    I find it symbolic that Yuri's final card was 'Ridicule World'. In his last moments, Yuri would mock Yuya with his last breath as he knows he won; Yuya has embraced the darkness and a part of him knows he'll become one with him. While he didn't know that initially, it may be why Yuri said 'I'm glad that my first lost was to you.' because of the fact that Yuya has already lost his sanity and embraced the urge to become one with him, which is exactly what he wanted; To become 1.

    Yuuya actually didn't make a misplay by discarding "Smile World" instead of an Action Card. He was about to discard an Action Card, but Yuri used his own card to destroy all Action Cards in both players' hands, so Yuuya was left with no other option than to discard "Smile World".

    • @isaiahnaegiVODs
      @isaiahnaegiVODs 8 місяців тому +35

      He could of still discarded "Evasion" since Yuri only negated that effect after Yuya played it, which is the smarter choice anyway as not only does he keep smile world, he ends the battle phase instead of just dodging one attack

      Yeah good eye, the way Yuya was holding the second action card looked more like he was trying to move it to the graveyard so he could activate his trap instead of just slapping it down to use it. • @RFDN0
      @RFDN0 8 місяців тому +2

      The big question is if an action card would count for the discard activation cost. The likely answer is yes, so it would have been a miss-play. The second attempt to survive with an action card seems to imply it could be used as such because I do not believe Miracle would have actually helped Yuya with an empty field. If Miracle could have, though, then he might not have been able to use action cards as the cost activation, which means he was trying to maintain resources which honestly isn't a bad idea in his situation.

    • @isaiahnaegiVODs
      @isaiahnaegiVODs 8 місяців тому +3

      @@caiusdrakegaming8087 Far as we know as well he ran to get them when Yuya did as any time we see Yuri on screen he doesn't move, I'm assuming Yuri had gotten the cards in that time because also you can only hold one action card at a time, so the card he used on miracle he *HAD* to of run to grab it since he used one on Evasion, meaning that was the one in his hand and he didn't have the one he used on Miracle yet
      Evidence of the one action card at a time thing: Yuya himself is forced to activate an action card he doesn't want to multipe times so he can get one that saves him, it's also mentioned multiple times that you can only carry one at a time and are not allowed to have multiple in hand
      Added on, let's say Yuri happened to have Action Break the whole time
      Yuya loses Evasion, but now has time to get another action card, Miracle, and discard that instead

  • @thattruegamernerd
    @thattruegamernerd 8 місяців тому +103

    Yuya was actually trying to discard Miracle in order to activate Break Away, we see him putting it towards his graveyard instead of his S/T Zone, so yeah he knew that he could use an Action Spell for its activation, it is just unfortunate that Yuri got Action Spell Advantage with Break Action, in fact if he got them reversed and Broke Evasion instead then yeah Yuya would have been able to do this. But definitely attempting to activate Evasion in that scenario absolutely was a misplay since it just negates one attack while his Trap would end the Battle immediately and then negate the opponents effects for the rest of the turn and all

    • @Zetact_
      @Zetact_ 8 місяців тому +5

      But that's not how chains work, he could have used his Trap in response to Break Action and sent Miracle as the cost before the effect of Break Action resolves. It's just an instance of the duel writing being forced by Yuya forgetting that Traps are the same spell speed as Quick-Plays.

      @@omermohammad1336 The OG anime has a lot of unique rules due to being an adaptation of the manga which didn't take irl rules into account (not even in Battle City, though it emulated the irl rules significantly more) but ever since GX the rules have more or less used the real world rules. There are generally three specific ways that they do sometimes diverge:
      1. What specific cards do (as in, "Bubbleman doesn't need an empty hand to draw 2 cards, only an empty field. That's just how it works in the anime." type of change).
      2. Having the phrasing/animations not reflect the exact mechanic (like sometimes they'll say a continuous effect "activates" or show a card hit with the "destroyed" animation instead of a "sent to GY" animation but those are just for dramatic effect and not mechanical representation).
      3. Rare interactions like monsters always being counted as being properly summoned regardless of if they were or not, or allowing activations of cards such that they resolve without effect even if they couldn't legally be activated.
      They've never had a rule divergence so large that it would change "A character can chain a trap card to a quick-play spell."
      Regardless on if the rules of costs are different or not, chaining Break Away to Action Crush would mean that all of Break Away's effects would take place prior to Action Crush. He can discard Miracle and then Action Crush resolves without effect. Instead Yuya allowed Action Crush to fully resolve, re-enter what could be described as a "pseudo open game state" (it was during an attack declaration, prior to the damage step) and then use his trap. It's simultaneously a misplay and a case of plot-induced stupidity.

