I trust Thab to be selective enough with his sponsors. I don’t remember who but I saw someone this week try and promote that Skull and Bones game which is getting critically obliterated, and thought that was a little embarrassing.
My uncle was a developer on this game, he was one of the world moddelers. The track with no barriers was suppsoed to have them but was overwritten by an older versoion of the track before the barriers were added. However it wasn't caught before release and as there was no way to patch it after release it stayed that way. I remember playing this as a kid and trying to build up loads of qualifying points as I'd usually come last on that track, however with enough points you can still scrape by.
This was my game! Spent so many hours and I 100% the game multiple times. It was so addictive and the music puts you in a party mode. A lot of nostalgia.
If it's any consolation, I doubt it's actually a "love letter" game. I bet that's just as good as they could get the graphics on their limited budget, so they decided to call it a "7th generation homage" to make the subpar graphics seem intentional.
I definitely get the feeling those cheats at the end were some kind of dev tools to help them model the game. Lower graphics, partially invisible tracks. Even the ‘bonus track’ looks like it was a demo track for testing and they just kept it in lol
Yeah, this is one of those games I have great memories of. The sense of speed, especially at the time, felt pretty unrivalled. It was absolutely crazy. Fully agree about the soundtrack, too. So many bangers.
"maybe even the best soundtrack on the 64" yea man this games soundtrack was actually insanely cutting edge, Goa trance had just started solidifying as a genre around 95 and this games music is really ahead of where the genre was at the time. This is closer to like 1998-1999 styles thanks to the higher bpm. Game's ost shaped my taste in music forever 💜
I love seeing people visit the Extreme-G games, be it, the first, second, third or fourth. Since I speedrun each game in the Extreme-G series, I always love seeing people say that they loved playing this game. I will always standby my statement that XG1 is one of the best racers on the Nintendo 64, yeah F-Zero X is cool and all, but Extreme-G just FEELS fast. for F-Zero you have to hit a certain speed threshold to have the game feel fast. I hope you enjoyed the playthrough of the game. I am not surprised that you just unlocked "Bonus Track - The Island" with the unlock code haha.
I played the hell out of this game back in the day, and I think a big part of that was the banger of a soundtrack. Even to this day, I'll sometimes put on the Extreme-G soundtrack on in the background while I work.
Enjoyed playing this one as a kid. I remember using a "fisheye" cheat to give a faster appearance to driving and then also infinite boosters to make the speed through the roof. You couldn't really tell what was going on, but i thought it was so cool going that fast haha. Last year my kids wanted to have a dance party (they're 2 and 4), so i put this game's soundtrack on and strobelight the bedroom. They had a blast haha
I actually had this as a kid. I remember thinking it was like a hard star wars episode 1 pod racer. The sense of speed in this game is amazing. It's hard but still fun to play. An underrated gem
One of the early exclusives for N64. This is actually very good series with lots of cult fanbase even these days. Shame that there has been only 3 sequels, really.
omg this is the one i've been waiting for. I begged my parents for this game when I was younger, and played this religiously. all i remember is that no one else wanted to play this vs Tony Hawk or Smash hahaha. oh well, this is an awesome nostalgia boost, thank you.
Extreme g3 for the GameCube was so good. One of my favourite racing games. Super tight level design. Banger soundtrack. And driving just feels so fluid.
Your videos are a bright spot in my weeks. This video was a particular blast of nostalgia as I remember getting it as a block bluster rental once and could never remember the name.
Surpised nobody has mentioned since this video this game got added to Nintendo Switch Online's expansion pack thanks to a company named Throwback Entertainment.
17:25 I remember back in the day one of the gaming mags (might've been EGM or Game Informer) described that cheat code as how the game would look if it was ported to PlayStation.
Thanks for the vid :) I watched the custom robo vods, was a nice game and thab's voice acting really complements it And having a fan translation was huge
I think the first time on youtube i dont skip the ad. Its crazy to think its unbelievable to see an ad thats actually logical for the content and not insulting my intelligence 😂
the 'fergus' code references Fergus McGovern, the founder of Probe Entertainment, who developed this game. the code was originally on the genesis version of Mortal Kombat II, which they helped port
