I've had the Z flip 4 for 2 weeks now and I def agree with you about the random Wifi issues, weird video ratio, and the dust! OMG its a dust magnet i'll take your advice about getting a dust plug. And I legit travel with a dust cloth now too lol.. But regardless I am happy I upgraded, coming from the galaxy S20. The Z Flip4 is super fast, portable and ohh soo fun to use. I’ve had mine for a week now. I did not have any wifi issues I could speak of but the dust problem… oh my, it’s like the phone’s a dust magnet on purpose. But I think the dust-proof issue’s not necesessarily related to the charging port, but the hinge of the clamshell. Still, the dust plug is not a bad thing to use, I’ve got one for my other phone as well, but I think Samsung refers to the hinge not being dust proof and unfortunately, there is not really anything one can do about that.
It is interesting to hear other people's experiences. I have not had any wifi issues and I wander all around my property streaming music. I also haven't had any overheating problems but I don't do any gaming or anything more intensive than youtube videos to generate heat. Apparently, I also do not use my phone to the same extent as most as I always have 25% or more battery after an average 18-hour day. It does collect dust, probably just because it gets trapped in the clamshell. The aspect ratio is unusual but anyone buying the phone should recognize that as well as the crease which I never notice. The other thing that wasn't mentioned is the lack of a telephoto lens. In the end, I am very happy with the phone.
Just bumped into this review in my search for ZFlip5 (not yet out) info! Interesting review! I have my own gripes with my ++quite good++ Z-Flip4 5G, but not yours. . . . .#1) never had wifi issues with Z-Flip -it just works & is as fast and as steady as my desktop/laptop on my home wifi. #2) over-heating. Yes it can get warm. When I run Android Auto for 4 hours of driving & using maps, Pandora, BandCamp, or even google voice for questions,. it gets warm -but not hot. I have Samsung's great leather case I never could not pick up or use the phone. It never overheated. #3. Never botherd with a port protector. In the past I worried about water, but not so much with this phone. Not so dust--focused.#4 YES, you are right that Z-Flip main screen is a fingerprint magnet. Also, the screen is NOT as nice/crisp/sharp as any "real" Galaxy-S series! If one wants sharp & crip screens then skip any foldable. #5 Cameras are terrible. I hate them. They are a step down from any Galaxy-S even worse than my old Galaxy S2 years ago. Just not good: Period. #6 Battery life on my ZFlip 4 is ok, not super. Of course, 2 smaller batteries can't be compared against one larger S9 battery, but in more than 8 months, I only ran out of juice 1x (at about 8pm) and I am a busy/active (but not constant) phone user for email, youtube, music and even astronomy apps! #7 Crease is there and I think always noticable, but I don't care -if a crease is an issue, then this phone is not for you. . . . I Love the size, the "pocketability," the safety with the main screen-on-screen protection when it is closed (If I drop it I really don't worry (that might change with ZFlip5!)) I love its reliability & build quality. I just tried the new "best flip phone" the razr+ and after 24 hours returned it because it lacks software depth offered by one-ui, and wasn't as customizable as any Samsung one-ui phone, also I felt that the hardware quality did not seem to me to be as good. I have had my phone for several weeks. I received it a few days before official release date. I have zero wifi issues, no issues with dust. The phone is fast and responsive. The battery life is acceptable for me. The phone charges fast up to 50 percent in 30 minutes making battery life a non issue for me. The crease does not bother me may be issue for gamers though. I love the folding phone the way you can slide it in your pocket, and great for small purses, so its worth it to me. As for the videos yes ratio is different but wow the clarity and color is fantastic as is the sound. I think it's just personal preferences on most issues. If you keep your phone optimized heating issues go away at least they did for me.
I don't think it was necessarily overheating when you first set it up just rather it was getting warm while you were transferring your data, apps updating in the background and charging. Even my s22 ultra got warm during this process. The wifi issue might just be a software bug, sadly this is one of the cons buying a new phone on release so hopefully a few firmware updates fixes that (personally I haven't experienced this on my flip) I think the gummy screen protector Samsung uses on the inside collects dust, hopefully they use a better material in the future. Another thing I have noticed that helps with battery is turning on light mode in the battery settings which for me I haven't noticed any impact to performance while using. I have actually been getting better battery life on my flip then my s22 ultra which is odd.
Hi sharkbait, just to clarify my Z Flip4 got very hot during the transfer and still does get pretty warm daily, especially when watching videos or multitasking with multiple apps open but this hasn't caused any functionality issues or anything yet. And thanks for sharing 😊. I'll def try the light mode I'm glad to hear it doesn't impact performance much.
@@AbbyBReviewing odd mine only tends to get warm when charging. Its actually a bit cooler then my s22 ultra. But I have heard that these new Snapdragon chips run pretty warm in general. I think the worst one I have seen is in the Oneplus 10 pro. I think my only complaint about this phone is the gummy screen protector holds dust on the main screen and its a fingerprint nightmare. Hopefully Samsung pushes out an update soon to fix the little bugs (being an early adopter is fun lol). Light mode has been great for me, I also set up a Bixby routine where it turns on power saving mode every time the phone is folded and then it turns off when opened. Really enjoying the compact size compared to the brick the s22 ultra is lol.