      Your first 3 point doesn't change anything, because
      Number 1 is simply anime effect, its when konami thinks the anime effect is too great to be released (like there is way too many cards like that),
      No clue what Number 2 meant,
      And for Number 3, I don't think "the properly summoned from the extra deck" ruel exist in the anime, since the whole point of it in rl to make the game balanced, which isn't really what the anime care about
      Also in the anime (arcV specifically) the chain is all about speed, you can't stop the monster effect or attack to read it's effect which is part of why the opponent just announce the effect instead.
      The cost before activating the card is true and happened in many duels
      Tho you might not be wrong for saying how it happened was a plot armor, since the only way that could happen is if Action cards have the fastest activation speed in the game (which is also isn't far from true since you can see characters activating Action cards a less than a second from an attack connection or taking damage)

      I really loved the concept, but I think people dislike the execution. THe idea of the different dimensions was really cool, but the "Bias" element felt really forced and apparently the neutering of some beloved characters sat wrong with people (hello Alexis, top duelist in GX to damsel in distress). I think if the plot was more neutral with the dimensions all fighting each other and Yuya kind of focusing on uniting them all to show how versatile Yugioh can be with all these mechanics, it'd have resonated a lot more positively. It seems Duel LInks is fixing that element though by having the Yuboys come back to life and kind of see the results of everything first hand. Also interesting making Yuya the villain just like Jaden in GX as the plots mirror each other, It had good ideas...just needed better execution and control.

      I feel like Arc-V is an amazing "Yu-Gi-Oh! anime", but a bad "anime". The amount and variety of duels is probably the biggest across all series, since we get regular duels, tag duels, battle royales, speed duels etc., many decks that we know from the TCG were showcased in some shape or form, which is always cool (Konami, why didn't we get a Lightsworn user in 5Ds???) and bosses were most of the time well protected and showcased as well. Reiji being an actual Lancer's top guy, not protag, like it always happened, Jack was presented really strong and had a huge influence on Yuya and both Zarc and Yuri were foreshadowed and presented well for what they were. The problem was, it all felt super rushed and most episodes was just duels (sometimes not even the whole duel, just the finishing sequence). It was pushed from one tournament arc to another, also feeding Takahashi's (RIP) mind control fetish instead of just giving Rei girls some actual reason to duel. I would definitely recommend it if someone asked if it's worth to watch this after they finished the previous 4 series, but I would never recommend it "in bubble", even if prior knowledge of some characters wasn't needed (and tbh isn't pretty much all backstories are so different).
      Also Alexis has been nerfed immediately after Jaden defeated her in, like, episode 2 or 3, lol. Tough luck being a female character in Yu-Gi-Oh.

      I mean, that's not that odd, 5Ds went down the same route, although Arc V has both highest highs and lowest lows (but a more satisfactory final villain than plastic surgery).
      It got too lost in the characters during the synchro arc (though I still like it overall), and then the xyz and fusion arcs were compressed as a result (they have combined the same amount of legacy characters, and only Alexis mantains the characterization while Edo and Kaito just use a similar deck), making a lot of rushed and questionable decisions.
      Honestly, getting older I'm learning to appreciate more the other series, GX is actually far better than I used to give it credit for.

    One thing to mention is this duel began after another really emotional duel: Yusho vs Yuri. After Leo Akaba noped out of his duel with Yuya and Reiji, literally locked them behind a steel wall and started throwing the bracelet girls into the Arc-V reactor, effectively killing them in front of Yuya, Yuya was about to lose his mind in rage before Yusho pinned him to a wall and tried to calm him down. Yuri then busted into the room after his own rampage and Yusho challenged Yuri to a duel to remind Yuya of the importance of entertainment dueling.
    Yusho had just been made aware by Leo that the reality they were living in was fabricated and Yuya wasn't his real son and Yusho struggled with those feelings during the duel, but ultimately Yusho fought his hardest to help Yuya, even breaking through Yuri's OP Ivy Bind Castle.
    However, Yuri managed to create a sadistic effect loop using his two aces where he'd repeatedly destroy them to knock down Yusho's LP over and over while Yuya and his friends were forced to watch until he finally blasted Yusho across the room with Starve Venom and carded him just to enrage Yuya. Yuri could have won the duel earlier, but he made Yusho's loss as painful and humiliating as possible and then laughed in Yuya's face. That's also why it was incredibly painful to Yuya to have to sacrifice Yusho's Smile World to protect himself.

