To have scrapped this is practically a crime. This is like, *the* best song in EarthBound/Mother 2. And the softer tone is no reason to have passed on it IMO; there are plenty of softer tracks like this in Smash as is (like Calling to the Night in Brawl for instance). To say nothing of the fact that Smash isn't a fighting game in the traditional sense--it IS competitive, but the oddball character of the gameplay lends itself well to all sorts of sounds, not just intense/actiony type stuff! But I digress...I'm sad this track just never gets the love it deserves. lol

The fact that numerous Mother tracks were remade to such a high quality and then left out of the game on purpose, (but not in the data, those sneaky Japanese at NOJ) suggests that Nintendo of Japan was actually going to acknowledge EarthBound and Mother a lot more than what happened. Maybe NOA was trying to suppress that?
i dont understand why people upload music from the mother 1+2 album and just call it unused brawl music. it was never going to be used in brawl. its from the album that was released alongside the GBA port of mother 1 and 2

No different than having Route 209 for Spear Pillar. There should have been more music from this series regardless of whether it's "fighting music" or not just so they can represent the Mother/Earthbound games more appropriately in the Smash Bros. games (and to people who enjoy good music overall).
The instrument used primarily in this song is probably a French horn. It sounds sort of trombonish, but with more of a royal echo, if I had to describe it as something.
