  • EDIT: Tank is 72” x 24” x 29” (not 19”) 😂 sorry for the typo
    Hello everyone!
    This is a short video showing the new aquascape I did recently on the 210 gallon display tank in my 265 gallon bichir system. This tank houses my wild caught polypterus collection which include P. bichir bichir, P. endlicheri 'Black Volta', P. Lapradei 'Koliba, P. Lapradei 'Koloton', P. Lapradei 'Faranah', P. weeksii and my captive bred polypterus including P. ornatipinnis and P. senegalus 'albino'. In this tank I also have a 14-15" Indonesian Tiger aka Datnoid (Datnioides microlepis) and a Leopard bushfish (Ctenopoma acutirostre).
    I removed all the black plastic PVC for a more natural feel. I placed several pieces of driftwood including a piece of Manzanita that was over 3 feet long and reached almost all the way to the surface. I also used some rocks as well as pieces of Malaysian and Mopani driftwood. The large Manzanita is anchored to a piece of slate as it tends to slowly float upwards.
    There are no plants in this tank although the 55 gallon sump that filters it has a lot of plant material including Java moss, Subwassertang and Java fern.
    The tank is heated with a 500 watt Finnex heater to 78-79 degrees Fahrenheit and is also filtered by a Fluval FX6.
    I have been playing around with getting a "shimmer" effect and have found that lower light levels from a single source help to create it along with water agitation such as that created by a circulation pump.
    A downside to using a circulation pump is that it seems to freak out the Datnoid.
    Anyway, let me know what you like and don't like about this scape. Thank you for watching and happy fishkeeping!

      Hey bro. It eats pellets, shrimp, silversides. I am lucky it started eating pellets even as a baby. You can tie a pellet to a thread and pull it so it looks like it’s alive... they will usually strike those

    @thefishbeast awesome set up.. i currently have a 110 gallon tank with an oscar, green texas and senegal bichir, do you think i can add one ornate and one albino to the tank?

    • @TheFishBeast
      @TheFishBeast  3 роки тому

      I’d say add the albino sen but skip the ornate (they get to over 20”)

      @@TheFishBeast i had a feeling.. i was thinking of upgrading in 2 or 3 years to a 200+ gallon so maybe he won't be so big by then? i was wondering more in terms of compatibility? if not maybe you can recommend other smaller bichirs that could work :) appreciate the help :)