    Correct me if I'm mistaken, but Yuri/Joeri (his name is spelled like that at some point) could have activated some of his dragons effects during his last turn. Starving Venom or Dark Rebellion could have decreased Odd-Eyes ATK. If Yuya had continued to be slow on the trigger with Break Away, he would have lost. Also, funnily, if Dark Rebellion had only one Xyz-Material left, Yuya could not have won on his turn. Decreasing the Xyz Material for that would definitely been a hindsight-play, especially considering that activating Starving Venom is basically the same just better.
    One actual thing he could have done though is setting Predaplant Reborn turn one. That way, he could have used it during one of his turns to special Darlingtonia Cobra whose effect does not seem to have an "once per duel" restriction in the anime. That way, he would get an additional Poli (or maybe Super Poli) so he could get his other Fusion monster out.

    Yuri could have won this duel, if he had activated dark rebellions effect on odd-eyes yuya wouldn’t have materials left for when it was his turn. Of course yuri was in such a positions that it wouldn’t be smart to activated it and just save it. Because 1. He already has enough attack to win the game and 2. He has ridicule world, predaplant reborn, 3600 Lp and 3 dragons on the field. Yuya needed a perfect storm of specific cards to go through 2 traps and steal 2 dragons AND deal 3600 lp in a single blow.

Yuya had more than enough life points to survive the turn if clear wings attack was negated. He would have taken 2500 damage from a direct attack, but he would have survived. Yes activating break away would have prevented the direct attack as well, but Yuya wasn't forced to use it yet. He could have saved it for a more dire situation which is what we see him do. He tried to just take the damage and save break away for later. Ultimately the decision was between taking the damage and saving his trap, or using his trap in order to keep his life points higher in order to maybe use them as a cost later. I’d love to see one of these three duels discussed if it’s not too much to ask.-
    1. Sora vs Shun in their first duel :
    I think this is arguably the best duel in yugioh aside from the battle city duel between yugi and kaiba. Everything from the twists to the dueling, from the acrobatics to the expressions, it’s a near perfect duel.
    2. Dennis vs Shun in their speed duel/action duel :
    I loved this duel because it peeled back the layers of Dennis’ character in a way that made me love him even more than I already did. I think he’s a super underrated duelist and had an amazing arc throughout the series and would love to see if he could have won at any point in their duel if he had revealed himself earlier by choice.
    3. Specter vs lightning where specter almost completed the perfect link :
    I thought this duel was super cool to watch for the first time because it really made me believe that Specter was gonna win through lockout. Sunavalons are my favorite deck to use in my spare time all because of the board building you can do with them.
    As said I’d love to see any of these made, so no real order on any of them.👌

    For the longest time, Yuri could have been considered the strongest of the Yu boys, especially after defeating Yugo who technically defeated Yuto, but this duel with Yuya settled who was the strongest Yu boy, despite the negative outcome of Zarc being revived. I do agree that Yuya did manage to legitimately defeat Yuri and surpass him. Also for the record, in both the Japanese and English dub, Yuya did try to discard an action spell to activate his trap, after Yuri used an action spell to negate Yuya's first attempt to use an action card to stop Yuri's direct attack with Clear Wing Synchro Dragon. When Yuya tried to discard an action spell to activate his trap, Yuri used an action spell to destroy it, so Yuya had no choice but to discard smile world. I don't think that was a misplay on Yuya's part. It was just Yuri forcing his hand. Regardless, Yuya did manage to legitimately defeat Yuri, and became the strongest of the Yu boys.

      Fortunately, albeit very slowly, Duel LInks is picking up where Arc-V left off. Kind of acting as a "What happened after the end" so we do get some new story (VRAINS is doing the same, canonically taking place after the anime ended as Playmaker straight up says that "Duel Links exists in the VRAINS world and he also finally found AI, who mostly lost his memory and claims as a computer program he technically isn't the same AI who nearly destroyed the real world, but Playmaker is ... in his own way...happy AI is alive again.). I'm curious what Yuri will say when he appears though. but it was sweet to see Sora and Yuto able to settle their differences as Sora gave a heartfelt apology to Yuto and Yuto admitted he saw everything through Yuya's eyes and knows Sora's a good kid. It's...actually quite fascinating and worth keeping up with.

