    I love how Ares thought he stood a chance against Hades. Like dude, that is your uncle, the eldest son of the King of the Titans and Ruler of the Underworld, you frankly don't stand a chance here.

      Eh he does tbh and even in mythology he stood up against like Poseidon (due to one of Poseidons sons r@ping Ares daughters) and got it away with it and didn’t even hesitate to do the act. It’s why this scene is kinda bothersome more since out of all the gods the one who didn’t have any fucking Sus allegations was ares and he was even known to be a defender of women.

      @@Shauntheduke. Yeah I felt the same re Ares being shown as a creep. If there was a male Greek god that defended women, it was Ares. But him trying to take on Hades, an elder god who fought Titans and giants alike...that smackdown from Hades and basically cratering him into the earth was awesome.

    *Fun fact:* In Greek Mythology, Ares never forced or attempted to force a woman to sleep with him. He was one of the only Gods who never did. In fact, he actually hated that more than anything.
    Also, it's hilarious to think that he actually thought he stood a chance against his Uncle Hades in this fight. The firstborn son of Titans Rhea and Cronus, eldest the three Supreme God Brothers and Lord of the Underworld.😂😂🤣🤣
    He should be thankful that Persephone stepped in when she did, otherwise if she didn't, he'd be staying with his uncle in the Underworld for all of eternity.

      Also, regarding the Greek mythology, Hades kidnapped Persephone to the Underworld, and he tricked her to eat the food from this place, to ties Persephone to this realm.
      In contrast to Blood of Zeus, in that Persephone accepted to be with Hades for her own volition, to the point of ate the food of the Underworld to prevent that Demeter could separates her from Hades.

    3 things I like about this scene:
    1. They dropped the whole "Hades is evil" thing. In myth, he never was particularly bad.
    2. They showed Hades as very powerful. He is the oldest of the three brothers (Poseidon, Zeus and Hades) and should be depicted as mighty.
    3. They showd Ares as someone who likes a good fight.

    Thing is, Persephone was NOT a goddess of nature: that is a relatively modern retcon. In all of the old myths, she is Dread Persephone, Queen of the Underworld. In fact, she is typically given prominence over her husband in iconography and is shown in front of Hades, the more important of the two. This seems to have been due to Hades ruling the land of the dead, but Persephone being the one who decided where you would stay, so keeping her happy was key to a good afterlife. That was the whole point of her cult at Eleusis: to get on the Dread Lady's good side.

    • @gaiusjuliuscaesar9902
      @gaiusjuliuscaesar9902 4 місяці тому +16

      One needs to be careful when making sweeping statements about Greek mythos, especially when each Greek state had their own myths. However, in most cases, Persophone was not the more prominent, but the more feared. The reason being she had a terrible temper (see the story of Mynth), and could easily sway Hades to violence (See Pirithous) or benevolence (see Orpheus). She was one of the few things Hades cared about, and he was largely dispassionate about anything else except his job, dog(s), and horses. The three judges decided your quality (sometimes your fate) but Hades sat above them, and could condemn or forgive, he just usually didn't care to, because again, he didn't meddle in most mortal affairs. So the times he did was usually when Persophone requested it of him. Why? Because Hades was one of the few examples of a good spouse. So much so that pottery featuring Hades and Persophone were common gifts at weddings.
      Sadly, modern writers see fit to make them have an abusive, or unwanted, or strained relationship, when at the end of the day, Persophone was one of the few things that made Hades happy, in a pantheon full of infidelity, scheming, and betrayal. To not even get into the worst things done by Poseidon and Zeus to their own family members.

      The Greeks DID have her as their Spring Goddess for a very long time. Yes, more older myths had her as the Queen of the Underworld without Hades, but not all of Greek saw her like that. Myths and stories of a society as large as Greece is DO change

      In the religions of the Orphics and the Platonists, Kore is described as the all-pervading goddess of nature who both produces and destroys everything, and she is therefore mentioned along with or identified as other such divinities including Isis, Rhea, Ge, Hestia, Pandora, Artemis, and Hecate. Let's be clear. Hades vs Ares isn't a fight. More accurate fight would be Hades vs Poseidon where Hades effortlessly defeats Poseidon. It is heavily implied that Hades can take out both Zeus and Poseidon in 2v1 if it came to blows. They gave Hades the underworld because it was the hardest job. The said, Hades is extremely chill. There are very few stories about him. For the most part, he does his job and doesn't complain. So it is pretty clear the writers wanted a reason to have him flex. One of Hades notible traits is that he treats Persephone as an equal. He never cheats on her. In the origin story Hades asked Zeus what he should do about Persephone. Zeus said, "you should kidnap her". The entire point of the story of Hades and Persphone is that he considers her an equal partner, which is unheard of in relationships of the Gods. The funny part is that Zeus keeps telling Hades he could do better and doesn't understand why he is loyal to her. One thing they got correct, Demeter is the absolute worst.

    I think Ares will have a character arc in the third season. He will start off immature but grows to become wise and pragmatic as he is in Greek Mythology. Plus, this event might be before he sired the Queen of the Amazons, respected women, and dated Aphrodite (to Hephaestus' chagrin).
