+Mswordx23 That's EXACTLY what it's about. Giygas receiving love from his Mother, Maria, and his father, George, but being brainwashed by the rest of his kind and losing his ability to love. Being forced to fight against the people whom he loved, he slowly went insane from guilt. Yet Ness and his friends are able to persevere and beat him because of the love they have from the people who care about them - with Ness, it's his mother and sister. With Paula, it's Everdred and all the children at the preschool. For Jeff, it's Tony and his friends at Winters. For Poo, it's his family as well. They are able to overtake Giygas when Paula prays and reaches out to everyone, but also to YOU, since you've come to love your companions. And finally, in the final battle, Lucas's love for his brother leaves him unable to attack Claus, Flint's love has him take a hit to protect his son, and Hinawa's love enables her voice to reach Claus from beyond death and bring him to his senses. Claus, finally remembering his love for his brother, ends his own life so as to not leave Lucas with the burden of killing him.

Ultimately, when Magicant faded away, she could rest easy knowing that her enduring love lived on through Ninten, his friends, and the efforts they made to protect what they cared for. It took nearly a century, but love ultimately won with this song.
I finished this series this year just before my friend died. I'm glad I can think of her in the context of this series. It will hold a special place in my heart forever, probably.
I am 31 years old. Every time I listen to this masterpiece of a song, I remember the calming fragrance of my mother when she was embracing me as a child, comforting from the cruelty of the outside world. Then it comes to my mind, that everything truly is connected. Like her, our beautiful planet we call Earth, also protects us and nourishes us like our mother, protecting us from the deadly cosmic radiation, and provides us with the safe haven of nature. We owe to Earth, as much as we owe to our mother, because both are very common as a concept, so we have to return the protection back to them, and care as much as we can.
Me too. I experience that feeling a lot. Most of the time, it makes you feel depressed, like you could have done something much different with yourself.
SlickClawVideoProductions No, I wouldn't say that (at least personally.) I don't regret what I am now, but these songs make me want to go back...for no other reason than to take a look.
We are here, and then we are not. Our life seems to end from start to finish in the blink of an eye. From the moment we are born, we are destined to die. The moment we die is the moment when everything we did, the good, the bad, the ugly, and so on, is all lost, and from there we pass away. In this case, life seems like it should be followed on just a simple, straightforward path, from start to finish, because what is the point of doing anything special when someone dies, and why would anyone remember me anyway? But, what people don't realize is that it's not about what you did and how it affected you and how you feel about it, but about how it affects others and how your actions and words changed or influenced them. Sure, you can follow the straightforward path, but why not take the risk, break away from the path, and make yourself a long, winding road. One with more obstacles, challenges, regrets, hardships, and loss, but one with more happiness, joy, kindness, and respect, and in the end, you will be remembered by people as one who has gone down the harder path of life, and succeeded in doing so. One of those men who took that path is Satoru Iwata. The one who made the Mother series from scratch, the one who kept Smash Bros. alive and provided help to Sakurai, the one who cut his salary in half because of his console failing just so he doesn't have to fire anyone. The one who provided us with all these magnificent, memorable games that we collect, play, and cherish for the memories they have given us. To Nintendo, to his family, to his friends, colleagues, and so on. To everyone in the gaming community, no matter who you are. Just remember. Remember him for what he has done for all of us, laugh over it, cry over it, understand it. Take all of it, and let us engrave in our hearts, that his legacy, his greatness, his generosity, will not be forgotten, and that we will continue on, carrying the torch that is our will so that all of us will prosper and be happy, just how he would want us to be. May we never forget this legend in gaming. Godspeed, Satoru Iwata... Rest in peace.
