Wow! Big thanks Dave, you've re-kindled my interest and faith in the trusty Guv'nor 2 plus pedal. I always suspected that it was a good pedal but now know that's it's actually a superb pedal, probably the best buy in gear I ever made. No way are you videos boring one little bit, I love your enthusiasm, it truly inspires me. It has to be said you are a fantastic guitarist too, don't let the brilliant Guv'nor 2 take all the credit, you are an ideal pairing. Best demo I've watched in years and will watch again and again. Best wishes.
I'm a long haired 14 year old guitar player, been playing like two years.mostley metal,Pantera lamb of god but lately been trying to master some Stevie ray...you are awesome to watch and listen to!!! Going to have my dad pick up the guv'nor pedal..been using a RAT boosted with a tubescreamer through a fender 100 watt solid state on clean channel.
You are a privilege to watch and listen to my friend. You are an inspiration to play the guitar, not only with your skill, but your enthusiasm. Thank you.
Just picked up one of these used but as New Condition for $70- Australian Dollars(so about 1 pound 50). Thanks so much for the comprehensive Demo. Such an awesome Pedal, WOW.
Hey Dave, i don't comment much but i want to let you know i have really been enjoying videos! you're the man! I value your opinion and take on thing's. a side bonus apart from the entertainment is that your videos are really helping me make progress with my tone and skills thanks!
Dave, The number reason I watch your video's you Keep things Simple and easy to understand.. I just recently acquired a Marshall Origin 50 Quarter Stack That I have falling in love with reminds of the 1987 Head I had Clean Loud and Loves Pedals especially Marshall one's and will be adding this one soon
Brilliant, looking for a review on this pedal and who pops up, my favourite youtuber/slash guitarist, the Gravy one. I bought the Jack hammer yesterday because of you and now I'm going to be getting the Guvnor 😎😎😎😎
Dave, it is amazing video. I just got another Guvnor 2 pedal I bought three days ago... it is my third pedal I buy...it is just amazing... thnkx for your talent to show us...
This is a great demo - you're a good guitar player!! This is JCM800 80's Blackmore, Gary Moore, Def Lep ... et al. I'm gonna get one!!!!!!! All you need is a tube screamer and you're all the way there - A DS1 Distortion is going to get you heavy rock a la early to mid 80's British hard rock/metal. This basically changes every amp into a Marshall JCM - can't go wrong - the 38minute bit was almost Peter Green perfectly. I'm really going to get one right now!!!!!
Just got this today, a little early birthday present to myself. You're right, it does everything I need and is so awesome. Totally "Marshallizes" my Kat. Thanks for the recommendation, I really like it .... ( and I paid hardly anything for it used)
MrHinkey cool, would do as a backup, have yet to connect to tone studio though, with the computers/ connections I have, I can’t see to get there fro here yet
I use the Bluesbreaker 2 myself, it's good and it isn't a Bankbreaker like a lot of overdrive/distortion pedals are. Marshall pedals are well underrated, I bought a brand new Edward the compressor for £25, plus a couple of modulation pedals, a Regenerator and Vibratrem which cover all my modulation needs, which aren't all that often.....I got those 2nd hand for under £25 each. Can't really go wrong with Marshall pedals, think I'll keep an eye out for a Guv'nor to add to the collection now 👍
Same here. Started with an Edward compressor when someone was selling one cheap (already had a Boss CS-3) and was really impressed. Then got the Echohead delay, and recently the Regenerator. All very good and I can't understand why they are so cheap.
What a tragedy his murder was. I personally was never into his music, but that's not the point. Guy was a brilliant player, just trying to entertain people and make a living. I used to laugh because when he initially started out he called himself Dirtbag Darrell, then changed to Dimebag. Just a shame..
Today I bought this pedal accidentally, I knew almost nothing about it - it was love at first sight, and now , coming back home , I saw your video and I knew from your enthusiasm that I was right ...
15:58 ...rock meets happy cabaret style face? It was refreshingly cool :) 30:36 ...one word describes those moments: "YEEEAAAH!!!" Awesome Highway Star energy Dave!
