D'Angelo Bailey, actually beat Eminem into a coma as a child. So i always took this song as him acknowledging that the beating he suffered probably left him with "Brain Damage" and why he raps the way he does and his subject matter. Fire reaction 🔥
Same
He reacted to that on Patreon
He throw an ice/snow ball with a rock or something inside full force at his head and they had to induce his coma to reduce swelling on his brain...big respect to the judge on the deformation case against Marshall by D'angelo
@@leegent615 Didn't Debbie Mathers try or, did sue the school over it ?..
This bully tried taking him to court for defamation or something, I think the judge quickly told the bully he'd lost the case, with a small rap lol.
That’s not bias, Stevie. That’s a preference. Your understanding changes as you expose yourself to new things. It’s very enjoyable to watch.
THIS
@@sexcannonmusic284 THIS
Does a preference not end up being a bias?
Preference is whether you like it or not, biased is letting your Preference keep you from being a fair judge of what is actually presented
@@casre161 more often than not, it ends up being a bias. No one seems to get it i guess
It takes a big man to look over his past to realize what was his own truth. Big up to you and your continued growth. I wish you mad blessings and continued growth. Help others this same way
Peace
He's only really exaggerating slightly man, DeAngelo bailey beat him to the point he need to learn to walk n talk again
Big facts and underrated comment by far.
Talk yo shit, this is what sets Stevie apart from others. Having the awareness, willingness, and courage to check yourself is difficult enough but for him to put it out there for us to see is pretty damn cool.
"big man ". nah .it's not that hard if you want to be honest with yourself so that you can grow , improve and learn . it''s just that you don't see much of honesty on the internet because 99.9% of the people are fake on the internet. they pretend when that camera is on and they turn into someone else when that camera turns off
Well he ain't small haha
Sslp is so vivid, like a movie, I can see everything he's saying happening before my eyes, just by listening. Love the story telling. 97 bonnie and Clyde is one of my favorites.
This is absolutely the correct comment. I never really thought about it like that, but you are so right
It is literally a fantastical imagination of what Em experienced as a kid growing up in Detroit pretty much. He is telling you things that happened, but in a blown up way.
In my opinion bluegrass was the last of truly great storytelling music, until Eminem came along.
Yea, I hear a lot that he wasnt 'rapping' in sslp. He was tho, and the story telling was amazing.
Sslp reminds me of early South Park, violent and offensive humour with cartoonish humour but has reality intertwined
The thing you have to realize with the Slim Shady LP is that a lot of the songs on there are based on real life events that he has experienced. They are just so overly skewed and blown up to a fantastical level with his mind. And there's just some fun tracks, plus some very depressing tracks. Like this track, Brain Damage is about when he got beat the hell up in school and literally had an aneurism and had to be rushed to the emergency room as a kid. Which is kind of relatable to some people too. It's not filled with tons of double entendres (although there are a few), but it's a story, a life story of Em.
And while some of the SSLP doesn't hold up as well today of course, it still has some really great tracks that do hold up today and back then were mind blowing really
Deangelo Bailey was really his bully at the time too.
Stevie roasting Stevie is becoming one of favorite things. It's making me remember where I was at watchin you back then and ya there were def a few songs I was a bit perplexed at your reactions.
Understandable, glad to see you doing a re-listen
SSLP is literally Eminem’s try to make a comic book, but through rap. That whole album is so vivid, so colorful, and so masterful all the way through. He paints a perfect picture of his childhood, and adolesence, using humor and insane rhyming, which in itself it is a massive achievement, because like how can u talk about something so damn painful/hurtful, in such a humorous/playful manner? It is not even shock value, it is straight up comedy/comics material.
💯 accurate analysis. And ofcourse em was actually into drawing comics, and was good at it. You can see the storytelling talent early on.😊
The guy that beat him up was actually a real person lmao he actually sued Em n lost. So yea he's exaggerating a bit but he was actually bullied by dude.
Didn't he win that lawsuit?