Mine and my friends, and to those I haven't met, I know they played a role in saving the world I know. Even if it began with a lamp, or ended with a needle or something, I know that there were people out there to save the earth just like me. Once I stopped Giygas for good, I felt like a new person... I felt like a kid, truly as I am. As my thoughts display on these cave walls one last time, I would like to thank you. Yes, the player, for leading us on this journey. A journey to peace and love, of melodies and friendship, and sweet harmony. I must go now, my mom is wondering where I am. Thank you all for making me the person I am, and helping others in the past, present, and future. My name is Ness, and this is the ending of my world's story on a bittersweet note...
I used this exact URL to at this song for my dearly departed dog, for fourteen years and now, tonight I am playing the same file for my 10 week old puppy... They both loved/love this song, thank you for uploading so long ago
tried to sing this for kids at a daycare several times they always laughed at me and made me stop. However about 2 weeks before I left a small group of them finally let me finish the first verse and realized and they admitted I wasen't a bad singer. I hope they remember that as they get older. That if you give people a chance to shine you might be surprised what happens.
I still can't believe the impact that Mother had in the industry, yet, a lot of people only know of the series as just the: kid with psi powers in Smash Brothers. Which is a damn shame knowing how the series have outstanding soundtrack and lore. Anyway, if there are still people that care about Earthbound. *i salute you*
Its strange for me to think, the first ever content I consumed as a kid when I got my ipod years ago was this. The emotion of this song has always remained strong every time I return to it I aspire to make something that even holds a candle to it
"Take a melody, give us Mother 3 We want it now please, ain't japanese Raise your voices all day long now, love grows strong now Give us Mother 3 please, oh please!"
The only thing I dont like is Lucas's brother I forget his name and his mother died and ness wasn't there it would be nice if lucas and ness actually met.
+Bryan Encarnacion His name is Claus. Also, if you know the whole story of the game, you would know that it is practically impossible for Ness and Lucas to meet each other.
Johotendo I know mother 3 took place 100 century's later but I was really happy to play until I found out ness wasn't in the game so I was very disappointed
Bryan Encarnacion Ninten wasn't in EarthBound so why should Ness be in Mother 3? Every character has his own part in the story and they don't need to meet. At least they are both in Smash.
Imagine being a Mother 1 veteran, in the final room of Earthbound (Mother 2), expecting to see the catlike alien you fought as Ninten the first time around, only to be greeted with what can only be described as the embodiment of raw evil.
There is a pureness and innocence about this version of the song that perfectly captures the character of the Mother series. Although we all know harmony can be deceiving at times...
A song that even if you don't know where it's from, can melt the cold heart of those willing to listen. We all need to learn to believe, to laugh, to cry, to love. Everyone's so angry at everyone they all forget...nothing specific, just...forget. If you have a friend who is sad, or depressed, or going through rough times. Show them this video. Have them listen to it, and really listen to the lyrics. Even as I type this my eyes quiver as if I'm about to cry. And that's ok...
For Pete's sake, Mother 3 has already been beautifully translated by a team of enthusiasts. Grab the ROM, grab an emulator and play it already. You won't ever get a better version.

