"Voltage at zero degrees"
Linus Why??
AC voltage can be mesured in degrees as it oscilated at a given frequency
through two 180° sine waves.
It becomes even more complex when one has Three Phase or when ther are
Inductve/capacitive loads causing voltage to lead current or vice vesa.
Answer me this. Does current flow over the surface of a conductor or does it flow
through it like water through a pipe?
@@andrew_koala2974 The AC voltage is measured in volts. The "phase" (more appropriately phase difference) can be measured in degrees, provided you have a multi-phase system. The CPU runs on DC, so no phase, and no 'degree' measurements.
Also, lets cut this guy some slack. 'twas a slip of tongue. Happens all the time.
@@asadulhaq6689 Yeah I agree and I believe this is true since he has just mentioned 26 degrees for the temperature. No big deal, Linus knew it..

A guess: some of those missing pads are grounds that have been made common. Result, at least one of the voltage sensor circuits is missing its ground connection and thus the 0v reading.
@Kappa Yeah but specific pins on the socket have to be making contact with that shorted ground for it to make the reading, it cant use the ground pins from another pin in the socket to get those reading because it's not hooked up to the sensor. The grounds would all have to be shorted together on the board side too......
both in desktops and laps there are some pin actually useless to get the cpu running. if you use a bga to take a laptop cpu off you ll find many pins are not connected to the motherboard.

Only then does the seller receive any money. Otherwise you can file for a return and they usually refund shipping too. Let's all be glad Intel doesn't take extra precautions to Killswitch/lock processors to certain functions. A quality Apple has taken up. Keep the tech freedom going!
Too much expenditure for that
There was a time when every single processor released by Intel are free to overclock the hell out of it. Now we have to pay extra to get that function. Just saying.
Dang! Last time I watched Linus he was doing unboxing for NCIX vancouver. Now at 7.3mil subs wut! Good going bro!
@CHARLES 13X Hah good one
For a while over the last year to year and a half, i felt that the content you guys put out was missing something. Seems like things are getting better now from at least my perspective. Keep it up!
These cpus are named as "magically modified" cpus. It would be much better to make the shipment to a china address and find some friend to bring it here, just if you really wanna these "cheap" chips. Usually for directly overseas shipping, "tax", "addition shipping fee" take place since taobao is not an international online shopping website. BTW, be aware that taobao sells lower quality stuffs than tmall, tmall and taobao are both sub-brands of ali-express.
Or use a shipping agent such as Superbuy or CSSBuy.
Magically modified... You know you could just say "hacked" because 魔改造 was a Japanese word that got used in Chinese AFAIK.

@@lol2094 yup you can get around the taxes and such via those agenrs with a little bit of risk.

*THUMBS UP SO LUNUSTECHTIPS CAN SEE!*
Linus team... 4-th gen mobile processors support increasing the turbo boost of all cores to the frequency of the single core. Which means - if for example the turbo boost for single core is 3.8, you could bump up the clockspeeds for ALL 4 CORES to 3.8 Ghz. You can also undervolt it via Intel XTU because it's a mobile chip.
Linus should do a full Frankenstein build!

@@dnbmania Honestly, I would recommend you stay as far away from it as possible. Being the middle man, and having to make up stories to satisfy both the buyer and the seller, processing returns, etc, it was hell. Also, having buyers try to scam you doesn't help. It is a high risk, low reward situation. For about $2400 of sales (not profit, sales), I (with many hours spent every day micromanaging everything, I netted about -$4.00. in 4-th gen they are partially unlocked, yes, I wish they actually tried it in Intel XTU

If this is possible surely an i9 8950hk or an i7 8750h can be made in the same format. It would actually be worth the money then too. Considering bga laptop processors are cheaper than desktop counterparts
I have shopped on Taobao several times and had stuff shipped to the U.S., never come across any sellers asking for extra money for misc. expenses. But, this was in 2020, and Taobao's global shipping program has come a long way.
Oh, and if you want some cool SFF PC cases, there are some pretty awesome options for under $50USD.
Linus should do a video where he puts an entire computer together out of questionable parts from these shady websites. and make it run.

it's not "shady" tho

those 4th gen are still really good im still using 4790k and its still a beast no reason to upgrade anytime soon
I am using a 4790k aswell, great chip
I have an i5 4690K and it still is holding up great with modern games. I'll probably need to upgrade my R9 390 before I need to upgrade the cpu.
mine too still can hold up with 7700 non k with slightly 10% in 4.4ghz
Still worth for upgrade who uses below 4700k(if you can find 4980hq in 1151 socket)
Because:
1.iris igpu
2.l4 chche
3.low power consumption at stock because it's a laptop CPU (also overclock it below 4.4ghz)
4.too cheap in China (price dropped recently)
Even some people doing some test and branchmark finds out that igpu is good at mining in some point
The only cons I know is:
1.cut down least cache
2.overclock setting not store properly
I’m using 2700k at 4.8 should be around same performance. 4th gen is still beast too
This video inadvertently makes me feel better about still running a 4790k. Thanks Linus and crew :)
But can it be overclocked 😂
Not an unlocked chip.
As far as I know, the 4720hq can be overclocked but it depends on the motherboard and the broken voltage readout could make it difficult

Taobao(淘宝)is one of the biggest online platforms you will find worldwide, so I wouldn't call it weird or random. I recently bought a Chinese sim racing wheel and it's an amazing product.
almost everything in your computer is probably a chinese product.
I think Linus should mention the fact that importing hardware from China is extremely time consuming, and comes with some risks that aren't really worth the 80 dollars you're saving. I'm still rocking a Intel core i7 4790k @ 4.4Ghz & 16GB DDR3 Memory @ 2400Mhz using a Nvidia 4GB GTX 980 still plays all games fine with 0 bottlenecks. Looking at benchmarks online the Intel core i7 8700k is not that much faster in games. 4790k still holds it's own no need to upgrade!
I had a 6-core 3930k @ 4.5hz and the same ram setup and went to a 7700k and it wasn't that much faster for most things - but it is faster, except for VR, in VR where stuff is rarely multi-threaded the 7700k was much faster. However the 4-score 7700k was slower overall, as in day to day desktop usage, it was laggy compared to the 6-core 3930k and I hated it. I went to an 8700k which gives you all the game performance increase of the 7700k, but with 6-cores - compared to a 4770k it's a huge increase in system performance.
I've got an Intel i7-2600k at 3.4ghz with a 1070 graphics card. Despite the fact that it only has 4gb of RAM (the rest have died over the years since it was new) it still runs just about every game just fine on a 1920 x 1080 screen. That includes Fallout4 in VR, although it struggles a bit with Skyrim VR since I've put some mods on. If I could get new RAM for it, it would be great.
