Guilford Central School (Vermont, USA) Chorus was happy to sing in this Community Project, as we did with Diggy Diggy Hole. Looking forward to the next one. Bravo, all.
The people holding pictures and mementos of their loved ones just added more weight and beauty to it, and made the whole thing feel more important, as a tribute to them as well. Being a part of this was an honor, this song means the world to me and I hope this version resonates to even more people. We need to make sail for the dawn, no matter how dark it gets.
I’m sobbing, I lost two good friends within 5 years of each other, I found this song for the first time after coming home from one of their funerals in 2021. I’ve tried to end my own life before to be with them again, but I know I have to stay. They want me to live, I have an incredible wife and friends who support me and I’m here for the long run. If you’re struggling right now, please remember that recovery _IS_ possible
I know no one's going to read this.. but I think it's fair to myself to share about this, and how much this community project meant to me. 2024 has been generally terrible for me, what I'd love to call my breakdown year. Things don't go my way almost every single day, I just felt like I am alive just because I am alive, and I planned to not outlive 2024. Attempted it twice because of how much was on my plate and wanted to attempt it on a certain date again.. until I got the notification for this community project.. and the crazy part is: it's Bones in The Ocean. It's the first original I heard from TLJ, and I loved the song so much. So I thought, "you know what? I'll give this a go. I'll wait till January when this releases and see if I still want to not outlive 2024" Took some tries, maybe an hour of recording in a pretty hot room before I submitted. Got to admit, I did get emotional for the first few tries, and had to delete them because they simply sounded terrible. If this is going to be the last thing I badly want to do, it has to be at the best of my abilities. Then, something happened. Still terrible days, but UA-cam recommended Hard Times Music Video from you all, and I clicked into the music video listened and watched it plenty of times till I memorized the lyrics. And then a few weeks later, I got 4 good news in a week. 4 good things happening in a week. Hard Times immediately sprung to my mind, and had I not participated in this community project and wanted to see it, I would have said goodbye to the world and NOT experienced that week filled with joy. So thank you. That week changed my mind, and that week only existed BECAUSE of waiting for this one. I've since seeked help, and it will be a tough journey. But I will get there
I did read it😊 And I'm so glad you are here! Hard times will happen and good ones will too. We gotta be here for each other when the bad times hit. We will get through them together ✌️🩵💙
Sending you ALL the love, and thank you for sharing such a raw and honest story. I'm simply blown away that our music could have such an impact, and it truly means the world to hear. Really glad to hear you've since been getting help and you're turning a positive corner! Big love and hugs from all of us here at TLJ HQ
As someone who first discovered The Longest Johns while shielding from Covid, which kept me apart from my beloved brother for the last year of his life, I totally relate. It's been a rotten past couple of years too for a lot of people with the terrible things happening in the world, but however low you are, it's important to remember there is always something around the corner worth living for. Hang on out of curiosity, or sheer determination not to miss out on the next great experience. It must be amazing to be part of these Community Projects. Thank you for pushing yourself to create your part in it. Take care of yourself, always.
I was a bit too distracted by the noise around me during the premiere (I was on a bus, shortly after landing in the UK), so it was hard to listen properly. But I've listened a few more times now, and it's really just as beautiful as I had hoped it would be. Lovely song, lovely people singing it. Well done everyone ❤
Hey girl, I was trying really hard to find you and some other folks I know on the screen but just too many faces on the screen, lol. Planning on many more rewatches so perhaps I'll see you then! It really turned out so beautiful. I think the community projects are one of my favourite things ever that a musical groups has done. I'm sure your video/audio recording submission was beautiful and turned out very nice. Hope you're doing alright 😊 ETA Found you! 😃 1:58 Sending a hug across the distance. 🫂 I miss all my "Longest Johns" friends.. my work schedule's changed and I haven't been able to catch live streams like before. It's okay, though. I've made my peace with it. Really amazing to see all the hundreds of TLJ fans singing in this community project
This song reminds me so much of my late grandfather. He was a sailor, a navy man, and one of the most influential people of my life. I always feel his hand on my shoulder when I hear this song. Thanks for letting me take part, and I wish you all fair winds and following seas.
Do the next one! Trust me when I tell you my voice by itself is not great at singing (I listened to my own recording) but melded together into the mass of voices it does not matter one bit!
I somehow missed that there's a mailing list for these until now, so I've been a fan for almost a decade and I'm finally looking forward to the next project. You can do it too!
i love this song so much, i'm so, so glad i was visible briefly at the end! 2:29 i'm the girl in the sailor dress with a candle. it was neat seeing that a few other people decided to hold fake candles for their recordings!
