It was actually wild though. I was just saying id forgotten all about Jerry Jackson cartoons like it was a fever dream of my youth. Then hearing you do that voice again as a 30 year old made a big smile creep across my face.
That’s exactly what David got inspiration from, he would get hate mail by someone who could never spell, never used commas or periods, used random capital words.. then created jerry Jackson, based off of him
I'm laughing because I never realized how recognizable David Firth's voice actually is. I guess it's because I've never heard him outside of his own work lmao
With all these old Newgrounds folks the whole show feels like a fever dream of my entire childhood. It's really good to see/hear a lot of these voices again. I forgot almost entirely about Jerry Jackson but as soon as I heard David Firth this huge smile crept across my face.
So true. I was just thinking the other day how far Zach has come from his first Mario animation on new ground to having his own show on adult swim. What an accomplishment!
@Ahmed Malaki it really is a breath of fresh air for Adult Swim too. I feel like I haven't been all that interested in the more recent years ever since like the last season of Aqua Teen.
I want to see a clip of Charlie saying “You look like you’re about to tell your friend not to come to school tomorrow.” I’m honestly surprised nobody’s done it by now.
I never expected Jerry Jackson to star in an Adult Swim show. Good thing because he hasn’t uploaded any new animations for a while and I was nervous for him.
I think the cool thing is that the whole episode is about Charlie trying to change Shrimp to be "better," but Shrimp got a beautiful girlfriend at the end just by being himself. And there's nothing wrong with that, because he was never toxic or a bad person, like a neckbeard or a misogynist or just an asshole. The only thing he really needed to change was to let go of Shrimpeena. A strangely wholesome message for an Adult Swim cartoon. Actually, this show as a whole is oddly heartwarming for Adult Swim.
I was skimming through these comments to see if anyone would share more serious thoughts and it was definitely worth it to read this. I recently went through what shrimp is feeling and honestly still am, so this episode despite its humor really speaks to me on an emotional level.
Here's my take, Shrimps Mouse Quest obsession started off normal but after the break-up a fun past time hobby became an unhealthy coping mechanism. Charlie never told him to stop playing video games just to get his life in order. Shrimp never objects to anything Charlie puts him through, so he DID wanna change. (especially if it meant getting Shrimpina back) But just as it seems like he's doomed to be alone forever he meets Jennifer & goes for broke asking if she likes Mouse Quest. A relationship with someone won't always work out perfectly but that doesn't mean you should stop trying.
Hearing David's voice hurt my brain, I'm so used to his surrealist animations and to hear him come up in smiling friends - a comedy animation featuring Michael and Zach - god damn that actually hurts my brain that all 3 of them are in a show together.
God I hope Shrimp goes on to be a prominent secondary character in future seasons. David Firth has some of the most hilarious line delivery I’ve ever heard from a voice actor. It’s been two years since the last episode of Jerry Jackson, so this cameo filled the hole in my heart left by the absence of Jerry Jackson.
