  • This week we do our mobile campground review out at Schafer State Park, outside of Elma, Washington site by site. This side of Schafer State Park is the brand new side that is set to open spring 2024. Come with us as we show you this new campground which boast ample pull thru spots for some really big rigs and a great layout for campers of all sizes and a couple spots that have more remote access than others. This looks like its going to be a great addition to Schaefer State Park, which does have some great access to the Satsop river.

    Would you camp here ? We loved our time at Schafer state park and this campground should be pretty good when it opens up with those wide pull thru’s. Just a little bit for everyone !!

    After closing so many camp grounds, I am thrilled that the state is adding a new CG!

      This one should be pretty good with wide long pull thru’s . We know of another couple that are also in construction currently as well.

    Thanks for the nice preview. We actually walked the sites today and then rushed home to book 5 nights in late May. Shhhh.... Let's keep this amazing new amenity a SECRET!! lol

      Thanks for the great comment Roy. It looks as it gets more established that it will be really good. Hard to tell as it was being finished being built when we got to see it. Good luck on your trip in May, going to be some of the first campers to experience the campground, how exciting !!!

    Wow, I stopped at this park for a lunch break when I rode my Vespa from Bremerton to Raymond & it was such a nice place--letting the monster RVs in now kind of ruins its magic--but appears a nicely designed option to draw more visitors & support for the park system!

      I think you hit it right . A little for everyone. The old park is still open and will cater to smaller options. But it is nice to see some better overall layouts to help accommodate all different styles of camping. Thanks for the comment !!

    I'm here right now! And I love this place. The staff are super, maintenance is super, the campsites are very well spaced, amenities are excellent, the river is right next door with walking/hiking trails on both sides of the river. The place is so clean and well-maintained.
    However .. the bathrooms/toilets are permanently closed (due to vandalism) with only porta-potties for those who need that sort of thing, and they are quite a hike from the campsites. Wifi through the park system is hit-and-miss at best, not good, even tho they advertise free wifi.
    My other thought is about the state's website in general ... when I booked my campsite here, their website said that the one I got was the ONLY campsite available this night. And yet, I found that out of 30 campsites, only 9 were taken. I've found that with other WA State campgrounds as well. I've emailed them about the problem, with no response.
    The pull-though campsites in this new section of Schafer are huge and wonderful! And ... every site has a graveled tent area ... not many trees to tie a tent to but if your tent doesn't need trees, then this is the place.
    Also, did you measure the length of each site? There's WAY more length available than you say there is. Site #25 has a vehicle in it and a trailer that is at least 15 feet, so your estimate of only 20-feet available is off the mark.
    I'm in site #27, which you say goes UP to 30 feet. My trailer and my truck measure 43 feet, and I have room to spare!
    Did you mention the tent-only camping sites? And the trail back to the river and along the river, really gorgeous! And the birds ... glorious birds every morning and evening. And yes a tiny bit of road noise during the day, really tiny! And pretty much no noise at all overnight.
    Really appreciate your work on this stuff. Hope my input helps.

      That’s stinks about the vandalized bathrooms , especially with them being brand new. Tue WiFi was also spotty last year in the old side of the campground.
      When we talk about sizes they are rough estimates for trailer size and being able to accommodate a tow vehicle. We don’t measure each one by hand , but I usually state to confirm with the website on actual sizing. This park being completely empty is new to us as most site reviews are done with atleast some one in the camp ground. We don’t get a chance to showcase brand new campgrounds ever.
      I did mention the tent sites as they are back off into the tree line on the backside of the campground.
      Thank you for you great and detailed comment. These things help everyone with their experiences and allows others to make their memories. We appreciate again for the comment !!!

    Thank you so much for the thorough review-it's super helpful! I know these take a lot of time, so it's much appreciated. I work remotely and was wondering if you were able to use the internet while at Schafer. Usually, I use my phone as a hotspot, but I'm unsure if I will need anything else for our future trip.

      Great question. I can’t speak for this new section , but there was some WiFi at the old side of Schaefer state park. I believe we did have cell coverage. Hope that helps

    FYI: if you have reservations or are going to be making reservations, be aware that sites 20, 21, and 23 are "ADA Only". If you already have reservations for any of those sites, and don't qualify to reserve an ADA site, you will have to change your reservation to a different site. The reservation system has not been updated to correctly show these as "ADA Only".

    I can’t wait to camp at the new campground! So beautiful & woodsy. Just a short walk over to the old campground & river access.

    The "Pads" or parking length on most of these sites is much longer than what you're saying....people should check the reservation website for accurate site details.

    • @UniqueAdventurez
      @UniqueAdventurez  3 місяці тому +2

      In my videos I talk rough trailer sizes. Not pad length . This campground had no information available for site sizes before we did the mobile site review. I always encourage people to check the state website for approximate sizing.

    Is this campground mainly for rv’s and campers? Or is there a soft ground spot on each space to pitch a tent?

    • @UniqueAdventurez
      @UniqueAdventurez  5 місяців тому +2

      I would assume mainly for RVs and campers . Looks like a couple of sites have independent tent pads. I do know that the walk in sites (15-18) are for tent setups. You may also look to the traditional side of Schaefer state parks for Oder side as they have some pretty good tent sites as well. Hope that helps !

      @@Rightex13r Hello, I am the Ranger at Schafer State Park. Each site in the East Campground has a designated tent pad and pad for the fire pit/picnic table. All but four sites (15-18) have power and water. There are also seven first come first serve sites in the East Campground. Thanks!