I was a road trip through Scotland once and this song came up just as we entered the Highlands. The hills were so green, with purple splashes of heather at the roadside, and the peaks vanished into the low-hanging clouds. Maybe one of the most beautiful moments of my life.

Mother 1 has its problems but the team that worked on the project really tried a lot, with story writing and extra effort when composing their music making this title as good as the other 2 mother games in that aspect, I love this game with my heart and it's my favorite of the trilogy
I can't even really say exactly why, but this game's flaws just fall away during scenes like the dance party at the club, E.V.E. reassuring Ninten and crew that she is charged with protecting them, Ninten and Ana's dance on the summit...
@@tatertot64 honestly I just said that this game has problems because everyone says that, I played it a lot of times and I play around doing things like, trying to destroy the "invincible" bosses of the game. I have such a good time with Mother 1 that it hurts to see people saying this game is fundamentally broken. Seriously, this game is good and compared to other rpg's of the time, it's very good. (and in the end the game is really more story driven so i think thats why)
@@Sómaisoutrotrevo9324 I personally think people blow this game's biggest issues out of proportion. Encounters are a bit frequent at times, but it's not game-breaking like some people act. It's a shame that, for a decent amount of people, this game's flaws will prevent them from enjoying it. I guess that's what things like the Easy Ring in the fan-translation are for, but good grief that item makes the game a friggin cakewalk.
@@tatertot64 YES seriously, I don't know how people can talk so badly about this game, is not difficult. Frequent battles are a little irritating, but nothing to worry about. the only problem i see in this game is that there are times (as i remember only at the beginning) when you go a long way only to find you had nothing. but this again is circumvented with the ninten run)
I think a lot of the gripes about mother kind of just stem from being the first of the series and a thirty year old game. I think what happens is most people play Earthbound first cause its the more popular game and by the time they move on to mother they're used to the overworld sprite enemies and the rolling health/pp counters.
Take a melody… Simple as can be… Give it some words… and… Sweet harmony… Raise your voices… All day long, now, love grows strong now… Sing a melody of love… oh, love…
If a studio were to make an animated film of a Mother game, I'd want it to be Mother 1. It's shorter than Earthbound and its story is pretty similar but more fleshed out.
We’ve lost one Nintendo figure, Mr. Iwata, bless his heart and soul, and now we’ve lost another. Desmond Amofah, or Etika, he.... changed more lives then he’ll ever know. He changed mine, and he likely changed yours in some way, wether it was through memes or his actual content. He was a huge advocate for all things Nintendo, and he brought the community together more than once. Rest In Peace with Mr. Iwata, Desmond. Give him a hug from the entire Nintendo Community.
Thank you, Nintendo, for bringing about one of the most sensational and magnificent RPG series that's ever been made. That, of course, being the Mother series.
If I saw a trailer of a Mother remake with all 3 games for a US release with this exact music playing i swear on my autopsy report it'll read "cause of death: intense feels"
This song. This song...! I cried when I heard this... And you don't see me cry much, plus it got me into le Mother series. Sure I didn't know were it was from but still... But I hope you rest with all the joys in any heaven Iwata, you were a great man, with a great legacy.
these games are something you either understand or you don't, and i feel like just being told the story or watching somebody else play it doesn't do it justice you don't just play the game, it's an experience like no other, and i feel like this song captures that feeling exceptionally well
This song becomes more sad and depressing once you know the fact that Mary used to sing this song for Giygas who is the most broken and hurt villain from MOTHER... 🙁💔🖤
I literally have known and loved the Earthbound/Mother franchise since I was 8 years old. This song (and the Eight Melodies music in game) is just so beautiful. I literally almost cried listening to this and the Pollyanna song sung by Catherine Warwick (that I listen to everday btw) because of all the childhood memories and nostalgia that flood my brain whenever I listen to them. Bein' Friends is such a innocent and beautiful song that I listen to daily as well. Actually, whenever I listen to Earthbound music, I get so overwhelmed with nostalgia and childhood memories of me playing this game (and still playing it, never beat Earthbound 😅). The Earthbound/Mother franchise has such beautiful music and has such wonderful humor and characters and plot and everything that the fact that this game is SO underrated and under appreciated here in America just baffles me. Why is this franchise so beautiful? And why does it constantly leave me in tears?
interesting how the main antagonist of the mother series are persons lacking in one aspect that at least i, belive its what is all about this series, love giegue, he had love, but he didn't appreciate it enough, so he became a monster that couldn't any longer feel, a monster drowned in his own guilt, sadness, etc. while porky laking both love from a family and a friend, ended as a brat that evolved from bein annoying to a problem to a dictator that is ready to destroy the whole world and even itself only to see all the people that disliked him die
Mr Boi He became the embodiment of Giegue wrath. He Giegue ended up erasing to much of his own memory, becoming a soulless monster. All in the sake for his own race of people and for his actual purpose. The scariest part is how the moral of the stories tie into the world of our own people on Earth. It also connects with Christianity (I'm not religious, but it does). Weird how Japanese created a unique story tying into the religion of one they don't hold belief on. I'd write more, but it would turn into a story.
Teacher: what does those damn video games teach you Me an intellectual: Earthbound tells you about love and friendship, minecraft tells you to be creative, smash bros tells you to fight to the end, and among us tells us that we cant trust nobody.
Super Mario taught us to be the star (Mario) that shines against the darkness (Bowser) Legend of Zelda taught us to master the acts of courage, wisdom, and power. Metroid taught us how to conquer fears by ourselves. Kirby taught us you can be anything once you set your mind to it.
This song alone made me want to play the game finally. You can have no context and feel emotionally touched by just how beautiful the conveyed feelings are. The game itself is quirky, has Alien forces that make the neighbourhood dangerous and the only ones capable of withstanding and awakening powers of the heart are some special children who simply had the feeling of that they can make a change for it all. It's whimsical and I'm all there for it. =3
When you think about it, this series is all about love. And those who understand it, and those who don't.

