- This is the minimalist challenge - you're going to grab your lens & camera and make your way around your neighborhood and take some photos. Pye often does this exercise in his photography workshops to challenge his students to use minimal gear to get the shot and focus on the artistry rather than the gear.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR WATCHING! - Навчання та стиль
Good stuff Pye. You can see what distinguishes photographers from youtubers. 35mm, composition, light, great posing versus 85mm 1.2, blur the background and you're done.
Chloe seems way experienced and knew what was up even before Pye finished explaining it to the viewers, wow.
When I was taking photography classes back in the early 90's all of the students including myself used a 35mm film camera and one lens. That one lens was a 50mm lens. I used a Nikon FM2n and a 50 f/1.8 and learned photography that way. It's 2021 and I'm using a Canon 5Ds and a 35 f/2.0 IS USM, I've discovered after owning many lenses that the 35 is all I need, it does everything I need to do plus it has IS which is awesome!
I usually end up shooting from light into dusk, so I bring my flash with me. But my general rule is to use natural light until you can’t, then break out the flash.
This must be one of the most educational photography videos I've seen on this site, great job!
Those shots at the bush made my day. And the model... she is gorgeous !
What an awesome way to spend a Sunday. I know what I'm doing tomorrow
Basics...makes a world of difference in your photography....love it. Going out today and get back to basics.📷
Great advice, just gotta find the right composition and keep training the eye to see these things!! Great content as always Pye!
Pye, you are a genius. Thank you for all the tips.
I just bought the Canon 35 f2 for my 550D Rebel T2i to take pictures of analogue artwork. Yep, there was a time before digital. And now it's digital. So great.
Totally loved it!
Awesome job! Honestly, your videos are the best. I can learn so much from them with such simple tips.
Very nice and great presentation Pye! The great thing about Photography aside from Lighting is playing with angles, you did very good at showing how can one make what is available to work its best. Thanks ADORAMA for having videos like this on your channel to helps us with all the great Gear you have available at your wonderful store!
Also I love your way of reflecting ur phone mirror. I never try that one. Great concepts of this
It is an awesome tutorial, Pye. I am learning a lot by following your thinking process. Thank you for sharing great ideas and contents.
Great lens choices! I personally love a 35mm for environmental portraits!
The model looks fabulous! Hope to see her again on this channel.
This video s really inspiring ! It helps to reach the most creativity level as possible with the minimalist gear! Keep on Pye
What!!! That trick with the phone was soo good!! Love that tip.
Thanks I needed this.
you are great Pye . it really works ,paying attention to our surrounding , thank you
pye you are the best!!!
Great video loved it, so many useful tips and techniques to try. Thank you.
Great video! Fantastic shots! Especially at the end!
13:26 Love you putting Chloe in the middle of the trees. Like that leading lines.
6:27 hahahaha. Good stuff my guy Pye
Thanks for that!!! i learned a lot!
Im so doing this!
Enjoyed the video a lot. Thanks.
Just found this video... I have to say I always enjoy your videos... and so many of the concepts I use you suggested... the only difference for me is I use a single 85mm rather than a 35mm, but that is simply personal choice... thanks again!
Thank You Master🙏👍
Amazing !!!
I never thought looking at live view mode. I been using viewfinder a lot but never live view mode. Ur video looks awesome. I am going to try that with my 35 lense
Really well done; I've honestly struggled with 35mm portraiture and this was really eye-opening as to the possibilities it holds. Question: are the slightly angled sidewalk and street lines in the background scene #4 an issue? I've heard some portrait shooters say they do matter while others say the model's orientation carries more weight so that can be ignored.
very helpful video. And Chloe is gorgeous
Those poses are awesome. ❤👍
This is a million dollars video. 👍😅😅
Chloe is stunning !!!
15:53 the best picture
Liked a lot the tips
Well done! I’m in the photography hobby in and out. I have 35 mm f/1.8 G. This video has boosted my confidence up 😊
I like it thank you
this is a greaT task! I have being walking with my camera and 2 lenses, a 20 mm and 50 mm for my APS nikon and it has being great challange and as mention, you do more pictures and work faster. I come from the 35 mm film era so a my first lense was a 28 mm so I am at home when working with the 20 mm (30 mm in APS-C) .... Thanks for the video! love them!