      I find that the "Specific conditions" thing happened a lot more in earlier series. Performapals as an archetype are known for thier versatility so them having a ton of varied "specific" effects is par for that archetypes course, since Odd eyes is really just a beatstick in the end of the day. Zexal's Yuma had a similar case with the Gagaga cards being all about level modulation so he could get out various XYZ monsters, but they too are pretty versatile. Yuma's just not that good of a deck builder, but managed to use the cards effects to gain advantage (like half unbreak to reduce his lifepoints just enough to get C39 Utopia Ray on the field, since you need less than 1000 life points left). The futher back you go though ironically...the more you see cases of "The ONLY reason you played that card in your deck is because you must've forseen this duel" as they kind of abuse Emergency rations and pot of Greed and other lifepoint recovery cards to make up for maining NORMAL MONSTERS and not really having a strategy. OR to get around the Seal of Orichalcos shenanigans.... (in the anime, it literally makes it impossible for your opponent to play the game but in real life, it's a 500 attack boost to all monsters but literally prevents YOU from playing the game....)
      Personally I'm glad they stopped letting outside forces and rule changes dictate the duels... and people thought Yugi was a cheater... XD

      The Dimensional Dragons cannot be merge by themselfs. Odd-Eyes is the only one with this ability because of the Pendulum power mechanic. Odd-Eyes is like a huge armor to the other Heavenly Dragons (like when a Pokémon/Digimon evolves with some part of an armor or something). Supreme King Zarc exists because of a forced fusion by Astrograph and the new Odd-Eyes Arcray exists by the power of the 4 nature cards combined with the powers of a new form of Astrograph (Supreme King Gate Magician) -which is not a forced fusion like Zarc. That's why the Dimensionl Dragons can only be combined with Odd-Eyes in their own formula using the Pendulum power (Odd-Eyes Wing, Odd-Eyes Rebellion...), or evolving by the Pendulum power on themselfs (Dark Anthelion, Starving Venemy...) or merging together as one by Astropraph's power (Supreme King Zarc and Odd-Eyes Arcray). Odd-Eyes Revolution tried be the same but is more a Odd-Eyes final form using the other 3 Dimensional Dragons' powers than a real combined form with the 4 of them

Largely because the narrative legwork it was one of the more structured duels for sure, which of course makes me wonder if the more cheerful Yuya could have won, or if he instead would have lost but done so in such a fun way even Yuri would want to not absorb him so they could duel again. I certainly could have accepted that ending too with no boss battle against Zarc.
    That said, the pressure to continue winning being what made Zarc into a monster and then made Yuya into Zarc was a fun narrative through line where the second Yuya said he'd focus on winning the viewer could realize it was over.

    to answer the question I would say it's very complicated (both sides could have won earlier on). this is because this duel was littered with mistakes by both players. In the first turn, yuya completely forgot about his timegazer's ability to seal Yuri's face down. this would have destroyed starving venom outright. in addition, coin dragon would have prevented both it and odd eyes's destruction due to its own effect. furthermore, there would be no tokens, and so yuri would have taken an additional 2200 damage as well. (yuri never set his predaplant reborn that turn, perhaps another mistake, though to be honest, the summon would have only prevented him from taking more damage). that said, during yuya's next turn, yuya activates drop gallop's effect. drog gallop is a level 5, and it lets yuya draw two cards. that effect could have essentually been negated by clear wing. this would have left yuya with no other option but to use coin dragon eff, but even before its activation, yuri could have activated his dragon creeping trap, and could have taken control of it. this would have forced yuya to end his turn, since the only other card in his hand would have been smile word. (from there yuri would have beaten him on the next turn). the factual conclusion: each side had an opportunity to severely cripple and potentially win the duel on an earlier turn.
    some interesting notes for yuri: 1, he did not choose to activate dark rebellion's effect, though this hardly mattered due to the breakaway trap, which by the way, yuya activated way too late. 2, yuri never did draw another predaplant for the rest of the duel, and that was a game changer. with predaplant reborn he could have brought back rising scorpio, discarded (his newly drawn predaplant monster), and summoned darling cobra. from there he would be able to bring out greedy venom fusion dragon. (this of course after yuya star trap was played) then, he could have used its effect to negate coin dragon, reduce its attack to zero, and dealt 3300 dam in one go).

