The clearances didn't just happen in the Highlands. It happened all over Great Britain - it was the Aristocrats and rich landowners - mostly descended from the Normans - who decided they wanted more land to 'develop'. So what was easier than taking 'common land' from the peasants? Too many still blame 'the English' - it wasn't. We should all be demanding reparations!