I really like this project, your style and this whole project. There are loads of N64 nostalgia channels out there, but most of them ignore the deeper cuts/rarer games (such as this one) which is great for me; I owned around 70-80 N64 games, and some of my fondest memories are with these so called "B tier" games
The sequel was my jam as a kid. More a cross between Mario kart and SW episode 1 racer. Breaking the sound barrier was a surprise experience. A collection from what I called "mom saw it on sale at blockbuster". And this was one that ended up great
Good luck with Xtreme-G 2 them. On the highest difficulty it's pretty hard. The game is extremely good, but it lags sooooo much. The soundtrack is also amazing, I personally prefer the 2. I always wanted a remake of those two games. They have so much potential. Although there is a third one for the cube and did not work. xD Love the project, beast! Keep the excellent work!
Man this game is faster paced than I remember. I grew up with this game and Re-volt, along with F-zero of course. I guess I can thank these devs for my love of tough racing games
Extreme G and the later PS2 title XGRA are awesome. XGRA has some pretty impressive sense of speed and when you go in areas with no atmosphere everything goes dead silent except the sound of your driver breathing, etc
Cool to see so many people remember this one. I too played many hours and used to CRUSH my nephews who weren't really old enough to be good at games yet. 😂
Absolute blast this game, but i definitely understand the frustration.. It's also often too fast to be playable while boosting, in the Gamecube version the tracks are much more ' elongated ' which supported the insane speeds alot more. But the N64 just wasn't capable of stuff like that, still a blast though!
Love this series. Always hyped when I see a new video drop. Even better when it's a game I played as a kid. I haven't thought about this game in years, but I have fond memories playing it.
For almost 25 years I've been trying to remember this game I've had this as a 5-7 year old and me and my friends would always play 4 player and that was the first time it ever happened in my life...thank you thab love you so much ❤️
If you enjoyed this you might enjoy Rollcage Stage 2 (not an N64 game but I’m here anyway) It’s got all the chaos and nonsense and it even lets your car drive when flipped upside down. It’s very punishing about hitting walls wrong but the control I’d say is a lot more precise so it works
One of my favorite games :) imagine this and the sequel got remade, with upgraded visuals, oh how I wish there was another racing game like this. Wait til you play the sequel "XG2" you break the goddamn sound barrier in it, sound/music become muffled too :0 I've never seen that in any racing game.
Had this as a kid. Mastered it to the point i didn't hit a single wall in a race. Thats a feeling hard to recreate. This game, with blastcorps has a special place in my heart.
Is there going to be another video on Tuesday? I think that’s what you meant in your community post and that the following week it will be back to one, but I’m not sure. You’re doing a great job, these all have a very consistent quality to them, which is amazing since the games themselves vary tremendously.
Hey Thab, what type of screen or monitor are you playing these all on? It's not a CRT, and the N64's graphics are very hard to translate to HDMI for modern TV screens, so I'm assuming its emulated on a computer monitor? You're not using original hardware right? If you are, what upscaler or HDMI mod do you use?
It's sad that this game never had a proper franchise till these days. The concept, although not new at all, obviously, was really well executed. Maybe someone could make a BallisticNG mode remaking this game.
Owned these games and eventually 1 & 2 back in the day and eventually got vooe enoough to barely ever smack the walls on the hardest setting I loved this game the music, the tracks and the finally difficulty when all the PCs are cut throat is insane
I'd say the real challenge is beating this game on extreme, getting all the extra points for the fastest lap on every race while palying with Jolt. Man, that bike SUCKS! It got decent handling, but that's all it got... Maybe the weapon. Excel is far better than pulse or laser (and that's why I think Roach is better than Neon). The soundtrack is top notch. Probably one of my favorites in every game I've played.
Had this as a kid good time, had no idea there was lore for this game. Im sure when you go fast enough to break the sound barrier game goes all quiet, thought that was so cool
The "difficulty" ratings are all messed up since you play some games on their hardest modes and most on one of their easiest. If you played any of the madden games on all-madden difficulty, you'd rate those games as 9/10 for difficulty.
Love the videos! But I wish you would play the in-game sound in the background and/or play clips with full sound every now and then so we can really feel and understand the game better. You usually only have a couple clips in each vid, this one had a bit more.

