Easy to recognize French and Euro impressionism sketch style at first. Lose lines like Mucha, Degas, Renoir, Klimt and so on. Combined with fat and bold brush of Russian magic, Nikolai link two world together perfectly. Wonderful demo...
Eric thank you for sharing this fabulous video Thank you Nichol. This Russian Master is definitely a Master in his own rightt. Thank you Nikolai Blokhin.
Every figurative painter ought to make a pilgrimage to St Petersburg Russia to visit the Russian Museum. Most of Repin's oeuvre is there, but equally wonderful is the huge volume of work by Russian Academy trained artists from the 19th and 20th centuries, most of whom you've probably never heard of, whose skill at marrying surface texture to volumetric form (even in charcoal alone) will blow your mind. In person, the work is much more impressive. St Petersburg is a gorgeous city, super friendly locals, and of course there is the Hermitage. Well-paired with a visit to Helsinki and Tallinn.
Makes me wish I could visit an exposition. I love his art so much, even did a replica (to my best capacity). Would gladly buy lessons from him but the price right now is a bit step for me, but I'm planning on doing it.
awesome, wow, I been following Nicolai and first time to get his color palette, I been studying a couple of Russian artist and they all like to use Ultramarine blue light and Mars brown.
Look so loose but the impression was so precise. He doesn't seem worry about the toxic of pigment get into his body system.....great master demo, thank you.
Did anyone get what the two the solutions in the jars are? The translator said something about varnish, turpentine and oil, I think... Are the three mixed together?
I would like to buy the video tutorial.but would be worried if their were only a version of what we saw tonight.i like to know every aspect of his technique from start to finish
Hi, Joan! This segment was about an hour and 20 minutes. The full video is 5 hours. You can learn more here: lilipubsorders.com/products/nikolai-blokhin-russian-master-portraits
I know im randomly asking but does anybody know of a method to log back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot my account password. I love any help you can offer me
I would love to buy the digital download, but USD$200 is way more than I can justify on a 5 hour tutorial video. (For comparison, Andrew Tischler sells a 7.5 hour landscape painting lesson for $60/$75 download/DVD) Fair enough if it were a one-on-one, in-person lesson or lecture, but come on! In the age of the internet and video-on-demand, you could make an absolute killing if you were to release on gumroad for a much more reasonable fee ($15-45). Just not sure why anyone would prefer to sell something with an essentially unlimited supply at $200 to 1000 potential customers rather than $30 to 20,000+. (likely even higher, if you can license it in developing countries where the disposable income is lower but the population can be massive..)
There's a lot of solvent in that canvas, you can see it dripping down the painting, but he also uses oil without none of it and thats where you see those thick textures. Usually you go from the order thin to thick gradually but he goes from super thin to extremelly thick very fast. I've grew to love this style and have been using it in my paintings too.

What a treat to be able to see him at work ... my mind is blown!
The use of the fan brush for the block in was unusual and fascinating
That model is amazing! Incredibly disciplined. I'd like to paint him myself!
That was marvellous job.. Incredible... Russia you are the best!
Eric thank you for sharing this fabulous video Thank you Nichol. This Russian Master is definitely a Master in his own rightt. Thank you Nikolai Blokhin.

Model is amazing, the artist what can I say only thank you for showing us your process incredible
What I find interesting is how different painters prefer specific brushes. For example, Nikolai is working initially, with a fan brush!
He paints in huge canvas, the fan brush is optimal there.
this is awesome, so glad I found this!
Das ist absolut fantastisch!
I really enjoyed this video 🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️ thank you❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A really great Master¡ Thank you so much ❤

Try to look it up on 'paint tube'
wow thank you!! what a treat.
Wow. It was only at 43 minutes in that he brought out the smaller brushes I would have been using from the start.
Look so loose but the impression was so precise. He doesn't seem worry about the toxic of pigment get into his body system.....great master demo, thank you.
I heard Fechin used to moisten his Pallet knife with his tongue lol
Great artist.
He has a lively demeanor
Wonderful!!!
Fabulous Ericxx
Just ordered the DVD ...can’t wait for it to come in.
Thank You! Wonder!!!
Amazing!

All these negative comments. Shut up! It’s free! Get what can and quit asking for more.
Excellent interview
Would be good to know what colors he was mixing.impossible to try and paint along with him when you dont have a clue of his color palette
Hi, Joan - His materials list can be found here: lilipubsorders.com/products/nikolai-blokhin-russian-master-portraits (last photo)
@@artschoollive thank you😊💚
Love Russian Impressionism. I learned to paint from Sergei Bongart’s student(s).
Did anyone get what the two the solutions in the jars are? The translator said something about varnish, turpentine and oil, I think... Are the three mixed together?
probably a three part medium of turpentine, damar, and linseed oil. That's what people were using when I was there many years ago.
I would like to buy the video tutorial.but would be worried if their were only a version of what we saw tonight.i like to know every aspect of his technique from start to finish

Thank you for reply😊💚
What are the mediums? Varnish, turpentine, ...mixed? Was that cooking oil he put in the jar?
Love his Boldness! Grab a huge brush and lots of paint and DO IT!! Going in my studio to give it a try. Thank you!!
Top of the top

I agree
A lot of things are lost in translation. Its sad that the interpreters are not qualified..
...the visuals speak volumes

Fan Brush the best
Thank you so much for this! ❤ Did he use solvent and oil together?

Than you s much for answering me 🙂🌈@@fabiomgm1293
Thank you Fabio 🌈❤@@fabiomgm1293
Makes me feel bad that I very rarely ever use my fan brushes, lol.
..true! ... I am not a "fan" and i guess because i just never reach for the poor little fellas
wonder what are the percentage in Russia showing traditional art ?
He looks angry every time, lmao, great artist!
Is he using a charcoal stick to sketch in beforehand?
Yes
46:04 now you need to pay money to know how
Ouch! Don't try this at home if you can't draw.
Isn't that paint toxic??
not unless you eat it or leave it on your skin for hours.
this an an Artist with capital A. For now on I will introduce myself as a forever student of art because I will never achieve this standard.
Rompemadres
A man pronounced wrong name of that artist... not Blokin but BlokHin...at 46 minute
What a biodiversity!
Sorry. I would pay money to NOT paint like this artist does.
First impression he doesn't know what he is doing....looking for ,,happy accident,,😅
