One of the best channels on UA-cam. I was planning on going back to Greco-Roman Wrestling after the pandemic, but now you've got me thinking Judo!
Did you join judo 🥋?
@@BiggCracc yes. been doing it since almost right after my original comment went up. Very good art.
@@jonatanlj747 yo you must be good by now
@@gagida1829 hahah, I'm okay at it, I wouldn't say good though. Yellow belt, I can do a couple of nice throws and trips, but I have a lot to learn about grip fighting and setups. Even when I manage to secure a good grip, I'm not good enough at off-balancing the opponent to perform a clean throw. Usually.
Would you recommend judo to a 33 year old? No previous training and a bit overweight
Neat, this is handy. I was thinking yesterday I hadn't practiced Hiza Garuma in awhile.
Love frome an egyptian judoka
I am egyptian too
I am a 12 year old judoka 1st kyu or brown belt
@@aasserelzoghby6781 nice
@@jestfullgremblim8002 thanks a lot :)
@@aasserelzoghby6781 yeah, keep it up man!
@@jestfullgremblim8002 thank you
Hope you become a Sensei with a higher than 6th dan
Very similar to the sweep in Muay Thai.
Yep muay Thai and judo seem to go extremely well together, especially in a self-defense context
@@bobfranklin2572 I do both and they go together like peanut butter and jelly
How do you train hiza Guruma safety?
Im a bjj practioner white belt 1 year training i watch your video good stuff from cape town south africa
Can you see this working in wrestling or no-Gi BJJ with a collar tie and bicep tie instead of lapel and sleeve? Can it be adopted?
What I find humorous is hiza guruma is usually thought of as a technique a taller judoka does to a shorter judoka but here your uke is taller than you lol
Thank you Shintaro. Good on you for recognizing the persevering students passion to learn. I love sharing these techniques with my students. Grappling is not my strong suit. I love these videos, my students not so much. But their young, they will.
Wish we had some mats. ( So do my students!)
Awesome video! Could you do a breakdown on Rhondas throw into armbar? Never on UA-cam I could find a explanation on it. I can find videos on the throw and arm bar but not together. Against the fence and in middle of the octagon
Man I would train with you any day Shintaro Sensei.
Hiza Guruma is harder to pull off than Sasae.
Very humble despite the belt, my hiza is not very good looking but it´s a very good technique for self defense for example.
Good tutorial. Sensei, would love to see a video on O Guruma!
Yeah, O guruma is a super cool technique
I just got my yellow belt... I am struggling with Hiza Guruma... Coincidence much? 😂
What's the difference between hiza guruma and sasae?
Where you put the leg, higher or lower
Sasae is considered a “foot stop” hiza garuma is a considered a “knee wheel”
The timing, too. In sasae you block the foot WHILE it's stepping forward so he "trips" with your foot. In hiza guruma you block the knee right BEFORE uke's leg starts to advance.
The Main Thing is The Position of Uke s foot. In HG uke s foot rearward Position. In sasae foot is in Front. I think it was Not a Good Demonstration but the Focus was the Kombination....
Anyone heard of someome with hip labral tears practising judo??
😬
Like with a meniscal tear in your knees, I would be cautious about anything more than Uchikomi.
Good luck
Good stuff as always. I’ve always preferred sasae over hiza guruma because of the ease of the opponents grabbing your blocking foot since it’s fairly high beside the knee. With sasae, the blocking foot is really far down on the ankle and much harder to try and grab. Go judo. 🥋🤙🏾😎
Judo is more than sport
Yes if you do it with a dummy.

