  • Liu Xiaodong (Chinese, b.1963) was born in Liaoning Province, and is one of China’s most celebrated Contemporary artists. In 1980, Liu left his hometown of Jincheng to pursue art in Beijing. Liu attended the Central Academy of Fine Arts, where he received his BA in 1988 and his MFA in 1995. He lives and works in Beijing, and is currently a professor in the painting department at CAFA. Liu is primarily a Figurative painter, capturing snapshots of time with his richly-colored works and interesting use of framing and perspective. His subjects are often common people and those at the margins of society, such as sex workers and the homeless. Liu tends to draw inspiration from scenes of friends and family members doing everyday activities, but his work often alludes to social problems he seeks to highlight through his art. The artist has been exhibited internationally through both group and solo shows, and is represented by a number of galleries. His works have been shown at prominent institutions such as the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

    Remarcable indeed, it's..very artistic when Mother Nature is getting back the abandoned industrial disasters and.... that's the supreme beauty...caught on canvas

    I was prepared to be unimpressed due to a sniffy comment I read here, but after seeing the painting in various stages of completion, I was happily surprised to see a work of subtle mastery and wonderfully controlled passages. I think he's a great painter, so refreshing after torturing myself with too many New York shows.

    I'd Love to paint plein air on a huge canvas like that. How are you able to take it home, you must live nearby right. It's such a stark difference painting plein air than from within the studio.

  • @guillermotorrejonc9084
    @guillermotorrejonc9084 Рік тому +1

    After seeing this, I would be ashamed to take a glass, half fill it with water and call it ART. Contemporary art they tell him. I call it chronic laziness and lack of talent.

    I'm quite disappointed in what I see here. A "celebrated" painter should paint much better than this.

    • @kimhansen8615
      @kimhansen8615 Рік тому

      How much do you know about painting, I wonder? It's large scale, life and real-time painting in oil, with just the minimum of technical support in a session spanning days. Typical for this artist and very in touch with the moment. Look again....

    • @KpxUrz5745
      @KpxUrz5745 Рік тому +2

      @@kimhansen8615 I know a great deal about painting. Surely far more than you can imagine. And needless to say, I know much more than this artist does. Thanks for asking.

    • @atlantic_love
      @atlantic_love Рік тому +2

      Well said. It's a garbage painting, and so typical of the artists (and easily impressed snobs) who think a large painting makes you an artist.

      @Marcus Dunn
      Listen, Dunn(ce). It's called free speech. And that's we have comments. There are no rules stating that one has to be all rosy and peachy with comments, and as a fellow artist I will (( not )) pump up my fellow artists with bullshit praise. If your work sucks, then I'll say it sucks. If you want to know why I think your work sucks, ask, and I'll give my opinion. There is also this thing called 'looking out for your fellow man", and by posting my opinion (even if it's negative) I'm informing the next person who might appreciate not having to waste 25 minutes of watching a video :D