Heard the song for the first time on the jingle jam stream, I was deeply moved by it. I assumed it was an old passed down shanty and was shocked to find out it was an original! I like the slower pace of this version (and the stream version) compared with the original recording
I absolutely love looking for all the little things people show up as; I see two furries, two pokemon plushes, several pirates, someone wholesale in a rowboat, a dragon with a sword, several families, a children's choir, a skeleton, a blinding red light, a Tiefling, and loads of incredible people singing!
I guess this is as good a time as any to admit that I thought the lyric was “For John” instead of “Forge On” for a WHILE… But this really was beautiful, and I was glad to have been a part of it.
Same here, that is my Today I learned. Had no idea it was "and forge on". I never gave a second thought to wonder who John was in "As my comrades call to stand fast for John."
I love those community projects, they all have a little magic something that I enjoy so much. Always lovely to see a wild diversity of people singing (or signing), living proof that despite our origins, age, status, health, and everything else that makes us different, we can all work together and create wonderful things.
I always love looking at what people in these are doing in their frames, there's always someone who's up to something interesting. Someone was rowing a boat, another was knee-deep in a creek, and so many people have dressed up thematically (the amount of people who have tricornes and bicornes ready to go is amazing :D)
As soon as I saw the inbox go up, I knew I couldn’t waste this opportunity. I tried to take my own life a few times in the past few years. Raising awareness has been a goal I strive to complete. Thank you for making this amazing community project so well done and thank you to everyone who made it so.
I decided to dedicate my part to my dad, who I lost sometime between the announcement for the event and when I recorded it. this was actually my first of these I was a part of, and seeing myself, and the hundreds of others with their own stories and challenges, was nothing short of inspiring. This one's for you, dad, I miss you every day. Our souls, one day, together, will be.
This was a special one. You look at everyone here and you can see folks both young and old. The choir class, families. Sailors. People in uniform. Some holding mementos of loved ones. It's very meaningful.
This has all come together beautifully & the harmonies sound wonderful. I am so touched at how it has helped some people who have been desperately struggling to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Don't give up. Good times are coming. May God bless & keep you strong. X
Doesn't matter how many times I hear this song, I tear up every time I listen to it. I think it has to be TLJ's best work, not for lack of very strong competition. The fallen crew wanting something BETTER for the narrator than the fate that befell them. The realization that even amongst the inner storms and turmoil, dying there isn't the answer. The hopeless, exhausted tone transforming into the acceptance of what happened and the reassuring knowledge that he'll be reuinted with the ones he misses when the time comes... This masterpiece of a song makes me emotional every single time.
This is easily one of if not my favorite song you've all sung and it's wonderful to hear it so many new voices, though the original simply can not be replaced in my opinion. That side, what a genuinely fantastic rendition to all of you. :)
We did it everyone!! Wonderful job, and with everyone here we’re like the ghost choir of the sailors, reminding the main singer to keep living and sail towards the dawn. Thank you so much to The Longest Johns and everyone who participated, as well as the fellows who edited this amazing project! Much love, keep sailing! 🩵
What a joy to be able to sing with all of these very fine people even if we have never met. So happy to be part of this community, sending love to you all
Thank you once again TLJ for facilitating these beautiful projects for us to take part in, especially songs like this or the Worker's Sing, which carry particular weight! Can't wait for the next one! I'd like to through the Chemical Worker's Song in for consideration, and it's also been a while since we did a sea shanty methinks!
So very happy that I was part of this project. Ty for picking this song. I needed this so much more than I thought I needed. Ive had to use 988 2 times ion the past 6 months...and they have been true life savers.
Even when things are hard, this song helps remind me that I am living proof it really does get better. Being a part of this was a really cool experience. Internet hugs to everyone ❤
Wonderful job everyone. Me and my Mum did seperate submissions, and ended up only a few suares apart, which is cool. I'm gonna take my time feeling emotional about this song now.
I had a part in this!!! So amazing to hear my favourite song this way! Also I myself was kinda in “the hole” if you understand, and this song had a massive part in helping me out. To sing in this means more to me than anything, as this song just might have saved my life. I thank anyone who reads this, and I sincerely hope you are doing well. If you aren’t I hope you get better, and know that someone is there for you, or thinking about you. If you need any help, the ending screen has a lot of resources that believe me will help you. Cheers! :D
I heard this live some time ago and it left me speechless. This song never fails to stir something within me. A deeply human song of loss and guilt, but finding hope beyond those feelings, even if its just a sliver. Hats off to the LJ for this moving song and the perfect mixing of every talented person who got to be a part of this. And thank you to the 1000+ people who contributed! Sail on!