D’angelo Bailley … and nah Em won that one
@@lndulging9328 Em did yea not the bully
@@EdwardNygma007 is that the guy that’s now a janitor
The best thing is that the judge made the sentence in the form of a rap song.. It is in the documentary I found on youtube.. I died laughing 😄
Slim shady lp is fucking legendary its hella slept on by people who really arent that big of eminem fan cause they always say marshal mathers lp the slim shady lp is really fucking amazing
I agree, it's one of his best albums. I still play it a ton. Apparantly D'Angelo almost beat him into a coma.
EDIT: He was in a coma for one week and he was 9. He was beaten and he took a snowball to the head with some hard object inside and they found him hours later bleeding on the bathroom floor unconscious. D'angelo sued him for 1 million but lost the case.
@@thewildhealer541 yeah he talks about it alot back then sslp is def my top 3 fav albums
Im a big EM fan, but I admit SSLP was great in 1998/99 when I was 15/16 years old, nowadays I do like it still but MMLP is where EM really stpped up his game
@@SuperHns of course its his second album he was famous rich he had to go big to teally bring his name higher buh sslp has way too many tracks that are slept on rock bottom if i had brain damage role model i still dont give a fuck as the world turns only real em fans speak on em people who like em or just turning to em never speak on this album like they should i think
@@lilredmob16 Dont get me wrong bro, I love SSLP. but my favorite EM album is Eminem Show and 8mile soundtrack, MTBMB A&B
Stevie's 1st reaction represents how we judge individuals before understanding them. Stevies 2nd reaction represents growth as a person looking back at their foolish ways.
For SURE💯
Amen!!
This LP came out of him being so into comic books as a kid.. super awesome hyperbole and imagery. Dude is such an artist 🎨
I just love how hard he hit on the beat. There's something about how he just stayed on those Dre produced beats that's magical.
He really is a master at making his flow sound like additional percussion on the track!
First song I heard from eminem. Was in high school. You could tell he was a legend from the get. His lyrics touch people on so many levels.
Touch them where exactly 🧐
@@kingimasters2649 I remember my first time using the internet.
I've been listening to Em since I was 11 and I heard lighters, not afraid, beautiful, legacy and a few other songs and I just fell in love with his music throughout highschool. Went through his whole catalog and it is truly amazing!
how old you 32?
@@MrfuckinBeilke 39
This song, Rock Bottom, and Bonnie and Clyde were the tracks that made me love Eminem right out the gate.
the whole cd really
I love when Stevie watches back in his old reactions and gets disappointed at himself 😂
But I’m happy he realises that Em is the GOAT now. Took a bit but he got there.
fax
Stevie, love that you are doing a 2.0 version with real video of your 1.0 reaction, and the contrast from the beginning verses now. Would love to see a 3.0 version of Em in 2 or 3 yrs that speaks on both videos from the maturity of your first 1.0, & 2.0 reactions plus the time and experience gained from listening to Em in true depth… You are my fav reactor, for going into reactions, seemingly cold, without prep work etc…. Respect, keep it real and keep talkin’ yo sh*t ! 😎
"Are you not entertained" you are now my guy!! Your growth has been a sight to see on your channel. Keep rolling with lyricism
As a metal and hip hop fan I felt the same way about SSLP. Some of it made me laugh but I didn’t understand why people loved Em. When I heard the Marshal Mathers album it clicked for me. I went back to SS and then the lightbulb went off. I been a fan ever since.
I was very skeptical after Hi My Name Is, until the singer in my band had me listen to Guilty Conscience. I was sold immediately. Loved Rock Bottom as well. I was then skeptical he could do it again. Then he dropped MMLP. The GOAT.
The thing is this isn't even "out there" the is some "real shit" to Em that he endured, maybe not later when he's talking about the screws and shit, but him being bullied in school is a staple of his life/music.
Hahaha Stevie saying “fuck outta here” to his old self is the funniest thing I’ve seen for a minute hahah I’m glad you are appreciating it more the second time around. Like you said. It takes multiple listens. I’m still catching shit from Eminem songs I’ve heard a hundred times
this is a visual of the transition fo Stevie becoming a Stan :)
“Same damn brain scan results as
Rainman’s’es, something’s aweful when
Dustin Hoffman
is dressin up in your mummy custome
on stage dancin to Brain Damage,
what’s the problem?