In the late 1960's to the mid 1970's, I used 35mm f/2 and 85mm f/1.8 Nikkors on Ye Olde Nikkormat FTN. I added lenses as needed, though the 90-230mm f/4.5 Soligor was slow, unsharp, flare-ridden, etc. The 55mm f/3.5 Micro-Nikkor was a much better choice.;)
nice simple and powerful presentation 😍😍😍
More of such challenge
Amazing video, learn so much! Really creative!
Is 24mm lens also a better choice or 35mm lens? I would like to consider getting one of this prime lens?
amazing, new subscriber here :) i learned a lot. tnx so much
Wow! 😮 brilliant techniques! Model is very professional too! 😊 ❤
Thanks for these idea man!
35mm lens is the best!
Thanks everyone for all the comments & feedback! We love to hear it and glad you are enjoying the content! Let us know if you have any follow up questions, we will do our best to answer :)
Well, also I think we sometimes can reach an understanding, that owning lots of lenses, etc, does nothing meaningful for the craft.
Having owned and used so many (formats, lenses, etc) over 40years, I now simply use one camera, a very fast wide (EFL 30mm) and one very fast long-ish std. (EFL 64mm) lens. The 32/0.9 gets used the most, prob. 60-70% of shots. Selling my excellent, but superflous equipment has collcoincided with a big jump in the quantity and quality of my photography. Worth a try, yes.
Was the better exposure on her also down to there being more dark objects in frame (trees) and in the dark exposure the background was a lot brighter hence the camera under exposing ??.
His minimalist setup is my normal setup lol #broke
Everyone starts somewhere! It's not the gear that matters it's the technique :)
Awesome video
omg iphone trick is dope
Excellent tutorial, yet again, Pye!
Question: would using a small zoom (i.e 24-105mm?) defeat the purpose of this exercise or would you ever suggest it for a 'One Lens Challenge'?
I have an 85mm f1.8 prime but that sounds like it would have its own challenges.
Thanks in advance and continued success!
I don't think so. You might get 24-105mm zoom range, but you'll lose the aperture and the ability to get out of focus areas as well. So you'll still have a compromise there
Chole was well-trained.
Could anyone experienced tell me why some of the photos seems so dark before the retouching? Shouldn't they be slightly brighter in-camera when you take them?
Nice bike!
You mentioned workshops ? where do i signed up ?
Great video, any consideration to doing something for those of us stuck in crappy overcast winter weather?! Please :)
You can get similar shots using the same compositional techniques, just no sun flares.
Wow! Your compositions are phenomenal! When you saw RAW SOOC, you literally mean unedited straight out of the camera, correct? Not even slightly touched one bit?
Was out walking 10km last night. Only with 50mm 1.8.
My challenge to you. Do this without a model 😉 accepted? 🤔 Use the environment.!
50r with mitakon 65mm.
genial
Pye if your presets are on "lut's" for affinity photo I want them
Currently, they are only available for Lightroom and Lightroom Mobile.
I'm waiting for comments from elsewhere in the country regarding the fact you're shooting in January in your lush green neighborhood in a t-shirt under cloudless skies. 🤣🤣🤣
We had great warm weather here in middle Europe this week. Why not?
😍👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💕
My last wedding i just use 1 lens the whole shoot, sigma 50mm f1.4 ex dg
How come for a wedding?
Nice video, but one of the conditions for the challenge is shooting in the middle of the day, this video was not made with midday sun.
i only have one lens
It is actually a hedge not a bush.
It would be easier if I knew what I was doing
Proactive photographer yes. The bush scene is a no go my 2 cents the lights on at the top edge of the bush create a split off her head disctrating I feel. Pronounce Split horizons at shoulders and heads have always been avoidance in tradition old school photography no can do! Tight crowded look sorry I call it as I see
Turkish language CC :(
The photographer's Speaking were too serious, there was no lighthearted atmosphere, not good 👎keep relaxing is better 👍