Doing research into the pros and cons of this phone. My husband works landscaping around all types of dirt like substances and liquid materials. I have a problem with the signal on my z flip 4 I've noticed on 5g/4g the signal is low but when I change the setting to 3g only the signal doubles so I have 4 bars
Wow I have ZFLIP3 and it seems ZFLIP4 has all the issues of the ZFLIP3. My HUGE con on ZFLIP3 is BATTERY 🔋 Life SUCKS!!. I have it on dark settings, 60gz screen, no widgets and if I get 5hr battery it's a lot. I end up switching back to my old s20 battery on s20 is fabulous!! Lastly yes don't be fool when say you don't feel the crease you do and the screen sensitivity in that area is bad.
Ive had my flip for less than a month and I'm having a hard time keeping my connection. I am returning it and I've got a galaxy z fold 4 coming instead. I hope it works better!
My flip 4 not only attracts dust but also cat and dog hair, its the only thing that i found really annoying. I love the aspect ratio since i tried it on the store, i have small hands 😬
Hi Ioan Tamasescu, it's 7 hours total with my normal usage (ex. many calls, texts, UA-cam videos, taking photos, playing games, web browsing etc.). Adversely, with lighter usage and less SOT usually lasts me at least 12 hours.
@@ioantamasescu8894 I will say if the battery perfromance profile is turned to Light (prioritises battery life & cooling) instead of the default Standard (prioritizes speed & efficiency) it does last longer. Also, I did use standard for the 7 hour result mentioned in the video.
It's good that you are making a video highlighting things that don't work for you. Personally, I traded my S22 Ultra for the compact Flip 4 primarily because I am a basic user- texts, calls, UA-cam (watching and uploading) and emails- and for me, it's a great phone. The battery life is interesting because the first 30-40% will die quickly but I find the last 60-70% can last MUCH longer. I don't know if that's just my phone, but it is definitely something I notice. All of your other cons are valid, but I must say, it hasn't been the case for me or my phone. When it comes to the crease, I tend to be annoyed by it at night, laying in a dark room, scrolling through UA-cam videos lol the crease looks darker than the rest of the screen for some reason (possibly the angle) but during the day and other positions, the crease really isn't noticeable to me. I only write this as an average user for others to read 😃
Lol I said the exact same thing but with all the problems that you may go through in time wait I'm not saying it will happen but folding phones does come with it's defects in time you might be one of the lucky ones who doesn't have to deal with it but I said the same thing but I just couldn't do it lol.
@yourmomprobably9104 first of all hi, i just want to address that the zflip 4 is amazing in my opinion (good performance super smooth and everything) but it overheats and the battery drains fast. If you don't have problem with that then buy it but there's phones better than it and much cheaper🤷♀️
I gotta say, GOOD job! Honesty is appreciated...I feel this will be a good "detox" phone despite the cons. I was on my notes and fold ALL the time. I now have a VERY warm, regular s22. It's helped me NOT USE my gadget ALL the time (I feel the heat, time to get off). Despite the heat, it's ALWAYS performed without issue, except when the graphics are maxxed, playing CoD. I must tone them down to play longer than a couple of matches. I expect the same with this phone. I'll miss the awesome s22 camera, but my bespoke flip4 (blue/red/silver) just shipped out :-) It'll be pretty to look at CLOSED.

That's why i rarely believe those so called reviewers. Most of them just like the freebies they get so they hype it up. Never mentioning the negative or cons. I can't even count how many tech reviewers are praising the "dynamic island, always on display" on the new iphone like it was the apex of innovation. Oh and how "amazing" the new cameras are. Amazing. Yet when they compare the picture taken with the new iphone and the previous model it's hard to tel em apart. But it's Amazing.
I’m trying to decide if I want the flip… I really like the form factor and the outer screen and just the general physicality of it really draws me in! But I’m hearing about the connection problem for the first time tonight plus the overheating and battery life :/ The one game I play is pokemon go so I need it to be able to last while I am out and about. So I’m wondering if there are just too many problems with performance to justify getting it even though I love it over all. Anyway I really appreciate the review!

It depends upon how strong your Wi-Fi is and what company you are using for your Wi-Fi or Internet. And also it depends on how many walls it has to go through to reach your device.
Hello, just to clarify I have the fastest Wi-Fi available from my provider, and no other phones or devices in my household regardless of the postion in the basement, middle floor or top floor have Wi-Fi connection or dropping issues only the Z Flip 4 does. So I don't think the Wi-Fi is the issue here.
Great video and I love your honesty :) it is great to know about the cons, and I agree as no one else has talked about cons in any of other videos i've watched which wss slightly annoying to me, since eberyone phone has one con or another. Hello, it's actually the screen protector the attracts dust the most. I switch my cases often (I have 3 other TPU/plastic non silicone ones) and the dust issue stays the same. And you are brave I could never use my phones "naked" lol.
I don't face any heating issues with my flip... Have it for a couple of weeks now.. The battery lasts me more than a day with heavy use and 2 Bluetooth devices connected, I just keep it on 60hrz.. Don't need 120 all the time... The screen aspect ratio I agree is slightly different and takes getting used to but then I prefer thin phones as they are easier to hold.. For me this size is perfect... Crease is a non issue for me... Yes dust does collect a lot, and I keep wiping it but then it's a foldable, so something you can expect.. My main gripe is you can't put a screen protector... Don't know if I should put one above the one it came with... As the continous wiping is leaving faint scratches on the protector...

I just (a week ago) traded my S22 Ultra for the Z-Flip 4, not looking back! The S22 was just way too big! Wouldn't fit in the wireless charger in my car. I had no use for the S-Pen. I don't watch anything more than the "Shorts" videos on UA-cam, anything more than that, I use my tablet. I do text frequently but it's mainly used as a PHONE... 😎... When was the last time you were on a landline for 7 hours.? I easily get a day and a half to two days on a charge. As far as the camera goes it's fine for the average user, I also have real cameras. I don't "game" on the Z-Flip either. Good video though thanks for sharing! 👍

Really interesting to see all Abbys reviews but also your comparrison to the S22 ultra as I'm currently trying to choose between these 2 phones. Currently using the pink S7 edge like Abby have just loved it but now want a bigger screen so I can watch movies and Netflix on and have always wanted an S Pen so was edging more towards the Ultra tbh but your now giving me food for thought re the size etc. The only thing is I'd find the wifi issues really annoying and worry the screens probs no bigger then my S7 edge.... urgh! It's going to be hard to decide!
@@nicstimetotalk I never had a issue with Wi-Fi, the S-Pen is kinda cool, I just didn't have a use for it. If it fits your car wireless charger, go for it plus the camera system is better... It just didn't fit MY needs.. 👍👍

Interesting review and your points noted. I've now been using the Flip 4 for nearly 3 weeks and can't say I've had WiFi or heating problems. Your point about dust ingress is noted and I may well get a plug. I agree the screen ratio takes a bit of getting used to but the advantage is that us smaller handed folk are less likely to drop the phone. Yes, battery life is a bit less than my Note 20 Ultra but I find it acceptable. As to the crease it's not noticeable when looking directly at the screen. Also I tend to use a stylus when possible so the indentation doesn't bother me. This phone's great advantage is the superb Snapdragon processor compared to the Note 20's Exynos! Also fingerprint and facial recognition actually work.

