A lot of fans were angry back then because Carl was supposed to be the future of the show, every single thing that Rick's done to this point was for Carl. To just kill him off like that was nothing short of taking the piss to the show's entire integrity.
But I honestly think Carl’s death was somewhat powerful for the plot because it created that amazing moment between Rick and Negan first on the Walkie Talkie (radio) and basically leds to the finale with Rick sparing Negan‘s life because that’s what Carl wanted, that’s what he wanted his father to realize.
Without Carl’s death it wouldn’t have been as strong of an impact as it was (to me at least) and for the story
I was mostly pissed about the fact that in a massive war arc the only major character death was to a fucking walker.
@@hiymecorp.258 uh, no they didn't. Carl was still alive at the end of the comics.
@@mrsfahrenheit not really. They are ending the show because they are running out of "comic material" when the fucking show doesnt even resemble the comic. Carl dying proves the show is league's different than the comic. I mean carl grows old in the comics. He IS the future. Killing him the way they did was nonsensical as fuck. Needed way more impact other than "oops tried to save dude, got bit by a random Walker"
@@mrsfahrenheit Apparently in the comics, Morgan's death was the thing that changed Rick.
Carol, Jerry, and Rick were all driving in separate cars during the scene where Jerry got hit by the car.
Chandler Riggs father even tweeted how angry he was at the writers for giving him false hope
wow thats really wrong. carl was not one of my favorites, so i was not too sad he died, But like other characters who have died i wished i could see him more.
@@hasan_1888 They said "We really want to see you these three last years Chandler (Carl)" and after that they just said Carl would die and it was two weeks before Chandler's birthday. He just moved closer so he could record it better
amc is so cheap. its awfully convenient that chandler got fired before his 18th bday. its almost like amc knew they would have to pay him extra and just decided to kill off his character in a dumb way. chandler literally skipped a year of college and bought a house near the studio for this show so it wasnt pre planned
@@aaaaaa-gt6ib Holy...............
Welcome to the biggest mistake the show ever made
I have been binge watching this show. just watched the carl death episode. It was a bit shocking. He was not my favorite character so i wont call this biggest mistake of the show. They have been others lol.
@@hasan_1888 it's the biggest mistake of the show for us who have read the comics and knows that Carl is suppose to survive
@@davidcarty7584 I know. sad for you of-course. but for me who watched the show, i am not too sad coz the shows carl was never appealing to me. maybe its the acting or the carls story.
@@hasan_1888 I don't really like Carl but even I think his death was a top 3 mistake. It was done just for Rick's character development.
@@gloriouss6352 i dont mind more ricks character development. i think personally the actor who plays carl, i dont know i did not like him. but yes carl should not have been killed.
We were all shocked when we learned Carl was bitten so we understand your reaction.
I knew straight away. When he started writing that letter. Then I remember him fighting walkers saving sadiq.
yeee this is one of the main reasons people were pissed off about this season and why the show-runner has been changed after this season :P there was also some shitty behind the scenes stuff going on during this and poor Chandler Riggs was mistreated, sooo ye it was a bad situation...gotta be the season 8 curse :P
"Carl learned to drive from his mom." Bwahahahaha!
Jerry wasn't in the same car as Carol . 😁 they were just showing flashes of each character at that point .
Rick, Carol, and Jerry took three separate cars.
I remember when this episode happened. Leading up to this EVERYBODY was always ripping on Carl and how pathetic he was. And then, just like that Carl had apparently been every ones favorite all along.
Its because his future comic arc was so fucking good. He wouldve been absolutely amazing in season 9, 10 and eventually 11.
