A Simple Plan is a cinematic masterpiece. I recall seeing it in theaters when I was a senior in high school and have always loved it. A great morality tale showing what even the lowliest of blue-collared people can be capable of. The love of money is truly the root of all evil. I got this from B&N and watched it immediately. Love love love this movie!
I forgot all about A Simple Plan... I'll have to pick that one up (especially after hearing your glowing review... I haven't seen it since it first came out). Great stuff Ken!
I'm definitely buying A Simple Plan! I absolutely love Sam Raimi, and I've only seen it once on DVD, so i'm very excited to watch it again! I already bought the Elvira bluray, so that's more than good enough. Not every movie needs a 4k upgrade.
100% agree that A Simple Plan is easily Sam Raimi's forgotten masterpiece. I saw it 2 years ago for the first time and was blown away. Also makes me realize how good Billy Bob Thornton was as an actor before he got type cast as those drunken "Bad Santa" type roles. Slingblade rules.
Great description Ken of a Simple Plan! I remember years ago I rented it at Hollywood video, not knowing if it was going to be good or not and by the end of the movie I was blown away and knew one day I would have to own that movie! I had a mini dvd collection going at the time way before I upgraded to bluray and then 4k. It's so funny I seen your video up tonight talking about the Arrow video releases because I literally just purchased a Simple Plan a few hours ago! It is an absolute instant classic and a keeper for life! Every now and then we stumble across a movie like you said that we say was a good movie, that was a great movie and then we are blown away by a classic movie and that one is in every sense of the word! Thanks again for all you do and the hard work you put in each and every day because it is always greatly appreciated! Keep up the great work Ken!
I watched a simple plan for the first time in the summer. For whatever reason I really wasnt into the movie. I can see why people like it. Maybe I was just having a bad day or tired or something. Looking at my letterboxd I only gave it a 6/10. I'll have to give it another chance now the 4k is out at somepoint.
I knew you would love A Simple Plan. One of my favorites. Saw it on dvd not long after release and it blew me away. I have thought and said for years why the F has nobody mentioned this gem! Raimi's best hands down. Always felt like a Coen Bros film. Took them long enough for a damn blu ray. Pre ordered immediately. Saw only 1 reaction to it on YT
I agree, A SIMPLE PLAN kind of blew me away as well. Was not expecting it to be so engrossing. But to me, FARGO is far superior and an actual masterpiece. One of the tightest scripts ever written.
Chelcie Ross who played Sheriff Carl in A Simple Plan, was in a bunch of good ones including The Majestic with Jim Carrey which is one of Jim's best IMO
I love the Elvira film. I only had the ancient barebones DVD release so this was a must upgrade. I remember seeing the Invasion in the theater when it came out but I can't tell you a single thing that happened in it.
A Simple Plan is based on the book of the same name. The book is EXCELLENT and expands on what happens in the film. I have owned the DVD forever so happy to here about the blu ray limited edition.
Invasion is great! People just shit on it because of how great the first two are. But on its own, without the connection to the earlier versions it’s great.
Invasion had a troubled post production. Either it was recut or new footage was shot. It would have been interesting if they included that initial version.
I realized I have a Simple Plan on DVD. I gave it a watch. It looked pretty good for a DVD and I really enjoyed the movie. I don’t feel like I need the 4k right now but maybe down the road.
Too bad Bridget Fonda stopped acting. Miss seeing her in movies. She has an amazing body of work, though. I'd recommend watching the underrated It Could Happen To You, with Nicolas Cage. A sweet, wholesome romantic comedy. But everything she did is worth seeing.
This movie is definitely not as good as Fargo in my estimation. The score and the cinematography elevate it and the dialogue give it a unique flavor. Fargo that is. I’m a huge fan of the evil dead trilogy so no way I’m gonna say this is his best movie. I know you know quick and the dead but do you like for love of the game too? I love every raimi movie except crime wave spider man 3 and never seen seen dr strange
I’ve only seen both once I think. It’s been a long time but I recall liking simple plan lot more. But I do like blanchet more now so who knows. I’ll be waiting for the arrow for that too I think
I couldn't watch A simple plan. I stopped after first hour, brother and his friend are too dumb for me, doesn't fit the tone of movie. Fargo works with dumb characthers because movie tone is funny.
Yeah, you're basically watching Bill Paxton have to coexist with a couple village idiots and things keep going bad due to stupid choices by all the main characters. The movie's annoying to watch.
Always loved snowy settings. Misery, Fargo, Runaway Train, Groundhog Day etc

OMG Invasion of the Bodysnatchers 1978!!! CLASSIC! MUST SEE!
Amen!
I forgot all about A Simple Plan... I'll have to pick that one up (especially after hearing your glowing review... I haven't seen it since it first came out). Great stuff Ken!
I told you "A Simple Plan" was great. Kinda envious this is your first time. It's among Paxton's best.
Love the slipcover artwork on 'A Simple Plan'!
A Simple Plan is awesome. It was filmed near where I grew up so I have that connection with it too.
Also love The Edge with Anthony Hopkins
I'm definitely buying A Simple Plan! I absolutely love Sam Raimi, and I've only seen it once on DVD, so i'm very excited to watch it again!