My z flip has had no overheating honestly, not even while I’m using it when charging. But my Wi-Fi does drop often at home and I have had one cat hair get stuck in the front screen. As far as battery life, play with settings that work for you and my phone lasts me pretty much all day. Don’t expect it to if you’re on your phone majority of the day tho (but I do scroll social media, watch videos and message/use calls regularly). Also, if you want this phone and think the crease will b an issue, don’t get it. It’s literally a flip phone
I bought this phone recently and i have to say I've not noticed any issues with the WiFi, and personally mine does not heat up, I did hear that people were saying this so I was a little conscious but mine doesn't heat up. Also I've never noticed any dust on my screen, I've had it for two weeks and used it without a case so far and haven't noticed any dust or crumbs like she was showing. I would have to agree with some of the other points she made though, the battery life does drain. You will have a fully charged phone at the start of the day and then come to the end it will be on 15%, which you don't usually expect of new phones.
Thank you for this video and the honesty! I have always been an apple person and I recently upgraded to the iPhone 14 pro max (I really like it) but I am in the market for a second phone for work. I saw so many videos saying how awesome this phone was and I was sold on the design because it is so cute and customizable, but some of the cons you pointed out are big deal breakers for me. The wifi issues would really defeat the purpose of a work phone for me since I am remote 90% of the time. While this is a super cute and novelty phone, I am going to wait until more major model upgrades are made on the phone before making a swap to Samsung.
I had mine for 2 weeks now. The wifi issue omg i also noticed it too it takes a while to connect, it doesnt disconnect tho but sometimes it slows down I jotice it when I chat someone in messenger. I Think why there's a lot of dust and stuff on the screen it's because it's plastic. I like the crease kinda like a fidget toy to me lol and it doesnt really bother me when playing or if I see it outside it just is you know. I used to have issues with the battery draining faster than my old phone but after a while i guess the adaptive battery got used to my usage (watching youtube social media, playing genshin) it got to a point where it doesn't go down faster it used to be 3-4 hrs usage (85% to 20%). The overheating issue yeah it kind aoverheats on the top half only I think it should be distributed to the whole phone

The Z Flip4 has some cons but, has way more pros in my opinion. I think it is worth the upgrade especially if your interested in foldables and looking for something new! But, I definitely recommend trying it out in store first with the test phones if possible or buying it from somewhere with a good return policy like Amazon or Samsung in case you dont like it. And depending where you live you could get a great trade in offer for the Z Flip 4 with the S21+ too.
Very good video! 👍 I also noticed this issue with WiFi which in my vade has happened perhaps 2-3 times in the two weeks I've had the flip4. Besides this i haven't noticed any overheating at all and the battery life is really good. Perhaps your unit due to the connection issues you're describing is constantly searching for a good connection and that's why your battery life isn't good and goes hot. Have you reached out to Samsung support about this?

I have zflip 4 for 6 weeks. I have not noticed wifi issue or heating problem. Try to go to setting battery more battery and change your performance profile to Light. Also turn off your haptic feedback. Off your touch vibration response off. This will get you few hours more battery with same speed. Actually I like this phone more than S22 ultra. Everyone has their preferences , so I respect your taste
Thanks for this ! I've had the z flip 4 for 3 weeks ans here are my takes on your issues 1. I have a French version and I have not noticed any issue on the WiFi speeds 2. I did have a overheating issue AT FIRST. But all i had to do was update the software and all the apps. After that I've never had that issue again. I game on the phone and it does heat a little but nothing too bad 3. Dust and lint ? I have not noticed that with or without a case haha 4/5/6 - I do agree with those but i accept them because I looooove the z flip 4. To me, those are tradeoffs I'm willing to make. The battery is honestly not that bad especially if you don't open your phone as often. Thank you for this video !! :)

Hi, what type of games are u playing? i kinda want to play a extremely competitive fps game that need a fast hand, in that case im going to make my finger nail touching the screen or maybe i press the screen a little too hard because when gaming sometimes im very focus so i didnt realise my finger nail or my hand press the screen
I have my very own Z Flip 4. The problem with the wifi, can be fixed by using stabilizers around the house(I never had that problem). Phones will overheat, which is something normal and ESPECIALLY if transferring things. For me personally, the dust from the screen itself can be easily gone with one wipe(with anytype of cloth), but I would agree with dust getting into the hinge, I'm sure that the dust buildup would have to be a lot for that to really happen. However, the battery is actually a typical battery ,because Samsung themselves have said "long-lasting 3700mAh (typical) battery" as well as the phone being a 8 hour long lasting phone, so you would be able to get that extra hour that you wanted. For the video viewing in UA-cam, thats a very normal, I've had that format for my previous phones as well, so I'm sure if that wouldn't be counted as a con(In my opinion). The crease "problem" is something that should be expected since the whole idea of the phone, is that it can flip. The reason that everyone says its "unnoticeable" is beacuse of the viewing aspect. No hate to this creator, I just don't want people confused about the information they see with this phone. :)

I just got my Z Flip 4 about 4 days ago and just updated to android 13. In my own experience, any phone will definitely heat up on the first day you turn it on and transfer files from your old device, other than that the phone never really got pretty hot just like my Pixel 6 and 6 Pro did. I've been using my Z Flip 4 to watch UA-cam videos using WiFi and data network 5G connectiom with TMobile with no issues at all it's really snappy and loads content pretty quick so not sure if it's just your device or your data connection. No drop connections on my end too, I definitely experienced dropping connections with my Pixel phones and iPhone 13 Pro Max. My only gripe would be the battery. Since I own a 13 Pro Max, I have been spoiled in not having to worry about my phone battery coz it's definitely a 2-day battery phone for me. But with Z Flip 4, I'd have carry around a charger or battery pack just to make sure it does not die on me when I'm out and about.
Hi Stormy, I'm actually working on a video for Z Flip 4 battery life extension tips which will be dropping soon :) so make sure to subscribe & turn on your post notifications (if you haven't already) to be notified when it drops! Also, when you turn on power saving mode it limits things such as background syncing and location checks to save battery life. This reduces the amount of times your emails are synched and reduces your email notifications as a result, leading to some being missed. One tip to extend battery life on your Z Flip 4 is to use manual brightness instead of auto brightness, and reduce your phones brightness to low when you can this helps extend battery life.
I've only noticed the crease in certain lighting conditions and angles. It doesn't really bother me. AND I di feel it when scrolling. Doesn't bother me.

