I also felt very sad for Victor on this movie, he was fighting his father’s fight, his conflict wasn’t with Creed it was with his dad and mom, he grown up believing that his mother left him and his dad because his dad lost a fight, so imagine how much pressure the guy suffered having Ivan as a dad.
There was a deleted scene you should check out, where Adonis and Viktor basically have the conversation after the fight that Rocky and Ivan should have had. That deleted scene also pushed the idea that there might be a Drago spinoff.
They really humanized Drago Sr. in this one. It was like a Kratos like turnaround from God of War 1-3 to God of War 2018 and Ragnarok. Went from a Russian Supersoldier designed to Break and Kill to a feeling, breathing, bleeding human doubling as a loving dad.
I say it anytime someone reacts to this film: nobody expected Ivan freaking “if he dies, he dies” Drago to find redemption, and certainly nobody expected to be happy for him over it, and yet that’s what this movie manages to do.
I always felt Drago redeemed himself when he told the poliburo that he fights for himself as a warrior, not as a machine for the soviet union. But this redemption made it much much sweeter.
That always just confirmed his selfishness to me. That means his beating Apollo to death had nothing to do with patriotism or making Russia look strong and America weak; it was just him, wanting to clobber an over-the-hill former champion into oblivion just to show everyone what a badass he was. To me, that mad Drago even more of a villain. Here, though, it’s clear that he’s done some maturing and gone through some character development. It says something when Drago ends up more sympathetic than Paulie.
@TeenTyrant that's an interesting take and I never thought of it that way over the countless times I've watched 4 from a child to now. As I aged, I mostly took the last 3 Rocky films to be pretty basic in their character developments, so when Drago beat Apollo, I just think of a machine of a man who was trying to show the might of the Soviet. But when he screamed against the politburo, I took it as Rocky fueling his warrior spirit, which cannot be controlled by any country (or anyone for that matter). I never looked backwards and thought it was him all along. I also don't blame Drago as much for Apollo's death as I do Rocky or Apollo. Them two could have said no but they agreed to take the fight against a machine. And though it was horrific, I finally gave Apollo's death the respect he deserves when Donny said he didn't believe Apollo left him on purpose. He didn't deserve to die but the warrior's life took him that way.
The family dynamic of this movie reminded me of Warrior. Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton and Nick Nolte as two brothers, two sons and a father and their relationship set against the backdrop of Mixed Martial Arts competition. Rocky & Adonis stories came full circle
The think that a lot of people (especially those that really grew up after the cold war) might not really understand about Drago, was that he was a puppet/symbol of the Soviet Union. And when he lost to Rocky, the USSR basically threw him away because of the shame he brought to them. His wife, was probably a higher up or was a daughter of a higher up in the USSR, staying with Drago wouldn't have been an option for her, as he was an outcast that was thrown out of the country. So she left him and her son. So Drago saw his son as a way back to restoring the name.. I think the recently released directors cut of Rocky 4 really improves Drago's character, making him a much more sympathetic villain instead of this evil robot.
Yes Mary, Apollo and Marianne did have children. This was referenced in Rocky 2 when Apollo was reading his hate/fan mail, the kids were running around in the house and the then actress who played Marianne was chasing them around. Apollo also mentioned his kids in Rocky 3 when he was talking about how when Rocky beat him that 2nd time he didn't want to hear from anyone, not even his kids... Just FYI👍👍
“Both of them are in the MCU.” Actually, all three leads are in the MCU - Michael B Jordan (Kilmonger), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Sylvester Stallone (Starhawk from “Guardians of the Galaxy 2) …and almost forgot, Florian Munteanu (who plays Viktor Drago) was Razor Fist in Shang Chi , so that makes 4 of them also in the MCU 😂
Bridgette Nelson (Drago's wife in Rocky 4) was actually Stallone's girlfriend at the time. When they were filming Creed 2 they contacted her and she said she cried because she thought they would have forgotten her. Over the years she was involved with drugs and fell out of Hollywood because of it. Ivan Drago was meant to be a weapon for Russia in the boxing world, when he lost it was an embarrassment to the country, so he ended up being barred from everyone and his son went with him, so it's not really all his doing.
The part that gets me every time is when Rocky says "And when I did get in that ring. That guy broke things in me that ain't never been fixed." Even in Rocky 5 when the damage was effecting him the worst he NEVER admitted anything was wrong with him. Hearing Rocky say, this many years later, that not only did Drago break him but he's STILL broken from that fight is heartbreaking. He doesn't even say he's affected by having had Cancer, but fighting Drago still affects him to this day. No one can possibly comprehend how terrifed for Adonis' well being Rocky was for him.
I personally like Creed 1 more, but this really packs a punch. It's impressive how the final minutes of the fight shifts the tone from so triumphant when Donnie knocks Viktor down to genuinely sad as we see how much torture he's putting himself through, and how it reflects in his dad's eyes.