Interesting variation with the lapel lock, it's something we do in BJJ for wrist lock or back take and since the end position is ending on side or north south it could be actually be really handy on that situation for a control throw and then pin to finish in a full flowing combo, thanks for the video :)
Have you ever done Taiji pushhands?
That was great
Comments are good for the UA-cam algorithm
Always upvote Hiza Guruma.
My favourite move is ouchi gari but my problem is bringing there left leg forward or square to do the move as most players have there right leg forward please could you do a video on how to get that positioning
This how my acl got blown with hiza guruma
Support from Manchester
I always thought you get the best hiza guruma doing a 'quarter circle' turn and rotating your opponent's body then throwing him towards the 'sleeve grip' side.
oh so its like sasae but u block the knees
What is difference from sasae tsurikomi ashi?
Placement of the foot- in hiza the feet goes on the knee level, in sasae it's lower, on the ankle.
Love the subtleties that make these techniques work. I doubt I'll ever be able to pull them off in sparring or combat but understanding them might help me defend I guess......
Ты молодец. Я даже без перевода понял суть. Моё уважение
If I attack the non controlled sleeve side with Hiza can I still hook behind the knee?
Also maybe ut's a fun video idea to review people's judo videos.
Nice!! Hiza is one of my favs. I like to do a double hiza. I attack on the sleeve side first and when they brace with their right knee forward, I switch it to the lapel side and hit the hiza from there. (considering we are both right/right)
Not sure about your girly hairstyle man
The NPC doesnt seem thrilled. 😜
🔥🔥
Am I just making stuff up in my head or does this chain of moves have a very Bökh/Mongolian Judo/Shuai Chiao kind of feel to it?
Yes keep training!😅
You know I think this is the best judo channel on UA-cam. Many people don’t understand that many throws were put in judo to practice safely, dangerous jujutsu movements. Hiza guruma is one of these. Slowly and carefully, do the basic movement, but push the knee straight backwards. You will injure the knee and they will bend forward exposing their neck for a severe choking attack. For heaven’s sake, no randori with that. Just get the rhythm. There are a great many of these in judo. If you need proof, look at how many throws are in traditional Kodokan judo but how many of those actually score ippon in shiai. Wonderful as always.
Very informative. Thanks for showing that this is a very intricate throw to perform as timing and how much of your body weight you can lever is critical
Sensei say could you make a video explaining which judo throws are mainly reaction oriented and which ones are chiefly action oriented?
Thank you I've been Training 30 years plus I trained in Judo when I was a kid but then got Into more stand up systems until I found combat sambo 12 years ago .Combat sambo is heavily influenced bye Judo so I've decided to go to the source your Judo which has aided my Combat sambo alot thank you I've crossed trained for years I created my own hybrid system with stand up close range middle range long range stand up and ground but especially take downs and throws which can and are highly effective on the street I spent 16 years after leaving the military I did CP work all over the globe Judo is a effective system to nullify a threat to the principle its qwick and it works thank you for demos and tips my hybrid system is Venom Combat it has taken me and my long time Training partner ten years to create venom which has been pressure tested to.e and time again take down and throws is one of the corner stones to the system its My big reveal next weekend thank you for your knowledge and tips helped me alot my respects Karl .✊👊🙏

Awesome ! Thank you for sharing.
"Keep training". Yes.
Decades decades ago when I was a teen, learning judo, that hiza guruma earned me the yellow belt.

hi
Good video
may we get a gold watching and learning from him
In my utmost humble opinion.
“ True Martial Skill is equivalent to death disguised in elegance”
Due to the high level of detail in your tutorials, me and my students are actually capable of implementing the fundamentals of your Judo into our overall MMA curriculum, as we also focus heavily on adapting combat sport specific techniques for self defense purposes, and especially when one integrates the high percentage sweeps and hip throws and one synergistically flows within the different ranges of combat, striking/ wrestling/ grappling/ clinch/ ground, akin to units that completes the whole, truly goes to show how devastating Judo can be, and how the techniques add and compliments one’s overall skill sets.
An honor and joy to be able to learn from such an peer as yourself mr Higashi.
Sincere regards.

Look into kudo instructional on UA-cam. Lots available.

As the uke, this dislocated my right knee due to my right foot getting caught in a fold in the mat. Put an end to my judo career. 🥲
That sounds very ugly.
😬
Hope you still have some mobility. Knees are tricky.
@@eddierayvanlynch6133 Yes, I do, but the injury prompted my interest in kinesiology and biomechanics which significantly helped in later years.
@@prvtthd401 It was. But “luckily”, it happened when I was around 17 y/o, so recovery after surgery was relatively quick.
i did judo in school for one and half year every second tuesday and i know it better! my teachers best friend had a black belt!