Just found one of these on sale, so I'm currently umming and arring over whether to buy. It certainly won't break the bank. Oh and I've started experimenting with turning amp tones all the way down and upping the presence, which I think is something you've said you like to do. I'm getting some interesting results so far!
Good morning, Good day, and Good evening to you too Mr Simpson, I have to tell you I think your a nutter, but your my new favorite nutter and I subscribed 3 days ago. I first became aware of your channel about a year ago or so when you posted the infamous "Why I think Solid State amps are better than Tube amps" or something like that. I watched for 5 min then went elsewhere, knowing that you were incorrect. However, I accidentally hit one of your video's the other day, and your playing a Strat thru a Marshall SuperBass.. the same type and year as mine! I was glad to see you heard the light!!! I then began watching all your prior postings, and now I'm a fan!! Crazy right... I even watched the 1st video, when even you were nervous with playing whilst being recorded. Anyway, You have a certain something that comes through in your playing that is very infectious...... makes others want to play too.. It's great, don't ever change! Oh, and I got a solid state amp, it came with a Bassman on a trade I did (it's a vintage Standel Studio XII) and it sounds pretty darn good... Take care, Tom from the States BTW, I had the original Marshall Guv'nor pedal, and I hated it.. I thought it was scrap. This new one sounds much different...
You seem to get some good sounds out of it (but then you seem to get good sounds out of anything). I have had an original Guv'nor for years and it is awsome at bedroom levels, proper stack-in-a-box. After watching this the first time, I managed to get a Guv2 on fleabay for cheap. Have to say in my set up (Laney LC15 clean x2) it sounds muddier, fizzier, darker and a bit nasal. I've fiddled with the controls to try and emulate the Mark 1's clarity to no avail. I honestly think you should get hold of a Mark 1 to try it, I think you'll be impressed. I'm going to get this Guv2 modded (the mods are well known), because the pedal itself, construction wise, is far superior to the original (and most other pedals of any make), and a lot smaller on the board. Cheers!
Dave just got my hands on a DS-2......looks like its never been used, and GOD WHAT AN AWESOME PEDAL.......just spending time getting that John tone....really works well with the Fender Bassbreaker.....gonna have to feed my amp lots of chillies ;)
Awesomme video dave! watched it many times as this is my favourite pedal as well, ive got bought many pedals but come back to this one! have you tried stacking any other pedals with this cheers?
The Magnus Pike of guitar UA-cam 👏🏻😃👌🏼 I’ve always been a bad monkey man, but you can certainly get lots of great sounds from the Marshall. Great demo mate, I enjoyed watching and listening 👍🏼
Why havent i seen this before 😂 its a awesome pedal. I use it with gain halfway up, bass off, deep, middle and treble all the way up. To get a fat Gary Moore lead tone with the neck pickup on my Les Paul.
Had this pedal for years, love it. Just bought a Vintage v6 Thomas Blug signature £180 on eBay. Have you tried them ? Nice guitar. Great playing as always
Hi Dave. Two things (especially for me at this time of year): firstly, please do a sound like Big Country/Stuart Adamson/Bruce Watson; and second, I’m moving from a multi-fx pedal thing (Boss ME-50) to individual pedals, but wonder whether the GV2 would fill the gap that all the distortions on the 50 cover, or whether to keep the 50 on the board for TS9 & Distortion effects, Harmoniser & Leslie effects, and Delays. I pretty much aspire to your styles of playing (Greeny, Clapton, JF, Mayer, SRV, Jimi, Knopfler, etc), with a huge chunk of Stuart Adamson thrown in, and a bit of Small Faces/Faces/Who/early Texas/Teenage Fanclub/Paul Weller for lighter moods, lol...
I'll see what can do and as for switching to single pedals. If your happy with your boss Multi FX then stay with it. If it sounds the way you like it don't change it. The Guv'nor can cover lots of ground gain wise but if your happy don't change anything. : )
Dave? Do you remember a Marshall pedal that was in a case like an ADA flanger, and it had a cord that plugged in the wall.had Marshall knobs, and I think a clean / gain switch.