This film was really more about the Drago’s than it was about Creed. I still prefer the first film over this one but this one was good too. And to be honest, Miss Mary, you’re not the only one that felt more sorry for Ivan Drago son. I felt more for him as well. I know there’s a new Creed film coming out next year, but in all honesty, if they would’ve ended it here, I would’ve been good.
That restores just a little of my faith in humanity that no one spoiled anything for you, I feel like they have been doing so well with the Creed movies, it could have easily been a generic, sports guy story, but like the Rocky movies, they put so much more into it that elevates it beyond a typical sports movie, I'm excited for Creed 3, and am curious how far they are going to go with the story, also, They very much humanized Ivan in this movie, where as he was a bit of a robot in the 4th movie, I like this version of Drago a lot more personally, I believe there are deleted scenes of Rocky and Drago, and Adonis and Viktor confronting each other after the fight, they are definitely worth checking out!
About thinking it's odd that Rocky and Robert's relationship turned out like that, I didn't think it was odd at all. In fact, it's surprisingly realistic; the relationship between the two of them has been strained since Rocky V and just because they make up by the time the credits roll, it doesn't magically fix all of their problems. Rocky is still a very different person from his son and Robert still has to live in his father's shadow.
I always thought their relationship ended bittersweetly. Robert moved away so he could be his own person but he finally accepted and respected his father while Rocky stayed in Philly because everything reminded him of Adrian
I love watching people go through the Rocky series from the start. If they loved rocky 4, I am excited for them to react to Creed 2 a few weeks later to get their opinion. We had to wait decades. Creed 2 is a sequel to Creed, of course but I also see it as a sequel to rocky 4 as well. If you see this, thanks for sharing and Happy New Year.
There is an uncut scene, where Rocky was talking about how his "friend" Spider (the first guy he fought in the movies and also the man who helps in the restaurant) was telling him how he trained in the desert with other hard bodied boxers. Also PLEASE react to the fighter.
It was a great sequel but I still preferred the first Creed. The journey of Adonis transforming from a Johnson to a Creed and bonding with Rocky and Bianca is some of the best storytelling in film
Apollo did have children with Mary Anne. You actually see them briefly in Rocky II and Apollo mentions that his kids were being bullied at school because he almost lost to Rocky in Rocky I. it is odd that there is no mention of these kids in Creed I or Creed II.
There was kids in Apollo's house in 2nd Rocky film. He also told that people in school calling his father a looser or something like that. They probably much older than Adonis and not spending much time with Marienne anymore.
I enjoyed your reaction..I personally think the first Creed was way better. It was better written, (written and directed by Ryan Coogler by the way), the acting was strong and overall better story. Stallone won a few awards and even got nominated for an Oscar for his performance that year. But all that being said, Creed 2 was a good time, I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to seeing Creed 3 directed by Michael B. Jordan with Imax cameras,The first sports movie to be filmed in Imax. Should really be a fun watch!🙂
So glad you made it through the whole series… so far at least! I love creed 1 and 2, and like you, the second one even more. Finally, I would please ask you to watch the deleted scene from creed 2 that happens in the Locker room after the final fight. To me it’s one of the best scenes in the entire Rocky series, and I can’t believe it didn’t make it into the movie. Adds so much to the final part of the movie. Thanks for watching the whole series!
Viktor was a sympathetic figure in this film for me I really enjoyed what they did with Ivan and his son especially after the loss and the towel throw in seeming to have a more of a father son relationship going forward
You're not alone in your feelings for the younger Drago. Product of his environment/upbringing for sure. Also, you missed 1 person that was in the MCU... you're gonna be surprised! (Unless you mentioned it and I didn't hear it. I assume you meant Sylvester and Mikey B. as the 2 MCU alums when you said 2 of them. But there is 1 more! hehe)😁
I like both of these movies but I prefer the first one because it felt like a new story. This one is more of a rehash but the scenes with the baby’s hearing and the Dragos at the end of the fight are fantastic and emotional.