I am retracting my praise for this phone's durability because recently I did drop mine from 4 feet because I set it down while on the toilet to listen to a video and it slide off the rail and landed onto hard tile floors. The case popped off (I'm returning this crappy cheap case) and the screen flickered and died. According to the phone repair place, the magnet that tells the phone it is "closed" go dislodged and my phone kept thinking it was closed and the fall also showed visible damage to the screen protector at the fold point as every time I opened and closed from then on, the crease was very noticeable Luckily I have the insurance and paid the deductible, which is about $100 to get a replacement. Not before paying extra to a phone repair place to reactivate the screen so I can transfer my stuff over. I've since bought a "better case" but the fact that my Flip 4 dropped at the "right" angle will utterly disable the screen is a problem for me and from a relatively short height.
Been waiting for a good flip phone again for portability when in my pocket. This time of day it seems I have to carry a lot more, and tend to have my pockets full. But I think I’ll wait till the five comes out
Although the crease can be considered a con, i think at this point its just something thats inherent in flip phones and is just something that has to be accepted. Also, what font are you using on your phone? i love it
Hi Antonio, I do agree, I mainly wanted to point out that there hasn't been a noticable upgrade in the crease compared to the Z Flip3, and that the crease is noticeable at times but the crease isn't a huge con for me. And it's called RtSnowWhite :)
Got mine a couple of weeks ago. Hmm. Wi-fi? I've noticed a hicc-up a time or two. My Note 10+ never did that. Not noticed too much over heating. So far, no dust as of yet. I have my Flip 4 in a belt clip/case. Keeps my charging port clean. I guess. I like my battery. I use my phone more in the late afternoon/early evening. Yeah. Weird ratio. I don't mind the crease. I got the Flip because I wanted a smaller phone, well the Flip is as high as my Note 10+ were. But it's narrower and that I like. And it's a heavy little guy.
Hi, you do the following: 1. Go to your settings 2. Type "power" in the search menu. And select "How to power off your phone". 3. Change the Press and Hold option to power off menu. 4. Press and hold the power button and select power off.
7,5h acreen time its good battery life, i higly doubt that s9 plus did so much and also the SOC in zflip plus screen are way more pwer hungry and performant then s9, actualy i think that zfold4 is a decent foldable phone!
Maybe i am lucky engough, but i dont have any of cons 1, 2, 3, and 4 at all on my Z Flip 4. The Wi Fi is pretty consistent everywhere, the phone doesn't overheat (and i am living in Cyprus with 34 Celsius degrees outside in October), the dust is a thing but not worse than any other phone and the battery life, well, is subjective thing. With the battery protection feature on (charging tops at 85%) i have consistently a two days without charging. I am not heavy user though, my screen on time is about 3 hours and most of the time i am using the phone with podcasts or music playing in background. The Video aspect ratio isn't a problem for me because i am not shooting video at all but the crease is there! It's not a deal braker though because i love this phone overall.
My S9 just died after ab 4 - 5 years of use. now I'm really considering the flip 4 as a replacement. is it a good idea? (because ive heard alot of screen and crease issues)
I definitely recommend checking out the Z Flip 4 display models in the store before buying and I had an S9 Plus before the Z Flip 4. And just to clarify I don't need a Wi-Fi repeater, as I mentioned no other devices or phones in my household have this issue (over 20 devices) only the Z Flip4 has Wi-Fi issues. And it appears from the comments that some people are experiencing the Wi-Fi problem while others are not.
Just in case someone comes across this video and is put off by the screen aspect ratio: There is no free lunch here. If you're watching a video mastered to 16:9 then just like in Abby's video you'll get bars left/right OR if you fill the screen you'll get video cropped top/bottom. BUT, if you watch a movie on for example Netflix and it was mastered to 21:9 then it fills almost the entire screen. Any phone with an aspect ratio of 16:9 for example would have the opposite problem with this 21:9 video! It'd give you bars top/bottom or crop left/right instead. So there is no right or wrong here, there is just the matter of what you're watching and on what device. Personally I'd rather take bars left/right and a bigger widescreen movie than bars top/bottom. But that's just me...
Interesting points Mattias I appreciate you sharing. I will say that the majority of UA-cam, and Netflix videos are in 16:9 as a standard right now and have been that way for the last few years. If 21:9 becomes a more popular and common aspect for those platforms that would be great but I'm uncertain that will happen anytime soon. It's good that the 21:9 ratio doesn't bother you, but it's a definite con for me, and I believe many others coming from slab phones more configured for 16:9 ratio videos may find it a con as well.
I def agree that the Z Flip4's aspect ratio is annoying at times and is a con I watch youtube all the time on my Flip4 and all the videos have been in 16:9 . I would love if the phone was a bit wider to compensate for this but regarldeless still a great phone in my opinion, im happy I bought it.
@@emmaw1750 & Abby - I understand. It's just that you always get wasted space, no way around it. If the phone was as wide as you liked and then 16:9 then anyone watching a movie at 21:9 would get less image than if the movie was 16:9, whereas if we got the absolute width we wanted but it was 21:9 then everyone would get the image size they wanted - it's just that you'd get bars with 16:9. One way is limiting, the other isn't. Plus, it folds on that axis for a reason..
@@AbbyBReviewing just so you know movies on the big screen are 21:9 just when they make them to video they change it. But I think you can find movies as such. I personally surf the web or do other things while video is playing, I split it by the side.
Very well put, I believe these cons you mentioned are already out there in the open but as you rightly put in the title, nobody really talks about all of them in such detail. One more thing I'd like to mention is that the protective screen cover is actually a part of the foldable screen so if you remove it, the warranty will get void. This happened last year I think when UA-cam reviewers weren't aware of this and took off the cover which then led to lots of issues to which Samsung gave the clarification of not removing the cover. I have the Silver & Navy Blue bespoke edition with me and have a 2-yr Comprehensive Cover so I have some peace of mind !

