    I was riding this weekend and I passed a 1%er club here in southern Cali at a light before the freeway. They eventually caught up to me like I knew they would and I moved to the left of the carpool lane and gave them(8 or so) room to pass me up. They all gave the peace sign as they passed and we kept it pushing. Respect

  • @drtomintucson
    @drtomintucson 2 роки тому +57

    And I might add, when we are riding in a pack, in formation, safety is everything. If someone in a car or on two just blows past, that's a safety issue. If the group catches up with you later, mc or not, they are likely to let you know that that was a dumb thing to do.

      If you give a 1% club space to pass there will be no issue. However.
      If you're a group of bikes taking up the lanes, we will cut through your pack.
      If you're a car in the passing lane, we will over take and under take you.
      Riding hard and riding free is a high value, not riding safe. I wouldn't recommend anyone to confront or lecturer a 1% club on what their values should be. I'm not trying to be a dick, this is how it is.

      As someone who has gotten stuck behind packs on beautiful streches of road where I *couldnt* ride my ride, i dont get the whole Blowing past packs as disrespectful.
      Mind you i pass every bike, pack, car the absolute same way, plenty of space, no cutting off, at spots where its possible safely.
      I personally think Not making space for people that‘d prefer to go a little faster and having them basically stuck behind you, is disrespectful.
      I will absolutely move over and let them pass safely when i see them in the rearview mirror, be it a pack, some crotchrockets, whatever.
      tl;dr: If you or your pack obstructs my ride, i will blow past you at the next safe opportunity.

  • @graywolf9419
    @graywolf9419 2 роки тому +5

    It all boils down to respect, a lot of people say that respect is earned, and to a point that is true. But, you must have respect for yourself before you can start expecting it from others. Having respect for yourself means that you don't go around doing stupid shit. You don't roll up next to a car full of women and kids and try to scare them by staring them down or yelling something to make them think you are going to hurt them. That not only is disrespectful to the people in the car, it's disrespectful to yourself and it's disrespectful to every other person on a motorcycle. Because once you have intimidated those people you have also made them angry on a base level. And from that point on they will have some level of hatred for anyone riding a motorcycle, and that could cause them to be less careful the next time they change lanes and come close to clipping a motorcycle or crowding the rider to the point of causing them to crash. The same thing goes for other people on motorcycles. You might think it's funny to blow past a pack of bikes going twice the speed that the group is doing. And this time nothing happens because they are experienced riders, but what about the next time you fly past a pack of bikes and that group has several inexperienced riders that are with the group getting the hang of riding with a pack for the first time. You fly past only inches away and one of the new riders reacts by swerving away from you and suddenly they collide with the bike next to them and cause a chain reaction crash that could not only injure several people but chances are you may have just killed some of them. All because you want to act like you don't have to respect anyone because you don't know them. And what happens if you rocket past vehicle with a soccer mom driving her kids and several others to their game, and she is startled by you flying past without warning and she loses control of her vehicle and ends up colliding with a semi truck. How cool or badass are you now? Do you want to relive that crash in your head over and over? Because you can be sure that the soccer mom will for the rest of her life. Next time you are rolling down the street or highway and you are about to blow past someone, they may not even know you are around. And if you cause them to swerve or jam on the brakes, you might not even see the crash you just caused because you are already a mile down the road. But next time it might be you that gets hurt because some other throttle jockey just caused that soccer mom to swerve and she just ran into you.

    West coast dyna rider here. I end up doing a lot of solo riding these days, and grew up around the culture (which I am thankful for). The only advice the old timer who got me into riding told me was "Stay upright". These words have evolved as I have gotten older (now 40). In my mind it boils down to the basics. Show respect, listen, never stop learning, harness common sense. When you are first on the road.. everything is new, but it doesn't take long to get into the groove unless you flat-out don't care. I believe more often than not people write their own ticket. Respect -- J.

