Atwood RV water heater circuit board troubleshooting and replacement

- The propane side of our water heater stopped working in our RV. After some troubleshooting it was determined the circuit board was faulty. Some online research showed this model was known for circuit board failure, we decided to upgrade it to the dinosaur electronics board. This repair took less than 10 minutes and fixed the propane issue with our water heater.
There should be a class action lawsuit against Atwood for these known defective circuit boards. They know but won't issue a recall or reimbursement.
Thank You!! This was exactly my issue. Local family owned rv shop had the dinosaur in stock.
Glad it fixed your problem. I couldn't find this part locally at the time. It's good to know some places are stocking it now.
I just ordered the dinosaur control board for mine. Gotta have it to make waterheater work right
Thanx Brother.. I don't have the schematics so was glad you identified some of the wires...
I hope it helps you to get your hot water going.
Hi, best video we’ve seen to help us. Our electric side is not working our gas runs like a charm. Replaced that 2 amp breaker & that clear fuse & still not running. He checked the igniter and it had 10 ohms. Thoughts?
If you have power, you could have a bad temperature switch or the heating element. You can ohm the switch to see if it's closed. Ohm the element, if it's reading no ohms it's bad.
Thank you! You sound just like woody harrelson lol
Thanks for posting, I thought for sure my switch inside the Rv was the problem but checked out ok. I will check Cb. My Lp works fine, it my electric. It will not shut down without turning off at the CB. Weird problem to have bought new thermostat still doing it.
I would suspect the circuit board is your problem. The after market ones are much more robust compaired to factory. Good luck with your repair!
My 2014 GC6AA-10E water heater currently has a similar problem. Heats up on gas or electric, gets to temp, shuts off, wont turn back on unless I turn off the gas/electric water heater switches in the camper. This apparently resets the circuit temporarily until it repeats the next time. Only gets annoying when a lot of hot water needed. For good measure, I'm replacing the thermostat/ECO and circuit board (aftermarket, of course- much better quality per numerous other campers).
How does the wire harness unplug, just evenly pull? Do you have to pull top and bottom at the same time or can pull one section at a time?
If needing to change the brown wire, how do you release it from its spot on the harness? I know it’s self locking just by pushing in, but how do you pull out the old burnt brown wire?
If I remember correctly the main wire plug has a clip you squeeze. It's been a few years since this video. We sold this trailer a few years ago, our current one has a different style of heater otherwise I'd go look.
It would of been nice to have a web site and part number of the circuit board.

So not sure how you were troubleshooting the circuit board. Was it by testing all the wiring for continuity that led you to determine it was the board?
It's been awhile since this video. I believe I checked voltage outputs as well. If all the wiring and components are good then the circuit board is the only thing left that could be bad.
I have a problem with my water heater that does not turn on, the two green wires of the harness that is connected to the pc are burned, I have replaced the harness 2 times and the same thing happens, do you think the problem is the pc?
The green wire is the ground circuit. Typically a burnt wire is caused by a loose connection, this results in higher resistance and heat buildup at the weakest point of contact. You may need to replace the board, it possibly has internal damage at this point. Clean all the ground connections thoroughly. If one is corroded and creating high resistance to ground it may burn out your new circuit board.
@@southeasternrvlivingandout4539 Thank you very much for the advice, I will check all the wiring before mounting a new board
I was curious l thought you said you hook up the wire harness on pin board sticking out it look like it “ they won’t stay on l could not see how you hook up your harness you put the cover so l put mine on the side of ribbon side. Please respond
The wire harness should just plug into the circuit board. Then you install the plastic cover.
How much was the daiosor board
It was $121 dollars on Amazon.
Mine will not work on propane or electric right now little red light comes on saying fault
Hello my water heater works well but do not re start automatic. The water heater start heat the water up. After use the hot water the temperatur fall down. The water heater not start automatic agean.
Do you have this problem with both electric and propane? If it's just one or the other you possibly have a bad temperature switch. Also if it's cold weather you may need to run electric and propane at the same time so you don't run out of hot water faster than it can heat back up.
Mine works fine on propane, but will not work on electric, replaced the element with no change, no lights on the circuit board are on.
I would suspect you have a bad circuit board. It seems to be common for them to quit working on just one function, and still work on the other. The factory circuit board had no lights, the aftermarket board comes with lights.
@@southeasternrvlivingandout4539 the one in it has 2 lights below the fuse.
@@dancarlin5434 I would Google your specific model of water heater and see if you can find a wiring schematic. It could possibly be a bad on/off switch inside the RV. Check the beaker also, I've seen them fail internally where power was not supplied even when it was in the on position.
@@southeasternrvlivingandout4539 thier are 8 different ones for this model (seems thier are numerous sub models)
@@dancarlin5434 hey Dan did you ever figure out what was wrong with yours, I'm having the same issue now and can not figure it out. I'm thinking possible heating element failure but want to be sure before I tackle the project.