Nothing’s wrong, the name brand is back to reclaim status”
EMINEM - Campaign Speech
Dustin he a Hoffman
Stevie, appreciate the humility and your willingness to challenge your previous bias and views. I know how cringey and annoying it can be to see a playback on previous self actions and perspectives, good on you for highlighting this shit and not letting your ego get in the way!
The way you handled this old reaction was beautiful. To change your mind and be able to critique your past self... we all need to see that shit. Great job! Coming from a long time Eminem fan !
"But don't you want to give me a school detention? nah that bully wants to beat your ass and imma let him!"
That makes me laugh every time LOL
This is a perfect video... I'm showing this to everybody I've ever told to sit down and break down rap lyrics, versus just checking who made the track or bobbing your head, rapping the one line you like loud as fuck & waiting for the chorus...
Man you getting bigger everyday I swear, tell little man I said, he’s blessed with one of the greatest dads out there!!! Love you bro keep up the great footage!
The cartoon gore/violence in his lyrics was one of the things that got kids hooked. SSLP is filled with him doing voices and sound effects along with it. It's like he took comedy rap from the 80s, but changed it up to fit the 90s with an increased age restriction. He's still rapping too. Kids might have been clueless about rapping, and years down the line after having gotten into rap. They go back to SSLP and discover that Eminem was actually rapping. It wasn't just voices, sound effects and cartoon violence.
Stevie I love this. Love to hear you reflecting and reacting to yourself. Not afraid to say if you were wrong, ownership to correct it. That's why we fcks w/ you!!
So glad you realize it now! Everything em does is fire in its own way. He’s never lyrically fell off. Every song paints a picture
This concept is so dope. You reacting to your reactions. Need more of this. Shows how your ears have grown for this shit too. Respect.
brain damage is in my top 5 em songs of all time easily, it's a classic, love seeing you viewing it differently now stevie, i played this shit on repeat back when it came out, you should reaction to "my fault" classic shit.
Your reaction to your pass reactions are great. It's cool to see how far u have come. It's great to see how Em's music has taken you from hearing music. To actually listening to music. Hearing things in the music that u might not have heard if you never started reacting to his music. Now your truly hearing every artist music more than ever. The double 🖕🖕at yourself was hilarious 😂
Truth, never have I seen a reaction of someone doing himself .. mad respect been subscribed for years, thanks for what you do ..
Love the growth in appreciating his flow & lyricism.
Interesting how much a person can grow in a year or two this was like watching two different people hilarious at the same time
You could literally do this with every single Eminem song, go re-listen and you'll find something to like even if you didn't like it the first time.
Mad love on this! Most people aren’t willing to look in the mirror and address things that they said in their past. You manned up and show how you evolved .
The whole album is a Classic. A lot of us were bullied growing up so this really helped us get through it. It was like having somebody in your corner teaching you to stand up and fight back.
Looking back to see how far you have come is fun loving it.
Appreciate you Stevie ! checking in everyday! this my homepage for hiphop yo.
Em was my first rap artist I gravitated to, this whole album was on repeat for much of my childhood. All his crazy wicked shit back then really made me appreciate this style over the generally accepted styles of hip hop.
This was actually a dramatized take of an actual event that happened as a child... when he got attacked in the bathroom by his elementary school bully, D'Angelo... he was knocked out for a while by getting hit with a sock that had a snowball and hard object in the snowball. He had to relearn how to do basic life functions... I know you acknowledged it a little bit but people really should look into the actual event that inspired this song
I love this. A beautiful display of perception. Once you understand the language of technical structures. Respect for tech rappers goes up. I can't listen to a rapper rhyming with one syllable, it hurts my ears
Bro, I been following your videos a while now without being subscribed because I didn’t feel like you were honestly open to actually listening to everything for what it was. Never thought for a second how much I would appreciate you going back to the same reactions you already did and point out the same things I felt should have been and weren’t acknowledged the first time around. I’m officially subscribed and here for it all. Looking forward to your journey.
U going back and appreciating what it was, says a lot about u my guy. Much respect 💯
This whole video was an experience honestly!
Your whole character grown in between just these two videos more than most manage in a lifetime.
Love the channel
Another cool part of this song when we talk about word bending is that section he references in an interview with Anderson Cooper- Talking about everyone says nothing rhymes with "Orange", he then explains that section- "ran to the janitor STOR-AGE- booth, kicked the DOOR HINGE loose , ripped out the FOUR INCH screws, grabbed some sharp objects, brooms and FOREIGN tools, and then finally- this is for every time you took my ORANGE juice. Dude is a genius, hands down.