Love the detail you give in your commentary and your chops are wonderful. I've seen your other videos about the Jackhammer and the Boss Blues Driver, great videos as well. Have you ever done a review of the Boss Power Stack. Do you have an opinion of that pedal?
Great playing! I love hearing you cut loose and get lost in what your playing. Can you tell Santa to bring me one those pedals for Christmas? I already have a great Strat!
So cool to see how much of a buzz that pedal gives you. Are you going to come an gig in wales soon? (where I live, and yes its a selfish request, but your a throw back.Willing to take risks and play from the heart.not like some run of the mill pub band playing mustang sally every night)..... to be honest that wasnt a question.....but a polite request (with mafia connections obviously ).....like I've said before your enthusiasm breeds into others (deff me) and I now, will play long into the night. :) Dont be put off by the Italians who bungle you and your gear into the back of a van..... and drive to north wales....they mean no harm!!!!!
Dave mate, I so understand the situation...what with pubs closing down all over the country.....shitty x factor being forced on the nation! I dont know why there hasent been a new big rock band in the 2000's....we need a band to come along and remind people how good rock music is. But please dont give up......things didnt start well for SRV or Hendrix but they came through.Maybe the internet now is the only way....but if thats true...things are in bad shape.I know you'll never lose the love of playing.......You might be going through a rough time and I can relate..and the music industry is fucked up......wouldnt it be sad if Simon Cowel had and accident......Stay strong mate :)
As a brand new noob to guitar back in 2004 I can tell you I wasn't able to dial in a good sound at all! I gave it away in frustration. Now, 17 years later I have it back on my board and I know it was me, not the pedal. It sounds awesome now I know how to dial it in
Great demo again Thijs, When you said It went quacky I could hear Peter Green in an instant. So if you set it up for your crunch rhythm sound what would you use to stack to push it for leads? Something thats a bit more smooth/liquid on the top end?
thank you for this , i think , it s exactely what i need !!! it s not like a marshall amp , but ... not the same price too ... And i know , it s sound cool because it s in your hands ... it will be very different in mine :-)
Dave-have you checked out the Marshall Codes, yet? I have the 100 watt combo on its way to my house after playing the 50 watt at a local shop. I think it sounds fantastic and would love to see you put the 100 watt head to the test and hear your thoughts on it. Anyway, keep shredding and thank you for the great vids!
I haven't no. REALLY REALLY want the head but can't afford it now and they've put the price of it up. Gits. Hahaha. Hopefully one day i'll get my grubby little paws on it. Thank you very much for watching. : )
Thanks For the great demo. Just so your aware in tour last 2 videos a out halfway through your sound seems to be slightly out of sink with the video. Beginnings are fine then it drifts. If Im wrong Im sure someone will correct me..... :-)
hi dave so let me ask u something when u are gonna make a video about the marshall jackhammer just like this one on guv'nor 2? i buy a jackhammer and i realy want your 2 cents about it thanks man u help me quite a lot u are awsome
Dave, which overdrive would be better for getting close (not the very same but that kind of darker tone) to John's tone? I have a BOSS OS2 for the moment.
i bet your neighbours love you..im debating a 20w jcm 800 marshall and im worried it will piss my neighbours off even in 5w mode..i maybe worrying over nothing going by your setups
Does it work as an end of chain pedal, like the golden plexi? Not had a chance to watch this yet so not sure if you've covered that (eating tea first and I want to beat the wave of questions and comments!).
The best review of the Marshall GV-2 Plus on youtube. Period.
Wow! Big thanks Dave, you've re-kindled my interest and faith in the trusty Guv'nor 2 plus pedal. I heard nothing but bad reviews -- or maybe not bad, but more "meh, the old ones better" reviews -- and you make this thing sound killer. Good job.
Thank you very much indeed. : )
The BEST thing about that pedal is the way it inspires your playing. Best demo eva
I felt in love with that pedal while’ve watched this demo
Dave, The number reason I watch your video's you Keep things Simple and easy to understand.. Epic video, watched manny times.. bought two of these pedals since I watched this video few years back.. Love you videos, love you energy and vibe!
