【バッハ巡礼の旅】ケーテン 1717-1723

バッハは1717年から1723年までケーテンで宮廷楽長を務め、レオポルト侯のもとで多くの世俗音楽を作曲しました。この時期は教会音楽の作曲は必要なく、彼は主に世俗音楽に専念しましたが、年に2回、教会カンタータも演奏されました。1720年、レオポルド侯とカールスバートへの旅行に出かけましたが戻ってきたときには妻は埋葬された後でした。翌年に宮廷歌手アンナ・マクダレーナと再婚しました。
バッハの演奏でも特に即興演奏は、当時聖カタリナ教会オルガニストだったラインケンや市参事会員、市の有力者たちを含む聴衆を驚かせた。バッハはこの時、コラール『バビロンの川のほとりにて』の主題に基づいて即興演奏を行い、聴衆を熱狂させた。この動画の冒頭で使用しています。
そして、厳格なことで知られるラインケンは次のような賛辞を送っている。
「私は、この芸術は死に絶えたと思っておりましたが、今それがあなたの中に生きているのを目のあたりにしました。」

この時代、長男フリーデマンの為の音楽帳を作っています。
領主、レオポルト公（1694-1728）は1715年から1728年まで在位し、1717年にヨハン・セバスティアン・バッハを宮廷指揮者としてケーテンに招いた。1718年にはケーテン城に図書館を設立し、1723年にはケーテンに孤児院を開設した。レオポルトはブルク通りを改築し、ウォール通りを新しく整備させ、そこにバッハの家を提供した。レオポルト公は死後、聖ヤコブ教会の地下墓地に埋葬された。
