This was a life saver for real. I live in my car due to losing my place and job after covid and when my starter went out I really thought it was the end for me and was about to give up but after watching this I realized I can do it. I found a used starter from b n r auto wrecking for $71 and was able to install it quickly. I was so worried I was going to be towed and loss my only form of shelter so thank you thank you thank you. I'll pay it forward and help who ever I can if there stuck on the side of the road. I always do.god bless brother

    Outstanding video!
I replaced my starter on Monday & this was a life saver. I took pictures along the way to verify specific bolt locations so that nothing was not in correct location.
After I installed the new starter it started right up without a problem. However there was a rookie mistake at which I forgot to plug the sensor back into the throttlebody lol
All in all the only thing I would add is if any feminine women suddenly develop the urge to work on vehicles make sure to use big curved nose pliers when undoing clips so that you do not break a nail.💃💋
Thanks for sharing & helping out people in need of tips

You saved my life with this, man. I had given up on getting this starter out, which meant losing my job, being out on the street, turning to crime, prostitution, and the brief respite offered by drugs. You really helped me out. That sounds like a joke, but that's the reality of being in a tough spot with no options.

Let me add another complement to your video. I just finished replacing my starter on my 2013 kia in a parking lot. I've never had a starter go out the way this one did. It was working great.....never an issue. Drove to my work location finished my work. Got in my Kia to drive home and the starter wouldn't turn over the engine. Made a strange whining sound. I could tell it was the starter. Picked one up the next day at Autozone and replaced it. Your video provided great information to assist - not removing the intake manifold but just loosening it....great advice. Worked perfectly. Thank you!

I managed it without disconnecting the coolant hose at either end, just removing the clamp in the middle. Also, I did not want to loosen the intake, so there was some extra fiddling and cramped/crunched arms, wrists and fingers, but it worked! (In hindsight, didn't save myself any trouble there). Really appreciate the help. Saved me serious $.

Great video. Helped me do this on a 2013 Kia optima. One thing that may be different on the 2013 is that I could not get the starter out without removing the whole bracket below the intake manifold that supports it. Feel the bracket back to where it connects to the block and there are two screws to remove. With this bracket out of the way the starter pretty much comes straight down

  • @gunsmoke7573

Worked like a charm on 2018 Kia Optima. Even easier because fan is held by 1 screw (11mm socket) at the bottom and two push clips on left and right top side. The hose is routed differently and easy to move out of the way. Be sure to have some string to hold hoses and other parts out f way if necessary. *Didn't have to loosen the intake at all. Took about 30 seconds of jockeying to get the starter to dropped beneath the intake with full access to wires. Used long extension to remove nuts.*
After rewiring you will be able to push the starter back into place fairly easily because their is a cavity underneath the intake where the wiring goes.
The hardest part was realigning the starter to screw into the bolts. Push an allen wrench or screwdriver or similar to in one of the bolt holes for support the starter's weight while you screw the first one in.

  • @Jimbolo619
    @Jimbolo619 2 роки тому +8

Great video. One thing that wasnt mentioned in this video however, is that the coolant system should be bled for air after the installation of the starter. Anytime any coolant hose is disconnected the coolant system needs to be bled to avoid air pockets in the system, which can cause failure with water pump, thermostat etc. If you dont bleed the system you should be okay but the proper way to avoid serious engine issues due to the cooling system is to bleed the system properly. You can look up videos on that also.

Great presentation thank you. I'm not sure if my starter is the culprit or my battery. I trickle-charged battery all night (will test it later with voltage meter) but it didn't make a difference when I tried starting the car. It almost feels like the battery is weak, but not 100% sure. My question is how do you know the starter is bad vs the battery or the alternator? When I push the starter button it struggles to turn over, (the cranking is very labored) but it starts. I'm having trouble understanding what it really is. I've never had a starter go bad so I don't know what the symptoms are. Labored starting or turning over is basically the deal. Thanks for any input on this. I'm trying to avoid spending money not needed by understanding the logic behind the process.

This video was EXTREMELY helpful!!!! The only complaint that I have is that my starter didn’t come out or go in exactly like yours and I think you may need to think about your definition of lose a “little” coolant lol.

Awesome video I just didn’t want to mess with the cooling system so I left it intact just move the hose out of the way. But other than that straight follow all the way !! Thanks again

Yep. Several folks have done that. Makes sense and saves having to buy antifreeze. Thank you for the feedback.

Thanks for the video. It mostly gave my the confidence to do it knowing it didn’t have to take the whole air intake off. Took me 1.5 hours. Back together in about 5-10 mins. Funny how that works out. I’m commenting though to add that with I figured it was worth trying and with alittle finesse you can skip loosening the air intake all together! Thanks for the video!! Will subscribe.

Just want to add though if you take the entire air box off it gives you lots of room and that helped a lot too, takes just a min or two and pops right off.
