As a Malaysian Chinese, people here eat this every lunar new year, at least once, you will eat this dish many times, and I am no where sick of it because you only get to eat it once a year. And a bit more info about the mixing, everyone uses their chopsticks to toss and mix it up, while wishing each other a prosperous life and that, or maybe wishing the children to do well in their studies. Each ingredient in the dish represents something but I can't remember them well, however I do remember what the fish represents, it represents prosperity as in the saying, 年年有余, (nián nián yǒu yú), the word for fish "鱼" yú sounds similar to the "余 yú" in the saying, and the saying means to wish someone to have extra money or food every year, wishing a prosperous life.
Happy Lunar New Year. Thanks for giving a shoutout to Malaysia and Singapore, and the dish looks colourful and a good match to the in-game dish. Some more information about the real life dish: - Yu sheng is tied specifically to the LNY festivities so people hardly ever eat it outside of this period. You can, if you wish to, but it’s not commonly done. A bit like how you wouldn’t really eat roast turkey outside of Thanksgiving. - Yu sheng’s ingredients are selected more for meaning than for taste, and include things like pickled ginger, candied turnip, candied citrus peels, candied pomelo, sesame seeds, crushed peanuts, and crackers. You can add other things as well, but really shouldn’t miss out on the seeds and nuts in particular because of their symbolic meaning. - You’ve got the main flavours in as seasoning. I suppose it would end up tasting the same anyway, but traditionally, the pepper and five spice powder, plum sauce and sesame oil are added separately. - Each ingredient or step has a corresponding … phrase tied to it, based on a homonym of the ingredient name with a lucky meaning. - to serve, the entire table gathers around and tosses the salad while wishing LOUDLY for prosperity and luck in the coming year.
恭喜發財 to you too ChefMar. Sorry for the late comment, I do try to keep up on your channel as best I can, but sometimes I fall a little behind. Congratulations on the recognition! That's a great sign that you've matured as a content creator, and I'm so proud of you.
Congrats on your monetization! First i found your channel when i was hospitalized coz of cvid, but then i saw your video making foods from series and genshin, it looks so delicious! However havent try to recook your recipe but i hope i will one day 🤣 and happy lunar new year!
Since you are not supposed to eat it on your own, allow me to lou shang virtually with you, and may the properity and happiness flourish in your lives. Happy Luna New Year Chef.
Congratulations on getting monetized on youtube! It's about time, tbh, you really deserve it. And, as always, my suggestion is going to be Klee's Specialty/Fisherman's Toast. If nothing, at least I am dedicated.
Congratulations and Happy New Year. May the the Year of the Tiger be auspicious for you. Edit: Ignore this paragraph, I'm a derp. This is the first month you are monetized? I swear, every year YT makes it harder and harder for content creators to get revenue, while bulking up on 20 minute+ ads for their own pockets... Grumble mumble. As for growing the channel, I tend to say one should not mess with a good thing. That said, I feel growth should be organic and play to strengths. You have already shared the real world origins and comparisons for some game recipes, perhaps a deeper dive into either the cultural significance of certain ingredients or culinary techniques. Perhaps in a series of fried foods, have a generalized episode on frying where you showcase a common ancestor dish of several you have shown recently? But perhaps that is too obscure for some fans? I'm a foodie and a historian, so that would be exactly what I find interesting, without simply jumping on the Townsends or Tasting History ect... Food + History trend.
@@ChefMar more less just in quarters or 8ths right down the middle. Not the most efficient method but you get a little more out of it by not cutting off the top or bottom. Your way is MUCH quicker though. No seeds to deal with.
This lantern rite is bittersweet for me since my boyfriend and I broke up, but I got so excited seeing the new recipe come out. I actually didn't look at it and cook it right away in game to make it a point and get surprised since I figured you'd probably do a video for it. Was not disappointed♡
for my family potlucks, my aunt usually makes the yusheng! she uses salmon for the fish, and puts less veges and no fruit as far as im aware but she puts cornflakes for some crunch! i used to never eat it (or only eat a Tiny bit) since i found the raw fish unappealing, but i'm trying to teach myself to enjoy sashimi and this is one of the ways i do it! i'd really like to see you make tamagoyaki egg roll (or sara's specialty version of it) if you haven't made it already! if you could make the unagi chazuke that would be really cool to see as well :)
Happy Lunar New Year! The only suggestion/want I have for improvement is, maybe go a little into the history or add more interesting facts about the base dish some of these in game dishes are based on.
I love watching your cooking vids!!! Your instructions are always neat and straight to the point ❤️ I would like to suggest Animal Crossing New Horizon food recipes ? Would love to see your own take on it 🥺💕
@@ChefMar i can suggest for a more iconic ACNH recipe is the Roost Sablé cookie, but my personal favorites visually are all the Gnocchi, Curry, and soup recipes, one id like the most is Bread Gratin! (Its a type of bread soup bowl, a secret recipe from the previous Turkey day event)
In central Europe, you'd pay an arm and a leg for a fish and it already smells bad! Do you live near a coast, or how did you get a fish that one can eat raw without killing yourself in the process? Also, how to avoid parasites? PS: the best fish I've ever eaten was in Lisabon, Portugal. A fancy three part menu cost less than some junkfood take away in Germany and don't get me started on Switzerland...
Hey there, I'm once again asking if it's possible to make that Squid Ink Curry from Animal Crossing New Horizons. I know I mentioned it before in a previous video but I really think it might turn out good.
HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR EVERYONE!! Here's a dish based on a real life Lunar New Year dish called Yu Sheng. Hope you guys enjoy!

Oh that's cool. So everyone mixes it together wishing? Like blowing a cake? That's fun.
@@ChefMar yeah it's kind of like blowing a cake, it's pretty fun tossing everything around and enjoying it with your family after

Extra info: We also call this 捞生 as in 捞 to fish out or pull up, 生 as in fresh or 鱼生(Raw sliced fish/shashimi) and add that to Termori's info.
Yes- u have to yell good wishes in chinese while throwing (kind of pulling it) the food in the air as high as possible with chopsticks basically-