I've had the Z flip 4 for 2 weeks now and I def agree with you about the random Wifi issues, weird video ratio, and the dust! OMG its a dust magnet i'll take your advice about getting a dust plug. And I legit travel with a dust cloth now too lol.. But regardless I am happy I upgraded, coming from the galaxy S20. The Z Flip4 is super fast, portable and ohh soo fun to use. Dust is for sure a problem but I just clean it with a wet cuetip (as it's fully waterproof anyway)
I’ve had mine for a week now. I did not have any wifi issues I could speak of but the dust problem… oh my, it’s like the phone’s a dust magnet on purpose. But I think the dust-proof issue’s not necesessarily related to the charging port, but the hinge of the clamshell. Still, the dust plug is not a bad thing to use, I’ve got one for my other phone as well, but I think Samsung refers to the hinge not being dust proof and unfortunately, there is not really anything one can do about that.
It is interesting to hear other people's experiences. I have not had any wifi issues and I wander all around my property streaming music. I also haven't had any overheating problems but I don't do any gaming or anything more intensive than youtube videos to generate heat. Apparently, I also do not use my phone to the same extent as most as I always have 25% or more battery after an average 18-hour day. It does collect dust, probably just because it gets trapped in the clamshell. The aspect ratio is unusual but anyone buying the phone should recognize that as well as the crease which I never notice. The other thing that wasn't mentioned is the lack of a telephoto lens. In the end, I am very happy with the phone.

I have my own gripes with my ++quite good++ Z-Flip4 5G, but not yours. . . . .#1) never had wifi issues with Z-Flip -it just works & is as fast and as steady as my desktop/laptop on my home wifi. #2) over-heating. Yes it can get warm. When I run Android Auto for 4 hours of driving & using maps, Pandora, BandCamp, or even google voice for questions,. it gets warm -but not hot. I have Samsung's great leather case I never could not pick up or use the phone. It never overheated. #3. Never botherd with a port protector. In the past I worried about water, but not so much with this phone. Not so dust--focused.#4 YES, you are right that Z-Flip main screen is a fingerprint magnet. Also, the screen is NOT as nice/crisp/sharp as any "real" Galaxy-S series! If one wants sharp & crip screens then skip any foldable. #5 Cameras are terrible. I hate them. They are a step down from any Galaxy-S even worse than my old Galaxy S2 years ago. Just not good: Period. #6 Battery life on my ZFlip 4 is ok, not super. Of course, 2 smaller batteries can't be compared against one larger S9 battery, but in more than 8 months, I only ran out of juice 1x (at about 8pm) and I am a busy/active (but not constant) phone user for email, youtube, music and even astronomy apps! #7 Crease is there and I think always noticable, but I don't care -if a crease is an issue, then this phone is not for you.
. . . I Love the size, the "pocketability," the safety with the main screen-on-screen protection when it is closed (If I drop it I really don't worry (that might change with ZFlip5!)) I love its reliability & build quality. I just tried the new "best flip phone" the razr+ and after 24 hours returned it because it lacks software depth offered by one-ui, and wasn't as customizable as any Samsung one-ui phone, also I felt that the hardware quality did not seem to me to be as good. I have had my phone for several weeks. I received it a few days before official release date. I have zero wifi issues, no issues with dust. The phone is fast and responsive. The battery life is acceptable for me. The phone charges fast up to 50 percent in 30 minutes making battery life a non issue for me. The crease does not bother me may be issue for gamers though. I love the folding phone the way you can slide it in your pocket, and great for small purses, so its worth it to me. As for the videos yes ratio is different but wow the clarity and color is fantastic as is the sound. I think it's just personal preferences on most issues. If you keep your phone optimized heating issues go away at least they did for me.

I don't think it was necessarily overheating when you first set it up just rather it was getting warm while you were transferring your data, apps updating in the background and charging. Even my s22 ultra got warm during this process. The wifi issue might just be a software bug, sadly this is one of the cons buying a new phone on release so hopefully a few firmware updates fixes that (personally I haven't experienced this on my flip) I think the gummy screen protector Samsung uses on the inside collects dust, hopefully they use a better material in the future. Another thing I have noticed that helps with battery is turning on light mode in the battery settings which for me I haven't noticed any impact to performance while using. I have actually been getting better battery life on my flip then my s22 ultra which is odd.
Hi sharkbait, just to clarify my Z Flip4 got very hot during the transfer and still does get pretty warm daily, especially when watching videos or multitasking with multiple apps open but this hasn't caused any functionality issues or anything yet. @@AbbyBReviewing odd mine only tends to get warm when charging. Its actually a bit cooler then my s22 ultra. But I have heard that these new Snapdragon chips run pretty warm in general. I think the worst one I have seen is in the Oneplus 10 pro. I think my only complaint about this phone is the gummy screen protector holds dust on the main screen and its a fingerprint nightmare. Hopefully Samsung pushes out an update soon to fix the little bugs (being an early adopter is fun lol). Light mode has been great for me, I also set up a Bixby routine where it turns on power saving mode every time the phone is folded and then it turns off when opened. Really enjoying the compact size compared to the brick the s22 ultra is lol.
I was noticing the heat issue but I changed to the light performance setting and I no longer have that issue and it improves the battery life.
My flip 4 hasn't ever been hot, slightly warm if charging but iv never used a phone that hasn't done that.

I have a problem with the signal on my z flip 4 I've noticed on 5g/4g the signal is low but when I change the setting to 3g only the signal doubles so I have 4 bars

Wow I have ZFLIP3 and it seems ZFLIP4 has all the issues of the ZFLIP3. My HUGE con on ZFLIP3 is BATTERY 🔋 Life SUCKS!!. I have it on dark settings, 60gz screen, no widgets and if I get 5hr battery it's a lot. I end up switching back to my old s20 battery on s20 is fabulous!! Lastly yes don't be fool when say you don't feel the crease you do and the screen sensitivity in that area is bad.
Ive had my flip for less than a month and I'm having a hard time keeping my connection. I am returning it and I've got a galaxy z fold 4 coming instead. I hope it works better!