    The scene where Yuya has Action: Miracle was him trying to pitch it to activate Break Away since Miracle's effect at that point wouidn't save him from losing (halves battle damage for 1 attack). Yuri had beaten him to the punch with Action Crush. That said, it's still a misplay on Yuya's part as he could've chained Break Away to Action Crush, allowing him to pitch Miracle to pay the cost and still keep Smile World.

    I have to say, I like the was blank about to beat blank reviews a lot more when there are outside factors at play along with the character's actual in game moves. Like the Yugi vs Raphael and this one. There's more then just what cards they draw and what moves they have available to them at play which can influence how the duel turns out. It makes these reviews more interesting because you have to think, well what if this factor wasn't there or how did this factor actually play into them making said good / bad play.

    While I do have my complaints about this duel being that Yuya REALLY should've remembered those action cards that he still had in his hand would have been great trade offs for activating his trap card instead of tossing away Smile World, the whole Smile World breakdown was way too much and Reiji REALLY should have choosen his words carefully to Yuya because then the end result is oh Yuya won.......FUCK WE ARE DOOMED!, I will always give the VA credit for voicing two characters and having them both duel with each feeling so different from each other. All of that aside, this was a fine duel and was nowhere near a mess as the big duel against Zarc was so great job TGS on this duel analysis!

    That's a mistranslation on Crunchyroll's part.
    Yuya actually says "That's only if you have Life Point remaining".
    The implication being that Yuri's manic boast about winning through Staving Venom's effect will only work if he survives Yuya's last attack, which we all know wont happen because of Odd-eye's damage doubling effect.

    That dragon vine thing is a shenanigans moment. XYZ monsters are immune to level based effects as they do not meet the criteria to be calculated. This was proven against Iggy Arlo, in which the final quote of the duel was 'Xyz monsters have ranks not levels.' which prompts the response from Iggy as his monster effect fails to both target and affect dark rebellion XYZ dragon; 'Oh no I can't stop it, there's nothing I can do.' meaning XYZ monsters are totally immune to level based targeting effects. So Yuri made an illegal move by snatching dark rebellion as dark rebellion does not fulfill the targeting criteria of his card.

    13:30 Actually, that's what he tried to do with the second action card he picked up! At 12:03, we can see him about to say that he's going to not activate 'Miracle', the action card he picked up, but send it somewhere, which we can assume was to the graveyard to activate Breakaway. Since Yuri activated Action Crush, though, he had to discard the card due to the effect of it instead of Breakaway, leaving him with nothing but Smile World to activate his trap with!
    (Which by the way was useless. Since 'Miracle' allows a monster to be unable to be destroyed in battle & halves all battle damage taken during the damage step and Yuya had an empty field, the card wouldn't have done anything.)

    10:28 I was initially thrown for an "oh no" moment here because Arc-V had previously gotten Xyz right back in season 1 with their whole "Not having a Level =/= Level 0" facet, which means Xyz monsters like Dark Rebellion ought to be immune to an effect that reads "target one monster your opponent controls with the lowest Level: gain control of it" due to the absence of Levels making them ineligible. However after reading the subtitles & checking the card's description on the wiki, it's actually snatching any one Dragon EXCEPT for the one with the highest Level, so it's fine we're all good; since Odd Eyes is Level 7 & Dark Rebellion doesn't have a Level due to being an Xyz, Odd Eyes has the highest level and thus couldn't be targeted, leaving Dark Rebellion as the only legal target.

    • @sasir2013

    I got one, how about examining and analyzing the starter deck from stardust accelerator. The deck includes some great starting cards, calculator and the creator make for a great combo, and three copies of mecha bunny give some good defense for battle and a bit of burn. Plus magical android is a good start. By using a bunny or the calculator and tune warrior, you can go into magical android, if you already have the creator out, then you can discard a card to bring back the calculator, in total that grants the calculator 4500 atk. In total with the other total, that is 9100 atk. A pretty good beat up team

      @VanishEclipse4867 in Yuri's last turn, he could have used any of his dragon's effects to do serious damage to Yuya (could have chained Clear wing to Starving Venom to force the field wipe and burn Yuya in the process). The big issue is that had Yuri used Dark Rebellion's effect even once, Yuya wouldn't have won on the following turn.

    • @MarioMastar

      I think Yuri's goal wasn't to win the duel, but break Yuya's spirit. One of those cases where he didn't care about the outcome of the duel, but the longer it lasted, the more chances he had of breaking Yuya to submission. After all, He didn't want Yuya to fuse and then end up resisting and causing trouble for Z-ARC, he wanted Yuya to be all in on it and lose his soul.