We owe to Earth, as much as we owe to our mother, because both are very common as a concept, so we have to return the protection back to them, and care as much as we can.
Reminds me of being young. Can't say I either like or dislike that feeling, but it's a powerful one.

BRO WHAT IS GOOD
We are here, and then we are not.

Thank you all for making me the person I am, and helping others in the past, present, and future.

in the end it were a simple song his mother would sing him as a child which would defeat Giygas. This game could greatly benefit from a remake.
The nostalgia is strong with this one.
A STRONG ONE indeed
I'm not crying, just sweating from my eyes
tried to sing this for kids at a daycare several times they always laughed at me and made me stop. However about 2 weeks before I left a small group of them finally let me finish the first verse and realized and they admitted I wasen't a bad singer. I hope they remember that as they get older. That if you give people a chance to shine you might be surprised what happens.
Almost like Giygas at the end of the first game, it is really nice that you eventually got your song out
this is a great message! 😁😁😁
Yeah trying to sing it for kids above the kindergarten level will get you laughed at.
This better play at Iwata's funeral.
Even though it's from Mother, not Mother 2, it still feels right.
If this was played at Iwata-san's funeral, everybody started crying, probably.

Its strange for me to think, the first ever content I consumed as a kid when I got my ipod years ago was this. The emotion of this song has always remained strong every time I return to it
I aspire to make something that even holds a candle to it
"Take a melody, give us Mother 3
We want it now please, ain't japanese
Raise your voices all day long now, love grows strong now
Give us Mother 3 please, oh please!"
Bryan Encarnacion
Ninten wasn't in EarthBound so why should Ness be in Mother 3? Every character has his own part in the story and they don't need to meet. At least they are both in Smash.
Johotendo yeah but it makes no sense in brawl how ness saved lucas if they dont know eachother I know its something nice but still.
Rest in piece, Mr. Iwata.

Been nearly 5 years since Iwata's passing, but it feels like only yesterday when I heard the news. Rest easy, Iwata-san.

Because the mother series is one of the greatest pieces of art, period. If anything, mother proves that video games can be fine art.
Since some years ago, this is the first song I listen on New Year Midnight. What a beautiful way to start a year
I felt my sins was washed away by this sacred melody.

giegue, he had love, but he didn't appreciate it enough, so he became a monster that couldn't any longer feel, a monster drowned in his own guilt, sadness, etc.
while porky laking both love from a family and a friend, ended as a brat that evolved from bein annoying to a problem to a dictator that is ready to destroy the whole world and even itself only to see all the people that disliked him die
Mr Boi He became the embodiment of Giegue wrath. He
Giegue ended up erasing to much of his own memory, becoming a soulless monster.
It's so pretty.. gives you chills doesn't it? It's a good reflection of how good the series is.
I'm so glad this is back online ! I love that song a lot !

Get a connection, you will love it
Teacher: what does those damn video games teach you
Me an intellectual: Earthbound tells you about love and friendship, minecraft tells you to be creative, smash bros tells you to fight to the end, and among us tells us that we cant trust nobody.
wRoNg1!tHeY tEaChEd yUo nUtHinG!1!1
Super Mario taught us to be the star (Mario) that shines against the darkness (Bowser)
Legend of Zelda taught us to master the acts of courage, wisdom, and power.
I have never played this game or seen it being played in my entire life, but I still get the feels everytime
A masterpiece till this day.