I had a hard time putting into words on what this movie made me feel and further more, why I was feeling what I was feeling. This film makes Ivan Drago into one of the most sympathetic villain that I have seen. I came across a video on UA-cam "Why Creed 2 Makes You Cry". Its a strong commentary of this movie on why we are so effected by Ivans position and his change and what it means for Viktor.
id highly recommend watching the deleted scenes for the movie, they had a planned rocky vs drago street fight and then a really touching scene between creed and viktor that should have been included.
I cant wait to see your reaction to this movie. While you are waiting for the next Creed Movie to come out if you want to get into another Stallone series, please consider watching Rambo: First Blood. I truely think that by the end of that movie you will be in love with another Stallone character.
Yes, Apollo and Mary Ann had two kids. We see them in Rocky 2 and Apollo mentions them in 3 & 4. In the directors cut of Rocky 4(better than the theatrical cut just weirdly edited) we see them too. I'm not sure why they didn't acknowledge them but I assume that by the time Adonis went to live with Mary Ann those two kids were adults already and living their lives. But it would've been cool to see that type of drama. Creed 3 won't have Stallone, a lot of drama there but won't say anything
Hey there kid. The fellas here really appreciate a youth showing such reverence and respect for Rocky. Me and the fellas here all grew up on the Rocky and Rambo franchise and Sly is like Jesus to us. He's a genuinely great person in real life too. It's evident even through his character portrayal of Rocky. Keep up the good work kid, you are a legend in the reaction sphere. You consistently predict events and dialogue just before they happen, you remember character names, you follow the plot and retain all the fine minutiea and details. From a fella to a lass, we see the talent kid and does it hurt you're a fine piece of eye candy? The fellas here unanimously agree, absolutely not.
New subscriber here. I came across your channel looking for Indiana Jones trailer reactions and started watching your Indiana jones movie reactions. I then realized that you reacted to nearly all of my favorite movies growing up. One of my favorite things is watching a movie I love with a friend who's never seen it. This sorta felt like that. Plus I got to watch 40 minute versions of my favorite movies. Thanks for helping me waste an entire day. I needed a lazy day anyway. Lol
Love watching all these Rocky and Creed reactions. Can we get more sports movies? Highly recommend Cinderella Man, Friday Night Lights, a bunch of others.
Cant express enough how much I've enjoyed Mary going through this obviously legendary franchise, legit has made my 2022!!! I appreciate you greatly, never underestimate the light you bring to real-life, everyday, hardworking decent human biengs in this crazy world, You gloriously splendid Queeeeeeen ! ❤️
Yeah, and I'm still impatiently waiting for a Ravagers limited series. The cast that popped up at the end of Guardians 2 was amazing and this project needs to happen.
Ok, Mary if you can now see Rocky IV the directors cut because that film makes Drago human and it's more in line with what a Rocky film is as opposed to the Original cut which I do prefer because I grew up with it but it shows more heart then the film I grew up with and the film you saw. I'm so glad you liked and saw this and unless Rocky comes back the Rocky series is over for me so I hope you continue to enjoy what's to come in the Creed series. Oh, off topic thanks for introducing me to Klaus on Netflix. I loved it.
Please watch the director's cut of Rocky IV next. It's called Rocky vs Drago and it just came out in 2021. There are a lot of changes, some big and some small, that add up to a movie that feels pretty different from the original version
The directors cut is equally as good imo at first I liked the original but then the ending and eye of the tiger started playing pure goosebumps made it just as good if not better imo when rocky daps drago up at the end u realize drago gonna Always know who the better man was no words needed.
@Chris Cole Yes! As much as I love the original Rocky IV, the director's cut feels so much more in line with the rest of the series in tone and it has really become the definitive version for me
To answer your question about Apollo having children with his wife. Yes they do If you watch Rocky 2 after Apollo gets out of the hospital. You see them running around in their home and his wife mentions them. Yes you need to react to the creed 3 trailer. I get goosebumps in creed 2 when drago and rocky meet in the restaurant, when rocky says that 'man broke things in me that have never heeled" and the classic stare down. Being that you have not watch many sports movies but most sports movies have a significant amount of drama which brings out the beauty in them. I highly recommend "the Cinderella man"