I have one of these, fantastic pedals
Brilliant, looking for a review on this pedal and who pops up, my favourite youtuber/slash guitarist, the Gravy one. I bought the Jack hammer yesterday because of you and now I'm going to be getting the Guvnor 😎😎😎😎
Maybe the best review of the Guv'nor out there. The sounds you got from it, man!
Thank you very much indeed. : )
Close your eyes and it's SRV. man, you rock!!! 🇬🇧✌🏻️🔥
Thank you very much. : )
Dave, don't normally comment but feel compelled to do so this evening. You really can play the fuck out of a guitar. Really you can.
Thank you very much. :)
He's a monster talent. Always an inspiration here.
Dave, it is amazing video. I just got another Guvnor 2 pedal I bought three days ago... it is my third pedal I buy...it is just amazing... thnkx for your talent to show us...

The katana has a guvnor setting in it
MrHinkey cool, would do as a backup, have yet to connect to tone studio though, with the computers/ connections I have, I can’t see to get there fro here yet
I just picked up this pedal for £20...what a bargain to get classic marshall sounds!!! Take my advice and buy one
Just took this off my pedal board having bought the OCD, but after watching this I'm tempted to put it back on. 😎 Great playing!
Thank you very much. : )
What did you end up doing?
TRY THE GV2 INTO THE OCD, THATS MY SOUND, OCD ACTS AS AN ATTENUATOR
Great playing on the intro! Love the vocal "breath" quality! Tone is stellar too
Thank you very much. : )
Brilliant session Dave, awesome pedal and playing.👍
Thanks you very much. : )
The way you say guvnor lol so perfect
Finally the gov 2 review that goes with my experience
thnx for the review, I've just ordered one. I think it has the sound I was searching for
Thank you for watching and I hope it works for you. : )
I use the Bluesbreaker 2 myself, it's good and it isn't a Bankbreaker like a lot of overdrive/distortion pedals are.

Haha, one of my fav pedal videos ever. Dave loves this pedal and he shows it 💚💛❤💗
Sick SRV style licks. I’m gonna have to use the guvnor on the blues rock stuff for sure 🎉
This may be a day late and a dime short, Dave you are a master for sure.
That octave intro !! you are fcking amazing dave . getting better and better
Thank you very much. : )
Remember Dime Today People. Aug 20, 1966 - Dec 08, 2004 .
Remember Mr. Lennon, also.
one of the best to ever do it.
What a tragedy his murder was. I personally was never into his music, but that's not the point. Guy was a brilliant player, just trying to entertain people and make a living. I used to laugh because when he initially started out he called himself Dirtbag Darrell, then changed to Dimebag. Just a shame..
That's the best tribute to Dimes talent right there, Is that it escaped the genre to reach the masses.
Thanks Dave,,,,after hearing you.I just had to have one....its on its way!
Thank you very much and have fun. : )
Today I bought this pedal accidentally, I knew almost nothing about it - it was love at first sight, and now , coming back home , I saw your video and I knew from your enthusiasm that I was right ...
Have fun. : )
@@thedavesimpson thank you Dave, be blessed !
Sir your such an excellent guitarist!!! GOD BLESS!!!
What a bootiful tone!
Thank you. : )
15:58 ...rock meets happy cabaret style face? It was refreshingly cool :)
30:36 ...one word describes those moments: "YEEEAAAH!!!" Awesome Highway Star energy Dave!
Thank you very much. : )
your skills Dave are from another dimension... I am speechless. Wish I saw you play with Nick Weir who is also great player and froosh fanatic :)
Thank you very much. : )
I’m speakin for m’self here, but this is a cool college course. And fully worth the tuition. Which is simply the desire to learn.
Just found one of these on sale, so I'm currently umming and arring over whether to buy. It certainly won't break the bank. Oh and I've started experimenting with turning amp tones all the way down and upping the presence, which I think is something you've said you like to do. I'm getting some interesting results so far!

