- The Luminosity Invitational has officially wrapped up, and many people have had some mixed opinions about the event. It's always nice to see an invitational, but this one just didn't feel the same for a few different reasons...

Hey, Director of Marketing for LG here. I really appreciate this video and the feedback we're getting is only going to help us get better in the future. A lot of the criticisms we're receiving are definitely valid, however there is so much that goes into planning something like this, and when you add in a sponsor who gets approvals on absolutely everything, you get another layer of things to work through (and a lot of delays). Specifically for bo3, we had a lot of venue and sponsor limitations that we decided to play it safe on. Now that we've seen that we finished way ahead of schedule, we have a better idea of what we can do next time. Also for Lumirank, we give them absolutely 0 input on what should and shouldn't be ranked, and how those things should be ranked. Overall, this was a learning experience for us and we're excited to keep improving and putting on more events for the smash community.
You were scared of Dabuz and Sonix.
Thanks for the clarification. Love what Luminosity has been doing for smash recently.
@@justice8718 Sonix is a pretty intimidating dude.
I also really didn’t care to watch sadly. Felt like there were no stakes, and there was so much blue everywhere. SO MUCH BLUE
Truee. I don't understand color theory and stuff, but the all blue aesthetic they put on creates some like a chill vibe, you know? Not a serious-competitive one.
If they were green they would die
Sonic smh
from the very first impression this event looked to be scuffed. stream starts, had no music on, relatively unknown commentators greet us, after some extended rambling, the sets start and they are best of 3...
It was a one day event... 🙃, that is why pools where bo3
Once I found out it was 10 ppl, my ass was NOT watching. The fuck kinda invitational bracket size is 10?!
The event was already a Mickey Mouse major in my eyes especially with the lack of build up lmao
But what really killed it was just the lack of what the tournament had as 10 players just doesn’t seem enough to really justify its existence on top of the pools being somewhat predictable on top of it being a BO3 pools
I feel like this tourney should have been something completely different. What they could have tried is a 16 man invitational, with the same goal as melee's off-season. Shake things up a little. Like change the stagelist to something completely different, to test if some stages are more interesting than others for a viewing experience. That would also maybe change the character meta quiet a bit. Increase the number of entrants, and also have some side events, similar to what summit had. Maximize entertainment over competetive integrity. Thats at least how I feel about most invitationals. Since invitationals normally already remove a big fraction of the competetive integrity, why not double down, and keep it off the record? Entertainment tourney, which tries out new things within the game, and with a decent price pool for those invited to join (to actually live of the competiton).
One time i saw the stream on my homepage, i checked it, Maister using sora, loses. Another time i checked the stream, Maister using cloud, also loses.
There are certainly more negatives than positives. I am still glad they ran the event. I think if it was two days it would of helped a bit.
I think best of 5 for the whole thing would have been better as well. I'm a huge Leo fan and was anticipating his Roy being even better than it was at Diamond Dust and was sad to see his Byleth lose not only to Tweek again but to Tweek's Sephiroth. That definitely felt more like a friendly than a rivalry.
Leo felt unsafe from the Bo3 to bring out the Boy.
When sonix is on screen, I reckon at least 50% of viewers tune out. And the 50% that stay will tune out next time he's on. He's killed tournaments like this so maybe it's lucky there's no more summit
Luminosity, who runs the ranking system, hosting an event where 40% of the entrants (that they chose) are people that they sponsor, and making this event count for rankings is pretty weird to me
They wanted to get Zomba and Sparg0 to this event, but they wanted to do their own thing.
@@justice8718 regardless, all of luminosity’s players would have attended
It’s an invitational… for smash. There’s absolutely 0 money involved and you all want hella production, more people which would cost them more money. Right there is enough said. The text indicators in the grand finals and stuff would’ve been more helpful but people comparing to summit is CRAZY considering the audience hated the pay 2 go voting system. These are way different.
Definitely would have been better as best of 5, but I thought it was cool with Dabuz getting some really good wins, and getting to root for Marss and Hbox, and of course Shadic vs Sonix.
Hopefully every1 tunes into Game is Game. If I remember correctly, it's happening now, right? Or around this timeframe?
I was busy the entire day. Didn’t watch the event and didn’t even realize it had happened till I checked Twitter after the event was already over LMAO. Idc about the players invited it was just poorly marketing and only 10 players with no way to qualify is wild
This video came out FAST lol
The critizisms are valid, but in my opinion the smash community complains way too much, we take a lot for granted, the game is still fun to play and watch even with ups and downs.
One idea I had is a competitive pokemon inspired usage format, which consists of Uber, OU, UU, etc. Basically, there'd be a format where the statistically more unused characters would be the only ones allowed, down to maybe 1/2 - 1/3 of the roster.
