    The neck humbucker in the "Gibson" Explorer looks a lot like the kind you found in certain Japanese copies in the 70s and 80s.

  • @BataraKado
    @BataraKado 5 місяців тому +5

    the neck pickup from the explorer im 90% sure is a univox pickup and they used to be pretty high output, the particular shape and cover etc are a classic old school univox pickups are the same, any univox guitar from the 70s (well most) come with these crazy high output pickups thats in that explorers neck pickup position..

    • @seanmckelvey6618
      @seanmckelvey6618 5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, Univox wasn't the only brand that got them though. I think numerous Japanese guitars from the 70's into the 80s could be found with those humbuckers. Probably a specific factory produced them and used them in lots of different guitars.

  • @mikecarbone828

    Salutations Austin!
    In case someone wasn’t paying close attention, the “Explorer” has a 3x3 set of tuning machines that are designed for a standard Les Paul or SG guitar instead of 6 inline tuning machines, so only three (3) of them will work properly. That guitar needs a lot of work altogether, just to play properly. I hope whoever picked it up is able to make the proper modifications to get it to work properly, since they very likely paid way too much for it.
    With the proper modifications and repairs, it could eventually be a functional guitar, and it seems to have a decent case.
    The Les Paul also needs some work, but it is not nearly as bad as the “Explorer”.
    Thank you for sharing this with us all!
    Please have an excellent and awesome day!
    ☀️✨🎸

    I'll bet that Les Paul bounces around in that case. I've got one guitar that has a stereo jack besides a mono jack it's a F200. I also has it's own tuner and controls for levels. That explorer kind of looks like one of those kit guitars or maybe a Drifter knockoff. Don't know on the Drifter version of Explorers but I've known of a few people to have had a Stratocaster Drifter knockoff and they would swear by them. If you could ever find a Strat style Drifter I'd love to see a review on it.

    Hey Austin . Kudos again for all your videos . I usually view them 22 hours after the fact . Winding down after another nightshift (in Australia) . Something looked odd (to me) , regarding the tuners . I have never played any guitar shaped like that , but wouldn't GIBSON have just put their 6 tuners 'in a line " ? If they did what they did just to be 'different to Fender' , I would say they stuffed up big time . Cheers mate 👍

      “Les Paul” was on the SG design until early 63, then dropped for the SG label. Les sued Gibson to have his name removed from the new design. Not only because of the divorce, but Les didn’t really have a hand in designing the SG model as he had in the original! In 67, Gibson noticed that guitar players such as Eric Clapton were using the old bursts and guessing they talked Les into licensing his name again for a new run of the original design of the LP for 68.