Instantáneamente me suscribí al escuchar cómo tocas compañero. Increíble. // Instantly subscribed after hearing you play. Amazing.

Great pedal 😎 if you got your hands on another one would you consider doing the mod that I have seen on many a forum, would love to see you a-b them 🤔
www.google.com/search?tbm=vid&sxsrf=ALeKk01kIi9I-SXGzMFm7Mp0QodP4KtwMQ:1603835506436&q=marshall+guv%27nor+2+mods&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwidh47t4NXsAhXZVRUIHTJPDcMQ8ccDKAR6BAgXEBY&cshid=1603837753700&biw=360&bih=664#
I got one, really it's basically an amp-in-a-box.
just set up my guv'nor with your settings.... KILLER SOUND!!! If I send you mine, could I get a custom sharpie paint job too !? :D
Love it Dave your brilliant ❤️
AWESOME. Have fun. : )
Awesomme video dave! watched it many times as this is my favourite pedal as well, ive got bought many pedals but come back to this one! have you tried stacking any other pedals with this cheers?
The Magnus Pike of guitar UA-cam 👏🏻😃👌🏼
I’ve always been a bad monkey man, but you can certainly get lots of great sounds from the Marshall.
Great demo mate, I enjoyed watching and listening 👍🏼
Thank you very much. : )
Just bought one because of this
Why havent i seen this before 😂 its a awesome pedal.
Great playing as always
gaznmaggie I want to buy this guitar or the Squier CV 50s Strat. Can‘t decide haha
Thank you very much and i haven't tried that guitar yet but i would like to. : )
I pretty much aspire to your styles of playing (Greeny, Clapton, JF, Mayer, SRV, Jimi, Knopfler, etc), with a huge chunk of Stuart Adamson thrown in, and a bit of Small Faces/Faces/Who/early Texas/Teenage Fanclub/Paul Weller for lighter moods, lol...

the great player, nice pedal)!!!! i have guvnor and jackhammer
Great playing again dave / I'm currently using a rat and a tone city plexi
Im copying you 😆 got the cr120 and just picked up the govenor on the weekend. Using it with a ts9 but don't really like how the ta9 colours the tone.
Love the Highway Star part :)...
Dave? Do you remember a Marshall pedal that was in a case like an ADA flanger, and it had a cord that plugged in the wall.had Marshall knobs, and I think a clean / gain switch.
I don't know but for some reason it does ring a bell.
Love the detail you give in your commentary and your chops are wonderful. I've seen your other videos about the Jackhammer and the Boss Blues Driver, great videos as well. Have you ever done a review of the Boss Power Stack. Do you have an opinion of that pedal?
Thank you very much. I haven't tried that pedal so i can't comment sorry. :)
Still the best budget overdrive!
Great playing! I love hearing you cut loose and get lost in what your playing. Can you tell Santa to bring me one those pedals for Christmas? I already have a great Strat!
Thank you very much and i'll have a chat with him. :)
Have you tried one of the Golden Brownie pedals? Supposed to be the "brown sound" Marshall. You will tell us straight out if you like it or it sucks!
Dude! You're a monster!! You can play then all can't you?
Great video man! Please do a video of how you strated playing( guitar , amp etc) even throw the first songs you learnt haha ;)
Thank you very much and i have done a few vids on that subject on my channel. :)
So cool to see how much of a buzz that pedal gives you. Are you going to come an gig in wales soon? I love mine. It isn't everything but if you can't dial in a good sound you aren't trying.
As a brand new noob to guitar back in 2004 I can tell you I wasn't able to dial in a good sound at all! I gave it away in frustration. Now, 17 years later I have it back on my board and I know it was me, not the pedal. It sounds awesome now I know how to dial it in

I would use a marshall Bluesbreaker pedal. The cheap silver boxed one. That pedal is very smooth. : )
What’s the riff at 38:06?
thank you for this ,
i think , it s exactely what i need !!!
it s not like a marshall amp , but ... not the same price too ...