Big ups to you for keeping it real
Smash Ultimate is generational ass right now. We need to be saved with another game. This tournament was bad. However, Shadic is The One :D really good shit Shadic.
I also wasn't too invested in the tournament.
I do think that it being a major is fine because it keeps consistency with how every invitational/event is ranked.
it did feel similar to Tokyo boot camp which was unranked, but ig there's always the occasional weird event that holds value
for me the matches in top 4 were kinda boring to watch but I'm glad that EE killed it with the commentary (in the good sense). Also I felt the same thing with the blue layout making it worse.
As for the content creators, I don't know who told this but hbox replaced zomba because at the end he couldn't go and I had faith in Marss as his pool looked really good: he had an insane record against maister, zzs does really good against corrin on paper, zss is thought to do good against sonic although I don't think it's that good and I strongly favoured riddles against him but if he played really lame he could have standed a chance (and he put up a fight).
The fact that leo got matched straight into riddles for 7th, tweek did go seph against everyone but dabuz (who is the only person I would have brought the seph against) and got 7th as well, and marss didn't get out of pools made it a lot worse for everyone as well imo.
The highlight for me was marss thinking it was monday when he fought hbox lol
This is stupid. You should be encouraging this. It’s great for the players, and a big sponsor in Kroger is really good for the scene. Yes it deserves criticism, but it should be looked at as a step in the right direction. Hbox saved the event. It was meant to be Zomba, but he had conflicts. The tournament couldn’t have proceeded without someone filling the spot. Videos like this are bad for the scene and the players who already don’t get payed enough.
I have not watched much of the video yet but no you are 100% correct they announced the tournament with a April 1st MKLeo is leaving video most people are not going to watch it because they know it is a joke so they know what the video is about but they for some reason wanted to announce a big tournament inside of that troll video when people like me and you are not going to watch it ... just really bad ... the ONLY reason I knew about the tournament is because I watched Lights Out podcast
I feel another thing that bothered my experience if the event was the lack of try from Leo and tweek with their character choices the whole event
I think the flame of ultimate has been on its way out for awhile, and seeing the same players, the same characters, the same top tiers, the same sets, all crammed into a very monotonous package gets really draining, even the commentators were checked out by the end, they don't know what to say anymore.
We need either a complete shakeup of the ruleset, or a new smash game bc wow the game could use it.
Even Smash 4 had a better late-game competitive scene than this! And Ultimate is seeing JeJaJeJa win tournaments with Kirby!
@@GlitchanBlack🤨 not it has not.. the top reps of the game just happened to play gnw, corrin, sonic or rosa. This tournament which is better then cheesy samus that kills at 15% and bayo that carries noobs..
It was boring RIGHT UP 'TIL THE END LET'S GO SHADIC!
If they didn't have enough time to run a two or three day event, they should have waited until they could instead of springing something this underwhelming. I look to Watch The Throne as a much better-executed non-Summit invitational
it was really boring for me with marss getting knocked out early
the lack of international talent just made this so not fun to watch.
And hungry box shouldn't have been there as a participant he should have been there as support like commentary and etc but not in bracket lol
It’s believed he was there last minute because Zomba couldn’t make it. It’s possible the event couldn’t have happened with him so playing devils advocate.
I’m kinda sick of generic word character #8 and people pretending it’s hype, so it made me tune out
What character??
Agreed with most things said I was at the tourney in person even the players there said the tournament was wack and some were even joking about the subpar commentary to wanting leave before tourney even ends 😂 it really didn't get good and hype until shadic won in the end
I think a lot more effort and actually planning could have been put into it for the spectators and to the viewers online you would think something exclusive like this would actually be exclusive and shown more effort
the one tourney i didn’t watch, Im glad i didn’t watch.
Smash isn't a viable career path.
Obviously
THIS GAME NEEDS CHARACTER BANS SO BAD HOLY
That would make things interesting 👀
No it doesn't lol
@@nikkobird590 do you have a real reason or is it “just get good”
@@armandperez711 there isn't anything a character that is affecting the game to the point where they need to be banned.

I liked it, it was nothing crazy, but we got some nice close sets with Sonic and Marss, Leo playing Byleth, Tweek Trolling with Seph, Dabuz somehow beating Light, and Shadic with the reversal and patience against Sonix. Only thing I don’t understand is why was it not best of 5. That was just stupid. Also I think there was barely hype for this because all the invited players we’re not that unique, they we’re all expected to be there except Marss and Hbox, but both did not play well at all so that was a bummer. I would have definitely liked more side-event type of deal too like the Thug match with Marss and Hbox, maybe a Roy Ditto Money Match with Sonix and Mkleo or anything to not make the event feel so short. There was barely anytime to build anticipation.
