- Which is better, Buses or Trams for within district mode of transportation in Cities: Skylines? While Trains, Metro and Monorail are obviously the best for long distance travel.
Tutorial is based on my Let's Play Series Organic Road Layout.

The station burning down was the highlight 😂
4:10 train/monorail Statiom: hey dude. Im burning. DUDE, wheres the firefighters. DUDE, IM GONNA COLLAPSE. *collapses*. Well, i guess i'll be here until he rebuilds me.
That train at 4:00 nearly didn't make it.
The goods really needed to be delivered!
He just went for it! Haha that's awesome
The best guide about Trams and Bus i ever have watch. Thanx for the Guid :)
Glad it was helpful!
Nice Video! Really Helpful Tutorial 🔥
Nice Tutorial and i learn so freacking much
Great video 👍🏼 Can you do one on monorail/metro?
I'll see what I can do
I am a big fan of the trams, they can hold 90 people at time. But buses I feel like the routes can go further, distance of the route wise.
Great tutorial! I hope you will do others about transportation .
hi stew.
@@Terminaor12386 Hi Train. Good to see you!
Nooooo, your opening sentence. As someone who develops an extensive Tram network in City Skylines - more than half a tile long. Note; I have just started playing again after a break of 3 years. I love the new tram road options :).
Nice one.. Thank you.
Thank you too
Excellent video! Really good!
I just wanted to know the expenses for each transport. Can you show it? Congratulations!!
If you're wondering if public transportation is earning a profit, they are not meant to. They are meant to encourage the Cims to use public transportation than use their own vehicles and cause more traffic. But if you insist on seeing the public transportation expenses, you'll need to message me on discord. discord.gg/tnHSQyR
great video, just a question: how much distance do you have between your stops and does that distance vary between the different modes of transportation?
A great question! I don't think there are any given methodologies on the stops and their distances before with cities skylines and we could be the first to do so. And the advantage of having basically just started or got serious with my yt channel is, I can republish a video if I missed anything then delete the previous. I'll let this video sit in for a while, then edit and republish.
TL:DR nice video, here is some more info about topic
There was a lot posts about this topic on reddit and steam discussion. It depends on what you play right now. Vanilla game limits your option to the most basic and not very effecient way of trouble solving. In vanilla the only thing you should care is "green hapiness zone" becuse this indicate how many households is in the range of the stop. This can somehow show you how to draw a lines. You have to stay between speed (few stops, long distance simple line) and service (more frequent stops, less cim walking, more possible commuters). Max cim walking distance 1024m or is half of a tile (2kmx2km). Vanilla tricks can be also used in PS4/XBO versions.
Second play style:
Mods and assets. You can utilize more bus routes and extending their functionality by simply downloading custom bus types like Solaris, MAN, Volvo, Mercedes or your local american/asian if available. Also trams, in most case european types like Citadis 302, Pesa Swing, Bombardier Flexity like Berlin ones. Those vechicles have expanded capacity so you can have more cims by less vechicles which means less traffic. About spacing between stops, this is similar to vanilla, green happy faces indicates effective range. Also you can look at the european city bus or tram services and try to copy their methods of stop spacing and overall line shapes. With More precision tools mod you can now see the distance in meters. In that case good stop spacing are: Bus200-400m (symetric line works the best)
Trams: (remember about pedestrian crosing around stops) 300-500m.
Metro: 800-1400m.
Trains: More than 1.5km
Monorail: 700-1000m (i don't like them in game)
Trolley-Same as bus
Hope it will help someone :)
I like to put my stops in more realistic locations that a real life bus line would have. Like in front of a popular store, at a park entrance, etc, rather than just in the middle of a long street with nothing around, UNLESS you are tracking who is riding the bus, and it's mostly resident going f3om home to work, then in that case, put a stop near said houses and work places
Don't forget about cable cars. Much nicer than trams or buses.
I much prefer buses to trams. Three times as many vehicles on the street is a small price to pay to avoid having to put down tracks and overhead power lines, which usually results in tearing out all the nicely planted trees on the medians.
Trams have same capacity as Buses, and you are right, bus roads are nicer all the way around
@@fortusvictus8297 what model do u have
@@fortusvictus8297 trolleybus is the one that has same capacity as bus
Hi
This is helpful, sometimes I am not sure on where (low or high density) or which (bus or tram) to put that is suitable (& efficient) for the areas in the city.
If you have any other question, feel free to ask. I'm in the process of making videos of common issues players have with the game.
@@Captain_Ahvious I wanted to ask about industrial traffic but after watching some videos, you did raised/answered my questions on Episode 10 (I think i'll provide some views there, because, relatable). I think, maybe if you want to do other videos, you can do some that relates to the garbage processing with the Sunset Harbor DLC (the ones with Waste Transfer Facilities) - sort of like an in-depth view & techniques that you might use for it. Or you can show some simple building techniques on slopes & bridges - I did have some issues to make gradual slopes & bridges using vanilla (which is why I use the precision engineering mod, hahaha). Either way, keep posting good content - I believe it helps a lot of people, especially console players (although I'm not playing CS on console but I do get asked by them when I stream on Twitch..)
Im completely new to this game, do you need an extra pack or dlc or something to use trams? (I want to know before buying)
Trams come from Snowfall DLC. But before you decide on purchasing Cities Skylines base game and its DLCs consider getting them on sale on Steam. For 1 DLC, you could get 2 if you bought them on sale. Just place it on your wishlist in Steam.
Buses can go where ever they like, Trams are Limited 2 their designated lane
any can help he find the Vanilla tennis court? mines is missing for some reason.
maybe it only appears on European maps?
If you play on PC and you're not on a European Themed map, you can activate the European Theme in the styles.
What map is this?
Rip your train-monorail station
Is this vanilla? Great city.
Yes and its part of the same Vanilla city from 0 to over 100k population, while maintaining a +90% traffic flow. ua-cam.com/video/6eOsZDQMqJU/v-deo.html
What mod is it
Dlc snowfall
Out of date. Trams only carry 30, so there is NO benefit over buses now...and bus roads are higher in land value and less noise cancelation
Vanilla trams still has a capacity of 90