A Simple Plan is kind of like the holy grail of hidden gems.
Glad A Simple Plan is getting love. Doubly glad you enjoyed it. BBT kills it and Paxton gives his best performance IMO.

I like it more than Fargo too. Fargo is still up there along with No Country, Millers Crossing, Blood Simple etc

The Faculty is basically Invasion of the Body Snatchers
But in school and naked villain.
I knew you would love A Simple Plan. One of my favorites. Saw it on dvd not long after release and it blew me away.

Elvira has 2 amazing scenes throughout the movie lol
78 Invasion of the Bodysnatchers is a masterpiece. You definitely need to check that one out.
I saw this years ago when it first came out on video. I own the DVD but definitely upgraded to 4k.
Love this film.
Definitely one of Raimi’s best.
Got 'The Invasion' and 'A Simple Plan' - both great discs and overall releases.
I agree, A SIMPLE PLAN kind of blew me away as well. Was not expecting it to be so engrossing. But to me, FARGO is far superior and an actual masterpiece. One of the tightest scripts ever written.
I feel like a simple plan has tighter pacing and more effective suspense. But Fargo has more personality.
Looking forward to seeing simple plan in 4k just watched it recently on paramount plus really a good movie
YES!!! Thank You Ken for the great review for A Simple Plan. I really knew you would love this movie. It's in my Top 5 best of all time.
A Simple Plan and Frailty are Bill Paxton’s best performances. If you haven’t seen Frailty check that out too!
Misery and Groundhog day are awesome movies
I’ve been loving a Simple Plan since the 90’s . No release in the UK yet so will have to import
Chelcie Ross who played Sheriff Carl in A Simple Plan, was in a bunch of good ones including The Majestic
with Jim Carrey which is one of Jim's best IMO
Invasion from the 1970s was the best one out of the 4 versions.
True, but I enjoy all 4 versions.
I love the Elvira film. I only had the ancient barebones DVD release so this was a must upgrade. I remember seeing the Invasion in the theater when it came out but I can't tell you a single thing that happened in it.
Trouble with the Curve is good one too with Clint Eastwood
A Simple Plan is based on the book of the same name. The book is EXCELLENT and expands on what happens in the film. I have owned the DVD forever so happy to here about the blu ray limited edition.
Grab it. Excellent release!
The 1956 version of ''THE INVASION OF THE BODY-SNATCHERS'' will always be the best of the trilogy.
There’s 4
I'm a fan of the Invasion of body snatchers movies and bought the Invasion Bluray when it came out. I liked it, but I wouldn't upgrade
Invasion is great! People just shit on it because of how great the first two are. But on its own, without the connection to the earlier versions it’s great.
Ken, have you seen Dolores Claiborne?
I hope they release Kafka , that's another good hidden gem never mentioned. Seek it out
Invasion had a troubled post production. Either it was recut or new footage was shot. It would have been interesting if they included that initial version.
It was a pineapple lol
I realized I have a Simple Plan on DVD.
I gave it a watch. It looked pretty good for a DVD and I really enjoyed the movie.
I don’t feel like I need the 4k right now but maybe down the road.
Better than Fargo? Damn. I have yet to see it. Been on preorder but cant wait to see it because it looks good
I got Elvira. Probably won’t watch until Halloween season
It is called Lionsgate Limited
I observe things lol
Too bad Bridget Fonda stopped acting. Miss seeing her in movies. She has an amazing body of work, though. I'd recommend watching the underrated It Could Happen To You, with Nicolas Cage. A sweet, wholesome romantic comedy. But everything she did is worth seeing.
What u do for the living I bought 2 4ks last week and my wife yells at me 😂
BTW I’m from India Ken

If you think A Simple Plan is good, wait until you see Raini's The Gift!
Excited.
I’ve only seen both once I think. It’s been a long time but I recall liking simple plan lot more. But I do like blanchet more now so who knows. I’ll be waiting for the arrow for that too I think
I love this movie so much I bought both the BD and 4K. Yes its worth the $70.