Love watching ya grow and learn and us growing and learning with ya.
I love this series, the evolution is beautiful stevie! Thank you 👏
Incredible video, it's been enjoyable to see you grow into loving Eminem's work.
Love you bro. I've been listening to EM when I was high school printed lyrics in a library. But when you break down the next shit. Love it. His past shit was simple. New shit is on an another level.
Bro i have so much respect for you!!!! most people can’t do what you do with your breakdowns and most people won’t do what you did with admitting what you did!!! just want to to give you props! this is real man shit here⚡️⚡️⚡️
Stevie is a stan through and through, now slowly these songs are gonna creep on ya and one day you realize you’ve had brain damage or other em songs on repeat for everyday the past week. It gets in your head and youll see at random the chorus playing in your head when your trying to concentrate one something or sleep.
this is the only album i dubbed on tape multiple times in my life. lol. remember dubbin tapes? tape recorder and a boom box. on to play the music and one to record because i couldnt afford the fancy boom box with the 2 tape decks. one of the dopes albums ever made. every song you can picture every line in your head as he says it. being a broke ass white boy with similar experiences, being into rock and rap like i couldnt like more than 2 at the same time. being bullied by small town folk for my interests and the way i dressed. this album resonated greatly with me and half of america. which is why i think this album and em blew up the way he did. he hit 2 sides of the spectrum.
Yo, I love how you have grown on ur understanding of life + personal stuff. Love it bro
It's nice to see you continue to grow and embrace the Genius that we all witness with Eminem. I would like to say that if you're going to revisit these albums, do them in order because A LOT of the songs are a continuation from previous albums. His library is basically one long ass story. Keep up the dope work. Blessings and STAY STRONG!!
So cool you’re going back and relistening. It brings an additional enjoyment when you go in with confidence and anticipation because you know that you actually like the music and appreciate it now, and have a greater understanding of what you’re actually listening for. Can’t wait till you revisit Role model. It’s one of his greatest tracks IMO. And it came from that very first album. And it’s incredible. SSLP is an incredible horrorcore overture of an album that he perfected in Relapse, my favorite Eminem. But you can hear the seeds of what would go on to become full grown future greatness right here in this album.
Man Stevie we got to do some Black Thought Thursdays similar to Marshall Mondays and Weezy Wednesdays...
Can’t wait to watch This later. This is one of my favorite songs!
i love that you look back at your first reactions after getting better understanding, even though the first reaction is understandable lots of people need time to aquire the taste of some eminem styles . cheers man
Over the last few years we have all watched Stevie become the King Stan 😂
Edit: I say that respectfully as a Stan myself.
This is what they call an acquired taste. The more you are exposed, the more refined your pallets develops to enjoy it more. EM is like oysters in that way.
I'm really glad you ran this joint back! It's a classic IMO
The Slim Shady persona essentially represents the dark part of peoples mind, all humans have dark thoughts sometimes to varying degrees, he is vocalizing that to the most extreme. He alludes to this relatively often in his songs.
“I guess there’s a slim shady in all of us”
This is one of your coolest reactions. It is hard to look back at your past work. Especially, like everyone is saying, before your perspective changed. Respect.
I love watching you on this journey my faaaave lol I been rockin wit you since day ONE & as a Em day 1liyefally it's a dopeass thing to watch 💯💯💙
Self awareness 💯. I keep coming back because you consistently admit when you started out wrong or narrow-minded. People can learn from that shit.
D'Angelo Bailey actually sued him for this song and how he was depicted
And lost….and the judge roasted him by rapping the verdict 🤣🤣
Love when you go back and check man !
Fuck sake I haven't been getting videos in my feed from you recently, now I have to binge watch all that ive missed! And so far very gladly! You are an incredible man Stevie Knight.. displaying this kind of growth, reacting to yourself and showing where you were at, to where you are at now. I wish more people were like you. That introspection and growth is what its all about and fuck yeah the way he delivered his message in this song was great, was just listening to it myself and made me think of your reactions!