Exactly what I'm saying. Everyone including myself was upset to see Carl die, but he's been pretty pathetic and uninteresting for a good portion of the show, often times even making downright stupid decisions that only got the group into more trouble. Then all of a sudden he dies and now he's everybody's favorite character? The show was constantly making you WANT to like Carl, but you could never fully enjoy him at all because he's in so very few impactful scenes. That being said there were still plenty of great moments with him. I'd say my top 3 is his incredibly painful screams after being shot by Otis along with the "I saw a deer" moment, his painful yet deadpan response to having to kill his own mother, and his argument with unconscious Rick only to realize that he still needs his father after all. Chandler Riggs is a fantastic actor and he's given his best in every performance as Carl, but his character is not written well enough to merit an extreme response from me. Carl is in my opinion a Dale with some more screen time and better moments. He's not the Glenn we all pretend he is.
it was the saviors they were the ones blowing up alexandria. carol and rick and jerry were in the same car but then they got in different cars and were driving separately. rip carl
To the commenters who keep saying it, it’s not about “no one being safe” it’s about the way they handled this death. Carl’s death was poorly handled both on the show and for the actor. They told him last minute. He had just bought a house in the area and applied ONLY to local colleges. What I don’t understand is why y’all thought anyone liked it, it was a horrible episode lol. I think it’s what finally got Gimple fired (thank goodness.)
I loved the episode. The ending with Carl was just bad
He wasn't fired. He was promoted, yes the one in charge of TWDU, he just doesn't run the shows themselves
Scott gimple got a promotion. He was not fired.
Like the others said, Gimple was promoted, so that was a promotion, not a punishment. And about Carl, AMC wasn't OK with Chandler's dad doing business in Senoia on his own related to the series. They were fed up and they chose to terminate Chandler's contract. I read something like this. Not saying it was fair or what I wanted, but probably there were dirty stuff and thangs as to finish an important character.
Carl's death was brilliant. He was bitten episodes prior to the reveal, and only people who could see his reactions and pay attention to the things he was saying would've known it then when they didn't show it. One of the best written deaths on the show imo. Everyone's mad that he's dead but I'm happy that Judith essentially takes his place, (SPOILERS) because as far as the comics go, Judith is dead at this point.
I'm scared reactors would stop watching the walking dead after episodes like these. Thank you for reacting still.
Hang in there! So close to season 9 🙏🏻
The blacksmith Neil was sitting directly behind Maggie.
I wish you guys could binge more episodes right now.
Carl's death was the most stupid death decision through almost 10 seasons, no question.
Are you saying how Carl died was stupid or the decision to kill Carl was stupid?? Cause I thought Chandler wanted out of TWD, so they had no choice to but to kill him off.
@@3lement2010 Both. And supposedly Chandler was pissed when he found out he was getting killed off. Well, his real life dad was lol
@@shadowjefflander I'm watching TWD for the first time and I was starting to like Carl and I'm mad myself.
@@3lement2010 Lol, Chandler didn't quit. That choice was made by Gimple, search it.
@@Snufkinseason Thats why I said "I thought". I could have sworn I read something when this episode was released Chandler wanted out to focus on school.
I was so mad when I saw this episode. The carl thing was SOOOOO stupid to me, I'm still mad about it. I truly saw him as the future of the show.
THE ACTOR WANTED TO GO TO COLLEGE HE HAD TO BE WRITTEN OFF
@@tylorsmith7580he was blind sided with being written off
The thing that angered me the most is a lot of people were under the assumption Chandler quit the show to go to college. And Chandler was actually told by the show they wanted him for another 3 years and he would pursue college while doing to the show. He even bought a house to be close to the set so he wouldn't have to commute as far everyday. I just felt there was really no good reason to kill Carl. If people say it's because Carl's death was the catalyst for Rick to save Negan well guess what in the comics he also saves Negan but Carl doesn't die. And if they didn't think Chandler played Carl well enough they could've recasted since they did a time jump anyways (although I hate recasts). Bottom line Carl shouldn't have died and because of Carl's death the show slowly started dying too.
"Its grenade launchers, thats why it blows"
Carl 🥺😖
😭
Steve- Carl's leaving
Me-😭😭😭
Simon shot the blacksmith in the backseat
The guns they used to blow up Alexandria's houses are called; SMGs, they are able to shoot up in the air over a barricade and land in an area to explode them. That's how they blew up the houses. It wasn't Alexandria blowing their own houses up 😂
Finally this is the episode most of us were waiting patiently for you guys to watch. It took me weeks to finish the season after this episode but promise it is worth it to keep going.