Hi Ioan Tamasescu, it's 7 hours total with my normal usage (ex. many calls, texts, UA-cam videos, taking photos, playing games, web browsing etc.). Adversely, with lighter usage and less SOT usually lasts me at least 12 hours.

It's good that you are making a video highlighting things that don't work for you. Personally, I traded my S22 Ultra for the compact Flip 4 primarily because I am a basic user- texts, calls, UA-cam (watching and uploading) and emails- and for me, it's a great phone. The battery life is interesting because the first 30-40% will die quickly but I find the last 60-70% can last MUCH longer. I don't know if that's just my phone, but it is definitely something I notice. All of your other cons are valid, but I must say, it hasn't been the case for me or my phone. When it comes to the crease, I tend to be annoyed by it at night, laying in a dark room, scrolling through UA-cam videos lol the crease looks darker than the rest of the screen for some reason (possibly the angle) but during the day and other positions, the crease really isn't noticeable to me. I only write this as an average user for others to read 😃

Lol I said the exact same thing but with all the problems that you may go through in time wait I'm not saying it will happen but folding phones does come with it's defects in time you might be one of the lucky ones who doesn't have to deal with it but I said the same thing but I just couldn't do it lol.

@yourmomprobably9104 first of all hi, i just want to address that the zflip 4 is amazing in my opinion (good performance super smooth and everything) but it overheats and the battery drains fast. If you don't have problem with that then buy it but there's phones better than it and much cheaper🤷♀️
I gotta say, GOOD job! Honesty is appreciated...I feel this will be a good "detox" phone despite the cons. I was on my notes and fold ALL the time. I now have a VERY warm, regular s22. It's helped me NOT USE my gadget ALL the time (I feel the heat, time to get off). Despite the heat, it's ALWAYS performed without issue, except when the graphics are maxxed, playing CoD. I must tone them down to play longer than a couple of matches. I expect the same with this phone. I'll miss the awesome s22 camera, but my bespoke flip4 (blue/red/silver) just shipped out :-) It'll be pretty to look at CLOSED.

That's why i rarely believe those so called reviewers. Most of them just like the freebies they get so they hype it up. Never mentioning the negative or cons. I can't even count how many tech reviewers are praising the "dynamic island, always on display" on the new iphone like it was the apex of innovation. Oh and how "amazing" the new cameras are. Amazing. Yet when they compare the picture taken with the new iphone and the previous model it's hard to tel em apart. But it's Amazing.

I’m trying to decide if I want the flip… I really like the form factor and the outer screen and just the general physicality of it really draws me in! But I’m hearing about the connection problem for the first time tonight plus the overheating and battery life :/ The one game I play is pokemon go so I need it to be able to last while I am out and about. So I’m wondering if there are just too many problems with performance to justify getting it even though I love it over all. Anyway I really appreciate the review!

It depends upon how strong your Wi-Fi is and what company you are using for your Wi-Fi or Internet. And also it depends on how many walls it has to go through to reach your device.
Hello, just to clarify I have the fastest Wi-Fi available from my provider, and no other phones or devices in my household regardless of the postion in the basement, middle floor or top floor have Wi-Fi connection or dropping issues only the Z Flip 4 does. So I don't think the Wi-Fi is the issue here.

The dust problem might be the case. Those silicone cases are true dust magnets. I use mine without a case and it doesn't have that problem.
Hello, it's actually the screen protector the attracts dust the most. I switch my cases often (I have 3 other TPU/plastic non silicone ones) and the dust issue stays the same. And you are brave I could never use my phones "naked" lol.
Yeah i have a tough case n i dont have the dust issue...
I don't face any heating issues with my flip... Have it for a couple of weeks now.. The battery lasts me more than a day with heavy use and 2 Bluetooth devices connected, I just keep it on 60hrz.. Don't need 120 all the time... The screen aspect ratio I agree is slightly different and takes getting used to but then I prefer thin phones as they are easier to hold.. For me this size is perfect... Crease is a non issue for me... Yes dust does collect a lot, and I keep wiping it but then it's a foldable, so something you can expect..
My main gripe is you can't put a screen protector... Don't know if I should put one above the one it came with... As the continous wiping is leaving faint scratches on the protector...

I just (a week ago) traded my S22 Ultra for the Z-Flip 4, not looking back! The S22 was just way too big! Wouldn't fit in the wireless charger in my car. I had no use for the S-Pen. I don't watch anything more than the "Shorts" videos on UA-cam, anything more than that, I use my tablet. I do text frequently but it's mainly used as a PHONE... 😎... When was the last time you were on a landline for 7 hours.? I easily get a day and a half to two days on a charge. As far as the camera goes it's fine for the average user, I also have real cameras. I don't "game" on the Z-Flip either.

Really interesting to see all Abbys reviews but also your comparrison to the S22 ultra as I'm currently trying to choose between these 2 phones.
Currently using the pink S7 edge like Abby have just loved it but now want a bigger screen so I can watch movies and Netflix on and have always wanted an S Pen so was edging more towards the Ultra tbh but your now giving me food for thought re the size etc.
The only thing is I'd find the wifi issues really annoying and worry the screens probs no bigger then my S7 edge.... urgh!

I've now been using the Flip 4 for nearly 3 weeks and can't say I've had WiFi or heating problems. Your point about dust ingress is noted and I may well get a plug. I agree the screen ratio takes a bit of getting used to but the advantage is that us smaller handed folk are less likely to drop the phone. Yes, battery life is a bit less than my Note 20 Ultra but I find it acceptable. As to the crease it's not noticeable when looking directly at the screen. Also I tend to use a stylus when possible so the indentation doesn't bother me.
This phone's great advantage is the superb Snapdragon processor compared to the Note 20's Exynos!
Also fingerprint and facial recognition actually work.