I remember watching your reactions years ago thinking 'fuck sake stevie your not even listening' 😄 Big up that you can notice this yourself 👌
Same here. So even for someone like me who was listening to Em hardcore through the 2000's and even though I was a fan from the get, there were songs that I revisited like 1 or 2 years later after I'd heard more Em content like The Eminem Show, 8-Mile Soundtrack, Diss tracks, 50/G-Unit collabs/Encore and songs I wasn't crazy about, I started to REALLY appreciate in a different way like "Drug Ballad" & "Remember Me".
His form is so flawless that inevitably you mostly focus on the substance (what he says), that’s how good he was when he started
respect to you adjusting your view bro. love ya SK
Love your evolution!
I LOVE THIS . looking back and acknowledging bias , good shit
Love these self reflection vids
Respect. Understanding and appreciating Em's art is other levels. The goat.
Its very cool to see you humbling yourselfs man.. Takes some balls, and you do it u der the scope of thousands of People on UA-cam. I respect you allot for that man!❤️💯
you are so funny man i absolutely love how genuine you are. keep doin your thing!
I bought SSLP the week it came out but slept on it for a minute and thought he was just a gimmick rapper that MTV was pushing hard and wouldn't last lol.. I quickly fell in love with his rapping style and artistry.. he was hungry on SSLP, it's the only Em album you can listen to knowing he was "broke" when he wrote the lyrics and recorded it (besides Infinite)..
Love your reaction...maybe for adults this song is very childish because they don't really feel it because they are not schoolchildren anymore and they can't appreciate it but imagine if a schoolboy who is bullied listens to this song. it means a lot to them because they experience it, just like me, this song touching my soul
I applaud your look back and move forward. I, too, love your 2.0 reviews. Your initial responses are so similar to the reactions I've gotten from friends I've encouraged to listen to his music. Some actually took the time to really listen. Others looked at me funny afterward. I've sometimes wondered if Eminem's talent is innate or a result of the beating he suffered at age 9 when he spent over a week in a coma. Whichever it was, combined with his rage is what's gifted us with this spectacularly talented artist.
Dude! I love this so much! This is so great. I love this dude. Keep up your shit. This also makes you realize that people can change. This might seem like an insignificant version of that, but it’s not. This is dope.
Bro what you just did is legendary. You personally called yourself out in front of Everybody. I fuck with that!
Exactly why you are my favorite reactor Stevie. You hold yourself accountable.
Gotta let us get that "Hell Breaks Loose" or "Drop the Bomb on em" reaction next week dawg 💯🔥
Great song. Big man for looking back and improving yourself
love it bro!
This is my favorite Eminem song, just because I remember so vividly the storytelling while going to school listening to my Walkman. Cheers Stevie 👍
That’s awesome you went back and revisited this song. It was a favorite for me back then and still is. I’m glad you seen and recognized his genius craftyness even back then. It’s art. He is the Beethoven of our time.
I like how you can go back and critique yourself, and even clown yourself a bit. It shows how you keep an open mind and keep getting better and better with your ear
What he does in this song is insane. The whole vibe and feel of this track is like a cartoon, you can visualize the whole story happening as he raps. Classic!
I love it! Keep up the great work Stevie
I was the same way. When Eminem came out it took me a year of people talking him up for me to check him out. I had completely dismissed him from the outset which was a huge mistake.
This whole album is filled with songs where he just paints this vivid picture as he spits a story at you and just draws you in. I still love this album.
These 2.0 are the best. MORE MORE STEVIE
It’s been a while since I’ve been here (couple of months ) !!!! Heard you a father I’m so happy for you I’ve been watching your videos for some years now ! ❤️sending love from South Africa 🇿🇦
Back then when this first came out, I had just got it because of Dre. I originally listened to the grooved out beats. But those damn lyrics came at ya boi hard as hell and couldn't be ignored. It was "As the World Turns" that really did it for me. I laughed so hard that I had to really pay attention to the rest of the lyrics on the album.
Dope reaction mayne
I appreciate your appreciation for this type of shit. You should really check ‘95-‘96 Mobb Deep. Prodigy was honesty something else bro. Havoc also produced both albums (The Infamous and Hell on Earth.) They were like 19 bro. I think you would dig that shit.
