As a former WoW player myself, when I started playing FF14, I knew that it would probably take some time for the story to get going, I had no doubt about it. I was interested and intrigued, still took me like a month to finish the entire ARR MSQ, but when I reached the end of ARR, I was hooked by the way they brought all these story threads together in such a gut-wrenching way. If I had any doubt before about sticking with this game, the end of ARR all but dispersed them. I've been playing this game since October 2021. Next month is my 3rd year of playing.
Oh, he isn't ready. He's not ready for the Vault, he's not ready to be welcomed to Shadowbringer's and he is 100% not ready for The Walk. This will be delicious to watch.
He's crying at Answers and he's only just left ARR? Consider me watching from now on! Congrats on making it to Heavensward. You're in for one of the best emotional rollercoasters in video games from here on out.

Ah yes, the second time the game takes you by the hand, leads you into an event, and then proceeds to stab you in the heart repeatedly. The Waking Sands was when I knew FFXIV wasn't screwing around. This is when I knew they were going somewhere truly legendary.
Been playing since the Leviathan or King Moogle patch, but it was this bit of the MSQ that convinced me "wait a minute, maybe the writers might have some potential" and became invested in it. Paid off.
58:44 Yugiri’s face reveal was a pretty big deal because at time of release of 2.55 she was the first character of a new race ever added to the game. We had seen female aura player characters as a feature advertised of heavensward But there were none in game yet outside of her and she had a mask on

Followed immediately by a camera pan, revealing a shirtless guy doing squats in the background. ^^ When I first started the game as an Au Ra, I was so confused why Yugiri was walking around with this giant sack over hear head, when the silhouette so clearly marks her out as an Au Ra. At the time, I didn't know, they were only added in in Heaven's Ward and thus either her head wasn't finished yet, or they wanted to keep the new playable race a secret a little longer, before making the reveal in the final post-ARR patch, right here. This is why you should never play FF14 MSQ without a box of tissues in reach. They are just too good at make those tears flow... and they'll get even better from here on out. What's the saying? You either drop FF14 in ARR, or become a walking, talking advertisment for the game. By the way, did I mention that you can play the game and it's award winning expansion for free, or how did that line go again? :P

Lolorito is an interesting character. We never got his backstory in the game, but it was in the Encyclopedia. He is a self-made Lalafel. He arrived in the city with the clothes on his back working as a day labourer. All of his riches he accumulated with ruthlessness and drive. When the Calamity happened and half of the city was burned he gave away 2/3 of his wealth to rebuild it. I am not saying he is a good guy. He isn't. But he is a man who loves and believes above all else in the promise of his adopted city. That the capable will rise by any means to the top and that makes them worthy of holding power. Thats why he opposed the sultana. To him she did not earn her new power and influence.
Ahhh man, the party that changed everything. The moment when my WoL had no choice but to become his own person and actually grow into his role, instead of just "Well, I guess I'm the hero, I'll just do that". Raubahn utterly *cracking* was one hell of a turning point.
Honestly this whole segment of the game was unreal, I didn't think it was going to get any better than that... then we logged out, watched the HW trailer and logged in to an in-game welcome to Ishgard 🥹
Welcome to the end of what many consider the weakest part of the FF14 journey. I still look back on ARR with fondness, but Heavensward, Shadowbringers, and Endwalker are my favorites. Low points but so many high points. Always remember, take your time, enjoy every step on your own personal journey. The tears will be many, the silent times you look at the landscape and those you loved most in this journey will always be there to keep you walking forward. From Coils to Alexander, or you raising crafting stats, or even doing Blue Mage. . .enjoy it all. We will always welcome everyone new or returning with open arms and be there with them on their journey. - From a Bunny Boy working on the perfect glamour.
Thancred's voice was the one I had hardest trouble adjusting to when they switched VA company after this arc... ......also agree that you have more agency in FF: I remember in WoW that you'd go into a room and it was all "shut up while the grownups are talking"... plus flipflop Kerrigan wannabe Silvanas..
Congrats on the End of ARR. It only gets better etc. etc. Jessie Cox said it right: Most MMOs are MMORPG whereas FFXIV is an RPGMMO. Story is the main focus rather than a race to endgame. I don't know if you've watched the NoClip documentary on 1.0->2.0. It well worth watching (off stream). Also, from this part onwards the VA's change, mostly for the better. I'll let you decide on the "mostly" :) And yes, this is the best MMO ever.

This is where I felt that FFXIV's story went from decent and started to accelerate into amazing very quickly. HW is an amazing story, SB is amazing, ShB was, at the time, the best story of any RPG. Then Endwalker came out and blew every storyline away. People complain about DawnTrail being mid storyline-wise, but that's just the "Final Fantasy 8 effect" (FF8 was an amazing game, but there's no following FF7)

This game had me when after getting sliced the evil Potato fell forward on his knees but the rest of him fell backwards. 10/10