RIP Carl and RIP TWD. Thanks for your review!
The show started to improve from this point though. Second half of 8 was a slight improvement. Season 9 and 10 were amazing
You both described how I felt when I could not after watching this episode. I enjoy watching your reactions, thank you and stay safe.
Ive been watching since very first episode and while they have rarely caught me by surprise this totally did. Without saying much you will see way more. Now that you caught up to this there was alotttt of shady stuff going back and fourth about his departure. One article said that he was at least signed for another 3 seasons and got told without notice that they were killing him off. There were alot of different kind of articles about this whole thing.
One of the saddest episodes ever! To see Rick realizing that there is nothing he can do and how shocked and sad he looked was quite hurtful! Well, see you...until 8/9!
One of Gimples worst decisions! Glad the show got alot better after this episode
The first half of season 8 makes season 6 and 7 look like masterpieces. It gets better afterwards ?
@@SCharlesDennicon season 9 and 10 are arguably the 2 best seasons of twd so if say it got better
Nash Scheber 8b is when things rlly start picking up
@@SCharlesDennicon 9 and 10 are run by a new showrunner, who to most is doing a phenomenal job
The saviours were using grenade lauchers to blow the buildings in Alexandria, thats why everything was blowing up
Hey guys! Yesterday was my 16th birthday and I would just like to point out how much I love your TWD reactions and how much you help me. You guys are awesome, keep it all up and I know how much of a shock Carl getting bitten is and I understand if you are frustrated because we all were at that moment. Much Love from Sweden!
Happy Birthday 🎉! (Yesterday.)
@Jonas Blom
Happy belated birthday, man.
Hi Leila.
Happy belated Birthday!
@@leila7132 thank you so much! Much love
Chandler Riggs has a Twitch channel, he's always streaming.
Scott Gimple really screwed this up. Carl in no way shape or form should have been bit. You guys are right to be angry about it. We were ALL angry about it. Hang in there. There are great moments ahead still.
I hate the way Carl goes out but I do think the next episode at least tries to add a little context to the clusterfuck of this episode
If they wanted Chandler “Carl” off the show, they could have just sent him out west or somewhere. Hell, they now have what, 3 spinoffs plus a film in development. Carl could have been apart of those episodes in the future in some way.
He found out the day of filming. Interview I saw with his father is that it was very personal.
@@spiralbones He didn't find out the day of filming. His dad said: "It was the middle of June, his 18th birthday was coming up in a couple of weeks, 5 episodes were filmed"
This is such an emotional episode. It is well worth watching again. You really do realize that you ignored some of the signs that were there about Carl. I remember wondering "why is he sweating so much?" They kept so much action going that it was a distraction from the flashbacks and focus on Carl that would have alerted us. Were it any other character we would have realized something was up. But who would have thought anything like this would happen to Carl? I thought he was the future of this show. I was so angry.
Lol it's no traffic in zombie world...thanks for the laughs on my way to work got gloves and mask on...everyone please stay safe and blessed much love from San Antonio and wash hands..wait hold up I remember this episode
I remember watching this ep the day it aired and oh my... my pc was broken so i had to use my parents and i remember their faces when i suddenly went all „oh no no no no no no no” and started crying xD it was the last ep before „mid-season break” so i remember whole internet going CRAZY. I signed all the petitions to bring Carl back after the break. And all these petitions that wanted the showrunner to be fired. I was this fan, who watched the rest of season 8 to see what they will do about it and quit. I didnt really care anymore :/
Lmfao. I remember I saw all those petitions like make Carl be fully immune from turning or cut Carl’s head off and attach it to another body specifically Siddiqs so he could repay Carl for bringing him to Alexandria and not having to scrounge for food on the road 😂😂
Literally the only characters I thought would make it to season 10 were Carl, Michonne, and Daryl. And they literally just straight up killed Carl for no reason. I don't understand it at all, and it really pissed me off. All throughout the episode I thought that Carl was going to die, and then just when I thought he would make it they did that shit.
i love walking dead universe because of it still evolve and expend unlimitelly
The saviors were blowing up the houses by launching grenades and grenade launchers over the wall.
they killed off carl because chandler riggs wanted to go to school.
