Apple removed the headphone jack to further isolate their ecosystem and to make companies that want to make headphones for the iphone pay a fee. In the end, it's all about the money.
I upgraded to the 7 from the 5s and I find it to be a MASSIVE upgrade in speed and battery life. But that's just me. If you're happy with the 5s, that's awesome. :)
I just upgraded from the 5s as well. Everyday that I use my phone I'm completely speechless at how much of a fucking upgrade it is. This phone is amazing.
I'm waiting for my jet lack which I paid 3 days after release date, but it's shipping in November lol. Honestly though, is it worth getting the jet black even though you're going to use a case? I'd imagine yes. Jet black is most likely not going to devalue as much as other colors 2 years down the road. If you decide to sell it or trade it in, you'd probably find more willing buyers.
Only reason apple removed the headphone jack was because they weren't making money off it, with the lighting cable they have a Patton on it so all headphone companies who are going to make lighting headphones for the iPhone they'll have to pay apple to implement that in their product which will be used on apples products. Apple just want to make as much money as possible as you can see in Ireland how they were only paying 1% Corporation Tax which should have been 12.5% which is already excellent business for them.
Yep and that's why the lightning port will fail, I do agree that getting rid of the headphone jack was a smart move, but they should've replaced it with a universal port, like usb c or something like that. They literally traded a universal port for a dongle/ adapter. I would be ok with getting blue tooth headphones if the audio quality didn't suck.
With high-end phones like the iphone, Galaxy S/Note, Lg G etc, it's really just a waste of money to upgrade every year. It's best to upgrade every 2 years, since the annual improvements in flagship models are usually negligible. The iPhone 6s is still competing with every other phone out there
The 6S is my top pick. However, the only thing that is holding me back from getting it is that it's not water resistant. This is a major feature for me since I work with water for my job and I have already killed 3 phones in 2 years due to water damage. It's why I have been using cheap, pay-as-you-go phones so I could quickly and easily change out my phone when they end up getting soaked. The iPhone 7 is really appealing to me since it has this feature and it could survive being in water but the absent headphone jack and new, high price makes it difficult to go with it. The Galaxy S7 looks pretty neat too, but I honestly prefer IOS over Android.

Honestly, if i think far, I think its a good think they remove the headphone jack. You see, they are not being crazy. and if you think they remove it to make way for water proofing, that wasn't it. Sony did waterproofing with headphone jack. The thing is, they want the users to have the sound they should get when they buy headphones or whatever car system audio they have. Now, what the lightning port does for audio is they transfer digital signal. With headphone jack, it has been "DAC'ed" in the phone itself. Basically, its transferring a digital signal that has been changed to analogue in the phone itself (which phone stock DAC aren't that impressive to be honest.) So now, what Apple is helping audio makers do is create headphones that will have their own DAC chips, somehow in their headphones (so depends on manufacturer, you'll get better DAC), and therefore get the right sound that you pay so much for. Nowadays, you are paying high end headphones, but relying on a small not so good DAC. And you use a seperate DAC, you might be double converting or maybe even double amplifying. Easy said, the lightning port will help deliver digital format and that can create better sound. and cmon, normally you would only use one headphone/earpiece. You wont lose that 'dongle'. It'll be stuck on your headphones. If you lose it, you'll lose with your headphones. So that's the same as before. Apple took away the CD slot, and that was brilliant. I think this will be another brilliance. Haters, you'll see it will happen!

I have the 7 and just bought some regular Bluetooth earbuds on Amazon for $20. They don't sound AMAZING, but they aren't terrible, I can walk 30 feet away from my phone while still listening, and take phone calls. All while the phone is charging. The home "button" works fine for me. It feels like a real button because the haptic feedback (which is awesome btw, it's used when doing other things with the phone too). The camera for photos and videos are incredible too. I was skeptical because people were saying it isn't a huge step up, but I have to disagree.

Simplicity is a very different thing to an OS being 'simple'. iOS is complex, but it's very well optimised to work with the set hardware they have. This can't really be said for Android.

One reason both the button and the headphone jack were removed was to make the phone waterproof. It's also been theorized that they are prepping the public for a phone without a home button.
Apple actually stated they removed the headphone jack for space reasons and believes the use of corded headphones will be a thing of the past soon. The jack made room for more camera and battery components (this was stated by Apple execs in BuzzFeed interview). I personally think it helped with waterproofing as well, but that's the opinion of a lot of people if you read around. If you watch the Galaxy vs iPhone 7 waterproof tests on UA-cam, you'll see the iPhone is more waterproof than than the Galaxy. At least the videos I watched showed this. I would guess thats because of those two changes, but I personally have no proof. And again, the theory is they are prepping the public for an iPhone without a home button. But that's just a theory so who knows for sure, but I could see it happening in the 8 or 9.
If you compare inside of iPhone 7 and 6, you'll notice that they haven't even utilized the space which they got by courageously removing the jack. 1440p is overkill for a 5 in. display. The human eye can't see more than 300ppi.

The only reason why this phone is so smooth is because ios10 is so fucking simple. 2gb ram on the 7 is nothing! Yet it manages to run smoothly because of the most simple software.
Simplicity is a very different thing to an OS being 'simple'. iOS is complex, but it's very well optimised to work with the set hardware they have. This can't really be said for Android.

One reason both the button and the headphone jack were removed was to make the phone waterproof. It's also been theorized that they are prepping the public for a phone without a home button.

Apple actually stated they removed the headphone jack for space reasons and believes the use of corded headphones will be a thing of the past soon. The jack made room for more camera and battery components (this was stated by Apple execs in BuzzFeed interview). I personally think it helped with waterproofing as well, but that's the opinion of a lot of people if you read around. If you watch the Galaxy vs iPhone 7 waterproof tests on UA-cam, you'll see the iPhone is more waterproof than than the Galaxy. At least the videos I watched showed this. I would guess thats because of those two changes, but I personally have no proof. And again, the theory is they are prepping the public for an iPhone without a home button. But that's just a theory so who knows for sure, but I could see it happening in the 8 or 9.
If you compare inside of iPhone 7 and 6, you'll notice that they haven't even utilized the space which they got by courageously removing the jack. Here's the inside of two phones-
