery to charge it. As you know, it’s so easy to remove that I just pull it and put it on the bench to plug it in. Everything is easy to access so no fumbling that way. I actually like the simplicity of the battery design, so I’d be OK if they left it that way.
      3. They must’ve heard you on the battery charger - I don’t hear the relay clicking on mine (I just received it in two weeks ago, so it’s new production.
      4. I prefer a foot-lever rear break, too, so I hope they make that change.
      5. I see that Volcon has a Scrambler version under development - it looks like a cool design - so maybe they’ll add street options to that model.
      6. The lack of an odometer is kind of odd. On a Tesla, it’s in the app.
      7. That would be a good idea - you’re low on gas!!

      @@ChitFromChinola I started looking for reviews on these grunts because I thought I seen that the motor was in the wheels and they were two wheel drive with regen braking.
      Do you know anything about that ?

    • @ChitFromChinola
      @ChitFromChinola 2 роки тому +1

      @@steveh7108
      It’s not a hub motor. The motor is mounted just in front of the rear wheel, and it is chain drive to the rear wheel only. Very simple and effective.

      @@ChitFromChinola yes I realize that it's a Center Mount motor with a chain drive now.
      It must have been someone talking about the Prototype or something cuz I started looking for this bike because some video I watched said they were two wheel drive independent Motors.

    FINALLY......a REAL review, by a REAL independent owner. I am rooting for these guys but the specs for the Grunt were constantly changing....the range went way down from what was originally claimed, the weight went up, all kinds of things. Part of that was whether you had one or two batteries, but still....Volcon did not under promise and over deliver. They did the opposite. I just think the launch was very poor PR wise. It strikes me Polaris is going to be way ahead given they have Zero's experience going forward. We will see. This is no bargain, in my humble opinion.

      Very obviously still not a finished product! Did you see the hot-glue'd magnets on that "tank" cover? 😳 And just held with magnets on an off-road vehicle? 😳

      I’ve been playing around with electric Onewheels an eBike and now a couple electric mini bikes and I’m excited about a future of electric vehicles. BUT… I’m going to wait until things become more main stream and when I finally buy something like an electric motorcycle, quad, snowmachine or vehicles it’ll be from a major manufacturer that I’ve heard of before. I really liked the concept of this Grunt bike but thought it cost way too much for me to seriously consider.

    • @ShawnSonnentag
      @ShawnSonnentag  Рік тому

      The video makes the chain sound louder than it sounds in person, but it isn't quiet by any means. The new versions are belt driven, so should be significantly quieter.

  • @BangForYourBuckRc
    @BangForYourBuckRc 2 роки тому +4

    It’s louder than a gas motor! ( not really) but is way louder than I would expect it to be for 6g’s. Why would they’ve not used a belt or hub drive? I almost sent my money, but after watching a few videos , I’ll wait till they’re more refined. Very good and thorough review sir. Thank you!

      The video makes it sound louder than it really is, but I agree with you in that a belt would have been a better choice. Chains are noisy and messy.

    Thanks for posting your review! I've been waiting for a natural sound video of this bike running and for someone to post their real world experience with it. You can tell it's a young product. I think there's definitely a niche for smaller less expensive bikes like this for people who mainly want to use it around their property or for short distance trips. The sound from the driveline is probably the biggest negative I picked up from your review. It's an electric vehicle and people really expect smoothness and low sound.

    • @ShawnSonnentag
      @ShawnSonnentag  2 роки тому +1

      I have identified three main flaws that I'd like to see corrected in future models. The chain should be replaced with a belt. This would help greatly to alleviate the chain noise. Most of the chain noise comes from the front sprocket. It's not quite as bad as the video portrays, but it is louder than it needs to be. Its certainly quieter than a gas engine. Second, the seat is absolutely miserable. I think it needs to be a little wider and a lot more padded. The seat issue is exacerbated by the third issue; the foot pegs are high due to the great ground clearance. The peg height, combined with the low seat height places undo pressure on the rider's tailbone.
      Thanks for your feedback. 🙂

      I have a Grunt, too, and it’s very quite. You just hear the low hum of the electric motor and the low buzz from the chain. The microphone on this video unfairly overemphasizes the sound - the low hum of the motor/chain is very quite and has nowhere near.the irritating chatter of a gas engine. Also important, there’s no vibration at all. And no hot exhaust pipes. And no smelly gas. And no dirty/greasy oil. And no oily spots on your garage floor. And no stinking gas can in the corner. I mean, this thing is extremely well designed and a joy to ride, and has almost no maintenance. It’s a blast!

    I don't know why they gave the 3 drive modes a name? All it is, just like the Rokon, 1st or low gear, 2ed or medium gear, and 3ed or as fast as the bike is capable of travel. Putting names on something like that is just complicating things. They should also have at least some kind of hour meter. Just something to keep track of the motor usage.

    I got mine a month ago. Rode it for 20minutes, and now it will not power on or charge. The battery has no display, and the charger light just stays green. RIP OFF!! Volcon has yet to get back to me. Also, it is cumbersome and rides clunky. I would be scared to take it on an actual trail. Buy a KLX 140 for a quarter of the price, half the weight, and reliability.