It was the Savyors blowing up the houses with grenade launcher's over the fence - lacey even said "what where they shooting in there"
Carl was bitten helping Siddiqui carl said "I brought him here....Its how it happened" then shows rick the bite
I love that you kept the video going. I had the exact same feelings.
No!!!!! Why would you do that to Carl?!!
Fans all over the world were thinking that.
darth ken81 I know right! I know I was!

THey werent blowing up their own houses did u not see the savior shooting grenade launchers?
I hate how Carl died
Everyone I know that watches the show felt the way you guys did after watching this episode. A lot of people stopped watching the show because of Carl's death. The only reason my husband kept watching was because I kept watching, but he's glad he did because the show does get better again. Hang in there! There are some good episodes left in S8. With that said, I've not gotten over Carl's death, and I don't think I ever will forgive the showrunners for it.
The saviors had grenade launcher shooting in Alexandria. Simon shot Neil who was riding in the back of the truck with Maggie and jesus. Jerry was driving alone and Simon crashed into him. Carol was alread driving to the kingdom in a different car from Jerry.
Exactly
YO HELL YEAH THE WOMAN WHO WAS AFRAID OF THE TIGER IS OUT HERE THROAT PUNCHING THE ENEMY LET'S GOOOO
Basically no one got plot armor lmao
Lori told Carl he would beat that world, and he did. He didn't let the world do to him what it does to others.
This reveal of Carl being bitten was shocking - to say the least. I've commented this before, that Carl was the reason for me continuing to watch TWD after the 3rd episode of the series, and I expected him to go all the way.
That said...at this point in the show (season 8), I was too hooked into TWD universe to just stop watching because of 1 character, even if that character was Carl. Daryl is one of my most favorite characters, but if it was him that got bit here, instead of Carl, I would still watch the show, because there are others I still love. But, I remember being so pissed-off, that I considered it during the mid-season break.
Here I am, in it's season 10, and still watching.
The flaw that I see in this season & last, is that Gimple injects his personal feelings about the characters into the storyline, so that he shows exactly how he feels about particular characters/actors. The storyline/plot was good - IMO - he got the war started, and kept it moving. But, he fucked up the character's personalities/motivations so badly that I felt disconnected from them in this season. It's not good for the show when people are wondering "_so-&-so_ wouldn't do that". I liked where the show was taking us as a whole, but I didn't much like the way he treated certain characters. It was ALL about Negan at this point. Even Rick's character was f'ck'd with.
RIP Carl.
I know others have different opinions (you guys included), but that's mine. 😊🌺🏝️❤️
Idk what ur talking about. Characters change, that’s part of development. They don’t always act the same way they would seasons prior
@@Xpertfusion Yes. Of course they change, it's called "an arc". lol But, the fundamentals; their core, should never change without epiphanies or time. Neither of which any of them had. They just seem to go from one dynamic to another, with no real explanation for the change; the arc.
angie 808 but they did tho. Any examples? Without spoilers past 808 of course
@@Xpertfusion Let's see...Carl's finding it in his sweet heart to save as many people as possible from destruction (including Saviors), when up till this point he was hell-bent on killing them; Daryl being so pissed at Rick & his decisions that he would leave him on the road, by himself, to deal with traitors (the Daryl we know & love would never have done that); Rick, going back again, and again to make deals the the trash people; Jesus going from passive/agressive to just being passive; Morgan's character was just mind-blowingly fk'd up (the wishy-washy way they wrote his character is unforgivable - imo). The only characters that weren't messed with was Carol's & Maggie's (hallelujah).
I know it all has a point. Like I said...the season's story arc wasn't bad at all. I could see where it was going, but you don't change your character's core to make the story make sense. You work around the characters (who frankly carries the show), to make the plot work. Not the other way around.
@@angie-tq4ew Wonderful!!! 🥰
When Rick saw that Carl was bit he was thinking why didn't the plot armour work
The soundtrack at the end was a vibe too though in the sewers
Your reactions so match how things hit me with so many of the things...Carl! Years later I still say what you said then...why? Sigh. Just stumbled upon you reviews a few nights ago and became an instant fan. 👍🏾💯
@Nique Campbell ~ Thanks!! Glad you are enjoying our videos! ~ Lacey
Hang in there guys. It DOES get better.
