Any body that will trap and sell their furs for these prices are doing themselves and the entire fur industry a disservice. Don't sell fur at these prices.
Irish, I was just ready to rant and rave over the prices but did just fine. When fur was fair, average beaver 65.00. dogs (coyotes) 75.00, rats 5 to 7 or8 big rats. All my traps are down in the shot. I help out out farmers with beaver problems but that's it You no longer can live of the land trapping, what a shame. If you wanted you could make500.00 a week but those times are gone forever. The best to ya. Alberta Canada
I appreciate that much. It is a fascinating but very hard job. Keep on, buddy. Fur is a beautiful material and worth all the effort. Tight chains and good luck!
Inflation adjusted that would be 160$ for red fox and 80$ for raccoon now. Instead more like 20 for fox and 10 for racoon? At the same time there are basically no well paying jobs and you have to be self employed or be lucky and have a good business.. Tough times for most people and it keeps getting worse. I feel sad for my children and have no idea what they should do.
@@fabiancanada8876 In the US state of Utah has a $50 coyote bounty program I hunt in. It is great with a state government check for the scalps and lower jaw so not skinning and selling hides. The program is listed on the Internet under Utah Coyote state bounty program. I use a FoxPro caller - AR 15 in 17 Remington and an AR 10 in 6mm-284 win for long shots I have used a Tikka T3 Ultra-light in 7 mm Re mag shooting 125 grain bullets that carry a very long ranger with little bullet drop.
A new average truck is around 75k (CAD) here with about 7$/gallon for gas. Insurance around 1500 CAD/year. And you better dont need any repairs, mentainance, new tires or anything like that. Minimum wage is 15 $/h and a lot of people are working for that. As a skilled person you would be hard to get more than 25$/h. So you can pretty much forget employment here in Nova Scotia (with a few exceptions like teachers e.g.) and need to be self employed/have a business which isn't easy to start/run either (at least not in the beginning). You can get a decent house for about 300k at 6% financing. Food is really expensive.
Thank you, Jeremiah. Some sad, but much needed information. Sad that trapping is gradually becoming a lost skill, a dying art, and the abandonment of a renewable resource.
As a buyer, I have made some calls, beaver are not as strong as many would think, Stetson has told me that they have a warehouse full of pelts and buying will be limited, be careful of your take, make sure you do not over trap, leave seed for next year.
For many years the state of Utah has a coyote bounty program that pays $50 per coyote - only need to take the lower jaw and scalp then get your state check for total coyotes killed. Just look it up Utah state coyote bounty program. To cut cost I put a motor kit on a bike I bought at goodwill for $10 so it runs on a liter of full for a week for driving back roads. Any gun can be used when you aren't saving the fur, and an electronic caller really brings in the Yotes.
$ 30 .00 to $ 60.00 for a well fired bobcat I think I will try my hand at tanning it cost like $ 650..00 now to have one mounted thank you to who replied back to me
Hard to compare $$ to $$ but in the late 70's my uncle paid for 4 years of tuition at PSU to get a forestry degree all with fur money. Now that same TUITION is 18k per year. But what the hell, that's only 6000 rats or 1800 red fox PER YEAR
If you are still trapping IT must be that you love the lifestyle the challenge of it or just have a need to do it And that's ok if you like it do it But for me trapping Is fun but I can't do it just for fun! But gosh I sure miss it
@@trappingtoday When I was a kid in the 80s my brother and me was dirt poor. We started trapping and calling . We made darn good money in them days. We stretched and dried everything we caught. We became very good at it. Then Bob barker came along and ruined the fun.
That is absolutely depressing. If you aren’t simply doing predator control you can’t afford snares let alone traps, gas, and time. I’m sorry, I trapped when I was young and got better prices than that.
It's been about 10 yrs maybe more.i called this guy who was saying he'd by hides.he wanted to pay 17 dollars.but wanted me to tan them first. No way in hell
Fur Harvesters has 2 auctions for international buyers in March and June. Groenewold is running routes and buying from the truck throughout the middle of the country
Not many local markets anymore. Depending where you're at, the only options may be shipping to Fur Harvesters or sell to a regional buyer like groenewold

Agreed. Quit going to market and force a price increase
We quit trapping til the prices make sense.
PETA would be glad to hear these words. You can't force higher prices if no one is buying furs.

Prices are prices, I trap to get out and enjoy the sport! Thanks for the update!!!
You bet
Thanks for not caring about money and keeping our marshes alive.

I remember getting $80 for red fox and $40 for raccoon
i don't think we'll ever see those prices again......it would be great just to get halfway there!
State of Utah still has the $50 per coyote bounty program@@trappingtoday
And those were 1979 dollars
I know because I made that same kind of money trapping in high school 1979

Quite a spread between Fur prices, new Trucks and Gas.
sure is!

Man, 5-7 years ago, I averaged 14.50 a muskrat and my otter got 90.00 a piece ,70.00 for coyote, sad to see the price nowadays
Thanks for the vid Jeremiah ! The otter prices are a sad deal along with the rest of it ! Just keep trapping !!!!
You got that right!
Thanks Bob from New Jersey trapper
Thanks Jeremiah, good information and your insight.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for your time an insight…
My pleasure!
Sad but good to know
Just got into trapping last 10 years wish I did younger hope prices goes up
When I was younger raccoons 85 and beaver was 60 to 65 and fox both red and grey was 80 or more
Thank you, Jeremiah. Some sad, but much needed information. Sad that trapping is gradually becoming a lost skill, a dying art, and the abandonment of a renewable resource.
For sure
The mink ranches around here closed up shop. I assumed from fur prices.

Hey thanks for the info
thinking you will not need to worry abt over harvest :)
@@doncallies8803but if people would slow their harvest way down, it would force a price increase 🤷🏼♂️
I got 20 bucks for medium size. 30 for large and 50 for blankets. Even had some medium small stale h8des got 10 for.

Keeps lots of people on the couch and a lot less trap theft.
How much is a bobcat worth from Virginia
If well furred I think $60. If not a minimum $30
Thanks😊
Are these put up prices, green or on round?
These prices are generally for put up fur
Good job.
Thanks Jim!
I quit trapping years ago because of prices
Is there any ptovate sales going on ,can i make offers and get replies from trappers?
Will the prices ever go up?
Well...... were.done!! Thats that!!

My dad has a beaver fur in the Edmonton fur auction. Since 1988 the year he died. Never did get a dime for it.
Make fur work cool again

5 or 6 bucks with some potential for increase later in the season
