My little niece had wanted to come along but was sick with flu. Laura gave me a glossy photo of herself, wrote a nice little note for my niece to get well soon and said "Tell her hello and get well soon." My niece was thrilled with that. Laura was a doll!

Sergio Bermudez was a friend and Mexican businessman who sponsored her at miss USA. guy of GuyRex could not believe she won she was late to rehearsals and told guy when she won Miss El Paso USA she would Win Miss USA. unfortunately, at Miss UNIVERSE she would make top 15 but then be disqualified from going further because Sergio Bermudez and his entourage where in her room the evening before delivering flowers and the other contestants reported it to pageant officials.
Mai Shanley was actually the second Asian American Miss USA. The first Asian American Miss USA was Macel Wilson back in 1962. However, Mai Shanley was the first multiracial American to win Miss USA. She was half Taiwanese half Irish.

Yes, in fact Spanish is Laura's first language. Earlier in the pageant they mention that she speaks three languages: Spanish, English, and French.

Of the 5 texas aces laura is the most facially beautiful then cristy, courtney and gretchen. Michelle is not so beautiful but her personality shines.