My z flip has had no overheating honestly, not even while I’m using it when charging. But my Wi-Fi does drop often at home and I have had one cat hair get stuck in the front screen. As far as battery life, play with settings that work for you and my phone lasts me pretty much all day. Don’t expect it to if you’re on your phone majority of the day tho (but I do scroll social media, watch videos and message/use calls regularly). Also, if you want this phone and think the crease will b an issue, don’t get it. It’s literally a flip phone

I bought this phone recently and i have to say I've not noticed any issues with the WiFi, and personally mine does not heat up, I did hear that people were saying this so I was a little conscious but mine doesn't heat up. Also I've never noticed any dust on my screen, I've had it for two weeks and used it without a case so far and haven't noticed any dust or crumbs like she was showing. I would have to agree with some of the other points she made though, the battery life does drain. You will have a fully charged phone at the start of the day and then come to the end it will be on 15%, which you don't usually expect of new phones.
Thank you for this video and the honesty! I have always been an apple person and I recently upgraded to the iPhone 14 pro max (I really like it) but I am in the market for a second phone for work. I saw so many videos saying how awesome this phone was and I was sold on the design because it is so cute and customizable, but some of the cons you pointed out are big deal breakers for me. The wifi issues would really defeat the purpose of a work phone for me since I am remote 90% of the time. While this is a super cute and novelty phone, I am going to wait until more major model upgrades are made on the phone before making a swap to Samsung.
I had mine for 2 weeks now. The wifi issue omg i also noticed it too it takes a while to connect, it doesnt disconnect tho but sometimes it slows down I jotice it when I chat someone in messenger. I Think why there's a lot of dust and stuff on the screen it's because it's plastic. I like the crease kinda like a fidget toy to me lol and it doesnt really bother me when playing or if I see it outside it just is you know. I used to have issues with the battery draining faster than my old phone but after a while i guess the adaptive battery got used to my usage (watching youtube social media, playing genshin) it got to a point where it doesn't go down faster it used to be 3-4 hrs usage (85% to 20%). The overheating issue yeah it kind aoverheats on the top half only I think it should be distributed to the whole phone
Video ratio i dont mind because I dont mind it mot being on full screen or having a small screen when it's flexed

The Z Flip4 has some cons but, has way more pros in my opinion. I think it is worth the upgrade especially if your interested in foldables and looking for something new! But, I definitely recommend trying it out in store first with the test phones if possible or buying it from somewhere with a good return policy like Amazon or Samsung in case you dont like it. And depending where you live you could get a great trade in offer for the Z Flip 4 with the S21+ too.

Very good video! 👍 I also noticed this issue with WiFi which in my vade has happened perhaps 2-3 times in the two weeks I've had the flip4. Besides this i haven't noticed any overheating at all and the battery life is really good. Perhaps your unit due to the connection issues you're describing is constantly searching for a good connection and that's why your battery life isn't good and goes hot. Have you reached out to Samsung support about this?

Yes I have reached out and tried various trouble shooting steps that unfortunately didn't help, I even got a new different Z Flip4 and the same issue is happening. I have zflip 4 for 6 weeks. I have not noticed wifi issue or heating problem.
Try to go to setting battery more battery and change your performance profile to Light.
Also turn off your haptic feedback. Off your touch vibration response off. This will get you few hours more battery with same speed.
Actually I like this phone more than S22 ultra. Everyone has their preferences , so I respect your taste

I've had the z flip 4 for 3 weeks ans here are my takes on your issues
1. I have a French version and I have not noticed any issue on the WiFi speeds
2. I did have a overheating issue AT FIRST. But all i had to do was update the software and all the apps. After that I've never had that issue again. I game on the phone and it does heat a little but nothing too bad
3. Dust and lint ? I have not noticed that with or without a case haha
4/5/6 - I do agree with those but i accept them because I looooove the z flip 4. To me, those are tradeoffs I'm willing to make. The battery is honestly not that bad especially if you don't open your phone as often.

Hi, what type of games are u playing? i kinda want to play a extremely competitive fps game that need a fast hand, in that case im going to make my finger nail touching the screen or maybe i press the screen a little too hard because when gaming sometimes im very focus so i didnt realise my finger nail or my hand press the screen

I have my very own Z Flip 4. The problem with the wifi, can be fixed by using stabilizers around the house(I never had that problem). Phones will overheat, which is something normal and ESPECIALLY if transferring things. For me personally, the dust from the screen itself can be easily gone with one wipe(with anytype of cloth), but I would agree with dust getting into the hinge, I'm sure that the dust buildup would have to be a lot for that to really happen. However, the battery is actually a typical battery ,because Samsung themselves have said "long-lasting 3700mAh (typical) battery" as well as the phone being a 8 hour long lasting phone, so you would be able to get that extra hour that you wanted. For the video viewing in UA-cam, thats a very normal, I've had that format for my previous phones as well, so I'm sure if that wouldn't be counted as a con(In my opinion). The crease "problem" is something that should be expected since the whole idea of the phone, is that it can flip. The reason that everyone says its
"unnoticeable" is beacuse of the viewing aspect. No hate to this creator, I just don't want people confused about the information they see with this phone. :)

I just got my Z Flip 4 about 4 days ago and just updated to android 13. In my own experience, any phone will definitely heat up on the first day you turn it on and transfer files from your old device, other than that the phone never really got pretty hot just like my Pixel 6 and 6 Pro did. I've been using my Z Flip 4 to watch UA-cam videos using WiFi and data network 5G connectiom with TMobile with no issues at all it's really snappy and loads content pretty quick so not sure if it's just your device or your data connection. No drop connections on my end too, I definitely experienced dropping connections with my Pixel phones and iPhone 13 Pro Max. My only gripe would be the battery. Since I own a 13 Pro Max, I have been spoiled in not having to worry about my phone battery coz it's definitely a 2-day battery phone for me. But with Z Flip 4, I'd have carry around a charger or battery pack just to make sure it does not die on me when I'm out and about.

Hi Stormy, I'm actually working on a video for Z Flip 4 battery life extension tips which will be dropping soon :) so make sure to subscribe & turn on your post notifications (if you haven't already) to be notified when it drops!
Also, when you turn on power saving mode it limits things such as background syncing and location checks to save battery life. This reduces the amount of times your emails are synched and reduces your email notifications as a result, leading to some being missed. One tip to extend battery life on your Z Flip 4 is to use manual brightness instead of auto brightness, and reduce your phones brightness to low when you can this helps extend battery life.