If you want to branch out and watch movies about other sports besides boxing, some of the best ones with universal appeal are Rudy, Miracle, Coach Carter, Hoosiers and Moneyball. In fact I could add many more to that list too, sports movies are often of high quality, you don't actually get many bad ones.
They were preparing to do a Drago spinoff but Stallone started bashing it on social media as he saw it as milking the franchise. I believe it's no longer in production.
Great reaction, Mary! Glad u enjoyed this sequel. Fyi, along with Adonis & Bianca being in the MCU, so was Rocky. If u remember in Guardians Of The Galexy 2, Stallone's character was the leader of the Ravegers & in the comics, was a member of the ORIGINAL Guardians team (I forgot his character's name tho). :)
Funny you said both have been in the mcu. Sylvester, Tessa, and Michael have all 3 been in the mcu. Sylvester was in Guardians 2, Michael was Killmonger, and Tessa was Valkyrie
It all started with a joke after the success of the first film. "So what's next, is Adonis gonna fight the son of Ivan Drago?" Seriously. This was what people were saying at the time. So Stallone (one of the producers and writers) decided that the sequel would show us just that. It was a joke that became gold and it actually worked. Defining performances by all of the cast and Dolph Lundgren as Drago at his most dramatic. The surprises and gut punches (literally and figuratively) of this sequel are incredible.
So after this film the actor for young Drago was Raser Fist in Shang-Chi, making him the 4th actor in this film in the MCU. 1st was Stallone in Guardians vol.2, 2nd Tessa in Thor Ragnarok, and 3rd Michael B, in Black Panther.
I know one thing for sure. I don't want to see a Rocky or Creed movies where Rocky dies in the movie. I don't think I could handle that. The way Adrian passed and then Paulie, in between movies...if Rocky went the same way, if in Creed III or Creed IV we see Adonais standing next to Rocky's grave talking to him...I'll still cry, but I don't think it will break me. I thought the way Rocky Balboa ended with Rocky fading away, the "old soldiers never die, they just fade away" kind of thing...I thought that was a beautiful way to see Rocky go out. Then the Creed movies came along and we got a couple more chapters in the Rocky story that were so amazing, that we (or at least I) never knew we needed but really did... If the last time we see Rocky is him meeting his grandson and hugging his son...I think I like that even better than the fading away.
Ivan Drago thinks he's lost everything but at the end he realises that he still has his son. Ivan Drago went from a one dimensional 80's movie villain to being so totally humanised in this movie. There's a deleted scene in this movie where Adonis speaks to Viktor after the fight and Ivan gives Rocky a respectful nod. Just to say that their rivalry and the bad blood between them was over. That scene should've been left in.
That’s the thing, I feel like Victor had no real bad blood against Adonis, he was doing what he was doing because he didn’t want to disappoint his dad, but that fight was actually Ivan’s not his.
28:13 and it was here is when Rocky passed the torch to Adonis and said goodbye to us. Rocky Balboa the character was retired as of that moment. Allegedly Rocky might have passed on between this movie and Creed III
Now that you have made your way through all of the Rocky related movies, will you please consider returning to the Jay & Silent Bob series of movies by watching Mallrats? Pretty please?
_Creed II_ was better than I thought it would be because the premise was (let's be honest) pretty fυcking ridiculous. I think it's a bit of a stretch to say it's better than the first _Creed,_ though.
Fun Fact: Stallone and Drago’s on screen wife in Rocky 4 got engaged during the production of Rocky 4 and married shortly after the release of the film in a marriage that lasted from 1985 all the way to 1987. But they married during the month of December so it was really 1986-1987 which was still an average at bat for the Danish actress who averaged 1.3 years per marriage for her first 3 marriages with an 83-84, 85-87 (really 86) and 90-92 track record. Her fourth and fifth marriages were far more successful with a 93-2005 stint and her current 2006 to present marathon currently ongoing.
Apollo & Maryann did have children. When I first watched Creed, I was wondering about their absence, as well. Donnie would’ve been raised with them or at least around them depending on the age gap. Idk why there’s nothing about them in these Creed films.
Yah only thing im upset about is that creeds children with his wife never was seen or mentioned in the creed films hopefully thats what creed 3 is secretly about 🤔🤔🤔. P.s.i heard they are making a drago spin-off

