Alright here’s a challenge for you play this with Edgar but it’s called drunken sk8 where you play sk8 against Edgar where every letter you get you have to chug an ive
Manual catch will become second nature just like duel stick controls did. now that big drop landing inputs works with this update I have something new to get use to. it's fun on big drops, makes you feel like you have to stomp your tricks. it's a little weird at first but think kinda like doing a 50-50 but your board is the rail. and you can adjust your impact height in the stats to what you feel is reasonable.
What this game needs the most for me personaly: an online-multiplayer with different servers with individual difficult settings that applys to each player on them.
It depends on your settings, I have late flips on and grinds on “no release” (dunno if that affects it) but basically if I flick to the left, it just does a late flip. If I hold to the left then the board is caught, but also turned by 90 degrees to prepare for a tailslide. So depending on your settings it might not be that simple.
it’s something about the “battle” you speak of that makes me love Manual. Feels more awarding and as the viewer it looks and feels more entertaining because we both know how tech it can get.
Hardest part of manual catch for me was always letting the board fully flip and not panic catching immediately, once you understand the point in the animation you need to input the catch it gets way easier, one thing that helps me is looking at the feet with auto catch and using that to feel out the catch timing.
I think grind alignment on 4 is the most realistic and stable, also recommend turning off “sync flips” under manual catch setting makes flip tricks harder at first, but the extra control on scoop and flick is crazy once you’re used to it.
The thing about 0% grind alignment is that it takes your inertia at 100% value. IRL if you would move towards the rail at the same angle and speed, you can still nail that FS Feeble because you would tilt your body to the right just a bit so that you wouldn't slide all the way to the left of the rail. In game though we don't exactly have that level of control over the skater's body balance so we just slide off the rail like it's bathed with WD-40. You can shift your weight using your legs with the left and right analog stick and that's it.
The direction you flick the stick in to catch depends on what you wanna do. If you wanna catch into manual, you'd push and hold the stick in the corresponding direction you'd need to hold it for a manual with the foot that you're going to balance on if you're using Left/Right settings.
You finally said the one thing I was looking for to actually save up and get this game "you have to battle for your tricks for it to look good" I'm bought
The best thing about session is the settings. Playing on what you think looks and feels the best. You don't have to play with a particular setting on or off just because that's what other players do. Its exactly like real life. Its trendy to have a wider board these days, but if you like a skinny 7.75 popsicle stick board then you do you.
I hope they add animations for bailing like they do in skate 3 cause it’s just weird seeing your skater go full rag doll mode for not catching a flip trick like can I land on my feet and stumble/roll lol
Haven’t played on manual catch yet, still learning the basics. I find clicking the sticks in really awkward though, so happy Session doesn’t involve doing that.
Manual catch is definitely the way to go. I haven't used auto-catch ever since the first kickstarter build that featured manual catch. And the only thing keeping me from doing 0 grind alignment is certain tricks on curved rails. I may be mistaken, but I don't think there's any way to shift your center of gravity back over the rail. You can rotate your body and shift your foot positioning, but as soon as the rail starts curving away, your center of gravity doesn't move with it and pulls you off the rail.
Hardcore mode with no grind alignment has turned this game into what iv always needed. Definitely hard to get my grinds right but now nosesliding handrails from an angle is so satisfying.
I thought this dude was playing how it’s meant to be played all this time 🤣 I’ve been thinking I just suck But nope I’ve had my settings at the most realistic all this time I think it’s way more Fun especially getting lines down going from regular and switch is when you know Your getting better and consistent.
Hardcore grinding will take timing and getting into a good particular line of executing and stability to control the balance and holding the board to landing it clean!
bro I've been playing session for years and never thought I needed to make it harder and use manual catch. not many people enjoy playing games on the hardest settings tbh
So for those of you who don’t know, zero grind alignment physically doesn’t work at all. You have to have it turned up to at least 1 for it to work. Until the devs add in a “balance system”, all grind alignment does is physically push you off the obstacle you’re trying to grind :)
@@WHO-DAT-GUY yes, but 0% grind alignment doesn’t work. The devs have said this themselves. It won’t work as intended until they add a balance system into the game. Sooo wasn’t trying to give you a hard time especially on stream. It’s just sooo much more rewarding with the manual catch. Especially when trying lines.
