I just found the motherload of glass sheets at a estate sale!! Thanks for being one of my teachers!
Hi Fran! You are a rockstar! WOAH! Lucky you!! Have fun with them. What will you make first?? Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!
Thanks Julie!! It was awesome 👏🏻 .
Thanks for watching Maryam! It's a really fun, quick project to mosaic. Keep creating!
As always I love your tips and content. Thank you!
Hi Piper! YAY! Thanks so much for your kind words and support. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
Love watching you work!!
Hi Dee Ann! Awww, thanks so much! 😊 Great to hear you're enjoying the mosaic making in my videos. I appreciate you being here!🔥
I absolutely love your videos. I just started out a few months ago and have learned so much from you! Thank you thank you. I love the Star Wars themed mosaic. When my son was little he would have loved it!
Hi Ann! Awwww, that's great to hear! I'm glad you're learning and getting some value out of my videos. Star Wars is a classic for sure. Keep creating! Thanks for being here!
Great video ♥️
Hi Diana, thank you! I'm glad you're here. Keep creating!
Hi Julie I always love your videos. I’ve done mixed media, but never quite like this. It will be fun to try. I love your pieces that you did.
Hi Judy! Thank you for your kind words.😊 This style of mosaic is fun when you want to do a little something or are getting your feet wet (again). Not having to grout removes any pressure so to speak. Have fun with it. Keep creating and I’m thankful you’re here.🔥
Your son will love it because his mother made it for him.
Hi Suzannah! What a sweet thing to say. Thank you!!! He does love it. I'm glad you're here!
Thank you for your videos! I've learned so much and appreciate the links. I would love to see a video on making the round glass birdfeeders that look like a donut with the center open. I have looked all over the internet to find the glass piece and cannot find it except by the 1,000s. I don't like them that much. I would love tips on adding mosaics to curved glass surfaces. Thank you!
Hi Lynn! WOW! You gave me 2 video ideas. I'll add them to the list! I can visualize the bird feeders but haven't seen them in glass. I'll do a search. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
I use shells,love the beach.
Hi Joan! Ohhh, I bet that’s beautiful! Keep creating and I’m so glad you’re here!🔥
Hi Julie, I just took my first mosaic art class and I am already hooked. Thank you for the very educational and fun videos.
What adhesive would you recommend for a mixed media project on a wood substrate using various tiles and aluminum wire? Thanks
Hi ILDI S! Welcome to the world of mosaic!🤗 Great to hear you're enjoying my videos. It sounds like you'll be using a mix of tesserae thicknesses so I would go with thinset-mortar as your adhesive. I have a few videos to get you started: (1) How to prep your wood for mosaic: ua-cam.com/video/-209xL8AWTc/v-deo.html; (2) How to mix thinset-mortar + grout: ua-cam.com/video/UU0ct32CUmA/v-deo.html; (3) How to tile a mosaic with different tesserae thicknesses: ua-cam.com/video/5AGP-fMTPd8/v-deo.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Thanks for another awesome video and project. Would you ever consider using mirror instead of glass substrate in a project like this . Or do you think the little glints of mirror reflecting light would add or distract from the piece.
Thanks Jan, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I totally agree....although glass mirror is strong enough for the project, I wouldn't use it due to the reflective nature of the material.
Really wonderful the way you are so thorough with your explanation of these projects. I notice you use white trays for your tesserea, where did you source them?
Hi Lynn! Thanks for watching and your kind words. Oh my, those white trays. Love 'em! I want more! I bought them at HomeGoods yeeeeaaarrrrs ago in their 'outdoor entertaining' section. I'm still looking for similar and will let you know if I find any. They're so helpful because they don't have to a 90-degree angle, it's slightly curved. Great for clean up! I'll keep you posted. I'm glad you're here!
Hi Lynn! I found some white trays for your tesserae. Check these out: amzn.to/3yhX3CM. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Julie!
Thank u for your super videos, the mixed media mosaic turns out soo pretty.
Grout is not needed at all ?
Hi Mrinalini! Awww, thanks for your kind words!😊 It's great to hear you're enjoying my videos. I didn't grout this mixed media mosaic, and it didn't need it either. I placed the tesserae very close together, touching whenever possible. You can certainly grout your mixed media piece if you like, but I didn't want that look. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
@@JulieWeilbacher waiting to make a mixed media mosaic piece of art!
U are soo sweet and prompt with your replies to our questions! Thank u
Julie what tool is best to use to cut thicker tile? I get confused but I have just about every tool !
Hi Lynn! It sounds like you need to use compound tile nippers. Those can handle thicker, hard to cut tile and porcelain. Have fun and keep creating!
Very cool Julie! Your piece is an 8"X10". How big of a picture frame do you think i could go without having to worry about the glass breaking? I'm not worried about the frame itself. That can be reinforced. I most likely will be using just stained glass.
Hi Judith, glad you like it!! Agreed, the frame can definitely be/should be reinforced when going larger. As for a size above an 8x10....keep in mind the glass that comes in standard frames is there to protect the item being framed so it's not 'heavy' so to speak. You could always find a replacement glass that's thicker than what comes in a standard frame. But, if you're not wanting to get into all of that and you just want to mosaic something that's store-bought, I wouldn't go larger than an 11" x 14" frame. Keep creating! I can't wait to hear what you create!
@@JulieWeilbacher Thanks Julie for your reply. 11"×14" frame is a good size. Now to find a frame and reinforcements. Have an awesome weekend! 🌹🌹🌹
@@judithstodola5521 Perfect! Have fun!!
Hi, would you mix smalti and stained glass?
Hi Mary! I have and it makes for a great mixed media mosaic. In fact there's smalti and stained glass in the piece from this video. I love the look of mixing materials. I do (usually) grout smalti and stained glass mosaic art. Whereas, I wouldn't usually grout just smalti mosaic art. If you're unsure, test it by making a small mosaic (2" x 2") and grout it to see if you like the look before fully committing. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!
Hello. Can this method be used for a larger frame...say 16x20 or larger? Thank you!
Hi Josie! Yes, it definitely can! Keep these things in mind, especially at that larger size: make sure you brace the frame really well before you install the glass or acrylic and make sure it's a well-made frame -- you'll be adding a lot of weight with your tesserae. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here.🔥
@@JulieWeilbacher Thank you so much. I very happy to have found your channel💜
