Thanks again Phil for this very informative video. I've been a fan of them since 1975. Cheers Fred.

Thanks Phil. Have loved BJH since I first heard Tommy Vance play Child of the Universe on the Friday Rock Show. Another cd set to add to my wish list. Kind regards

This is a great set. I saw this gig on the Saturday and it was awesome. The best performance of Hymn that I've witnessed. Also, the venue was brilliant. My wife has MND and is in a wheelchair, and they couldn't be more helpful. We both really enjoyed the night, and then watched the video when this set came out and enjoyed it all over again! An absolute must! Thanks Phil!

Not listened to this one yet, but I will. Personally I prefer the old BJH, and my fave album is “Once Again”, love every track on that one. Great upload as usual 👍

Hi Phil ... good to see this release from John Lees' version of BJH getting some air time and getting a good, well deserved, review.
I've had the set since its release and have been really enjoying it ... a lot ...
For info, for those who may be interested, here is a re-post of the comments I put on the now Spinning Facebook page last week in respect of this release ... just my thoughts ... Cheers, CMcG, Aberdeen, Scotland
QUESTION ... Is Philharmonic! The Orchestral Concert recorded over 2 gigs in 2023 by John Lees' Barclay James Harvest the BEST live album by any of BJH or any of its offshoot bands ?
Well, for me, probably "Yes" ... followed by :
The COMPLETE 25th Anniversary concert from 1992 [only available in full via the additional CDs on the two separate deluxe releases of studio albums Welcome to the Show and Caught in the Light ... i.e. you need to get both sets to get the full show]
    and
Classic Meets Rock [2002] by Barclay James Harvest Featuring Les Holroyd
I have, in my collection, [I think] everything live that's been released going way back to BBC In concert [1972] through Live [1974] [great songs and playing, poor fidelity], Drury Lane 1977 [awful sound],Live Tapes [1977 / 1978] [again, not the greatest sound but some classic tracks - but missing out some "must haves"], Concert for the People in 1982 [missed opportunity ... technical issues meant only part of the show was recorded], Wembley 1984 [I liked this period quite a bit], Glasnost 1988 [Expanded edition] is pretty good, 1999 Revival by John Lees et al [nothin special], 2002 Live in Bonn by Les [it's ok], 2006 John Lees' Legacy DVD [I'm captured getting an autograph from Woolly on the extras!], 2009 Bloomsbury Set by John is good, 2010 Metropolis is also pretty good given its timing after Woolly's passing, 2011 High voltage is ok but not stellar, 2013 North Disk 2 is pretty good, the Electric Dream set by John is not one I return to a lot [probably 'cause I recorded it off late night TV], Les Holroyd's Restrospective set from 2016 is pretty good [although vocals are beginning to age], 50th Anniversary concert from 2018 has a good set list but needs a wee bit more "spark"] ...
So why does Philharmonic! The Orchestral Concert come top?
Great Set list [which would be just epic if combined with Les Holroyd in the band with some of his fabulous material],
    excellent musicianship,
    great orchestra / orchestration ...
    very well recorded ...
Just "superb" as one might say ...
There are many highlights but Fifties Child, the epic The Poet / After the Day combo, Moonwater [with Eleanor Sandars an inspired choice on vocals], Medicine Man, Dark Now My Sky [with Keith Domone], On Leave and . yet another, great version of Hymn. A great document of the concerts from September 2023.
I did not go, sloppy, as I had traveled down from Aberdeen for the earlier show in May at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester which was fabulous.
Great band [in all incarnations / offshoots] with a wonderful catalogue ... they may not [yet] have made THE definitive studio album where all, or most of, the tracks are totally great, but, on every album, there was always some great, often stellar, music ... try the longer epic tracks of the Harvest era, Side 1 of Octoberon, Eyes of the Universe [just works for me] ... and I play Ring of Changes album all the time ... honourary mention to the track If Love is King which German fans voted into the set list for last tour ... great tune.
Do consider checking out this release ...