And i know , it s sound cool because it s in your hands ... it will be very different in mine :-)
Thank you for watching and i'm sure you could make it sound great. : )
Dave-have you checked out the Marshall Codes, yet? I have the 100 watt combo on its way to my house after playing the 50 watt at a local shop. Is that a Mussum picture above the orange amp? I love him too!
Its not no.
Thanks For the great demo.
Just so your aware in tour last 2 videos a out halfway through your sound seems to be slightly out of sink with the video. Beginnings are fine then it drifts. If Im wrong Im sure someone will correct me..... :-)
Thanks very much indeed and i'll look into that. :)
hi dave so let me ask u something
when u are gonna make a video about the marshall jackhammer just like this one on guv'nor 2?
i buy a jackhammer and i realy want your 2 cents about it
thanks man u help me quite a lot u are awsome
Hopefully next week. Fingers crossed. Thank you very much. : )
Hey dude, what do you think about the guv´nor mk1? nice vids by the way, just discovered you!!! greets from good ol´germany....
The MK1 is a great great pedal but i prefer this one. Thank you very much indeed for watching. Happy you like the vids. : )
The algorithm knows 🤟🤟🤟🤟
What a player 🎸😍🤘🏻🇬🇧
Thank you. : )
Great review.
Dave, which overdrive would be better for getting close (not the very same but that kind of darker tone) to John's tone? I have a BOSS OS2 for the moment.
The tone city golden plexi and mar hall jackhammer are my favourites for that sound. : )
i bet your neighbours love you..im debating a 20w jcm 800 marshall and im worried it will piss my neighbours off even in 5w mode..i maybe worrying over nothing going by your setups
Do you have any suggestion that can imitate the sound of Marshall guv’nor??? This pedal is quite rare and I can’t find one to my country ...
Boss DS1 will get you close if you run the tone down low. Tone city golden plexi also. :)
Great demo Dave! I love your enthusiasm! I have this pedal and like it, my only concern is the background noise, too much in my opinion...
Does it work as an end of chain pedal, like the golden plexi? Not had a chance to watch this yet so not sure if you've covered that (eating tea first and I want to beat the wave of questions and comments!).
It does indeed. : )
Dave Simpson which would work better though, the jackhammer or the guvnor?
it is said that the marshal governor is a widely copied/ cloned pedal
А что насчёт Boss sd1??? Выбираю.....
Have you tried to danelectro daddy-o overdrive? They say its a good clone but Idk?
Ive never tried it so ive no clue.
Dave, how does this pedal compare with the original black box guvnors ?
I prefer this one personally. :)
@@thedavesimpson interesting
Love it !!
Thank you. : )
Have you tried using it through the FX loop to use it as a preamp?
I haven't no.
Dave, I already have a DS2 and the Jackhammer, is the Guv'nor really worth buying? Thanks!
Indeed it is. I love it. I would say however that you do want to try before you buy. : )
Hi Dave, would this be any good for Clapton tones?
Yep.
How would you compare this one to Xotic SL Drive or any other plexi style drive? Say somebody is thinking of getting one, thanks mate
I've never tried the sl so I can't say. Sorry.
@@thedavesimpson It's cool man, thank you
O verdadeiro careca cabeludo kkk ótimo som!
VIANA 85 kkkkkkkk
Have you tried the reissue
Yep.
I've just ordered one of these! hoping it will sound ok through my Fender champion 100. It will right? :)
Oh yes. :) Just be weary of the treble dial.
Dave Simpson Now i can’t wait to hear it. Cheers Dave
Love the playing Dave. The pedal sounds similar to a blues driver pedal to me
Thank you very much indeed. : )
Slovy* do you think Marshall blues driver can sound like this guv’nor???? I can’t find Marshall guv’nor to any market herein my country
Really nice firend. Is it modded or as fsctory? Thanks!
Thank you very much and its factory. :)
@@thedavesimpson you must make a quick demo together with katana 50. How does it sound both together?
What does he play at around 39:30?
Gary Moore - The Loner. : )
is this pedal good for slash tone?
It is indeed. : )
Dave Simpson thanks man