I've only noticed the crease in certain lighting conditions and angles. It doesn't really bother me. AND I di feel it when scrolling. Doesn't bother me.
That's what i dislike about the flip phone, it's skinny! It's a disadvantage to movie addicts. I prefer a rounded boxy design

I am retracting my praise for this phone's durability because recently I did drop mine from 4 feet because I set it down while on the toilet to listen to a video and it slide off the rail and landed onto hard tile floors. The case popped off (I'm returning this crappy cheap case) and the screen flickered and died. According to the phone repair place, the magnet that tells the phone it is "closed" go dislodged and my phone kept thinking it was closed and the fall also showed visible damage to the screen protector at the fold point as every time I opened and closed from then on, the crease was very noticeable
Luckily I have the insurance and paid the deductible, which is about $100 to get a replacement. Not before paying extra to a phone repair place to reactivate the screen so I can transfer my stuff over. I've since bought a "better case" but the fact that my Flip 4 dropped at the "right" angle will utterly disable the screen is a problem for me and from a relatively short height.

Hi Antonio, I do agree, I mainly wanted to point out that there hasn't been a noticable upgrade in the crease compared to the Z Flip3, and that the crease is noticeable at times but the crease isn't a huge con for me. And it's called RtSnowWhite :)

Got mine a couple of weeks ago. Hmm. Wi-fi? I've noticed a hicc-up a time or two. My Note 10+ never did that. Not noticed too much over heating.
So far, no dust as of yet.
I have my Flip 4 in a belt clip/case. Keeps my charging port clean. I guess.
I like my battery. I use my phone more in the late afternoon/early evening.

I don't mind the crease.
I got the Flip because I wanted a smaller phone, well the Flip is as high as my Note 10+ were. But it's narrower and that I like. And it's a heavy little guy.

1. Go to your settings
2. Type "power" in the search menu. And select "How to power off your phone".
3. Change the Press and Hold option to power off menu.
4. Press and hold the power button and select power off.
7,5h acreen time its good battery life, i higly doubt that s9 plus did so much and also the SOC in zflip plus screen are way more pwer hungry and performant then s9, actualy i think that zfold4 is a decent foldable phone!
Well, I'm using official Samsung branded phone cases so..
Maybe i am lucky engough, but i dont have any of cons 1, 2, 3, and 4 at all on my Z Flip 4. The Wi Fi is pretty consistent everywhere, the phone doesn't overheat (and i am living in Cyprus with 34 Celsius degrees outside in October), the dust is a thing but not worse than any other phone and the battery life, well, is subjective thing. With the battery protection feature on (charging tops at 85%) i have consistently a two days without charging. I am not heavy user though, my screen on time is about 3 hours and most of the time i am using the phone with podcasts or music playing in background.
The Video aspect ratio isn't a problem for me because i am not shooting video at all but the crease is there! It's not a deal braker though because i love this phone overall.

My S9 just died after ab 4 - 5 years of use. now I'm really considering the flip 4 as a replacement. is it a good idea? (because ive heard alot of screen and crease issues)

By the looks of it, that screenprotector won't last. It already has a curved foldline and gets worse.
The screen protector has been holding up well so far actually, no fold lines, fraying or warping. But this can be replaced if it does wear out.

And just to clarify I don't need a Wi-Fi repeater, as I mentioned no other devices or phones in my household have this issue (over 20 devices) only the Z Flip4 has Wi-Fi issues. And it appears from the comments that some people are experiencing the Wi-Fi problem while others are not.
Ugh I am also having the Z Flip 4 wifi issue, it is very annoying. I'm hoping they fix it soon.

Overheating is on all Samsung phone
It’s definitely a particular factor for the Flip. It doesn’t have a whole feature that all the other galaxies do because of the overheating.
Just in case someone comes across this video and is put off by the screen aspect ratio: There is no free lunch here. If you're watching a video mastered to 16:9 then just like in Abby's video you'll get bars left/right OR if you fill the screen you'll get video cropped top/bottom. BUT, if you watch a movie on for example Netflix and it was mastered to 21:9 then it fills almost the entire screen. Any phone with an aspect ratio of 16:9 for example would have the opposite problem with this 21:9 video! It'd give you bars top/bottom or crop left/right instead. So there is no right or wrong here, there is just the matter of what you're watching and on what device. Personally I'd rather take bars left/right and a bigger widescreen movie than bars top/bottom. But that's just me...
Interesting points Mattias I appreciate you sharing. I will say that the majority of UA-cam, and Netflix videos are in 16:9 as a standard right now and have been that way for the last few years. If 21:9 becomes a more popular and common aspect for those platforms that would be great but I'm uncertain that will happen anytime soon. It's good that the 21:9 ratio doesn't bother you, but it's a definite con for me, and I believe many others coming from slab phones more configured for 16:9 ratio videos may find it a con as well.
I def agree that the Z Flip4's aspect ratio is annoying at times and is a con I watch youtube all the time on my Flip4 and all the videos have been in 16:9 . I would love if the phone was a bit wider to compensate for this but regarldeless still a great phone in my opinion, im happy I bought it.
@@emmaw1750 & Abby - I understand. It's just that you always get wasted space, no way around it. If the phone was as wide as you liked and then 16:9 then anyone watching a movie at 21:9 would get less image than if the movie was 16:9, whereas if we got the absolute width we wanted but it was 21:9 then everyone would get the image size they wanted - it's just that you'd get bars with 16:9. One way is limiting, the other isn't. Plus, it folds on that axis for a reason..
@@AbbyBReviewing just so you know movies on the big screen are 21:9 just when they make them to video they change it. But I think you can find movies as such. I personally surf the web or do other things while video is playing, I split it by the side.

Very well put, I believe these cons you mentioned are already out there in the open but as you rightly put in the title, nobody really talks about all of them in such detail.
One more thing I'd like to mention is that the protective screen cover is actually a part of the foldable screen so if you remove it, the warranty will get void. This happened last year I think when UA-cam reviewers weren't aware of this and took off the cover which then led to lots of issues to which Samsung gave the clarification of not removing the cover.
I have the Silver & Navy Blue bespoke edition with me and have a 2-yr Comprehensive Cover so I have some peace of mind !
