Hi! My name is Christopher Odd and I’ve been playing video games on the internet for a few years. I really enjoy a variety of games but generally lean towards games with a unique and engaging story (Bioshock, The Witcher, Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of Us etc), strategy/roguelike games (XCOM 2 War of the Chosen, Darkest Dungeon, etc), and RPGs (Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Dragon Age, etc). Of course, I am always looking for great indie games too!

I did it on officer, but you have to restart it a few times.
He built food district over seals, so I don't understand what you mean without slaughtering seals.
@@mst4705 the choice that popped near the end says you can slaughter the remaining seals to get a huge boost in food, or sacrifice the elders to reduce food requirements. I chose neither because we had food under control.

I like these first few minutes already. Frostpunk 2 does the best thing a sequel can do: Expand on the original in new, interesting and meaningful ways.

Answering your question. When I was younger, every game was set to max difficulty immediately, and I'd just accept punishment as I Got Gud.
I'm Fitty now, and nowadays, I choose what I feel may be most enjoyable. The more action oriented the game is, the more likely I am to choose normal or even story if it's supposed to be really difficult. For turn based tactics, prolly veteran. I don't play RTS games anymore...got Starcraft nightmares, but if I were to play an RTS, normal would be my choice at first.
I find that I tend to enjoy games the most that have no difficulty settings. They seem to be balanced around all people having fun and being challenging to win/clear for everyone without being unfair. Best example I can think of is Monster Hunter.

As a general rule for myself, I usually play on one difficulty higher than normal to start especially sequels

Hello, Mister Odd! I’m a new fan coming with much love! Throwback time. I just finished watching your first Play through of the Witcher 2. And I’m glad to see your channel still going strong over a decade later! I’m about to start watching your second one, soon to start the Witcher 3 myself, so I can enjoy your let’s play, of that game.
Probably my favorite part of your videos is how you try to read every note and character entry in the game! I’m a big fan of Podcasts and audiobooks, so being able to get Witcher lore through my ears, instead of reading it myself, does so much for me. I also adore how logical your thought process is, also your “Canadianess” is super charming,

Frostpunk is one of my favorite games, can't wait to play the new one!
Depends on the type of game I'm playing, something like this I would go with normal as I want to know what I have to do first, sequel or not... but for RPGs with third or first person, I would start of with hard as I want to have a challange or I'm used to that type of game. Otherwise, if it is too hard, I would go to normal.
I like to go 2nd hardest difficulty. If you start too easily you can pick up bad habits. Plus it usually makes the game last longer if it's more challenging.
Looking forward to this playthrough! The world of Frostpunk was so innovative, can’t wait to see how it has expanded

I'm quite happy that you choose the options you choose (no sacrifice of elders, no seal slaughter, victory). It was fun watching you achieve success here. Honestly victory is more fun for me then added difficulty so on new games I start at either the level they suggest or the easier level if it makes more sense.
I think Elsa is my favorite cold mascot. If I forget about songs being overplayed, I really loved it, her experience resonated with me to a degree, and it was my sister's favorite.

broo... I was literally thinking about this game yesterday thinking I wanted to watch a frostpunk 2 playthrough.
Not knowing it wasn't even released yet, I saw some gameplay a while back so I thought it was out already.
So happy to see my favorite youtuber kick of a playthrough today, going to watch in bed and probably fall asleep in 5 minutes buttttt I'll watch it tomorrow when I come home haha.

Personally if I'm playing a new game I start off on easy until I learn the controls and mechanics then I will switch to normal difficulty and play the game all the way through
i'm liking the move to days and weeks, the kids are actually going to grow up and be more then a number on a sheet that does nothing (if you're playing a morally good person)

Let me backseat for a second. Technically, you are doing the district neighbour bonus wrong. 13:00 With the housing district for instance, the entire district gets the generator bonus, if only 3 tiles of the housing district touch the generator... Meaning, you should not just look at having the districs adjacent, you should also focus on having them EXACTLY 3 tiles adjacent, so more districs can get the bonus by touching more districs.
I hope I explained it in an understandable way, english is not my first language xD okay bye :D

I almost always play my initial play-through of a game on the standard difficulty, as that is the intended experience by the designers.
I really like when youtubers know how to play the game, instead of waisting time in the vid trying to figure it out. Xcom is diferent due to having to figure the best outcome based on the random.
Only read the title, XCOM viewer here. Sacrificing the Elders seems legit to me, they took over the world after all
Also, for every new game I always choose the difficulty above "normal". If the devs put a bunch of work into games mechanics, then I want to play on a difficulty that fully utilizes them. Usually that isn't the case for lower difficulties.
I saw the earlier time drop of XCOM 2 and wonder if you scheduled it incorrectly but now I see why and am looking forward to it.

Eh… I usually just play on normal difficulty when getting into sequels of games i already played for the very first time, as I kinda want to vibe to the setting and story as intended by the devs, ya know?

I think you misunderstood how the heat adjacency works. If you fill the 3 bars of adjacency bonus, the bonus applies then to the entire district. So it's not required to have all 6 housing tiles adjacent to heat bonus tiles. At least that's how I understood it while playing the game.
In a Sequel. I go up a difficulty if the mechanics are the same but just a couple new bells and whistles. I do normal difficulty if they change the main mechanics.
"How do you determine the difficulty?"
Me, mostly a Soulsborne player: "Difficulty selection? Whats that 😂"
Any game that starts out with a Marius (Diablo 2) lookalike has my vote
I usually play either on an easy or normal difficulty. I'm in for fun and plot, not combat and challenges. The easier, the better, because sometimes the easiest mode is also too difficult for me.. When I have enough experience in the game or if it feels too easy, I can dive into a higher difficulty, but I am never, ever into a challenge. Leave that to those who like to suffer. I'm not one of those people when it comes to one of my favourite activity ever, which is video games.
UPD: Unless! There's an achievement I want to go for that requires a certain difficulty. Which is rare, I usually get to know the game first and then try earning the achievements/perfect the game.

A bit odd to assume that this is the only location on earth with a remaining seal population. If you were desperate it seems like a pretty obvious choice to slaughter the seals, rather than let all of the elders go off and die, lol.

Intrigued by this game, always thought the 1st game looked good but never dove in, xcom2 being my fav game and Odd being my fav creator for that means i now have a solid springboard into this game. Lets see if after a couple of vids i get the itch to play myself like i did with xcom2…
