- Follow along as I plant 80 acres of soybeans as a brand new farmer with zero experience. I'll share every detail and show you everything that went wrong during my rookie planting season here in 2024.

planting the outside rows (headlands) first or last is really a matter of preference. We do them last, but guys with sectional control will do them first. The headlands are pretty beat up anyways because that's where all the equipment has to turn around, so I wouldn't worry about compaction around the outside of the field too much. With smaller equipment you are making more passes to complete a field, but your compaction is less. Compaction is really bad if you're driving around in a wet field and have wheel slippage.
Congrats on finishing planting! I love your attitude, farming has a lot of ups and downs!
Thank you for that. Feel better knowing I didn’t screw that up too bad. Thanks for watching!
Remember use shell rotella motor oil in the tractor, mystic high temp grease and use bar and chain oil to lube the chains. Check air pressure in the tires and take care of your equipment
Thank you!
I pray for a blessed first year
Cant wait to see how its going to go
Keep up the good work 👌🏻
Thank you!
if you plant the outside first you get a better seed depth, if you plant them last it is more compacted and you won't have a perfect seed bed and depending on your down force, maybe some kernels will lay even on top.
Thank you! That does make sense!
We drove over beans about 3 times after planting lol they’ll be fine no worries as long as you don’t create deep ruts water sits in those ruts and it will rot seed or burn your plants up wish you the best Out there ….love the content ❤
Thank you!
It should be a little better compaction-wise if you plant the outside rows last. But I think the yield loss is marginal. Seed depth and spacing are much more important to watch. :)
Thank you!
We always plant the end rows first, so the gps knows where to shut the rows off. But even if you don’t have that capability you still know where to pick the planter up, minimizing overlap.
Heads up - when you open the lids to the seed boxes, just pop them open and they'll slide towards you in those rails along the side and drop down hanging vertical at the rear of the planter. Makes it a bit easier to keep them out of the way and not lose track of them or let them get blown away.
Thank you! Thats going to make things much easier going forward!
I’m so proud of you!
Awe thanks!
This is awesome! Based on the grey showing through in your beard I'm guessing we are about equal age, and I just happened to have left work about 14 months ago to do the same thing on a smaller scale. Definitely going to sub and hope I can learn a lot watching!
Thanks for watching. Are you gonna document your progress on UA-cam? Would love to follow along your journey. Thanks for watching!
@@Suits2Boots ha, no, I dont think so. you know how the farm is - its always the competing interests of trying to get ahead somewhere without falling behind elsewhere, and while you only have the time you make I can never seem to find the energy to make time for things outside of that competition. That which I do, I try to devote to learning. Learning to be a mechanic, learning to be a botanist, learning to be a vetrenarian, learning to be an arborist, etc etc etc. I feel that others, such as yourself, are doing a fantastic job at saying what I would want to say, regardless.
Amazing video
Appreciate it. Thanks for watching!
imagine planting for 3 weeks straight!
I can't imagine. You guys are on another level! Thanks for what you do to keep our food supplies at needed levels.
It's fun, I love your videos because we came from the same thing, it's hard! Keep up the good work!
The case drain isn’t too cool the oil , it’s too return the oil back into the tractor from the vac motor on planter
Ah got it. Thank you!
Very nice video mate. I think your flowrate from the hydraulic valve of your tractor going into the valve for the vacuum is too high. Maybe try to adjust it on the tractor side a little down.
Great tip. I will check that. Thanks for watching!
What combine are you planning on getting? I would get a case if I were you.
Need to do some research on them. I know absolutely nothing about them, but it's on the radar now. I'll look into Case. Thanks!
No problem I just wanted to let you know because we have a case combine and it has farmed 1000 acres for 12 years and has been pushed hard
If your not using GPS your going to want to use your markers to make sure you are getting the right spacing
Unfortunately, the side markers are plumbed independent of the up/down, which means I need 3 remotes to operate the markers. One for the vacuum, one for the up/down, and one for the markers. My tractor only has 2 remotes at the moment. So, being that I’m planting beans this year and the 30” rows don’t need to be perfect, I chose to plant without markers. Before corn next year I’ll get the markers plumbed with the up/down so I only need 2, or I add a 3rd remote to the tractor. I ended up using the previous years corn stalks nubs as markers this year. I just kept my tractor on every 4th row and followed it just like so I would a line from a marker. It seemed to work pretty good. Learning as I go! Thanks for watching!
@@Suits2Bootsyou can plumb them in to the same remote but it’s a pain, we used to have one like that, now we use a fasse hydraulic valve which lets you switch between them with an electric switch.
We plant the outside rows first not really a right or wrong just verys so much from feild to feild. IMO
We also personally plant through our waterways/waterruns just easier.
Depending on how bad the hydraulic leak was we'd probably leave it until after we're done planting.
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Got it!
Ya that's how you plant a feild the thing your doing wrong is not using the markers and I get the feeling your using the wrong oil and that's why your o ring is bursting
Thanks. Good to know. The markers dont' work ebcause they need a 3rd remote. My tractor only has 2. Next year I'll plumb the markers with the up/down function so I can use them. Figured with beans this year the 30" rows didn't need to be perfect, and I used the previous years corn stalks as markers to guide me. Seemed to work quite well.
@@Suits2Boots Yeah maybe you could ask your dealer if they can install a third remote. This should be fairly easy for them as the tractor had the option from the factory.
What a struggle. Can’t believe you aren’t getting so discouraged. At least you’re learning a lot in the process.
@@paulamurzin867 such is farming
@@Suits2Boots um you could do the adding a remote thing I will say though for next year if you decide to do corn idk what your rotation is but the big thing on the planter that your definitely going to to want to do is remove those fertilizer boxes that stuff just rusts things and is just a mess but then id replace them with nitrogen tanks liquid is just so much nicer also for best yealds next year id figure out who to talk to that can do soil samples and then see ok pH is low lets find someone custom to aplly lime because your first years you want to just get the tillage and the planting and the harvesting thing down then make your life harder by trying new things
Are the beans up already?
yes they are! here's the result: ua-cam.com/video/G65iY_3KcEs/v-deo.html
