Hey man Kevin here from Australia. Finally you have a real vw beetle on your channel. The steering wheel its on the correct side just how vw intended it to be. 🤣🤣 Seriously what a find any chance of seeing underneath. Anyhoo safe travels and stay well. ✌ Peace
hi chris from ireland i have a 1967 1500 beetle in zenith blue 1500 beetles are very sought after now with the one year only engine lid and valance thats a lovely car you got very clean good luck with it
My wife has one exactly like that. Same colour, black seats, RHD, 6 volt, disc brakes, etc... Sloping headlamps, though. Very awesome. Enjoy it! Jay - South Africa
Funny, my 67 has the earlier style porsche headlights but the picture when it went on sale was the original upright style. I didn't even notice it until after I bought it 🤦♂️
Now you know how I feel getting into my LHD US import Karmann Ghia. I'm constantly holding the gear knob so I don't keep trying to wind the windows down! Creating this model is one of VW's finest moments in my opinion.
Hi Chris, great that you found this car. I keep looking im my area to find such a car for you ,too. At the end its mostly the price they ask for such a car. Merry Christmas from Germany.
Very cool! Here in europe, 67s have all been made with this early headlights and bumpers, after that they went directly to the newer headlights and straight bumpers in 68. Kinda wish there was the USA version of the 67 here also, seems like the perfect combination of vintage features and bigger engine.
Thats got to be a UK British Beetle being RHD not mainland Europe, but odd that it has US bumpers and headlights. Nice car I have a UK 67 here in Scotland
In the UK in 1967 the road tax was £19 for all sizes of motor so the theory on the 1300 being bought due to cheaper tax than the 1500 isn’t correct. The 1500 was a lot more expensive in the UK more of the 1300 models were sold making a 1967 1500 Beetle a rare item in the UK but extremely rare in the US.
Simon, where in Scotland are you? I'm in the NE and would love to meet up with fellow bug owners once the sunshine starts and the gritters go into hiding.
No you're sitting in the correct side 😂 I thought the early 67 had 5 stud not 4 there were just so many different versions in 67. Mine has upright lights 12v etc. Mines an Oct 67
Cool car! Pointer: try to use your clutch pedal as minimally as possible to save your clutch release bearing and clutch cable. I put my car in neutral all the time and get my foot off the clutch pedal.
Awesome to see you in a RHD at last Chris - it’s all I’ve ever known being in the UK. Was this a UK car originally? Bet it was cold with the shop doors open. Loving it !
Love that bug! I have a '68 Euro-spec VW1300 (left hand drive though). '67-'68 is definitely an odd time in Beetle history. Lots of changes to US models but only some of those changes made it to the European Beetles. Makes it...interesting...sometimes when trying to buy parts.
Car tax systems in Europe vary from country to country. In the UK for cars made before 2001, there are two tax brackets based on engine size. The cheaper bracket is below 1550cc, and the more expensive one is 1550cc and above, so this car would have the biggest engine available for lower tax. Although, it's a moot point now as all cars over 40 years old are tax exempt anyway.
Wow, really nice car. Is the upholstery vinyl or cloth? From what I have been told, European models are commonly cloth upholstered. Other than the steering wheel and controls location, it looks much like my 1972 German Super Beetle. I have the same directional signals on the front fender, '68 tombstone tail lights in red and amber on top, later Euro headlights with the parking light through the reflector, and the black crash pad. I also have a Grundig 4 band radio. The face on the radio is gone and it doesn't work but I am hoping to get that taken care of this coming year. Mine also has front disc brakes by ATE; two pin caliper pad pins. The calipers have 40mm diam pistons but are not like the calipers in the Type 4 and later Type 14/34 Karmann Ghia models; these had 42 mm diam pistons and a different hold down bolt hole spacing. The earlier ATE calipers have a closer bolt hold down spacing than the later calipers. This is the best way to tell them apart. IIRC, the spacing on the single pin and dual pin calipers for the KG, and Euro Beetle and Euro Super Beetle is on the order of 55mm spacing while the later, larger caliper is on the order of 72mm hold down spacing with a 42mm piston diameter.
Wrong bumpers though aren't they? Euro bumpers should be the shorter uprights and no overriders right? I have a US 67 sunroof, and it's cool knowing all the one year only parts. Very special year.
How and where did you find it?. Are the shifting gears in the same place? First year would be far into the left? What other changes are there between this is a US 67? Nice find!
Found in Missouri in an airplane hangar. Shifting is the same. So this euro 67 has front disc brakes, USA version didn't, early headlights, USA went straight light, VW-1500 on rear decklid, USA version just said Volkswagen, 4 lug rims, USA version kept 5 lug.
If my memory is correct, in the UK we had 1200's, 1300's and 1500's and I think the purchase tax was dependant on the cars value, we also had to buy a road fund licence but that was the same whatever size engine was in the car. My dad had a '65 1200 that ran on the fumes in the tank, what I mean by that is it never seemed to use much petrol, he was astounded by the mpg from this little car. This is a really nice example and I'm sure that after it's been 'Valloned' it will be even nicer, looking forward to seeing more of it, atb and Merry Christmas from England
Shifting gears with your left hand would be almost as bad as trying to write left handed. And then driving on the wrong side of the road on top of that. All of this just to keep your sword hand free to engage oncoming attackers.
It came without a radio from the factory and someone added the radio and antenna at a later date. Could have been dealer or customer installed. Original antenna would have had a chrome base.
Where can I find original seats for a 66 bug? Bought one a few months ago restoring it but only came with drivers seat I’ve tried to find them but can’t
yeah I know about the chrome, no biggie there, plus the interior is not right either so... but as far as the knobs, I will have to look into the 67 model from Europe, they may of had still the ivory knobs. Some features lagged behind.
@@classicvwbugs no they definitely had the black dash knobs, im from the UK, and have owned a 67. You actually messaged me back in summer 2019 about my 1200 Sparkafer 67 that I had for sale, sadly I'd just sold it.

Hey Chris - since it's a private road, DRIVE ON THE LEFT SIDE! :)
It looks so much like my old VW bug, I miss it 😢
As an ex UK car, a 67’ 1500 would have had sloping headlamps as standard 👍🏻
Cool car. Would be interesting to know how it ended up in the US.

Was hard for me Driving LHD for first time, doesn't help if it has alot of play in the gearshift!
It was not terrible I gotta say. But I still have to get up on the main road.
A very cool '67 bug. Was it hard to get used to shifting from that side? I think I'd have a lot of difficulty learning that.

Beautiful! 1 question about the car: Why the side body antenna but there's a chrome plug where the antenna is located on later cars?
It came without a radio from the factory and someone added the radio and antenna at a later date. Could have been dealer or customer installed. Original antenna would have had a chrome base.
