Excellent Paul. Keep it up. I took Strauss/Howe generational theory as written in "Generations", combined it with Colin Woodard's cultural geographic depiction of North America's "11 Nations", and overlaid both with sociologist Jerald Hage's "Knowledge Evolution and Societal Transformations" with the result of discerning a theory of human power as applicable at macro, meso, and micro levels of society that if not done knowingly of its operant resultant social manifestations could result in the loss of liberty and the rise of tyranny in the U.S.A. I include intellectual tools future generations can use to resist this potentiality from happening. From fallacy identification and prevention to a strategic enterprise risk framework, I hope to enable the Millennial and next generations to supplant the power block of argumentative absolutist boomers in positions of power in all it societal instruments (institutions and organizations). I call these kinds of "Me first!" boomers, Baby Doomers, (since they sustain the crises as it benefits them in duopolisitc creating righteousness). I look forward to your next episode. History definitely rhymes and tribalism rises often in our species and nation. The founders vision in ways they may not have articulated, save for the appeal to "reason" was to not fall prey to it, though they too were all too human and had their own societal hypocrisy. Alas, politically the powers of the economy and of the polity battled in the first administration in the philosophies of Hamilton and Jefferson. George Washington managed to ensure the Constitution survived these battles within so that the power of the people might keep its presence as the given one over the nation.

As a member of the Nomad generation Paul I’m compelled to convey to you a very harsh truth!

This episode just might be your best so far. Nice synthesis of where we stand at this point.

Great episode topic as always. I also subscribe to Strauss / Howe Generational theory as a guide for understanding American history. Unfortunately, we are following a trajectory similar to the Roman Empire and, as what happened there, the modern equivalent of "barbarians" as it were who have no shared common culture with the established culture are simply seeking revenge and destruction, though no one seems to want to acknowledge that. The enemies have already broken down the gates but are being temporarily passified by those currently in power.

The "consensus generation" sounds terrifyingly like collectivism of the past...but at scale.

Well, that collectivism is something that comes with hero generations...just as you don't get artist generations without indecisiveness, prophet generations without argumentativeness over principles, and nomad generations without a propensity to tell harsh truths. It's not necessarily a bad quality; it's a matter of how it's applied. Either way, it's there, and it can't be wished away.

I think you are interchanging the term Historians with Historiographers.
