saying Truth Social made less than LMG shouldn't have been the surprise it was
he said revenue

How do five million users translate into eight billion market value..? How does anyone expect to squeeze 1600 dollars of value out of a single user?
Star power
People buying the stock are not looking to profit. They are sporting an individual.
@@tonycamp4514 how?
Anyone who would significantly benefit cannot sell first the first year.
I agree it's wildly overvalued, but just remember the stock market is speculative. That's why teslas market cap is so high compared to companies with WAY more revenue and market share. Tech bro BS
@thecoolkid440 I'm not talking about financial support (though I'm certain owning billions in stock has to open some doors). It's similar to wearing a jersey or a hat.
Not to mention Truth Social is just a reskin of Mastodon, an open source Twitter alternative. They haven't updated the Mastodon version they are running, which has a known security vulnerability.

Much like all things Trump-related, only the branding has anything to do with the orange menace. Trump’s name is effectively an IP at this point, and the only true asset he owns.
Idek if trump understands tech enough to understand what this comment even means

Trump is like the anti Midas when it comes to business
It’s hilariously overvalued right now and I don’t think any due diligence is even required to make that comment. In 2023 it kinda performed like an index fund based on the nasdaq and then at the start of this year it just ballooned. My guess is that the 2023 Q4 earnings started the decline and I have sneaking suspicion that the 2024 Q1 report will cannonball it even farther. This is not investment advice but if you can afford to lose a couple thousand dollars from an investment portfolio, straddles and long puts on this underlying could easily outperform the S&P right now
@@bsheaves One thing I was made aware of was the fact that trump has a large number of shares in DJT and couldn't sell them without approval from the board, which is made up of a bunch of Trump loyalists. The fear was that, in the face of needing some serious cash to put up for a bail bond (specifically for his NY fraud case), he might convince the board to allow him to liquidate shares so he could use that money to cover the bond. The possibility of that happening also spooked the market and people were getting out out of fear that Trump may very well tank Truth social's value to save himself.
It never happened, of course, but thats a whole other can of worms. Bad fundamentals and a stockholder with a reason to liquidate is enough to scare off a good number of investors
I dont really see the point of it making money as the whole point was for it to be an alternative to twitter/censored platforms, but i dont have it or use it and could care less what other ppl think if they arent harrasing me or the ppl around me
Im always weary of any kind of product with words like "Truth" or "Freedom" or "Patriot" in their name.

Its only selling point was to be like Twitter with fewer rules. And now X is that.
Pretty much. Users and creators just tend to go where everyone else is (and the ad money as a result) - even when something is an inferior platform from a technical perspective, that remains true.
It's only selling point was Twitter but somehow worse, and now X is that
FTFY
X is like the same 100k racist bots at this point
It's like Twitter, but 0.001% the size, even less attractive to advertisers, and financially crippled by donating 90% of their market share to a single individual who doesn't even serve as CEO or a board member. And Twitter itself is already a worthless company.
The less rules thing is bullshit. It's like X. You can say the shittiest thing in the world but you can't criticize the narcissist who owns it.

Just a fun note to add about businesses using licensed merchandise in their spaces for decorative purposes. My doctor has various exam rooms and each one is themed around a gaming IP. There's a Zelda room and a Mario room, but there's also others that aren't from Nintendo. He even 3D printed and painted some of the figures himself. The entire office is super fun and gaming related. He's been in the news for it even, and he hasn't taken any flack from any of these companies. I'm fairly certain that there's nothing they can do legally because he's not using the IP itself for profit.
17:11 -- If LTT was serious about this, they would just partner with Fathead, who already has a lot of Nintendo and other gaming IP licenses. Then it's licensed and they don't need to worry about lawsuits.
You could sell off those imaginary 9 figures in your bank account and write it off on your taxes. Imagine how rich you'd be then! 😋
Everything should be measured in float planes.
As someone who lives in the NC triangle the ads are EVERYWHERE for sports betting. You name any space they could buy and they were there.
i wasn't aware of the legalization of it and it was so damn annoying suddenly seeing like five sports betting platforms bombarding half the ad-space on channel 11 and 5