    Just found this channel and I use to work in and around bike culture and always found it very interesting but it's just not for me. I'm a muscle car guy through and through, but I do respect all riders when I see them. My old ladies pops is a hard core rider all his life and I've see what happens when people are ignorant of riders and people get hurt quickly. I did have one run in with a real deal 1% crew, about 40 of them riding ahead of me in very tight formation, flowing in unison. I was in my murdered out 440 swapped 71 Dodge Dart. I gave them plenty of room as I followed behind them, the tail gunner must have gotten their attention and they slowed way down and eventually waved me on, I was very hesitant to do it because it was a two lane highway, but it was flat and about 3 miles of pure open straight stretch, they eventually coaxed me so I grabbed a gear or two, turned on my red halos, and smashed the go pedal. I pulled into the local parts store in town and they all swooped in to check out the ride and were all very kind. They all told me they wanted to hear that mopar scream lol. When I left they were still there and getting ready to leave themselves, and I gave them a bit of a smoke show on my way out. They caught up with me and I got a bunch of big thumbs ups and waves as they pushed on. It was cool to see and respect each others rides on the street.

But some people are just idiots and they’re hardheaded, they have something in their lives that pushes them to say/act stupid shit. I was in The Navy like that and like you, I tried to help them, give them knowledge and they were just determined to do thing their way and almost every time they got their asses handed to them one way or another. And all these “tough” guys out there claiming they don’t/won’t give respect to certain people in certain situations, well you gave them the knowledge Sose, it’s up to them. Love the channel brother I’m just a 42 year old Veteran who never was really Into gangs or groups but always had people around me from every type of life. It just about respect both ways once someone is told and they don’t respect that then it just goes from there. If it’s a good group then they don’t let that power go to their head.

    I was out on my Honda RC51 (own an electra glide also) one day riding (riding, not acting a fool) northbound on US-24 (2 northbound left turn & 2 southbound lanes littered with buisnesses) and came across a pair of local LEMC club members traveling with a car tailing them who used both bikes and the car after a stop light to block both N.B. lanes at a speed of 35 in a 55 to keep me behind them.
    I understand the concept completely in dealing with a pack, but a pair?...well away from anything considered 'terrirory' choosing to disrupt things, unprovoked all the while directing these actions at a completely unaffiliated, stand alone individual? It really seemed childish to think they wouldn't just go about their buisness, get t.f. down the road and get on with it. I guess they had something to prove.

    The ones whom are saying "so I gotta magically know all these self imposed rules? I thought biking was about freedom of the open road, not all these rules. Or this or that".
    Not speaking for everyone, but when I road as a lone wolf I never had an issue. I didn't try to pretend being something I wasn't and just gave the two finger salute to all bikes I could see. If you're not being a dick intentionally you really have other things to worry about, ie that car pulling out or animal crossing on the other side of that turn. Just be cool

    I appreciate the info and tips you provide. I’m not a club guy, I’m a workaholic. A club lifestyle doesn’t fit my life. That being said, when I do get a chance to ride, I definitely don’t want my day screwed up because I unknowingly pissed someone off. I ride an old Super Glide. I don’t care if someone’s on a Honda, a rocket or whatever. 2 wheels is what matters and I think we should all look out for one another regardless of club affiliation. I enjoy events centered around bikes and I always end up meeting really cool people and learning something from them. Sometimes they’re ranking club guys other times they’re nobody’s like me. Be a real man and treat others with respect and dignity and you’ll have no problem.

    Sose, as always you are on point. it it not just about respect but safety. people will pass a group of bikes and can't help but try to look at every bike as they pass. also it's not just about diamond clubs but RC's as well. we do all have to share the road but do it wisely. bikers always get a bad rap but deserve to be respected on the road just like everyone else.

    ML Sose and respect for educating the public, unifying our culture, and helping create a new image for a new day. As MC OG's in a new modern high tech information era we must create a new public images. Those bygone era days are over and they're not coming back. We're like pro athletes, we all play on our respective teams and it can get competitive. But at the end of the day we are all playing the same sport. Thanks for explaining this IMPORTANT MESSAGE! C'mon people, seriously, safety, courtesy, and common sense at all times. I've seen a lot of senseless tragedies and painful tears.
