A couple months after she won Miss USA, I met and spoke with Kim Tomes at an autograph signing she was doing in San Antonio. She was no Blondie bimbo, she was funny, down to earth and chatted with you like she was your friend and neighbor. A class act and still looks pretty in her early 60s.

i can't believe barbara peterson failed to make the semis in miss usa. she's one of the best looking miss usa's to date. when i watched a clip of miss usa 2001 she's aged very well.

Personally, I think Kim was the best of the Texas nine, and certainly one of the best Miss USAs ever. She was wholesome and raw.

I'm a little biased, but I honestly think Debbie was definitely the prettiest of the final 5, and would have been great for her to have given Minnesota its second title in a row.
I like Kim. She is definitely my favourite Miss Texas, Miss USA winner, but I was really hoping for Miss Virginia or Minnesota to be victorious!

Miss Texas victories came from a lot of training. They had 2 guys who trained them. They were called GUY/REX. As for Venezuela, they too trained hard and long. True of Hispanic countries; so now Mexico is catching up to Puerto Rico, Colombia, Dominican Republic and Venezuela.

Tomes was a great choice. I wish she would have done better at Miss Universe. I think she looks a lot like Doris Day.
Miss Nevada was a gorgeous doll, I like her better than the actual winner.

Texas' dress was absolutely gorgeous....but I think Minnesota was prettier. Texas stood out, very blonde and unique-looking. Interesting Texas hadn't won until this year. They've made up for lost time, they now have the most wins.

Agree. In the 1976 Miss USA contest, Miss Michigan was easily the best, but she got second place. She probably would have made top five at Miss Universe.