You should watch Warrior next. You’ll love it. Tom Hardy 2011, great film

But there is 1 more! hehe)😁

I love it when the line between hero and villain gets blurred.
This film makes Ivan Drago into one of the most sympathetic
villain that I have seen.

I just can't wait for creed 3! Rocky 4 is still my fav but the creed movies are right up there🔥🔥
These movies are a great continuation of the Rocky saga, and really won me over about Michael B. Jordan.
Ive liked him ever since the last two seasons of Friday Night Lights.
@@BasketCase-rr7tx Never watched that one, though apparently it's quite good.
@@SilentBob731 It is one of the best TV shows ever IMO.

Hi Mary! I hope you’re doing well! Stay safe and happy!

Hey Mary, CREED 3 is on and there´s even a ROCKY 6.5 (called "Grudge Match", not Rocky, but almost) 🙂
Watch Sylvester Stallone "Over The Top" "Tango and Cash" "Cobra"
I was sad to see that Creed 2 was the last time that Sylvester Stallone would be present, but it was Michael B. Jordan's turn to take over.
thank you Mary for asking about Creed's other kids, that's been a question on my mind for ages
Cant express enough how much I've enjoyed Mary going through this obviously legendary franchise, legit has made my 2022!!! Mary dont forget....Stallone was in the MCU as well. AND in the DCU!
Yeah, and I'm still impatiently waiting for a Ravagers limited series. The cast that popped up at the end of Guardians 2 was amazing and this project needs to happen.
@@SilentBob731 I am a bit less enthused since Gunn would not be involved.. But I was hoping for a heist film myself at some point
And Drago Jr. in Shang Chi
I loved it.

there are deleted sceens that you can watch on youtube from rocky 4 that show some of what happend to Drago after the fight.
As much as I love the original Rocky IV, the director's cut feels so much more in line with the rest of the series in tone and it has really become the definitive version for me
The funeral scene is better and it gives more Adrian.
@Chris Cole too edgy

To answer your question about Apollo having children with his wife. Yes they do
If you watch Rocky 2 after Apollo gets out of the hospital.
Mary does it again!

Creed 3 is getting close. I'm hoping Rocky didn't die, this movie was made against Sylvester Stallone's blessing, I know he isn't happy about it
Was waiting for this reaction. The first Creed actually came out in 2015. Yes Creed actually has other kids but they don't address them
Great reaction, Mary! :)

3:25 The slow motion is an absolute disaster because CGI has no place in a boxing film.
I mean the old movies had all types of special affects so no
My order:
Rocky
Rocky 2
Creed
Rocky Balboa
Creed 2
Rocky 3
Rocky 4
Rocky 5

It all started with a joke after the success of the first film.
"So what's next, is Adonis gonna fight the son of Ivan Drago?"
Seriously.

6:56 4 of the 5 main cast members have been in the MCU. Only Dolph hasn't, and that's likely because he's in the Aquaman films.
@@rafaelalodio5116 Drago is so offended

28:13 and it was here is when Rocky passed the torch to Adonis and said goodbye to us. Rocky Balboa the character was retired as of that moment. Allegedly Rocky might have passed on between this movie and Creed III

Now that you have made your way through all of the Rocky related movies, will you please consider returning to the Jay & Silent Bob series of movies by watching Mallrats? Pretty please?
She hasnt even watched the third Die Hard movie yet, she keeps stopping watching movie series' before she watches some of the best films from them.
Seconded! The Jay & Silent Bob Odyssey (especially Dogma) are some of my all-time favourite movies (obviously, I guess).
@@BasketCase-rr7tx Yes, you’re right. She should watch Die Hard With A Vengeance, but she should also stop with that one.
Creed absolutely had kids with Mrs. Huxtable (Cosby show reference). I'm not sure why they don't bring it up.
_Creed II_ was better than I thought it would be because the premise was (let's be honest) pretty fυcking ridiculous. I think it's a bit of a stretch to say it's better than the first _Creed,_ though.
I felt bad for the Dragos too
Really good movie.Reaction is so perfect.
But in 1985 Stallone and Czack divorced weeks during the filming

Apollo & Maryann did have children. When I first watched Creed, I was wondering about their absence, as well. Donnie would’ve been raised with them or at least around them depending on the age gap. Idk why there’s nothing about them in these Creed films.
Actually, there were 4 MCU featured actors in this movie. "Drago Jr " was the Machete hand fighter in Shang Chi.