The Monster known as Scott Gimpble. "Crying over you!" RiP Carl. His contract was up and he was going to college. But Chandler was going to go in Georgia to college and bought an apartment.
Everyone was pissed. Carl even in the comics was suppose to take over leadership. Rick did everything for Carl and Judith. So sad and angry but I'm a true fan so I'll stick with the show.
First of all clearly these saviors don't know who Michonne is never grab her unless you wanna lose your head hahah
Funny. If GOT just continued maybe it would’ve gotten better in Season 9🤷♂️twd managed to have the best season every with Season 9, and now S10 is almost finished so far it has been amazing
Nah haha, the fuck ups in GoT make this fuck up seem like a good decision lol
Steve's beard is GLORIOUS.
Steve looking fly as fu€k though! No disrespect meant Lacey, lol
Carl was bitten in the woods when he was helping Siddiq. Something I find brilliant about his death is the fact that they didn't reveal it like they would anyone else. The only way you would have known was by paying attention to his reactions and listening to what he was saying. In the scene he's bitten, we see a walker go for his abdomen and then this walker is off-screen. Carl was bitten off-screen, yes, but we saw the moment he was bitten. Some people knew from the moment that scene happened that he was bitten, while others had no clue. They wanted it to be vague and for it to be a guess. Fantastic writing imo. Carl is missed but I'm not even mad about his death, the show isn't called Carl, it's not called Rick, it's not called Daryl, it's called the Walking Dead. It's not about Carl, it's not about any specific character, it's about all of them. One of the BEST WRITTEN DEATHS in the entire show. Idc what anyone says.
LOTS of fans hated killing off Carl. So many people dropped the show at this point.
I haven't really been following your reactions to this season, because it's, IMO, the worst season. But there are a few episodes that I wanted to see. This is one of them
Seeing that bite on Carl just made me 😭 up again. Michonne was making shish kebabs outta that savior. He picked the wrong one to fuk with 😂 . I’m with you Lacy, Rick should have used the other end and beat the holy shit outta Negan .
For me this stunk! One of the worst decisions for me is Carl's death. I so wanted to see Carl and Judith lead
Loved the reaction as always. I'm glad I stuck with it coz it gets back to fabulous but, with you, I hated them killing Carl and was really pissed off and like you thought it just didn't live up to the show as we knew it.
I was waiting for this reaction for so long!!! Love you guys!
My journey with the TWD no one telling me things get better . No spoilers just sharing with friends maybe when you catch up look at show a a different way.
Please hold on, season 9 is so good!
Season 9 is nowhere good
I agree with you guys. It’s not my favorite season and I don’t understand why they made these choices. BUT..the show does start to improve and does get better in my opinion. Keep going guys! 👍🏻
It made no sense to anybody. I was shocked and felt really empty when I saw this episode.
Yeah Carl’s death was stupid
Season 8 is a little back-and-forth and it does have quite a few not so great episodes in it I think season 8 was the worst of all the seasons but I mean there is 10 seasons the show is an amazing show No doubt about it
This channel is the one of the very few channels who have given Carl's character the respect he derserved since the beginning... thank you for that.. i enjoyed your reactions 🙏
sins amputating hand works against bite infection, i have a theory that red hot iron should also work, u know if bite is on body, its just there is less time to do that then there is with amputation
I agree with everything you said about this episode. I didnt understand what was going on when I first watched it and tbh I'm still not sure I understand the whole thing with jerry and the cars 🤷🏼♀️
It's like you didn't understand on purpose at this point , everything you could got wrong you got it wrong , it's unbelievable
Keep your sprits up guys, Truck on through and Season 9-10 will heal your wounds😂
Stay strong guys.. season 9 and 10 are enjoyable
@13;28 Lacey perfectly sums up this season so far. "Who is Neil?" Yes, the writing this season is borderline incompetent.