I started to sign up but they wanted a phone number to register. So I changed my mind.
Going pseduo public for parts of the business to fund them would be great. Like the retro modding idea could easily be something like that. You'd need to clone Linus for the energy for it though, but maybe the contacts + expertise alone could work. Floatplane did.
This reminds me about that auction...
Hundreds of individual youtube channels see more weekly visitors than all of truth social over a month. This single channel sees some multiple of all of truth social traffic combined. Who bought this stock if not foreign traders trying to mix some money in? It has no intellectual property or staying power past its single attraction. Truth social made 5 million and spent 60 million last year. 😂 thats not a good business you will in all likelihood lose money if you buy that stock. Linus is right, there's no good move because none of it fundamentally makes any sense.
Short it
Yeah so I'm a appliance repair tech for bestbuy we had 7 of our 11 agents laid off in our city 3 of which were new hires and trust me we NEEDED those techs they're trying to say we won't because we're no longer doing factory warranty but one that brings in so many other issues and two even without factory warranty we needed those people it blows my mind they just got rid of so many people for a department that was actually doing really well
With some money in the bank, MC Hammer said it the best "You Can't Touch That".
It's less that they're more reliable and more that you can't fix most problems. With even storage being soldered down, there's no hardware upgrade or swaps in case of failure, it all boils down to sending it off for repair. I don't think the geek squad is doing surface mount repair.
Going public would be distracting.
Truth Social is DJT is like LTT going public with ticker INUS. It works tho. Easy to remember.
Feature creep is always a slow killer. As much as I'd love all kinds of LMG branded stuff, you've done so much already that it doesn't make sense to infinitely branch.
Layoffs are ALWAYS a top down issue. Now it could certainly be a byproduct of circumstance, but always, always, ALWAYS leadership failed in some way to get to a point where layoffs are necessary. And it sucks. But it also just happens, a lot. Some circumstances are unavoidable. Yet even so, the blame is still upon the leadership. Ultimately it is their responsibility.
I liked Nintendo where the CEO took a 50% pay cut to avoid layoffs and other executives cut their salaries. This is the kind of thing you want to see happen when they understand the burden of their position.
The House of Mouse sued a pre-school that had their characters painted on the walls. So it's probably not super legally protected
I was thinking about LTT Fabs yesterday... Like Luke said it'll never happen. But imagine.
You can't just talk about the concept of creating a really cool product that many people want and then just not I want that retro parts shop so bad
It's a "big" social media site.
I've never worked a job that didn't have high enough turnover that if you wanted to reduce staff you would actually lay people off instead of just not hiring new people for a while. I have worked for three different companies that died around me though...
That sounds super unhealthy for a company. You build up nothing.
We know EXACTLY what Linus would do with $8B - "Guys, I water cooled an entire stadium! With RGB!"
I thought it was Taringa!
Toward the end there... I used to make fan art of that certain IP holder's IPs, and I made the fan art into handmade keychains and lanyards. People bought, and I shipped around the globe.
And yeah, I got slapped with a C&D.
I was naive, and just really enjoyed the IPs so much that I put my heart into making art of them.
Now of course, I'm older, and despite having enjoyed the process so much, and the people who supported me in this, I am at a point where I understand why these laws exist, and I respect copyright law. I'm not a victim in any of it, so many people were upset on my behalf, but that's silly.
The whole thing made me just want to put that kind of effort into my own original dragon art. It definitely doesn't do nearly as well, but money was never my incentive to create in the first place (although it is good to cover the cost of living... haha)
Its still falling. It hit $30 per share today

That’s how most tech stocks start off.
this was like the most shorted stock when it broke lmao
LMG game development team would be crazy
About the best buy layoffs, was it really not the fault (at least partially) of the staff? Given how both of the employees you encountered told you things directly contrary to official best buy policy, which led to horrible customer service experiences, then their staff couldn't even fix the machine but charged you a lot anyway...sounds like they have issues with staff that either should have been let go for being bad at their job, or at least were being given bad instructions (like if they were told to lie about policy, because a direct manager didn't want to deal with certain issues). But then again, maybe the decision to hire people that weren't good at the job was an upper management decision, like trying to save money but making their service so bad people just stopped using it
wake me when there are more short shares than there are outstanding shares.
LMG repairs? I'd be down to send my OG Xbox in for mods and caps replacement
You could make a small semiconductor analysis lab for 80 million
The only meaning for me to Linus to convert LMG to something share-ish thingy - is to pay to employees in shares. I do really believe that they deserve opportunity to exchange some of their salary to equity. I can't imagine that for example Luke retiring after 20 more years with LMG and leaving with ONLY memories. That's seems to me... unfair.
That's completely emotional idea, so i'll go frick myself, but man, that's would be a devastating idea for me to live with.

I'd like to see floatplane go public, if for nothing else than all the novice investors thinking "floatplane? that must be some new eco-friendly transportation company!" and throwing money at it.
TBH LMG should approach a bank and be like “Look, Truth Social is ‘worth’ 4 Billion dollars with this amount of revenue, I’m sure an appraiser would see our vastly higher success and valuate us higher than that, so we’d like a line of credit of just a quarter of that value” and just see what they say. 🤣🤣🤣