i absolutely loved this game when i was growing up.
Looks like a zombie decent game. Is $29.99 the sales price? That's what it's listed on Steam.

1:05 Hearing that "love letter" games are now being made for the 7th generation era made me instantly turn into a skeleton and die of old age.
did you die after you turned into a skeleton?
30 years ago is 1990 not 1960

Yeah, this is one of those games I have great memories of. The sense of speed, especially at the time, felt pretty unrivalled. It was absolutely crazy. Fully agree about the soundtrack, too. So many bangers.
Come for the beast. Stay for the marbles.
It’s also worth mentioning if your shield is empty, the walls immediately drop your speed to nearly zero, as do all damage sources.
"maybe even the best soundtrack on the 64" yea man this games soundtrack was actually insanely cutting edge, Goa trance had just started solidifying as a genre around 95 and this games music is really ahead of where the genre was at the time. Bomberman Hero + this
One of the best soundtrack in history of gaming
man the lore to this game actually goes pretty hard.

I love how the marble race in the end makes it exciting to see what the next game will be!
I was so hyped for Rainbow Six Siege when it was leading the race, I play the current version on PS5

this game is in my top 5 n64 games (f-zero x, goldeneye, zelda oot, perfect dark, xtreme g)
PS: the emp reverse your stearing, but you can stear.
PPS: "uglymode" was a mockery of wipeout on the ps1 from the developers ;)
You can boost so fast in this game that the screen inverts. It's amazing.

The ‘roller’ cheat basically turns this game into a new version of the marble race haha

"Roller" turns this game into a marble race.
Love this game as a kid and never heard anything about it for like over 20 years. What a nostalgia hit.
Extreme G is goated and the soundtrack slaps ridiculously hard. Been waiting for this one!
been waiting for this one since the series started! all that's left to relive my childhood are Aerofighters Assault, Perfect Dark and SF Rush 2049

You can actually r1 to slide so you can make turns at high speeds. And these bikes are remote controlled while the sequel has drivers.
I love seeing the soundtrack of this game getting the recognition it deserves. It slaps so hard
"That was quick"
That's the XG series in a nutshell!
"There's nothing I could do" should be made into a shirt and capture your most important deaths as people could relate to it (on more popular games)

One of my top ten N64 games ever! This game is awesome!
Sadly I had F-zero x and Mario Kart and Diddy Kong Racing. I did not have much more room for another racer !
You should see if you can't find a way to try this one. The sense of speed is kinda similar to pod racer
There's dozens of racing games on the 64, you had plenty of room!
I'd say the real challenge is beating this game on extreme, getting all the extra points for the fastest lap on every race while palying with Jolt. Man, that bike SUCKS! The soundtrack is top notch. Probably one of my favorites in every game I've played.
While I'm a bigger fan of the WipEout series, I still love this game.
And yeah, the soundtrack is top-tier for sure.
I wouldn't say the games are randomly selected anymore. They battle it out amongst each other. Only the strong get played.

I rented this game so much as a kid my parents bought me a copy. One of my favorite 64 games.
So glad Custom Robo won, know nothing about the series other than Smash Bros references so looking forward to your next video.
It's a great little series, exactly as charming as you'd expect. Really hope _Arena_ gets ported onto the Switch.
YES! Been waiting for Custom Robo!
and yes, the marbles edition to the videos is revolutionary.. I'm all for it
Love the videos! But I wish you would play the in-game sound in the background and/or play clips with full sound every now and then so we can really feel and understand the game better. You usually only have a couple clips in each vid, this one had a bit more.
I used to spend HOURS playing this game. That soundtrack is burned into my brain forever
Are you playing on the original hardware??
yes
I would have just numbered the marbles. Can get the fun race, and still get the "Number xx!! What's that!?" meme outta the change.
The battle mode is honestly so much fun. You need to get some friends to split screen with you to try it out
The EMP wave thing, you want to slow down and hug the walls when you hear it coming.
Oh dang... Can't wait for Custom Robo!
Closest thing to a boulder racing game that I know is the "Rock of Ages" franchise. Look it up, it's very creative.
After watching your vods for these, I feel so much more validated for getting frustrated with games 😂