I don't like how most people approach a show like this (or any show).
Ppl are always complaning about "the writers" or "how" a character dies.
I just watch the show without ever thinking about "the writers" and "the written events".
Instead I just watch and take everything in as a real story that I'm watching, and where bad or unfortunate things happen.
In this case, Carl died just like anyone can die, that's what made TWD such a great show:
nobody is immune to the dangers of this world. It's almost laughable that people "demand" immunity for characters.... lol. If you want such a guarantee, you should go watch a sitcom instead.
And all this talk about writers, is a too technical way to approach a series and takes you out of the world.
Your job as a viewer is to take in this world and ride the ride, your job is not to overthink every little detail, and "correct" the writers' pen.
I'm happy I don't have to watch a show with that kind of mentality, it makes me able to get so much more enjoyment from TV shows.
Dunno if you know this by now but Chandler (Carl) said on talking dead that he gave it away when fighting walkers with Sidique when he makes a surprised face. He wasn't sure if people would notice (I didn't at first but now it's all I can see on rewatch) . So if you never got an answer to that, rewatch that part and you'll see
I’m actually really happy with the way Carl went out. I agree that him getting bit in such a stupid way is infuriating, but what comes after is perfection. Him hiding the bite and dedicating the last moments of his life to being a great leader and saving his people is such a poetic end for him. Think about it: he made a mistake with a Walker that got Dale killed and after that he never wanted to touch another gun again. This time he made a mistake with a Walker that got HIM killed, and instead of shutting down again he steps up and makes the most out of what he time he has left. That’s some character development right there! I’m sad he’s gone too but at least his last actions were heroic af.
So basically: I don’t like the way he was bit but I do very much like what came after
Those funny looking rifles with big round barrels were grenade launchers, they were firing them into the compound.
0:12 Those smiles gonna be gone real soon
Yeah this was a rough one and indeed many people felt similarly about this episode and season as a whole. I promise you, season 9 and 10 are so well done due to the new show runner.
Season 9 is way better. And season 10 is probably my favorite. Season 8 was meh. The show gets way better in my opinion
The show has gotten way worse personally
Yes, this is one of the reasons we didn't like season 8...that and a few other reasons ill name that you already seen(cuz i want to avoid spoilery info): the damn close ups was way too repetitive, a little too much filler in one season, too much things make no sense, thats all ill name right now. Its a good season as in compared to other TV shows...even the worst episodes are better TV than other cable shows..BUT its not a rewatchable season, other than a few episodes and of course reactions.
Carl help the man in the woods cause he said that it’s what his mom wanted him to be : a good man. Lori told Carl before dying that he should always do the right thing, and if something didn’t feel right, don’t do it. By this small gesture of helping that man, he was getting back to what’s really important, he was honoring her. He also said to Henid : sometimes the kids have to show their parents the way ( insinuating that Rick lost His)…after all this , they’re gonna have to start trusting people again.
One more thing Negan and the Saviors were the ones who blew up all of the houses that's why he said "Bombs away!" also Rick Carol and Jerry were in separate cars and The Saviors came and hit Jerry's car knocking him out and the guy that Simon shot who was sitting in the back of the car that Maggie and Jesus were in was Neil he was a blacksmith for Hilltop
In( Wong Shi Tong voice) I believe I've gotten some misinformation about how good season 8 is
Nope never will the decision to kill Chandler off will be a good idea it just never made sense. Keep up the great work. ✌
Guess what, they have a soldier making machine
he got bit clearly when he saved saddiq, it was a grenade launcher which can easily do that, he wanted to leave the show thats why, it was meant to be a big suprise shocker. When you don't look up stuff yall get really confused as to whats going on and why, instead of talking so much during the episode you wouldnt miss important dialogue, he clearly clearly clearly said, i brought him here thats how it happened and he pulls down the bandage.
I'll say what probably everyone else has said. Just make it thru Season 8 and Seasons 9 and 10 will be *so* much better.
Yeah it was good but Season 3 and first half of season 4 is still the best seasons for me idk The Governor arc is just amazing
They were shooting grenades
Dialogue always gets in the way of death.
