    Good info as ways. Thanks for the video. My go-to is downwind of doe bedding. I hunt the big hardwoods of PA. These deer are tough to pattern and once you find a pattern the wind NEVER blows in one direction on the mountain. It swirls and swirls, so patterns mean even less at that point. Scent control is king.

      I agree and too hunt the PA woods and it drives me nuts when I put in a lot of time and effort in preparation for a hunt and get up in the stand, everything's fine and then you suddenly feel the wind start hitting the wrong side of your head...I just shake me head with a few choice words of course lol.
      I just tell myself that its mother nature pushing deer for me and maybe I'll get lucky and a bruiser will pass by on his way to a different bed better suited for the new wind direction lol...it helps me keep a little of the hope alive haha.
      Good luck out there!

    Thank you for the videos! Will deer travel near roadways? I am new to hunting and live on a river but my property is on the roadside, (fairly busy two lane road), and flat bottoms under the bridge. Thanks again!

      Yep they sure do. They use the road like a wall and parallel it. Some of my best spots are within 50 yards of a road like that.

    I think I have found a solid funnel from a thick swamp to a creek that cuts two hills for bedding. How should I approach this? should I overlook the swamp or set just off of it in this funnel? hardwoods on both sides. I sat about 2/10ths of a mile from this area this morning and had a group of three does come through on a rub line leaving the swamp. this is public land so I want to maximize my outcome but stay aggressive as possible.

      There are alot of variables to this question. Is bedding on the hills or in the swamp. Most likely both. I'd set up on the downwind side of the swamp if the hills are no there and won't swirl your scent back to the swamp. If not an option I'd set up on the leeward side of the hill between 1/3 and halfway from the top where there is something to funnel them or maybe a creek crossing below that allows bucks to cross over and get down wind of the swamp to check it. Find the spot that is going to keep you sage wind wise and yet put the most options for bucks to travel thru as they are scent checking does bedded in the swamp or on the hills if its thick up there.

    Hey I've only been watching you for a couple months I guess and have heard you say you dont care for camo .. why is that

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  6 років тому +4

      A couple reasons. I dont believe it works and is designed to fool our eyes not animal eyes. I also think that 90% of camo is over priced and under quality clothing. and the main reason is i dont have time to put it on. i often hunt whenever i can so alot of times its for 3 hours here or 4 hours mid day, etc. if i had to change clothes and get ready i would loose time so I have always just hunted in what im wearing. And I have never had it be an issue. I can count on one hand how many times I have been busted in a tree in the last 10 years visually. And half the time im in blue jeans and the same hiking shoes i wear everyday and a tee shirt.
      But i do believe in high quaity hunting clothing. and im glad some of these companies are now making them in solids. I would never wear a whole sitka outfit in sitka camo simply because I dont wnat to look like that person. But I would and do wear solid sitka pants and solid kuiu and solid firstlite clothing quite a bit on my my out of state hunts where im in the same outfit for 7-10 days. Hope that answers your question. I have nothing against camo. Just dont see the need and dont like the halo that people place around it or the stigma that is associated with it. in my opinion walmart kahis pants and a plaid shirt work just as good and 1000 dollar camo as far as "camo" factor is concerned.

      Remember the red & black plaid, wool hunting jacket & pants. No camo back then & they still killed deer.

      @@davidschwartz2398 yep. I still believe a bold big contrast pattern will blow the doors off any modern camo pattern in the animal visual world.

      I'm always amazed at how a monotone brown deer absolutely dissolves into the woods, marsh, etc.