Thank you so much for doing this; it's stunning. This song has got me through some very difficult times, and hearing hundreds of voices together touches me in ways I can barely express. Thank you, too, for the resource numbers. You are wonderful!
Playing this on the ship pa system. The crew on the bridge with me is singing along. Old sailors are awesome to work with Greetings from the ss Arthur m. Anderson
That's amazing. As someone who participated in this, it's weird to think of where it's viewed. So glad I submitted to be a part of this! That's one awesome old ship you're greeting us from, btw.
A bit bittersweet Dave wasn't here for the community project version, but it's understandable since he's doing his own thing. Forever grateful he blessed us with such a lovely song. Everyone sounded amazing together! (Also, RIP your editor)
I'm so glad I got to be a part of another beautiful community project. This one feels extra special and emotional. This community is such a wonderful thing to be a part of ❤
As the resident Helldiver in this project this song holds so much weight Losing my old man a couple years ago, hurt like hell, needed to hear this song more than a few times to help clear my mind ever since.
Been having a rough time lately, I am finding enjoyment in my circumstances while my friends, family and those I care about struggle to find their way in a sense. Even now doubting if I even have found my way in the world,. but been digging deep to not give in and to always find joy in life no matter the gloom it may seem. Amazing stuff as always with these community projects, can't wait to hear the next one.
This was absolutely beautiful fantastic work everyone who contributed I was just now thinking about when the next community project was going to happen. Then found this and that it just recently happend and of my favourite song too, fantastic work again everyone truly a fantastic video.
Thank you for ending with a way for folks to reach out if they're in need. The longest johns have been a constant source of happiness in my life ever since I stumbled upon them some 5 years ago now.
Honored to have contributed to this masterpiece. Thank you Longest Johns for always giving me a reason to smile every day. So thankful to have met you guys in Salt Lake City!
I lost my brother in 2020. The hope in this song and the decision to choose life are things I hope will change someone's mind when they're struggling. I was proud to contribute. To anyone out there doubting, someone loves you, whether you know it or not.
I'm so, so happy that I got to be a part of this!! It's such a deeply touching song, and to sing it with so many others is a joy and an honor ^_^ (Also if you pause at 1:54 and look at the middle-left, you'll find someone dressed as Thranduil. I only know this because my little square is just a few spaces away and I was scouring the video to find it lmao)
It was once again such a privilege to be part of this! Thank you so much for putting this together! The harmonies (especially at the end) are so beautiful! 💙
The announcement for this project came about a couple of months after my dear Molly passed on, and while this song always struck me while thinking about my own struggles, now it reminds me of her, thank you for that.
Wow. This song has had quite the journey, and it's great to see it bring the community together. I can't imagine how amazing it would be to be invited to one of these. Incredible!
I'm speechless at the beauty of this emotional community project. Adequate does not start to cover this awesome song with all the people who have taken part. You are truly admirable!
so, so beautiful! this is one of my favorite songs of yours and it's just perfect as a community project, thank you for another opportunity to be part of one
😭this song was meant to be a community project I feel. All this
voices on the chorus…god it hits hard.
It really does bring it into a whole new level. Incredible job from everyone who took part

I can't emphasize that enough as well. I saw the notification and started crying as soon as I heard it and saw myself. ❤
Absolutely lovely, can’t get over how beautiful it sounds with a full choir. That harmony at 2:39 gave me chills
It is particularly magic, isn't it?

I can’t stop crying this is so beautiful, I’m so glad this song was chosen, it’s so meaningful to me, and it works perfectly with 1000 people 💖
Heard the song for the first time on the jingle jam stream, I was deeply moved by it. I assumed it was an old passed down shanty and was shocked to find out it was an original! I like the slower pace of this version (and the stream version) compared with the original recording

I also found waldo 😂
A happy joy to be a pirate crew members singing in the ocean sea with a lonely ship.
I guess this is as good a time as any to admit that I thought the lyric was “For John” instead of “Forge On” for a WHILE…
But this really was beautiful, and I was glad to have been a part of it.
Close enough :)

Been having a rough time lately, I am finding enjoyment in my circumstances while my friends, family and those I care about struggle to find their way in a sense. Even now doubting if I even have found my way in the world,. but been digging deep to not give in and to always find joy in life no matter the gloom it may seem.