I'll switch to manual catch when i figure out why my flip speeds are inconsistent. This game is really good at picking up on the tiniest nuances of my inputs that i can't even detect. I'll feel like i'm doing the same thing over and over, but because i'm moving the stick a few microns farther in one direction when rotating the board or a milimeter per second faster flicking a trick, the entire thing comes out differently. It's frustrating because i've played with my stats and board setup as well. Trial and error, just like real skating 😅
Siick . Ur getting better n better each stream and vid u post . It’s dope to see the progress . I also started a new skater playing Manuel catch . And my grind alignment at 3 . And it’s rewarding asf when u land tricks . And like u said when u pop the board right u know u got it . Is such a good feeling with u pop and land it clean asf . Good Shit Garrett. Let’s Gooo!!!
Just an FYI to all. If you have your grinds set to no release, it will make manual catch partially auto catch. Example: if you skate goofy and pop a kick flip, you can keep the left stick down the whole time and it will catch automatically. You can fix this by playing partial or full release on grinds.
I prefer the manual catch controls for session over SXL. Flip tricks just get turned into 3 inputs like kick flips are down on back foot up to the side with front foot then up on the back foot. So basically down, up to the side, up. Tres are down scoop, up to the side then down on front foot, Also Ghetto bird is Nollie Hardflip late 180, modern is all at once and any stance.
Yo GARRETT!! since you skate goofy. Try doing a hard flip, then bringing the analog sticks toward each other for a steezy catch, it looks so much more realistic
I'm staa-ruuggling with manual catch. But I'm on a new save dedicated to finishing the story in hardcore mode, solely for the Steam achievement, lol. But once that's done I think I'll go back to auto. Manual is more realistic, but auto is just more fun imo. One less thing to worry about.
Flipping into grinds, you really don't even need to think about "manual" catch. It's the same input as auto because when you flip into a grind on auto, you still have to catch the trick and do an input for the grind. So nothing really changes there. It mostly changes when doing flat ground, gaps, etc. Also, you can flick either way (up or down) to catch the board, but if you flick the other way, it just puts pressure on the nose/tail, which makes more sense for tricks where you want to catch the nose/tail (manuals, nosegrinds, tailslides, bluntslides, etc.). Also be on the lookout for the upcoming "balance" feature they will supposedly be adding, that'll be a new twist on the grind alignment. And regarding the ghetto bird thing: It's rarely thought of as such, but all a ghetto bird is, is a nollie bs bigflip but the 180 is late. But since the game doesn't count late 180's, it doesn't register as a "ghetto bird". But a "modern" ghetto bird doesn't require the 180 to be late, just like irl, so the game registers it as such. That being said, I'd love the game to register late 180's lol
Yo can some one plz help?? Im trying to do a 180 ollie into a smith grind but i keep messing up the input and ive tried every input i could think of including the one in the trick guide but no luck. Basically starting the trick on regular stance, then 180 into goody and smith grind. Help plz?

you're rotating the wrong direction for the ghetto bird. a ghetto bird is a nollie hard flip and the 180 rotation you do is opposite the direction of the flip trick if that makes since
I agree that zero grind alignment isn't actually very realistic, while sure there's no "grind alignment" in real life, the fact is that in real life you have much more precision with your feet and weight than you do with a controller in the game. A decent skater could lock in a feeble with much more consistency in real life than a decent Session player with zero grind alignment. Slipping off constantly like the rail is made of ice doesn't feel real. 2-4 is the sweet spot imo. Glad to see you in manual catch, I played about an hour on auto and then switched to manual knowing I'd want to do it eventually and its so worth it. Way more satisfying to nail even the most basic lines.
